Madeleine McCann: A House Of Love, Find the Body & What Kate McCann Screamed
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE. ‘FIND BODY OR McCANNS WILL ESCAPE’ – Prosecutors ultimatum to Portuguese police.”
The case against Kate and Gerry McCanns is “hanging by a thread”.
A police sources says: “There is a determination within the force to bring this investigation to a satisfactory conclusion but there is a growing fear that without a body, that goal will be impossible.”
Pages 4 and 5: “Our reputation is tarnished forever” – Each day the McCanns prepare themselves for the “worst case scenario”. No, not that they will be wrongly convicted, rather they will learn of Madeleine’s death.
Clarence Mitchell says: “In the middle of this people forget this is still a family who are potentially facing bereavement but are still in that awful limbo position of not knowing what has happened to their daughter.” Thankfully Mr Mitchell is on hand to remind people of this every day.
“Doubts on the McCanns by a lie detector expert” – THE WORLD’S GREATEST NEWSPAPER asks John Ryan, of International Truth Verification Technologies Institute, to listen to Kate McCann’s voice. Says she: “However I think there is some sort of deception when I hear the lady speaking, either over the event or in avoiding showing her true feelings”.
DAILY MIRROR front page: “MADELEINE – find a body or there is no case.”
Page 5: “Gerry and Kate have often talked about the possibility of Madeleine being found dead. That would be the worst news but it would at least give them some..CLOSURE”. So says a “source close to the legal team”.
Antonio Cluny, President of the Public Prosecution Service, says: “Without the little girl’s body, everything is complicated… In the Maddy case, there is no confession and, according to what has been made public, the evidence gathered up until now keeps all leads open – from abduction to homicide or at least to a simple accident”.
DAILY MAIL front page: “EXCLUSIVE: Eyewitness reveals Maddie’s mother DID shout: ‘They’ve taken her’ after four-year-old vanished. WHAT KATE DID SCREAM.”
Nanny Charlotte Pennington is in Praia da Luz. She hears Kate McCann scream: “They’ve taken her, they’ve taken her!” The McCanns say Kate screamed “Madeleine’s gone”.
Sensation. Front-page news.
Page 4: “Nanny Pennington, who worked at the Ocean Club, is pictured. She’s wearing a brown beret and a pink coat. Her tights are black. Her legs are crossed.
“I was in the apartment less than five minutes after they found that Madeleine had gone. When we were coming out we saw Kate and she was screaming: ‘They’ve taken her, they’ve taken her’… It might not have been the first thing she said. But she definitely said it.”
So…
“She also repeated Madeleine’s name and said: ‘She’s gone, she’s gone.’”
Anyone hear anything else?
THE SUN page 24: “MADDIE LAW CHIEF: NO BODY, NO CASE.” Antonio Clunes says: “There have been cases in which it was possible to obtain a conviction without a victim – but there were confessions.”
But the McCanns are innocent, says a source. And they are not confessing. They are talking through their spokesperson.
DAILY STAR front page: “COPS CLOSE IN ON MADDIE. Final pieces of tragic jigsaw falling into place.”
Pages 4 and 5: “FIND THE BODY OR THEY WALK. Law bosses tell Portuguese cops to step up hunt.”
“TWINS’ HOUSE OF LOVE” – Clarence Mitchell says the McCanns have built a “house of love” for their family. Mr Mitchell says the McCanns are living “every parent’s worst nightmare times ten”. Mr Mitchell used to work for the tabloid press.
DAILY TELEGRAPH page 13: “Case against McCanns ‘rests on finding body’.”
Clarence Mitchell says: “They did not harm, let alone kill her.”
THE TIMES page 11: “No body, no conviction says McCann police.”
THE GUARDIAN & THE INDEPENDENT: No Madeleine news.

Stig- the children were taken out of the bedroom - but could still have been sedated - but who knows? Does not state that the children were taken out of the apartment.

The other point is that quote ‘we’ve had other mothers with missing children but none acted like Kate’
Wonder why…..
September 25th, 2007 at 11:54 am
So here’s a new question that’s not been asked yet… As Gordon Brown is a close friend and had an alleged 45 minute phone chat. Do you think he knows what really happened?
September 25th, 2007 at 11:53 am
118. I think they’re innocent too.
I was talking about the newspapers. Haven’t you noticed the deifying comments about Kate and Gerry or the way their P.R.s talk about them - ‘A House of Love’ is the latest syrupy addition.
September 25th, 2007 at 11:52 am
112 - Stig. As this witnesses statement was been available from the beginning why has Team McCann not used it themselves to add weight to their timelines?
I do not dispute it - why should I? On what grounds? However, I am still completely confused by the statements made by the McCanns themselves - KM picked up M while G was playing tennis. They both picked up M. One of them had dinner with the twins. Both of them did. They all had dinner together - parents, M and twins. G was simultaneously playing tennis and dancing in a completely different restaurant with M.
Is it any wonder people are confused and therefore take this latest ‘revelation’ with a pinch of salt.
Note you do not comment on the other aspect of the story - what did KM say?
Personally I no longer care because I think it is irrelevant and no matter what she or her husband say/said - or their spokepeople - nothing can be taken seriously anymore.

119 I think the problem is that the McCanns THEMSELVES think they are perfect parents, while many millions of others tend to disagree…

Bless Ade - go sleep it off love!!

Yes Stig- GM was outside shouting for Maddy before KM shouted out ‘they’ve taken her!’ and before 10pm.
Plus the Murat sighting.

105,
“And the fact is the ardent pro-McCanns want them to be something they’re not - the worlds most perfect parents, selflessly, symbolically tormented for eternity - and that will be a terrible burden to live under.”
Strange I have never thought the McCanns were the worlds perfect parents nor do I think anyone else really thinks so because because perfect parents do not exist but I do think in my humble opinion that they are innocent of killing their daughter. I think the PJ are barking up the wrong tree.
In fact all your negative comments/opinions about them along with the other McCann Haters are actually achieving a situation where if they were ever prosecuted the charges would be dropped because a fair trial could never happen not with all the negative commentary and leaks to the press which are then put into the public domain both in Portugal and in the UK.

111 noseyone
Oh bugger, is it that obvious. I think it’s a leftover from the 4 (or was it 14) pints of Doom Bar that I tucked away last night - in the interests of solving the McCanno set disappearance of course.
The bar receipt was never found…
I reckon Brown knows what happened. Ooos there’s a man from Hereford at the door…
September 25th, 2007 at 11:43 am
What kind of doctor is Who then?
please don’t reply.
September 25th, 2007 at 11:42 am
111 - maybe he knows something we don’t ?
The origional ACL Blair was abducted by the CIA and replaced with a clone - Cherie knew and almost organised a massive media campaign to find him - but then decided she prefered the new one? Or was she replaced with a clone as well?? We should really pledge here and now to leave no stone unturned until we get to the truth!

Sorry just poured a cuppa and thought I’d pour some oil onto the flames… Anyone notices that dentists are getting in on the act too. I notices several years ago when I was in the USA the dentists called themselves Dr on the brass plates. recenly it’s been catchinh on here too.
Now that’s plain stoopid ‘cos we all know dentists are a branch of surgeons (as in dental surgeon). And surgeons like to be called Mr in Blighty. Something fishy here. I think we should be told…
And bomber Harris - and Suitcase Murphy - or was that suitcase gerrykins.
Back to the plot - does G Brown know what really happened?
September 25th, 2007 at 11:40 am
My consultant was called Dr Dorwood. My brother’s surgeon was called Mrs White. I don’t know why.
September 25th, 2007 at 11:40 am
Ok all you conspirators, time to wake up.
I presume you have all read the story/interview concerning the nanny.
http://tinyurl.com/34xuqv
So why have none of you latched onto possibly the most interesting thing she said?
I will give you a clue. Are there not suggestions by the PJ that they suspect sedatives were involved because everyone was coming and going in the apartment and….
Come on you lot, join up the dots. That is more than enough clues slowpokes.
I have to go and do mundane stuff so I will leave you to it.
September 25th, 2007 at 11:38 am
47 - Why did you refer to the former PM as “the right Honourable A P Blair”?
It is common knowledge in legal circles that his name is Anthony Charles Lynton Blair, although I have also heard him called Charles Anthony Lynton Blair.
September 25th, 2007 at 11:38 am
Ade - how much have you had to drink this morning????
September 25th, 2007 at 11:37 am
85. I’m bored with them too. It feels like a Summer story that’s dragging on.
Which is terrible - but that’s what the media is and they chose to use it.
September 25th, 2007 at 11:36 am
106 bt - you are right - however a lot of the ‘younger’ consultants prefer to retain their Dr titles
September 25th, 2007 at 11:36 am

Why are they not strictly allowed to call themselves doctors without having a PhD? They are medical practitioners, i.e. doctors. Most PhDs aren’t.
September 25th, 2007 at 11:36 am
I have worked with medical “doctors” and without exception they oncede they without a PhD or DSc they are strictly not allowed to use the title Dr.
Trust me I’m a Dr (but not a doctor) hahahahaha they are coming to tale me away… hehehehehe
These there’s Doctor Who which any fule kno is plain wrong. he’s a scientist doc (notice the fudge word doc which applies to both) with a PhD so what the hell is he doing pretending to be a medic (i.e. doctor). I think we should be told.
Any chance of moving on from this one and probing the Brown connection?
Admin: Just as long as we have it crystal clear an Lld is also entitled to use the title Dr. and that’s Dr. agw to you lot. I share my life with a nursing sister who cares not a jot about the Dr. title…and I agree. I did not have strive nearly as long or as hard as a “proper” Doctor like what the Good Doctor’s McCann. are. Though, unlike them, I do know a little of the Law…which grinds exceeding slow at times but it is relentless.
September 25th, 2007 at 11:35 am
I always thought that in medicine a person takes years to qualify as a doctor to be called Dr Brown and then, if going further up the ladder takes years to become a consultant and go back to plain Mr Brown again.
A person can be be known as Dr if they complete their doctorate. This can be in any subject so they can be Dr Brown even if they know nothing about medicine but a lot about literature.
September 25th, 2007 at 11:34 am
I ended up feeling sorry for the McCanns this morning.
I thought all the along the publicity was so overblown it was disgusting and not helpful (it was more like the Angel of Mons hysteria than a crime case - and mythologising Madeleine when you think she’s still alive is a bad move - there were false sightings all over the place).
But maybe they can’t help being calculating in public - maybe it’s a quirk of their personalities.
And the fact is the ardent pro-McCanns want them to be something they’re not - the worlds most perfect parents, selflessly, symbolically tormented for eternity - and that will be a terrible burden to live under.
Where as us anti-McCanns just want them to shut up and get out if the spotlight - if they listened to us their lives would be a lot easier. We all know about Madeleine. No more P.R. is needed.
September 25th, 2007 at 11:33 am
Proof if ever it were needed that the public support against Gerry and Kate was on the wane. Well done Clarence at least some one is fighting their corner.

I am losing the will to live.
September 25th, 2007 at 11:29 am
95 - and ditto for GP’s
September 25th, 2007 at 11:28 am
95 - my point earlier was that in order to become a consultant one must have completed postgraduate qualifications - equivalent to / or an actual PhD.
September 25th, 2007 at 11:27 am
I’m just posting the link to some new illustrations, which have come out on the matter (madder?), but I have no intentions to enter the trap today.
