Madeleine McCann: Robert Murat Innocent, Private Detectives & Kate McCann’s Hot Lips
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
DAILY MIRROR front page: “WE’LL FIND HER OURSELVES. Maddy parents bring in SAS private detectives”.
Kate and Gerry McCann have hired Control Risk Group, billed as a “crack security firm”, to find their daughter.
Page 5: “THE PROFESSIONALS” – There’s TV show in this. The Portuguese police could be the Keystone Cops, at least that’s what the tabloid press portrays them as.
“Millionaire ex-double glazing boss” is the mystery benefactor paying McCanns’ spokesman Clarence Mitchell’s wages. The former window cleaner owns Sale Sharks ruby union club. Look out for their new sponsor.
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE. ‘McCanns ARE LYING’ - Portuguese police says friends are in cover-up.”
Robert Murat is to be told he will not face charges. Kate and Gerry McCann will be the only named suspects.
“SMILING” – The WORLD’S GREATEST NEWSPAPERS leads with a picture of Kate McCann grinning.
Pages 4 and 5: “Kidnap? We just don’t; believe it.” It is reported in Portugal that an unnamed Irishman has come forward to say he was in the same place as the McCanns’ friend Jane Tanner. She told police she had seen a man carrying child dashing from the Ocean Club resort in the direction of Robert Murat’s home. The new witness says he saw no-one.
“’GUILT’ OF PARENTS - More than 60 per cent think the couple know what has happened to Madeleine.”
“WHEN KATE WAS HOT LIPS HEALEY” – 15 YEARS AGO Kate was nicknamed hot lips for her resemblance to Loretta Swit in TV comedy M*A*S*H. The Express has seen her Dundee University year book and the comments - “Kate was great fun”; “renowned for alcoholic binges and some ‘dance till you drop’ nocturnal activities”; “she was certainly more interested in going to the pub than she was in her studies” etc.
DAILY STAR front page: “MADDIE: PARENTS ARE LYING. Cops say McCanns & friends tried to frame suspect Murat.”
Pages 4 and 5: “McCANNS ‘ARE LYING’.”
A phone poll: “DO YOU BELIEVE THE McCANNS ARE LYING?” Let’s see if we can top that 60 per cent in the Star’s sister paper the Daily Express. Vote now and vote often.
THE SUN pages 12 and 13: “TWIN’S LIFT FOR MUM AND DAD.”
Kate and Gerry McCann are with son Sean. They have been to Mass. Kate sobs when Ave Maria is sung. Daughter Amelie is in nursery school. She is plying with the Cuddle Cat. She bursts into laughter, “her giggles rang around the building”.
DAILY MAIL front page: “Madeleine:
• Ex-SAS team joins hunt
• New sighting in Morocco
• Kate breaks down in church
• Police accused over forensics”
Page 8: “McCanns hire an ex-SAS team to hunt for Maddie.”
“Second witness supports sighting in Morocco” – Remember when Marl Pollard said she saw Madeleine in Morocco? Now we lean that a man also saw Madeleine in Morocco.
THE INDEPENDENT PAGE 17: “Murat no longer suspect.”
DAILY TELEGRAPH page 10: “McCanns hired detective firm with ex-SAS men”. Under Portuguese law, the McCanns are not permitted to carry out their own investigation in Portugal. But they can investigate in other countries.
THE TIMES front page: “McCann investigators” – McCanns hire private security firm.
Pages 12 and 13: “How they managed to turn campaign around.” The McCanns are “winning the propaganda war”. They have gone on the “offensive”.
A family source says: “It is for the police to prove they are guilty.”
GUARDIAN: No Madeleine news today.

in the uk the Act permits the court hearing the charge against you to draw such inferences as appear proper from the fact of your silence in: Failure or refusal to account for objects, substances or marks found on your person, in or on your clothing or otherwise in your possession, in the place where you were arrested.
this was just a single straw in our erotion of civil liberties, the mccanns have escaped so far in portugal since the right to silence is still their fundamental right

there seems to be a PR McCannic push to discredit the PJ.
the gritted teeth well done to Murot was about the PJ getting it wrong by suspecting him, the Morocco stunt was why didn’t PJ take over the Morocco police force’s job, so the we have to hire the SAS ‘cos the PJ is crap is part of the same stuff.
It would be funny though if the “sas” bods turned up nothing… Even better if one got arrested for illegal operations in a foreign country…

Stevo - I found it:

the very last question is at 9:53
where kate gives a nervous laugh and looks everywhere but in the camera and looks down and says …she knows we love her
when asked to give a message directly to Madeleine.
How many of us would have looked straight into the camera and said …dont worry sweetheart Mummy and Daddy will see you soon……??????

I wonder how many of the Tapas 9 have returned to work. I’d hate to be one of their patient’s.
September 24th, 2007 at 11:10 pm
For the person who asked above about the Tapas9 and paedophilia.
Personally I would assign that a pretty low probability on what I have heard so far.
But I don’t totally rule it out. Fact is so often stranger than fiction.
If for instance evidence appeared to show that Maddy was dressed in adult-like princessy clothes, and wore makeup far, far more frequently than the average child - that might alter the probabilities a little. Like that poor little “beauty queen” who was murdered in the US.
But at present, on balance, no. I think I can see more likely explanations which don’t require it.

You can’t be sued for telling the truth. They’d have to sue a long line of people before small fry like us. Starting with the papers…
September 24th, 2007 at 11:09 pm
Is it coincidence or what? Bernard Manning died a month after Madeleine went missing. I’m sure he’d have had plenty of jokes on the subject if he was still alive.
September 24th, 2007 at 11:08 pm
I stand most strongly beside Tony Bennett in everything he said and also the things I added also.
If I am to be sued by the McCanns let it happen, I have nothing to fear.

on reading back that should say 1994!
September 24th, 2007 at 11:07 pm
the right to silence was stolen from us in 1997 they still have that luxury in portugal which is why it would be wrong for gordon brown to interfere.
silence to questions in the uk is a catch 22 situation, if you refuse to answer any questions it will go against you if you later rely on a specific area of questioning or evidence in court. the bounds of which were never documented, hence silence is almost an admital of guilt.
in the uk the mccanns would have been charged for their lack of comunication during interview since they were unable to answer questions regarding eidence against them
September 24th, 2007 at 11:07 pm
I say we all email Sky and ask about that missing video. If only to hear what bullshit response they give us.
September 24th, 2007 at 11:06 pm
Nice post, Stig; very funny!
It has been mentioned that there is nothing to indicate that the McCanns did not answer any questions during their interviews. I will accept that newspaper claims to the contrary cannot be taken as fact.
My feeling is, however, that they did not answer certain questions, and those unanswered questions include the issues their Spin central team have been bizarrely addressing recently. Had they not been asked about this during investigation, then they would not be answering queries that would, to their knowledge, be pure media speculation. So if the police told them certain things as “facts” then you can deduce they were asked to explain themselves.
Does that make sense?
September 24th, 2007 at 11:06 pm
787 - Stig. I think you have a great sense of humour! Just not sure about some of your interpretations of reports!!! And don’t go and get huffy now. We need your and Mods contributions to keep us all going back into nappyland.

I know. I trawled through every Sky video on Madeleine and noticed it’s gone.
Now isn’t that odd or what?
September 24th, 2007 at 11:04 pm
Gerry has no problem talking to Sky about the speculation but he stormed out of the interview with the Portuguese geezer. Why?
September 24th, 2007 at 11:04 pm
Likewise Michael.
Bring it on.
A libel trial would be an even better forum to debate this issue than the Anorak forum.
September 24th, 2007 at 11:04 pm
I am suprised that there have been no police leaks about the McCanns bodylanguage at interviews.
It is a well known joke that if the police think you are guilty of a crime they get you to do an interview on TV.
There is a lot of interviews where they are trying hard not to move their hands but the eye movements and scratching of the nose are red flags!
Stevo - that interview has been removed from Sky News archives!
September 24th, 2007 at 11:03 pm
This is a good interview on Sky back on August 25.

Hols are for yer morgue jeans and pathology book beach read
September 24th, 2007 at 11:02 pm
When the police say “anything you say may be taken down and used in evidence against you…”, why don’t they say “anything you say may be taken down and used in evidence FOR you”?
Surely when Gerry stormed out of that interview in Portugal when asked about blood being found in the apartment, he could have said he knew nothing about it instead of spitting his dummy out? What secrecy law was going to go against him for denying the blood came from Madeleine?
September 24th, 2007 at 11:00 pm
tony, good decision, it really would not have been worth the emotional strain and personal vendettas people brew in themselves over emotional subjects like this.
good man

You’re alright…I like the banter with you. Nothing personal ok?
September 24th, 2007 at 10:58 pm

And libel has to be something directed at them and indisputable. Like I say, are they going to file a class action suit? If there was a vote I’m sure there’s more against them than for them.
September 24th, 2007 at 10:57 pm
765 Stevo
Of course not - it was a joke. Of course this will just reinforce everyones belief that I have no sense of humor
September 24th, 2007 at 10:56 pm
And the Tapas 3 grilled Murat on July 13?
http://news.sky.com/skynews/article/0,,91210-1275069,00.html
September 24th, 2007 at 10:55 pm
Why the sudden admission by the McCanns that CRG are involved and have been for 4 months? Hardly helps the anonymity of the investigators or do the McCanns want a confrontation with the Portuguese authorities as CRG are purportedly in Portugal and Morocco?
September 24th, 2007 at 10:55 pm
The McCanns and their legal team can take all the action they want against me for posting what I feel is right on this site.
They can sue me and I would love for them to do it because thats the only way they will end up in court.
