Madeleine McCann: A House Of Love, Find the Body & What Kate McCann Screamed
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE. ‘FIND BODY OR McCANNS WILL ESCAPE’ – Prosecutors ultimatum to Portuguese police.”
The case against Kate and Gerry McCanns is “hanging by a thread”.
A police sources says: “There is a determination within the force to bring this investigation to a satisfactory conclusion but there is a growing fear that without a body, that goal will be impossible.”
Pages 4 and 5: “Our reputation is tarnished forever” – Each day the McCanns prepare themselves for the “worst case scenario”. No, not that they will be wrongly convicted, rather they will learn of Madeleine’s death.
Clarence Mitchell says: “In the middle of this people forget this is still a family who are potentially facing bereavement but are still in that awful limbo position of not knowing what has happened to their daughter.” Thankfully Mr Mitchell is on hand to remind people of this every day.
“Doubts on the McCanns by a lie detector expert” – THE WORLD’S GREATEST NEWSPAPER asks John Ryan, of International Truth Verification Technologies Institute, to listen to Kate McCann’s voice. Says she: “However I think there is some sort of deception when I hear the lady speaking, either over the event or in avoiding showing her true feelings”.
DAILY MIRROR front page: “MADELEINE – find a body or there is no case.”
Page 5: “Gerry and Kate have often talked about the possibility of Madeleine being found dead. That would be the worst news but it would at least give them some..CLOSURE”. So says a “source close to the legal team”.
Antonio Cluny, President of the Public Prosecution Service, says: “Without the little girl’s body, everything is complicated… In the Maddy case, there is no confession and, according to what has been made public, the evidence gathered up until now keeps all leads open – from abduction to homicide or at least to a simple accident”.
DAILY MAIL front page: “EXCLUSIVE: Eyewitness reveals Maddie’s mother DID shout: ‘They’ve taken her’ after four-year-old vanished. WHAT KATE DID SCREAM.”
Nanny Charlotte Pennington is in Praia da Luz. She hears Kate McCann scream: “They’ve taken her, they’ve taken her!” The McCanns say Kate screamed “Madeleine’s gone”.
Sensation. Front-page news.
Page 4: “Nanny Pennington, who worked at the Ocean Club, is pictured. She’s wearing a brown beret and a pink coat. Her tights are black. Her legs are crossed.
“I was in the apartment less than five minutes after they found that Madeleine had gone. When we were coming out we saw Kate and she was screaming: ‘They’ve taken her, they’ve taken her’… It might not have been the first thing she said. But she definitely said it.”
So…
“She also repeated Madeleine’s name and said: ‘She’s gone, she’s gone.’”
Anyone hear anything else?
THE SUN page 24: “MADDIE LAW CHIEF: NO BODY, NO CASE.” Antonio Clunes says: “There have been cases in which it was possible to obtain a conviction without a victim – but there were confessions.”
But the McCanns are innocent, says a source. And they are not confessing. They are talking through their spokesperson.
DAILY STAR front page: “COPS CLOSE IN ON MADDIE. Final pieces of tragic jigsaw falling into place.”
Pages 4 and 5: “FIND THE BODY OR THEY WALK. Law bosses tell Portuguese cops to step up hunt.”
“TWINS’ HOUSE OF LOVE” – Clarence Mitchell says the McCanns have built a “house of love” for their family. Mr Mitchell says the McCanns are living “every parent’s worst nightmare times ten”. Mr Mitchell used to work for the tabloid press.
DAILY TELEGRAPH page 13: “Case against McCanns ‘rests on finding body’.”
Clarence Mitchell says: “They did not harm, let alone kill her.”
THE TIMES page 11: “No body, no conviction says McCann police.”
THE GUARDIAN & THE INDEPENDENT: No Madeleine news.

Would there be separate counts in right of each child? If you wanted to beef up the indictment, surely you would be on firmer ground to have one count for each evening out what what.
I suspect, not knowing anything of Portuguese Crime law and procedure (like the rest of the team here), that the fact that, right at the start, the PJ said that it was not child neglect b/c the parents had remained within the curtilage of the MW complex, coupled with the fact that the Doctors McCann have been questioned without (so far as we can estalish) been told that they are suspected of child neglect is going to make it very difficult procedurally to now bring child neglect charges.
I make no comments at this stage as to whether the evidence is there to prove to a criminal standard child neglect - there is likely to be an objective as well as a subjective element to the test and it is all going to be a matter of fact, degree and perception. Generally, I suspect that it is not as clear cut is the Anorak mob assumes that it is.
Anyway, do excuse me, I have a few thousand pounds of paper work to get through by stumps

Hope you don’t mind me posting this again from the end of the last thread
Now that I’m completely bored with the bloody McConns I’ve been on the Meccano web site.
http://www.meccano.com/about/index.php
Did you know that Frank Hornby invented Meccano in Liverpool? katiepoo is a scouser as we all know. Also it’s the centenary of Frankie’s invention. Happy birthday Meccano or is that McCanno?
For this who don’t know McCanno is a system of nuts and bolts and shaped objects that you can fit together to make all sorts of wonderful creations. Then you simply dismantle bits of them and rebuild them with new bits and you make a completely different creation…
You can spend hours, days months doing this and there’s always a new creation to make, especially if you have a rich relative who keeps buying you more and more McCanno sets and pays for lots of helpers with the nuts and bolts…
Funny coincidences there…

Tha Mccanns of all persons should have been able not to overdose while “playing” with narcotics on a child. Regardless of this being the throught or not, I fear other parents will come up with the same stupid idea in the very near future…

Has anyone seen brians latest dreams?
They look like o brian and tanner with nooses round their necks

In reply to lawener… I only find the Mcann’s guilty of leaving their children alone in an apartment while they wined and dined unperturbed by the scenario that their 3 children under the age of 4 could have been disturbed and kidnapped.. now the scenarios which they did not have the intelligence to consider, have turned into a nightmare, a nightmare that they will never wake up from. Guilty of child neglect, that is my acusation, and I hope their child is still alive and is being held simply as a punishment to all parents who take their children’s welfare for granted, and simply are not intelligent enough to understand that 3 children left alone with unlocked doors in another country, or any place, is totaly, and utterly wrong and they will have to live with this stigma for the rest of their lives, whatever the outcome of their daughter’s disappearance. I beleive that little Madeleine is still alive, and pray my thoughts turn out to be true.

gerry mccann is not a surgeon he is only a consultant, he finds the dicky hearts and then sends them to the surgeon for surgery with a report on the fault, Kate is a surgeon as such as she qualified as an anethasist but preferred to be a GP as she wanted to have children
September 25th, 2007 at 10:24 am
also trying to stay away, but very hard. Maybe a bit irrelavant. It is true that it is illegal to leave a child under the age of 13 alone in Britain. (if this is true, why the hell did they leave tham when NOT in Britain) Im confused - Good parents
September 25th, 2007 at 10:24 am
47 39 but he said “call be Tony”

42. Noseycow, I tend to agree with you insofar as the PJ playing a cunning game. I believe that they suspected some sort of cover-up quite early on, but looked to lull the McCanns into a false sense of security.
But the only problem: Regardless of how clever and perceptive they may be, it appears, if news reports are to be believed, that they thus far don’t have enough evidence with which to prosecute.
Or do you think this is another media manipulation?

As neither of them has a PhD degree neither of them is strictly allowed to use the title Dr. This is why surgeons like to be called Mr.
Funnily enough, family friend Gorgie Brown does have a PhD degree and is therefore entitled to call himself Dr Brown - but chooses not to…
Not alota people know that
September 25th, 2007 at 10:20 am
50, 4 counts dont forget cuddle cat, and yes I believe they can, if someone pushes for it, but then apparently they all left their kids alone so surely they would all have to be charged
September 25th, 2007 at 10:15 am
50 - should be in reply to 49. Admin and Mod keep slip in additional postings every now and then just to see if we are all on our toes.
Off to make a nice cup of tea and hope for a reply when I get back (re 44 still!)

Not entirely sure why it should come as any surprise that the British public have displayed poor manners. That, sadly, is their want.
Howeover, there is no need for me to be infected the contagion. Fortunately, as the standards of those around me are eroded, my eminence grows - to use a geologist’s analogy
I was always careful to refer to our former PM, when in he was in office, as the Right Honourable A P Blair, First Lord of the HM’s Treas. Or, less formally, as the Prime Minisiter - never Tony, or even Mr Blair, what next - Tone!

trying to stay away but alas…… why has gerry’s blog stopped ?? is this on the advice of his PR or do the PJ still have his laptop
September 25th, 2007 at 10:07 am
Sorry - but who is Colin Fry?
September 25th, 2007 at 10:07 am
On charges of neglect. Maybe someone with legal knowledge will be able to help. Could they (theoretically) be charged with 3 counts of neglect - one for each child?
September 25th, 2007 at 10:06 am
I’d love Colin Fry to do an audience with them
September 25th, 2007 at 10:03 am
I have always thought that the pj have been ‘playing games’ with the McC’s through the media, and have bee very clever about it, these last two weeks we’ve seen a lot of early ‘rumours’ confirmed as fact, and Team McC jumping in to refute them.
Yesterdays article about the investigation into the McC’s car trip to Spain is very interesting - I think that the PJ are onto something and are goading the McC’s yet again.
It hasn’t been picked up by the british press yet (give it a few days), and so has not been spun by camp mc’c, but I think Maddies body will be found following the McC’s inevitable story telling, (may involve stopping at a roadside shrine - or changing a wheel…). Then Wham …PJ announce that they’ve found Maddie showing the teflon 2 to be the liars that we know them to be and the British press to be …well, whatever….gulible, stupid, bought and paid for…
Game set and match to the pj.

Since lie detectors are so unreliable, why don’t they undertake some good old fashioned pentathol or some “truth drug” .? I am actually a tad bored of them and their 65098 versions, and witnesses who appear to have had amnesia or been in a coma for almost 5 months, popping so conveniently out of woodworks. I used to think they were innocent of everything, except being selfish enough to leave such young children alone at nights .Thanks to being stream rolled by Clarence and them I no longer believe them .Jaded and cynical. And Madeline still missing despite the (alleged) searching since May from SAS. And today back to some nanny who says she DID say “They have taken her”..Who are “they” ???? Why not “She has been taken? ” And back to fingering Murat, whom police have cleared .
I am more concerned about the thousand of kids who are abducted in Congo to be raped ,drugged and forced into being killing machine soldiers.
I like anyone else do not know for a fact if they are guilty or innocent ( and merely victims of their own hyped PR now) I do know i have had a gutfull of the PR about it.
Thank goodness Guardian and Independent and Jon Snow have more or less bailed too until/ unless there is real progress or “news”

maybe the twins should sue them!!!!
September 25th, 2007 at 10:02 am
36 - Seymour. Please tell me that was tongue in cheek about not calling him ‘Gerry’. If not the poor British public have displayed appalling manner for years calling Anthony Blair - ‘Tony’!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
September 25th, 2007 at 10:01 am
so is “source” a euphomism for lying git?
September 25th, 2007 at 10:00 am
And why do the forensic people and the PJ not sue them for defamation of reputation? After all they wanted to sue some Portugese tabloid - so let the counter sueing begin.
Would seem like a good time to be a solicitor - there will be lots of work.
September 25th, 2007 at 9:58 am
The Doctors McCann do indeed comprise two doctors. I was earlier referring to Doctor Gerald McCann. On mature reflection, I do not feel I know him well enough to use the over familiar “Gerry”.
