Madeleine McCann: Robert Murat Innocent, Private Detectives & Kate McCann’s Hot Lips
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
DAILY MIRROR front page: “WE’LL FIND HER OURSELVES. Maddy parents bring in SAS private detectives”.
Kate and Gerry McCann have hired Control Risk Group, billed as a “crack security firm”, to find their daughter.
Page 5: “THE PROFESSIONALS” – There’s TV show in this. The Portuguese police could be the Keystone Cops, at least that’s what the tabloid press portrays them as.
“Millionaire ex-double glazing boss” is the mystery benefactor paying McCanns’ spokesman Clarence Mitchell’s wages. The former window cleaner owns Sale Sharks ruby union club. Look out for their new sponsor.
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE. ‘McCanns ARE LYING’ - Portuguese police says friends are in cover-up.”
Robert Murat is to be told he will not face charges. Kate and Gerry McCann will be the only named suspects.
“SMILING” – The WORLD’S GREATEST NEWSPAPERS leads with a picture of Kate McCann grinning.
Pages 4 and 5: “Kidnap? We just don’t; believe it.” It is reported in Portugal that an unnamed Irishman has come forward to say he was in the same place as the McCanns’ friend Jane Tanner. She told police she had seen a man carrying child dashing from the Ocean Club resort in the direction of Robert Murat’s home. The new witness says he saw no-one.
“’GUILT’ OF PARENTS - More than 60 per cent think the couple know what has happened to Madeleine.”
“WHEN KATE WAS HOT LIPS HEALEY” – 15 YEARS AGO Kate was nicknamed hot lips for her resemblance to Loretta Swit in TV comedy M*A*S*H. The Express has seen her Dundee University year book and the comments - “Kate was great fun”; “renowned for alcoholic binges and some ‘dance till you drop’ nocturnal activities”; “she was certainly more interested in going to the pub than she was in her studies” etc.
DAILY STAR front page: “MADDIE: PARENTS ARE LYING. Cops say McCanns & friends tried to frame suspect Murat.”
Pages 4 and 5: “McCANNS ‘ARE LYING’.”
A phone poll: “DO YOU BELIEVE THE McCANNS ARE LYING?” Let’s see if we can top that 60 per cent in the Star’s sister paper the Daily Express. Vote now and vote often.
THE SUN pages 12 and 13: “TWIN’S LIFT FOR MUM AND DAD.”
Kate and Gerry McCann are with son Sean. They have been to Mass. Kate sobs when Ave Maria is sung. Daughter Amelie is in nursery school. She is plying with the Cuddle Cat. She bursts into laughter, “her giggles rang around the building”.
DAILY MAIL front page: “Madeleine:
• Ex-SAS team joins hunt
• New sighting in Morocco
• Kate breaks down in church
• Police accused over forensics”
Page 8: “McCanns hire an ex-SAS team to hunt for Maddie.”
“Second witness supports sighting in Morocco” – Remember when Marl Pollard said she saw Madeleine in Morocco? Now we lean that a man also saw Madeleine in Morocco.
THE INDEPENDENT PAGE 17: “Murat no longer suspect.”
DAILY TELEGRAPH page 10: “McCanns hired detective firm with ex-SAS men”. Under Portuguese law, the McCanns are not permitted to carry out their own investigation in Portugal. But they can investigate in other countries.
THE TIMES front page: “McCann investigators” – McCanns hire private security firm.
Pages 12 and 13: “How they managed to turn campaign around.” The McCanns are “winning the propaganda war”. They have gone on the “offensive”.
A family source says: “It is for the police to prove they are guilty.”
GUARDIAN: No Madeleine news today.

923. Murder.
I suppose the only problems would arise in a court of law when, under oath, the witnesses were asked why their statements now differed from their sworn statements to the police.
Honestly, I think it’s come to a point at which I, if I were in charge of this case in Portugal, would say f**k it, f**k the McCanns and their daughter, the case is closed, we believe Madeleine is dead and until/if we receive further evidence as to her whereabouts we will not be spending any more resources on finding her.
Sure the press would have a field day but the storm would pass and people would forget.
And hopefully the McCanns would disappear from sight to deal with their loss and/or guilt.

I am appalled I had 4 kids under 7 and looked after 2 more and have done so till now the eldest is 14.
I remember my mum dipping her finger in guiness to give our eldest and having a fight!!!!!!!!!!
she said she did to all of us and so did her mum
Never left us in a foreign country with doors unlocked on a hidden road with african boogeymen hiding in spare rooms granted but……………
I holidayed in butlins for years, 2 hrs from london door to door bognor
we left at 7am to arrive at 10 on beach
we had double buggies, we had a few drinks we stayed out until 9
we ran after them, we scolded them when they winged for glow in the dark swords, we danced to the spice girls, we pushed double buggies whilst holding
older child in arms……………….
I cant believe that the outcome of all this is a message to our kids is its ok to drug and leave your kids if the dose and yards are ok!!!!!!!
They must be made an example of
like the school system who let huntley become a caretaker

To be fair to the Daily Mail interviewer, he/she tried hard for the right result with regard to “They’ve taken her”. But the Nanny stuck to her guns.
Thus:
“Asked if it was the only thing she said, Miss Pennington answered…….”
and then, despite her having been totally certain:
“Asked why she thought Mrs McCann might have shouted “They’ve taken her”, Miss Pennington said………”
Thought ? Might ?
The reply was even more emphatic. She is hardly a walkover. This NOT what the McCanns would want her to say.
September 25th, 2007 at 2:00 am
Actually… come to think of it, since they haven’t been charged, I guess there’s no problem with their lawyers directly ‘coaching’ them.
This bizarre ‘case’ really does set all sorts of strange precedents. Top criminal lawyers working with PR consultants to prepare a trial even before any charges are brought in a different country.
But I guess the lawyers, famous for defending obviously guilty mass murderers like Pinochet and (allegedly) the Omagh bomber, however good, might have been hired before the new PR team took over.

“He was outside the lobby just before we started on our big search,” she said.
“He was adamant that he wasn’t there. But he was. He was there in the road, he was just looking. It was about 10.30. He was just watching
–
This reads like the nanny is looking at Mr Murat in the road and he’s saying, “I’m not here. Honestly.”

Apologies if this appears more than once, my posts don’t appear to be appearing!

On the pros and cons of heavily sedating small children for aircraft flights:
http://travel.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/travel/holiday_type/family/article2521355.ece
It seems everyone does it, and the only con is : it might not work.
Excerpt:
“They slept for a full 14 hours - including the transfer through Miami airport”, she relayed nonchanlantly.
“They finally woke up in the car on the drive to the house, they were so completely zonked that I did begin to worry that they weren’t ever going to wake,“ “

blunger - the change from ‘They’ve taken her’ to ‘Madeleine’s gone’, like Gerry’s sudden realization there was evidence of the abductor being in the room with him at 9:05, are simply the results of the long recent meetings with their British lawyers, who have clearly been trying to get the nearest thing they can to a coherent narrative - taking in earlier statements by K&G and what is known of other witness statements, and other evidence, from the PJ’s recent questions, then modifying any inconvenient earlier T9 statements to match the new hopefully more coherent story. As ‘a source close to the McCanns’ said a week ago, they’ve been ‘working on their defence’ (before being charged with anything).
I think it’s called ‘coaching your client’, and I think you’re not really supposed to do it, but all good criminal lawyers do, through their carefully structured questioning.

“Nanny Charlotte Pennington confirms that Kate McCann did scream: “They’ve taken her, they’ve taken her!”
The mother’s precise words have become a pivotal issue in the case, with Portuguese police questioning why she would automatically assume Maddie had been abducted.
Mrs McCann’s family have countered this by insisting they recall her shouting: “Madeleine’s gone.”"
This does make the oh-so-recent “Madeleine’s gone” claim look very like pure spin from the McCann PR campaign. One of the “objections” boxes to tick. It only stood for about 4 days.
Maybe they “insist they recall” it suddenly now, but not publically for the previous 3 months.
I wonder if they were forewarned of this interview ?
However, it does seem to position M securely in someone elses vision at about 6pm.
Valuable data.

“why has my last post been under moderation since y/day?”
in my experience that happens if your post has more than one URL link in it. Keep it to one URL per post and continue across two posts to post more than one.

” high” tea bad choice under circumstances
September 25th, 2007 at 1:32 am
She said: “I was helping give the children high tea. The twins were there and Madeleine and both parents.
Do 20 year olds from Surrey really say “high tea”? Sounds bloody pretentious to me. Also could this “nanny” be the one who used the same phrase earlier this week as a “source”?
September 25th, 2007 at 1:31 am
“The following afternoon she was one of the first people to give witness statements to the Portuguese police.
Since then, she said, she has spoken to a Portuguese detective once and to two British detectives.”
Reminds us of the mountain of witness statements in the PJ file, which we cannot see. By comparison, evryone else has just about NOTHING.

She’ll be rocking the cradle while they go touring and writing books!
Was she the nanny from hell they tried to steer away from hiring that night?
September 25th, 2007 at 1:26 am
Where’s she been?
she did it she s the pam ewing i predicted
September 25th, 2007 at 1:25 am
Quote from the “nanny”.
“We get missing children all the time, and I have seen plenty of hysterical mothers. But none of them were like Kate.”
My guess is she won’t be working at a MW resort next season.
September 25th, 2007 at 1:24 am
Maddy was eating in a group, with the nanny, until 6pm.
She is convinced of their innocence but says
“We get missing children all the time, and I have seen plenty of hysterical mothers. But none of them were like Kate.”
??
We must beware of possible Daily Mail reporting bias, but this looks more solid than most of the stuff so far.

You really could not make this shit up. Over 4 months after the event and this “nanny” suddenly comes forward. Where has she been until now, being “debriefed” by the SAS?
September 25th, 2007 at 1:18 am
Twins were quickly removed to another apartment.
Parents were distraught.
BUT, she is ADAMANT Murat was watching from the road, despite all his denials.
Read it, it needs absorbing.

Reading some of the comments on there it looks like the McCann PR machine is steamrollering in there too.

Mark Warner nanny, one of the first on the scene, gives a full interview to the Daily Mail from her home in England.
She confirms exact words “They’ve taken her” were shouted by kate many times, though not necessarily first.
