Madeleine McCann: A House Of Love, Find the Body & What Kate McCann Screamed
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE. ‘FIND BODY OR McCANNS WILL ESCAPE’ – Prosecutors ultimatum to Portuguese police.”
The case against Kate and Gerry McCanns is “hanging by a thread”.
A police sources says: “There is a determination within the force to bring this investigation to a satisfactory conclusion but there is a growing fear that without a body, that goal will be impossible.”
Pages 4 and 5: “Our reputation is tarnished forever” – Each day the McCanns prepare themselves for the “worst case scenario”. No, not that they will be wrongly convicted, rather they will learn of Madeleine’s death.
Clarence Mitchell says: “In the middle of this people forget this is still a family who are potentially facing bereavement but are still in that awful limbo position of not knowing what has happened to their daughter.” Thankfully Mr Mitchell is on hand to remind people of this every day.
“Doubts on the McCanns by a lie detector expert” – THE WORLD’S GREATEST NEWSPAPER asks John Ryan, of International Truth Verification Technologies Institute, to listen to Kate McCann’s voice. Says she: “However I think there is some sort of deception when I hear the lady speaking, either over the event or in avoiding showing her true feelings”.
DAILY MIRROR front page: “MADELEINE – find a body or there is no case.”
Page 5: “Gerry and Kate have often talked about the possibility of Madeleine being found dead. That would be the worst news but it would at least give them some..CLOSURE”. So says a “source close to the legal team”.
Antonio Cluny, President of the Public Prosecution Service, says: “Without the little girl’s body, everything is complicated… In the Maddy case, there is no confession and, according to what has been made public, the evidence gathered up until now keeps all leads open – from abduction to homicide or at least to a simple accident”.
DAILY MAIL front page: “EXCLUSIVE: Eyewitness reveals Maddie’s mother DID shout: ‘They’ve taken her’ after four-year-old vanished. WHAT KATE DID SCREAM.”
Nanny Charlotte Pennington is in Praia da Luz. She hears Kate McCann scream: “They’ve taken her, they’ve taken her!” The McCanns say Kate screamed “Madeleine’s gone”.
Sensation. Front-page news.
Page 4: “Nanny Pennington, who worked at the Ocean Club, is pictured. She’s wearing a brown beret and a pink coat. Her tights are black. Her legs are crossed.
“I was in the apartment less than five minutes after they found that Madeleine had gone. When we were coming out we saw Kate and she was screaming: ‘They’ve taken her, they’ve taken her’… It might not have been the first thing she said. But she definitely said it.”
So…
“She also repeated Madeleine’s name and said: ‘She’s gone, she’s gone.’”
Anyone hear anything else?
THE SUN page 24: “MADDIE LAW CHIEF: NO BODY, NO CASE.” Antonio Clunes says: “There have been cases in which it was possible to obtain a conviction without a victim – but there were confessions.”
But the McCanns are innocent, says a source. And they are not confessing. They are talking through their spokesperson.
DAILY STAR front page: “COPS CLOSE IN ON MADDIE. Final pieces of tragic jigsaw falling into place.”
Pages 4 and 5: “FIND THE BODY OR THEY WALK. Law bosses tell Portuguese cops to step up hunt.”
“TWINS’ HOUSE OF LOVE” – Clarence Mitchell says the McCanns have built a “house of love” for their family. Mr Mitchell says the McCanns are living “every parent’s worst nightmare times ten”. Mr Mitchell used to work for the tabloid press.
DAILY TELEGRAPH page 13: “Case against McCanns ‘rests on finding body’.”
Clarence Mitchell says: “They did not harm, let alone kill her.”
THE TIMES page 11: “No body, no conviction says McCann police.”
THE GUARDIAN & THE INDEPENDENT: No Madeleine news.

Okay, I would not be good on the drugging children jury, NO. I am hoping for change regarding the mentality of the medical profession. YES. I EXPECT resistance as a result of my critical view but I am up to the task on that subject, YES. If some of the circumstances of this case, in theory, are true the mentality of the medical profession may have contributed or are at least similar.

nononethere - I have not dicredited the nanny’s claims at all.
I was merely stating that the articles title was wrong to suggest it was backing a claim made by the Mccann friends when it was actually showing the opposite and not backing their claims at all.
And if it was not Gerry it was another male friend or someone that had been told to call the girls name MADDIE - also note that the nanny knew a child called MADDIE!!!!!!!!!!!

147, interesting in a way that someone could actually ponder over it and then post it here, maybe I expressed that incorrectly, but hey, there have been even more ridiculous theories posted.
regarding the nanny story she also swears that Murat was outside the apartment at 10.30 “just looking” (ian huntly style) and he is adament he was at home with his mother
September 25th, 2007 at 12:23 pm
Re 119
Maybe it was not GM who was shouting out a name before 10pm - then who?
September 25th, 2007 at 12:23 pm
143,
it is amazing how you quickly discredit this nanny’s claims. Do you know for a fact that it was Gerry calling out “Maddy” or could it have been others at the Warner Resort who were helping in the search. There is no reason for this woman to lie, she works for the resort. Funny how you omit the part where she insists that she saw Murat there that night.

I can not believe you actually thought that it was interesting, for me it just sounds like the most ridiculous thing I have ever read.

The Daily Mail today -
Just before 10pm the last mother arrived to collect her child from the creche and mentioned that she had just bumped into a man, who had been shouting a name.
“She didn’t get the name, but she said it sounded something like ‘Abbey, Gabby or Maddie’. We automatically went into lost-child procedure. In these situations, the first thing we do is investigate the scene.
“We knew that one of the other nanny’s charges was called Maddie. We told the head of department what had happened and she took us straight to the apartment.
“There were no children in the room. The twins had been taken out already, I think by one of the McCanns’ friends.
“When we were coming out we saw Kate and she was screaming: ‘They’ve taken her. They’ve taken her!’
Sam’s comment - Why did Gerry call Maddie when he was looking for her that night???
He made it VERY clear to the press that we should call her Madeleine since she will not respond to Maddie!!!!!!!
And why is this article called Nanny witness backs McCann claims????
- The article shows how Kate called out ‘they’ve taken her’ and not ’she’s gone’ as the McCann friends claim.
-therefore the article does NOT back the McCanns claims AT ALL!!!!!!!!

#132 Karen,
Well, if psychologists think repeating a distortion contributes to believing and IF that is what is going on in this case, what responsible party will do something to bring reality? IF, this case is about a distorted reality, which would mean Clarence and how many others are contributing, then how to solve the problem?
September 25th, 2007 at 12:15 pm
136 well put patricia
That nutty female GP in EastEnders was popping pills from the cabinet and blamed the shortfall on the receptionist who got the sack…
Now I know it’s only scriptwriters and fiction - but so is this whole mad circus. The difference is that EastEnders employs talented writers…
Seriously, I take on board your point about habitual becomes normality in drug abuse. Take it one stage further. Medics have a morbid sense of humour about death. Part of the territory I suppose. Dealing with bodies is much more matter-of-fact for them than for lay-people like us…
September 25th, 2007 at 12:14 pm
133. I didn’t mean 6 times in a row. 6 times as part of real social interactions - eg. you tell someone that you’re a minor Princess but you don’t use your title, you pad it out with supporting details and then you repeat it sincerely at different events to different people.
It then becomes part of your self-image, you can’t think of yourself as not being that minor royal, to tell the truth would reduce your status and alert people to the idea that you’re a liar, or a fraud. Instead, you believe it’s true.
Families are full of that kind of myth, started by one member as a status booster and passed down the generations only to be blasted apart by someone actually checking.
I know you were joking but I thought I’d explain it anyway, because I think that’s why the McCanns are behaving so oddly.
September 25th, 2007 at 12:12 pm
Karen,
132 - my hunch is that that is precisely what it boils down to - not as exciting as the numerous other theories that abound, but plausible - oh what a tangle web we weave what what.
As Harry Flashman once said, and this really is good advice, “when in trouble, get as close to the truth as you can and then don’t move an inch.
re the Rt Hon. A P Blair reference. It is something of an in joke from the early days at the Industrial Tribunals, as they then were; the days when Derry Irv. was, well, Derry what what.
September 25th, 2007 at 12:11 pm
125 Karen, sorry I also quoted your previous post as 105 when it was 104.
I take your point on board, but the papers make up their own titles to sell stories. And look at all the dumb polls in the papers about who thinks the McCanns are innocent or guilty. There are 1000’s of people who do not participate in such polls, including myself yet the press have a hey day with it as if it is actual proof of anything. Even Firestar has his own poll going on this fourm, what is the point of that when it is clear as day by reading all the posts that this forum is 95% against the McCanns. It was a double edge sword when the McCanns invited the press in. It is a monster that most people can not fight. Just look at war torn areas, where the media are quick to label who is good and who is evil, as if it were every that black and white. But then how do we ever get any news if the papers aren’t there and what do you do if your child goes missing, do you let the media know, do you not and just leave it to the police? It will be a hard one to answer for the future. Although I am sure the public can be helpful with information or credible sightings etc but the public can also decide it just doesn’t like you for whatever reason, hence forums such as this which just repeat the McCanns are guilty or we are Anti-McCann or as Ade said “keep it going guys we have almost NAILED them” without knowing any real facts.
September 25th, 2007 at 12:11 pm
again Karen, if you repeat it 6 times you start to feel it is true, well what they have been saying over and over and over, then it must be set in concrete.
I really hope she is still alive but I found an interesting theory on one of the forums that the parents did have something to do with it and they covered up the death by cremating her at the pet oven place, the ashes are now in cuddle cat that is why Kate never lets it out of her sight,
interesting me thought

Speculation about medicating children who have no illness so that the medication would be needed and used as a purpose is disturbing, yes. How would medication used unnecessarily and especially regularly affect a developing brain? Surely any medication, unless completely necessary to sustain life would be avoided? Any casual medicating is telling about the mentality of the McCanns as doctors as well as parents, yes. How could someone medicate a child for the first time and go out for the evening without worry? By the time a child needs medicating you would think the parents need to stay home? If a child has night terrors or sleepwalks that would be MORE reason not to take a chance leaving them alone. The option to medicate a child instead of using a sitter option or any other reasonable option COULD indicate a pattern and IS, no doubt, proof of poor decision making abilities.
Due to allegations that Madeleine could have been medicated indicates that possibility extending to the twins. Any of the three could wake alone and what would they do? Without knowing what type of beds the twins slept in, such as a crib or a regular bed, it is hard to speculate about the possibilities of being left alone for any length of time, regardless of worry about an abductor. I am assuming the test results which are pending will be of value in understanding more about all of the children.
My guess is anyone who would casually and unnecessarily medicate might be more likely to be a drug user too. Any unnecessary or casual use of drugs indicates a MENTALITY that should be questioned.
I don’t know if drugs played a role in Madeleine’s disappearance. If the children are medicated without an obvious and necessary reason I consider that child abuse.
September 25th, 2007 at 12:08 pm
132 puzzled
Good point - where’s the evidence FOR abduction. It’s weird but it’s like the saying if you say something enough times, over and over, it gradually becomes the truth. Is that what they planned all along? Must be if she comes out at the start saying “TAKEN her”.
You can see why PJ were suspicious and why it was changed to “she’s gone”.
that makes it all a bit sinister to say the least.
September 25th, 2007 at 12:06 pm
132. I am a Princess. I am a Princess. I am a Princess. I am a Princess. I am a Princess. I am a Princess. No. Didn’t work. Can’t find my tiara anywhere.
September 25th, 2007 at 12:04 pm
127. I think guilt because they left them alone in an unlocked apartment and instead of admitting from the beginning that it was a stupid risk they took thinking they’d get away with it (which in most cases they would have) they started talking crap to cover it up. Once they ruined the timeline, they would be too embarrassed to clear it up, (or maybe they believe it - psychologists say that if you repeat something 6 times it starts to feel true).
September 25th, 2007 at 12:02 pm
Also Stig. Why are you so opposed to even CONTEMPLATING the possibility that the McCanns are involved? Your resolute stance is very strange because I presume you would like to see M found. I am open to the McCanns only being guilty of neglect? I am open to it being someone else, but I would like some indication/evidence of that.
Most pro-McCanns ask for evidence that it was not an abduction. I ask for evidence that it was.
