Madeleine McCann: A House Of Love, Find the Body & What Kate McCann Screamed
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE. ‘FIND BODY OR McCANNS WILL ESCAPE’ – Prosecutors ultimatum to Portuguese police.”
The case against Kate and Gerry McCanns is “hanging by a thread”.
A police sources says: “There is a determination within the force to bring this investigation to a satisfactory conclusion but there is a growing fear that without a body, that goal will be impossible.”
Pages 4 and 5: “Our reputation is tarnished forever” – Each day the McCanns prepare themselves for the “worst case scenario”. No, not that they will be wrongly convicted, rather they will learn of Madeleine’s death.
Clarence Mitchell says: “In the middle of this people forget this is still a family who are potentially facing bereavement but are still in that awful limbo position of not knowing what has happened to their daughter.” Thankfully Mr Mitchell is on hand to remind people of this every day.
“Doubts on the McCanns by a lie detector expert” – THE WORLD’S GREATEST NEWSPAPER asks John Ryan, of International Truth Verification Technologies Institute, to listen to Kate McCann’s voice. Says she: “However I think there is some sort of deception when I hear the lady speaking, either over the event or in avoiding showing her true feelings”.
DAILY MIRROR front page: “MADELEINE – find a body or there is no case.”
Page 5: “Gerry and Kate have often talked about the possibility of Madeleine being found dead. That would be the worst news but it would at least give them some..CLOSURE”. So says a “source close to the legal team”.
Antonio Cluny, President of the Public Prosecution Service, says: “Without the little girl’s body, everything is complicated… In the Maddy case, there is no confession and, according to what has been made public, the evidence gathered up until now keeps all leads open – from abduction to homicide or at least to a simple accident”.
DAILY MAIL front page: “EXCLUSIVE: Eyewitness reveals Maddie’s mother DID shout: ‘They’ve taken her’ after four-year-old vanished. WHAT KATE DID SCREAM.”
Nanny Charlotte Pennington is in Praia da Luz. She hears Kate McCann scream: “They’ve taken her, they’ve taken her!” The McCanns say Kate screamed “Madeleine’s gone”.
Sensation. Front-page news.
Page 4: “Nanny Pennington, who worked at the Ocean Club, is pictured. She’s wearing a brown beret and a pink coat. Her tights are black. Her legs are crossed.
“I was in the apartment less than five minutes after they found that Madeleine had gone. When we were coming out we saw Kate and she was screaming: ‘They’ve taken her, they’ve taken her’… It might not have been the first thing she said. But she definitely said it.”
So…
“She also repeated Madeleine’s name and said: ‘She’s gone, she’s gone.’”
Anyone hear anything else?
THE SUN page 24: “MADDIE LAW CHIEF: NO BODY, NO CASE.” Antonio Clunes says: “There have been cases in which it was possible to obtain a conviction without a victim – but there were confessions.”
But the McCanns are innocent, says a source. And they are not confessing. They are talking through their spokesperson.
DAILY STAR front page: “COPS CLOSE IN ON MADDIE. Final pieces of tragic jigsaw falling into place.”
Pages 4 and 5: “FIND THE BODY OR THEY WALK. Law bosses tell Portuguese cops to step up hunt.”
“TWINS’ HOUSE OF LOVE” – Clarence Mitchell says the McCanns have built a “house of love” for their family. Mr Mitchell says the McCanns are living “every parent’s worst nightmare times ten”. Mr Mitchell used to work for the tabloid press.
DAILY TELEGRAPH page 13: “Case against McCanns ‘rests on finding body’.”
Clarence Mitchell says: “They did not harm, let alone kill her.”
THE TIMES page 11: “No body, no conviction says McCann police.”
THE GUARDIAN & THE INDEPENDENT: No Madeleine news.

245 - re the Quizz Master, do we know their quizz score: what questions did they get right, what did they get wrong and did they pass on anything - a proper investigation would have unearthed these details.

#233 nononethere Says: Response,
Hopefully there is going to be enough “hard” evidence to show what happened to Madeleine. That is what this is all about. Are you hoping for that too?
September 25th, 2007 at 1:24 pm
233. It’s a hard fact that they left Madeleine and the twins alone to go to a Tapas bar. It seems to be true that the door was unlocked and that they either lied about the timeline or were mistaken. It’s also a fact that they let lots of people into what they believed was a crime scene thereby ruining fingerprint evidence.
I don’t think they’re guilty because I don’t know what they would have done with the body - but there are facts that tell against them, not just opinions.

the nanny just seems to add to the confusion, eh?
what time did the quiz master join the table (invited by GM)?
9.30 I think, and she said no one left during the next 30 mins (I think).
GM was talking to his tennis buddy from 9.05 for 15 mins. (I have often thought that 15mins was a long time for a passing chat when your supposed to be at the dinner table). So GM gets back to the table at about 9.20 or 9.25. Then almost immediately asks the quiz bird to join them at the table.
He was being very sociable that evening, or was he getting alibis lined up?

better go, I have real work to get to.

How’s the new McCano set?
September 25th, 2007 at 1:21 pm
but patricia we don’t know she is dead. if there is any hope lefthat she is still alive then the last thing kate and gerry should do is antagonise the abductor surely.
September 25th, 2007 at 1:20 pm
232,
good to finally hear someone who thinks the McCanns are guilty as saying,
“YES. I don’t know that they did that”. It tells me Patricia that you really can distinguish opinion from fact.

Here’s why the law in the UK is on its arse:
“In October 1993, he was convicted of riding an unlicensed and uninsured motorcycle and received a £250 fine. In March 1996, more serious charges came forward, when he was convicted of watching TV without a licence and was again fined.”
This is an article about the notorious Ian Huntley.
Isn’t it astounding that the article says “…more serious charges came forward…” because he was watching TV without a licence.
I think what makes us all angry and frustrated about the McCanns is that we feel they may get off scot free and probably get rich in the process.
No wonder is there? The law and the police whether in Portugal or the UK are looking like a bunch of prats with this pair and their “Team”.
September 25th, 2007 at 1:18 pm
yeah, where is the priest, has anyone looked in the boot of the scenic in the secure place?

Caroline Says: Response #231
I hope you are correct and I can’t tell where you are from but I worry a lot about the sniff dog studies and the detection of death in various places. The UK claim to have “special” dogs. Also, I worry about the refusal to answer the questions put forth by the police in Portugal.
September 25th, 2007 at 1:18 pm
212 et al.
As I have already posted: from some contact in working with medics, especially surgeons, they have a very matter-of-fact way of dealing with death which is quite different from the rest of us.
September 25th, 2007 at 1:18 pm
217. nononethere.
So which time are you questioning? The “just before ten?” or the times given by the McCanns and others?
Personally I would believe someone who was about to finish work.

dont point that gun at your foot……
If you dont prescribe to the McCann celebrity influence then why do you believe they’re not involved with no evidence to support an abduction?
They may not be involved but to have no suspicion of such is a little strange considering what inconsistencies and contradictions we do know about.
September 25th, 2007 at 1:17 pm
any news on priest yet?
September 25th, 2007 at 1:17 pm
229,
many people based on their experiences would suggest the opposite. Opinions are one thing and are always full of personal prejudices, which is why they are opinions. And opinions do not stand up in a court of law, only hard facts.
September 25th, 2007 at 1:15 pm
My opinion also is the possibilty the McCanns, as doctors, might have been more likely than others to medicate and hide a body. YES. I don’t know that they did that.
September 25th, 2007 at 1:15 pm
All this talk about whether its Maddie or Madeleine, the poor girl is still missing and now we are told that Kate and Gerry have sanctioned ex SAS investigators to find her. I hope they have made the right decision. We have been told that Kate was advised that she should not show emotion so as not to give the abductor pleasure. Kate has come in for criticism, but she has taken the advice and been very stoic in her approach.
But now that the abductor hears that ex SAS are to be involved surely this will panic him. We all know the SAS have a fearsome reputation and looking at Controlled Risks website shows they are one of the best, especially for dealing with kidnaps. To the person who is holding Madeleine this would tell him that it won’t be long before he is found out, which means that the best thing he could do is kill Madeleine and get rid of her.
I just hope that Kate and Gerry have made the right decision in letting it be publically known that Controlled Risk are involved, and I hope they don’t come to regret this decision. I just want Madeleine to be returned to her family.

All of this is opinion. YES! Dah?

219 nononethere Says: Response to,
But my opinion is based on seeing is believing… I feel I have seen enough to suggest that. No, I can’t prove it but I COULD tell you where to look for much evidence.

I’m nearly 45. Dont trust anyone. Not to condemn the McCanns here but have you noticed (nothing to do with our ages) that with every passing year there appear to be more and more cases of relatives etc who even appear on tv to appeal to a killer/abductor and in so many cases they’re the one who did it. Good god its even got to the stage where I analyse the relatives first as soon as they appear. I dont know if this type of crime is on the increase or whether we’re just exposed to it more because of the media presence 24/7 in our lives. It doesnt exactly give you a ‘trusting mindset’ though, does it?
September 25th, 2007 at 1:12 pm
218,
there is no history of celebrity which is of the magnitude of MJ with regards to the McCanns. Glad to hear that you are studying English and Politics.
September 25th, 2007 at 1:12 pm
209. Actually, that’s why I ended up on this site; one of my lecturers said that we should monitor the press in this case because it was a new phenomenon.
September 25th, 2007 at 1:12 pm
“There were no children in the room. The twins had been taken out already, I think by one of the McCanns’ friends. (from the nanny’s statement today).
I thought that the twins were left in the room. That they slept through the whole thing. Were they in the room or not? Is relevant because of the sedation theory.
Anyone any ideas?
September 25th, 2007 at 1:11 pm

Of course you are right in some cases that could be true -see however 211 from Andy.
According to your views on time and place such statements are of no possible use in this case.

It’s OK “bollox” or “bollocks” is allowed since the famous Sex Pistols/Mary Whitehouse court case involivng copies of their LP “Never Mind the Bollocks it’s the Sex Pistols” (good album I felt) in Virgin record shop windows (bloody beardie Branson yet again…). One nil to the Sex Pistols, I fear.
I think it means what a clergyman spouts from his mouth when standing in the pulpit. hey, we’ve got a priest in this pantomime haven’t we? Has he been found?
Bollox from a teenager is fine by me. Now botox is another story…
September 25th, 2007 at 1:10 pm
The part I would worry most, in theory involving a death, is what there was to hide? The reason for the death?
September 25th, 2007 at 1:09 pm
In theory, as always, if Mr. McCann did panic and hide a body as a result…
If Mr. McCann exploited many people as well as a continued taped exploitation of his child, Madleine, that is where he had a choice and that isn’t a panic, in my opinion.
September 25th, 2007 at 1:09 pm
mccanns call their find madeleine site - ‘leaving no stone unturned’ Near Fatima is place called Avila which i beleive is also called City of Stones, could the two be related in some way?- maybe he is teasing the world by bandying about the name of where poor kiddie is (which is fred westish really with his comments about the patio!) sadly psychopathic killers are highly clever - and fantastic actors - so one is never sure who could be one - maybe he is, maybe not but at the end of the day they could’ve looked after their children properly but they chose not to.
September 25th, 2007 at 1:07 pm
212,
again massive assumption based on your opinion as you have no real statistics to back up your claim.
