Does any one remember Cat Stevens here or am I just really dating myself? Hey, I’ve never gone on a date with myself. What am I say??!!
Seriously, I came to one important conclusion over the weekend and I’ll share it with anyone who cares enough to listen and learn. A while back, I was wondering why I wasn’t in my groove on this forum. As a blogger, what’s up with that? But then I realized, it’s not that I am not still groovy baby, it’s just that this is murder mystery for Generation X. This is the GenX missing person’s sensationalized/tabloid story - the first ever - so there’s a passing of the torch here in many ways. Think about it: Kate and Gerry are both in their 30’s still, they are the GenX crowd and the Tapas 9 are all Gen X’ers too - with the exception of Dianne Webster the grandma there at the Tapas bar.
We baby boomers have had PLENTY of our murder missing persons cases - but this is the very first where the victims (if you can call them that) are GenX’ers. Now, the U.S. Census bureau defines a Boomer as anyone born btwn 1946 - 1964 so technically, if you’re born after that, then this is your GenX first real case that is entirely yours! Woo-Hoo!! Baby Boomers, take note, what this implies is that you shouldn’t expect front and center positioning on the forum any longer. It’s ok to lurk on the sidelines but to be the ego centrist at a party that you’re clearly not invited to, is well, rather ego centric for lack of a better description… heee, heee.
I’ve decided to bow out because of this - It’s important to let the “kids” have their time in court here and run the show. Baby boomers, take note - we’ve had the JonBenet Ramsey case all to ourselves (the parents are boomers), the Natalie Holloway case (same thing) and the Lacey Peterson case (Lacey’s mother, you guessed it, is a boomer). Now, I like to think of myself as a young boomer….a cusper if you will…..but still, when push comes to shove, I’m over the hill. The Madeleine McCann case is THE first official Gen X (and Gen Y) case and it’s time we let those X’s and Y’s fly the coop!!

Oh… the McCanns’ PR team have got to the legal team, trying to distance the McCanns from the man awaiting judgement on the Omagh bombing (if not from the other mass murderer with whom they’re tactfully sharing lawyers, General Pinochet):
Solicitors for the parents of Madeleine McCann have said they have no plans to meet lawyers who defended Omagh bomb suspect Sean Hoey.
It was earlier reported they were to have talks about DNA testing.
Belfast lawyer Kevin Winters said a meeting with solicitors Kingsley Napley would take place next week.
However, a spokesperson for the McCann family said while they had been contacted they had “no plans to meet them at the present time”.
Mr Winters had said the McCann legal team contacted his firm and a meeting with one of his staff, Peter Corrigan, the instructing solicitor in the Omagh defence team, had been scheduled for Belfast next week.
Mr Corrigan told the Irish News his work would involve “exposing the unreliability of LCN DNA”.
It followed allegations that the four-year-old’s DNA was found in the boot of Gerry and Kate McCann’s hire car weeks after their daughter disappeared.
LCN (Low Copy Number) DNA is believed to have been the test used by Portuguese police to deduce that Madeleine had been in the car after her disappearance from an apartment in the Praia da Luz resort.
It magnifies potential forensic evidence, however, it is argued that this process can result in possible distortion.
A total of 29 people, including a woman pregnant with twins, lost their lives when a Real IRA bomb exploded in Omagh, County Tyrone, on 15 August 1998.
Sean Hoey, 37, from Jonesborough, County Armagh, is the only person to be charged in connection with the atrocity.
He denies a total of 56 charges, including 29 counts of murder.

Andy - there might a better case at the moment for making false statements or perverting the course of justice, than for any form of homicide (but how many of the conflicting statements were actually made under oath?).
But right now it seems quite possible that the police will do precisely what you suggest - very publicly ‘close the file’ until any further evidence emerges, effectively saying: ‘we know they’re guilty, but can’t formally prove it… let everyone make their own judgment in the court of public opinion’ - where, like OJ, they’ll get the appropriate verdict, and live condemned and imprisoned by the consequences.
As good Catholics (?) they should know that Justice works in mysterious ways.
