Madeleine McCann: Missing Hours, Found Again And A PR Disaster
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
THE SUN front page: “MADDIE DAD AGONY. Fiend hid from Gerry. He was already in room he tells cops.”
A source close to the family says: “When Gerry went to check on Madeleine at 9.05pm he realised the bedroom door was open. Gerry is firmly of the view the abductor was already in the apartment.”
It’s another theory.
“When he went in he saw Madeleine was asleep but the bedroom door was slightly open. He thought, ‘That’s odd’ because he had left it firmly closed. But all the children were asleep. So he just went in and closed the door again and came out about 9.10pm.”
Good to hear Gerry McCann joining in the mood of speculation?
“Gerry is convinced the man must have been hiding, and once Gerry went through the patio doors the only way out was through the window. The front door was locked so the kidnapper took Madeleine and climbed out the window.”
DAILY MIRROR front page: “HOW SHE WAS TAKEN. The McCanns’ story.”
“Stolen to order after being spied on for days
Abductor hid in flat as Gerry looked in on kids
He got in through patio doors and out by window”
Gerry is a “heart specialist”.
Says a source: “When Gerry leaves, the man realises he has only a few minutes. He thinks the only way to get out without being seen is through the window.”
And: “Initially he thought Madeleine might have got up and gone to the toilet, or to get a drink or something.”
So what has changed? Why a new theory now, with a new spokesman on hand and the McCanns named as suspects?
DAILY STAR front page: “SEVEN HOURS TO KLILL MADDIE. Police probe her ‘lost’ final afternoon”
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE: THE MISSING SEVEN HOURS.”
Police sources reveal that “despite exhaustive inquiries they cannot confirm the whereabouts of part-time GP Kate, 39, and her daughter after 1.29pm on May 3”. A source said Kate’s movements were “unaccounted for until she sat down to have dinner with friends at a tapas restaurant within their holiday complex at around 8.40pm”.
The last photograph of Madeleine was said to have been taken by Kate at 2.29pm on May 3.
DAILY MAIL: “McCanns: What we really did in the missing six hours.”
“Madeleine had high tea at 5.30pm with staff at the Kids Club. She was picked up shortly before 6pm by Kate and Gerry.”
The friend insisted: “Kate was never alone with Madeleine that afternoon. There were always other witnesses present. These details were all given to detectives during police interviews, so they know what Kate and Gerry said happened that day.”
So no missing hours, then?
THE TIMES front page: “MADELEINE McCANN: Matthew Parris laments a PR disaster.
“The fatal flaw of David Cameron and Kate and Gerry McCann” - Our correspondent looks at the baleful influence of the marketing men.
“Look what they’ve done to Kate and Gerry McCann. Here were two people deserving of the most intense public sympathy. On a superficial level they got it – by the media bucketload. Yet did you not sense from an early stage an undertone of irritation at the couple? I’ve sensed it everywhere I go: not a sign of doubt about their innocence, which most of us take for granted, but a feeling, nevertheless, that they in some way invited trouble – though we banish the thought as brutal and wrong.
“Which it is. So why the ungenerosity? I believe it is because Kate and Gerry McCann have allowed an impression to arise that they and their advisers are marketing their own tragedy. Where we would have expected to see parents distracted and disorganised by grief, we have seen a professionally run campaign to find out what the media want, and give it to them.
“This has been done for a most defensible reason: to enlist the entire European public as amateur detectives in the search for Madeleine. But now her parents have ended up looking like film stars in a Hollywood weepy.”
“Put up or shut up, Madeleine McCann police told” - Friend of McCanns counters claims of ‘lost’ six hours before girl vanished
DAILY TELEGRPAH: “Madeleine McCann: Gerry certain he was in bedroom with kidnapper”
THE GUARDIAN: “From prime suspects to hounded victims - how parents turned the media tide”

think you will find that not quite everyone in Praia thinks they are innocent.

Two churches in Praia… one Catholic, One Anglican. Believe it or not everyone gets on fine; both priests are there permanently and both were involved with the McCanns. Neither of them are missing!

565 Was that the Catholic preist who has gone missing or the Anglican priest who replaced him?

565 - LOL!
You definitely can’t hear mine. I’ve been struggling all summer long with the “knit one, pearl two” stitch. The most basic stitch there is. I can’t do a pearl stitch for the life of me. Much like being a lefty who can’t use the right hand for much of anything.

Surely the whole point is - if they used the Club during the day - why not also use it in the evening, rather than leaving the children alone in an unlocked room? As you point out - Madeleine and the twins might well have loved it! This whole sad debacle stems back to one fundamental action…
The McCann children were left alone in an unlocked room and one of them is missing.
No amount of ‘We are innocent’ or ‘I (Gerrypops) had abolutely nothing to do with her physical disappearance’ spin-cleaning can erase this fact.

We don’t know that Madeleine was autistic or that she had any learning difficulties, that is just speculation stemming from her unique eye.
September 22nd, 2007 at 7:38 pm
558 - I do like that theory!!! It’s possible - think it’s happened in other cases.
Too bad he’d have to leave the priesthood for that. Perhpas the Catholic Church should start to look favourably upon confessional snitches.
Maybe they would have avoided a great deal of corruption and cover up should that be the case.
September 22nd, 2007 at 7:38 pm
The Priest hasn’t gone anywhere.. he performed mass today in Praia as he has every day.
Consensus in Praia is abduction… parents being extra vigilant.
Just skimmed through a few posts….. I can hear the knitting needles from here!

549. I think Madeleine’s picture was removed from Vatican’s web site a day or two before KM was made an arguida.
I also think I read that the Pope criticised in a speech all unnatural ways of getting a child as purchasing a product that you get rid of if it doesn’t meet the expectations. This may have occured during this period that Madeleine has been missing and may even have played a role in the mcCann’s decision to convert from Catholicism. I’m not sure if all that are facts or just rumours.
September 22nd, 2007 at 7:36 pm
Sometimes I wonder if it has been premiditated murder. Madeleine was autistic and mentally retarded. The dark spot in het eye could suggest some severe other medical problems too.
Not exactly the perfect child fot the Stepford Two.
September 22nd, 2007 at 7:36 pm
Of course they might have “dealt with” the priest so nobody ever finds out about the confession. If it’s a big organisation it can be arranged, I’m sure…

If the kid is sedated every night no need for Cuddles in the bed ever. Cuddles sits on the shelf with the drugs safe inside…

Carrying on from 558 … I find it very strange that a priest would disappear, if the only thing he did was provide comfort to bereaved parents. I feel that there’s far more to it. (And NO, I’m not accusing the priest in any way of Madeleine’s disappearance).
September 22nd, 2007 at 7:30 pm
I’m kinda hoping that a confession was made to the priest who has misplaced himself. Perhaps he’s gone away for a few days to decide wether to leave the priesthood and spill the beans. Maybe the confession has become a little too much for him to carry alone, and he’s desperately trying to find it within himself what to do. Just wishing, you know!

(553) Maria:
I did say that. I question if she remembered because the abductor putting the toy on the shelf thing is such a peculiarity. I imagine if a kid is really tired, they will fall asleep without their toy? I’m just keeping it in my mind as a possibility until any real facts are know that explain things more clearly.

(551) Lilith:
Care to share why you suspected them from day one? You don’t have to explain or give the gist of it, I’m just curious. It seems that the emotional reaction or leaving the children alone struck some people that they must be guilty.

543 Ok Emille
Here’s an idea. They always dose the kids up to go out on the piss. This time it went wrong because Maddie overdosed. Maybe Cuddles is where they stash the drugs and maybe that night by mistake she got hold of Cuddles from the shelf (out of reach as usual) and ate more pills. They all panic especially O’Brien who is hanging onto his job by a thread anyway (negligence inquiry). O’Brien and Katiepoo are an item so they decide to dispose of the body. They contact their dodgy friends (maybe including the Dutch cremator) who are also wrapped up is some illegal ring (paedos or drugs or whatever) to help them dispose of the body. They also offer help to influence aspects of the case (get government help, get immunity from Social Services,
In return they are under pressure to cover up the identities of the dodgy illegal organisation members. That includes the missing priest, of course - and politicians, media police/legal people - all connected through the freemasons. So the something bigger is the existence of respectable professionals up to no good in an organised way.

I’m not being rude, but I don’t think this is about whether or not the McCanns used the kids’ club for their children. Presumably other parents used these facilities as well?
How the parents chose to make use of the Ocean Club’s facilities is irrelevant to whether or not they are child murderers, to me anyway. I might not use the club for my own kids, but that’s not the point. Madeleine might have loved it anyway. They have all sorts of facilities and activities for kids. The Mark Warner site boasts about it. I bet a lot of parents choose the Ocean Club precisely because they have such facilities! I can understand you may not like the idea but it doesn’t make them killers or cover-up criminals.
Wanderer
Sorry, can’t find the relevant post! I think you wondered in one post if Kate McCann forgot to give Madeleine the cuddle cat? But kids don’t LET you forget to give them the toy they go to sleep with!!! No chance! A lot of kids just can’t go to sleep without their comfort toy. I thought Kate had said the toy was in Madeleine’s arms when she fell asleep? (May be wrong but I thought I’d read or heard she’d said that. Could be wrong as could any report.) That sounds more likely to me. Judging by my kids anyway!!

If you really want to know anything, all you have to do is call Phil, she’ll fill you in on the whole situation! Bring a camera if you must!
Sorry again Blunger, I meant that the reason 466 is there was due to my quote (471) being in response to your 466, I didn’t mean to make it look like it was your quote, just copy and pasted too hastily! Sorry again, and I’ll shut up about it now.

I hope you don’t mind me breaking in.
I suspected the parents from day one and have been following this case ever since.

Anyone know what time the Post Office closes? I want to get the extra rope in the mail to the McCanns asap.

Missing priest
If there was a confession then a priest can forgive but not divulge.
He may have been removed to protect him from being hounded by the press. I heard that the Pope took down Maddies poster from his web site when the McCanns were made arguido but I do not know if this is true.
