Madeleine McCann: Robert Murat Innocent, Private Detectives & Kate McCann’s Hot Lips
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
DAILY MIRROR front page: “WE’LL FIND HER OURSELVES. Maddy parents bring in SAS private detectives”.
Kate and Gerry McCann have hired Control Risk Group, billed as a “crack security firm”, to find their daughter.
Page 5: “THE PROFESSIONALS” – There’s TV show in this. The Portuguese police could be the Keystone Cops, at least that’s what the tabloid press portrays them as.
“Millionaire ex-double glazing boss” is the mystery benefactor paying McCanns’ spokesman Clarence Mitchell’s wages. The former window cleaner owns Sale Sharks ruby union club. Look out for their new sponsor.
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE. ‘McCanns ARE LYING’ - Portuguese police says friends are in cover-up.”
Robert Murat is to be told he will not face charges. Kate and Gerry McCann will be the only named suspects.
“SMILING” – The WORLD’S GREATEST NEWSPAPERS leads with a picture of Kate McCann grinning.
Pages 4 and 5: “Kidnap? We just don’t; believe it.” It is reported in Portugal that an unnamed Irishman has come forward to say he was in the same place as the McCanns’ friend Jane Tanner. She told police she had seen a man carrying child dashing from the Ocean Club resort in the direction of Robert Murat’s home. The new witness says he saw no-one.
“’GUILT’ OF PARENTS - More than 60 per cent think the couple know what has happened to Madeleine.”
“WHEN KATE WAS HOT LIPS HEALEY” – 15 YEARS AGO Kate was nicknamed hot lips for her resemblance to Loretta Swit in TV comedy M*A*S*H. The Express has seen her Dundee University year book and the comments - “Kate was great fun”; “renowned for alcoholic binges and some ‘dance till you drop’ nocturnal activities”; “she was certainly more interested in going to the pub than she was in her studies” etc.
DAILY STAR front page: “MADDIE: PARENTS ARE LYING. Cops say McCanns & friends tried to frame suspect Murat.”
Pages 4 and 5: “McCANNS ‘ARE LYING’.”
A phone poll: “DO YOU BELIEVE THE McCANNS ARE LYING?” Let’s see if we can top that 60 per cent in the Star’s sister paper the Daily Express. Vote now and vote often.
THE SUN pages 12 and 13: “TWIN’S LIFT FOR MUM AND DAD.”
Kate and Gerry McCann are with son Sean. They have been to Mass. Kate sobs when Ave Maria is sung. Daughter Amelie is in nursery school. She is plying with the Cuddle Cat. She bursts into laughter, “her giggles rang around the building”.
DAILY MAIL front page: “Madeleine:
• Ex-SAS team joins hunt
• New sighting in Morocco
• Kate breaks down in church
• Police accused over forensics”
Page 8: “McCanns hire an ex-SAS team to hunt for Maddie.”
“Second witness supports sighting in Morocco” – Remember when Marl Pollard said she saw Madeleine in Morocco? Now we lean that a man also saw Madeleine in Morocco.
THE INDEPENDENT PAGE 17: “Murat no longer suspect.”
DAILY TELEGRAPH page 10: “McCanns hired detective firm with ex-SAS men”. Under Portuguese law, the McCanns are not permitted to carry out their own investigation in Portugal. But they can investigate in other countries.
THE TIMES front page: “McCann investigators” – McCanns hire private security firm.
Pages 12 and 13: “How they managed to turn campaign around.” The McCanns are “winning the propaganda war”. They have gone on the “offensive”.
A family source says: “It is for the police to prove they are guilty.”
GUARDIAN: No Madeleine news today.

114 - Gordon Brown has resigned, changed his name to Geordie Broon, and moved his family to a Tyneside sink estate for safety.

brandoflour, i have been branded both heartless and as hard as nails for at least the last 20 years. That father , when he gave his appeal on tv almost caused a tear
September 24th, 2007 at 11:27 am
How do you think Gordon Brown is feeling now?
I tell you living in South Africa we have our fair share of corruption etc.
But hell it is what is expected from the third world.
Yet the sham we are witnessing now is meant to be from one of the
worlds leading nations.
Oh my God.
We are doomed.

The Mirror wanted to finger Murat, but not that hole!

The Tapas 9 have been busy pointing the finger at Murat throughout….
September 24th, 2007 at 10:56 am
Oh Yes and about the people that have been looking for her since May 3rd.
They have also not come up with anything.
Why have they not been labeled bungling fools.
It would be a supreme irony if the people brought in to help a cover up actually
solved the crime.
This is definitely a case of life is stranger than fiction.
September 24th, 2007 at 10:56 am
I feel so sorry for Murat. Imagine what it’’s been like for him all this time. Lucky for him the Portuguese are very forgiving people and he’ll probably wind up the town hero. Though, if i were him, I’d shun those who shunned me and I’d sue the bottoms off that reporter who turned him in as being suspicious and started this whole nasty ball rolling.

The ‘Daily Express’ website ‘Comment’ forum is lively this morning, with 80 comments published already, many of them highly sceptical about the McCanns’ version of events. Here’s one sample, though I don’t quite agree with the logic about the confusing and contradictory statements. if people are fundamentally lying about something and making the whole thing up, their stories are bound to break down at some point:
=========================================================
INCONSISTENCY OF STATEMENTS (’Express’ comments)
24.09.07, 10:20am
QUOTE
I think if the parents had done it and the tapas 9 were in the the know before dinner then their stories would have matched much more. They would have made sure that they did indeed check at 30 minute intervals and that everyone was where they should have been. It would have been a very convincing story, if planned well enough.
However, the fact that statements are all over the place (even the parents’ statements) suggests to me that what happened either:
1) happened before dinner and that very few of the tapas 9 were involved at that early stage.
2) was discovered during dinner at one of the parents ‘checks’ and rapidly covered up, again without the knowledge of most of the tapas 9.
3) is the result of abduction, with all the consumption of alcohol rendering the parents and their friends in an alcoholic daze and unable to remember where they were and when. But I would have thought that even with excessive alcohol consumption the parents and their friends would have no need to change their stories and in the worst case scenario could simply say they were plastered and can’t really remember where they were and when. This would have been much better for the search for Madeleine. Why make anything up at all and change stories, unless something is being covered up?
My money would be on 1).

92. Jazzy.
I am not saying getting pissed was the accident.
It was one of many links in a chain.
They had successfully left the kids alone often.
Nothing happened.
One day it did.
I personally think it could have been over sedation.
Giving an overdose to a child would of course be accidental.
Surely.
It was not pre-meditated.
Those kids do look well cared for is what I am saying.
Have the parents being igoring the twins since their return.
No, they have been going on nice family outings.
Yeah tongue in cheek but I still think they need some stability right now.
Two years old and a future of the deepest misgivings is what await the little ones.
If parents did do it - how are they ever going to trust a human being again?

Makes me think of the Lady Bracknell quote from Oscar Wilde’s “The Importance of Being Earnest”;
”To lose one child may be considered a misfortune, but to lose two seems like downright carelessess.”

sorry, make that 1 year ago. they werent all born 4 years ago!
September 24th, 2007 at 10:48 am
The twins would never be ‘taken’ by Social Services!
Firstly nothing has happened in the UK. secondly the only reason SS are involved is because there is a possibility of charges in Portugal and SS need to know that plans are in place in the event of the McCanns having to go back..
The first option in that event will ALWAYS be family.
You can petition all you like and mutter about private prosecutions but unless you’re going to hotfoot it to Portugal and try it there you’re wasting your time.
Far better to petition and campaign about Zimbabwe and Darfur to name but two areas that really need help. Imagine harnessing the anti-McCann feeling and transferring it to anti-Mugabe.
Now that would be worthwhile.
September 24th, 2007 at 10:45 am
And a “friend of the Mccan” family might suddenly remember seeing him 4 years ago at Tesco’s supermarket looking at Madeleine and the twins

How can you say “Accidents Happen”
Leaving 3 children alone, 1 gone missing, thought to be dead is not an accident.
Tripping over and breaking your leg is an accident. Putting your head in a a gas oven isn’t. Falling asleep in your apartment and not hearing an abductor could be classes as an unfortunate accident. Boozing down the tapas bar and leaving doors unlocked isn’t.
September 24th, 2007 at 10:45 am
there could be some evil Moroccan bogey-man who has been stalking them for years….
