Madeleine McCann: A House Of Love, Find the Body & What Kate McCann Screamed
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE. ‘FIND BODY OR McCANNS WILL ESCAPE’ – Prosecutors ultimatum to Portuguese police.”
The case against Kate and Gerry McCanns is “hanging by a thread”.
A police sources says: “There is a determination within the force to bring this investigation to a satisfactory conclusion but there is a growing fear that without a body, that goal will be impossible.”
Pages 4 and 5: “Our reputation is tarnished forever” – Each day the McCanns prepare themselves for the “worst case scenario”. No, not that they will be wrongly convicted, rather they will learn of Madeleine’s death.
Clarence Mitchell says: “In the middle of this people forget this is still a family who are potentially facing bereavement but are still in that awful limbo position of not knowing what has happened to their daughter.” Thankfully Mr Mitchell is on hand to remind people of this every day.
“Doubts on the McCanns by a lie detector expert” – THE WORLD’S GREATEST NEWSPAPER asks John Ryan, of International Truth Verification Technologies Institute, to listen to Kate McCann’s voice. Says she: “However I think there is some sort of deception when I hear the lady speaking, either over the event or in avoiding showing her true feelings”.
DAILY MIRROR front page: “MADELEINE – find a body or there is no case.”
Page 5: “Gerry and Kate have often talked about the possibility of Madeleine being found dead. That would be the worst news but it would at least give them some..CLOSURE”. So says a “source close to the legal team”.
Antonio Cluny, President of the Public Prosecution Service, says: “Without the little girl’s body, everything is complicated… In the Maddy case, there is no confession and, according to what has been made public, the evidence gathered up until now keeps all leads open – from abduction to homicide or at least to a simple accident”.
DAILY MAIL front page: “EXCLUSIVE: Eyewitness reveals Maddie’s mother DID shout: ‘They’ve taken her’ after four-year-old vanished. WHAT KATE DID SCREAM.”
Nanny Charlotte Pennington is in Praia da Luz. She hears Kate McCann scream: “They’ve taken her, they’ve taken her!” The McCanns say Kate screamed “Madeleine’s gone”.
Sensation. Front-page news.
Page 4: “Nanny Pennington, who worked at the Ocean Club, is pictured. She’s wearing a brown beret and a pink coat. Her tights are black. Her legs are crossed.
“I was in the apartment less than five minutes after they found that Madeleine had gone. When we were coming out we saw Kate and she was screaming: ‘They’ve taken her, they’ve taken her’… It might not have been the first thing she said. But she definitely said it.”
So…
“She also repeated Madeleine’s name and said: ‘She’s gone, she’s gone.’”
Anyone hear anything else?
THE SUN page 24: “MADDIE LAW CHIEF: NO BODY, NO CASE.” Antonio Clunes says: “There have been cases in which it was possible to obtain a conviction without a victim – but there were confessions.”
But the McCanns are innocent, says a source. And they are not confessing. They are talking through their spokesperson.
DAILY STAR front page: “COPS CLOSE IN ON MADDIE. Final pieces of tragic jigsaw falling into place.”
Pages 4 and 5: “FIND THE BODY OR THEY WALK. Law bosses tell Portuguese cops to step up hunt.”
“TWINS’ HOUSE OF LOVE” – Clarence Mitchell says the McCanns have built a “house of love” for their family. Mr Mitchell says the McCanns are living “every parent’s worst nightmare times ten”. Mr Mitchell used to work for the tabloid press.
DAILY TELEGRAPH page 13: “Case against McCanns ‘rests on finding body’.”
Clarence Mitchell says: “They did not harm, let alone kill her.”
THE TIMES page 11: “No body, no conviction says McCann police.”
THE GUARDIAN & THE INDEPENDENT: No Madeleine news.

One of the maids tells me dinner is served. Missed high tea because I was Anoraking. Bastard luck I say. And I still need to look at the drainage in the lower field before telly…

Again a pro McCann explanation that explains nothing but is merely a remote possibility………and how many contradictions is that in total now you have tried to dismiss merely because it is possible to do so? You want to spend your time worrying less about countering valid points with possible alternatives and wonder more why, if innocent, that there are so many contradictions regarding the McCanns available in the first place.
I know damn well if it were my child missing and I was innocent, then nobody would have reason to discuss my potential guilt on forums like this because they would have no REASON to.
We dont come here with our theories for the fun of it. Nobody would come here and state that Rhys Jones’ parents obviously arranged a ‘hit’ because nobody has been charged. And we dont do it because we have eyes and ears. And we do it here because of the very same.

749 Puzzled. Enjoyed your post.
Once upon a time there was room on here for opposing opinions along with a bit of irony and humour but lately I feel the depths have been plumbed!
Although maybe thats good and now the only way is up?

The quality of the photograph is not very clear, and it was taken from around 200 meters away.

I love Auntie Philly, she eclipses everyone when she stands in front of the sun.
September 25th, 2007 at 7:24 pm
I am convinced that Auntie Philly is really nursie from Blackadder II.

Have they been seen together in the same nursery? We should be told… in four and a half months time…

Have you all read Mr. McCann’s latest blog entry from Sept. 24?
http://www.findmadeleine.com/
“Gerry’s Blog/Diary
Day 144 - 24/09/2007
It is just over 2 weeks since we returned home from Portugal. The major news in that time is that we have not been charged with any offences regarding Madeleine’s disappearance. It is encouraging that the prosecutor has stated that all lines of enquiry remain open and we have not given up hope of finding Madeleine alive. It is good to see at least some attention re-focussing on finding Madeleine.
Sean and Amelie have settled back in at home very well but they do miss their older sister and we talk about her every day. For Kate and I it has been incredibly difficult to come home without Madeleine but particularly in such circumstances. Our family and friends have rallied round again as they have throughout this entire nightmare and they have also helped keep on top of the huge amount of mail from well wishers. At times our kitchen has looked like a sorting office! We would like to thank everyone for their support. It helps us keep sight of the fact that the great majority of people in this world are good.
Kate and I have been very busy with our legal advisers as we want to be eliminated from the inquiry as soon as possible and start concentrating wholeheartedly again on the search for our daughter. We are very confident this will happen when all the facts are presented together. We are very grateful and thankful to have several businessmen who have pledged financial support to cover legal costs and we were delighted Clarence Mitchell agreed to help us as an official spokesman. It is scary and daunting to imagine how we could have managed to deal with these latter ‘developments’ without such offers of support and commitment. Clarence will try and minimise the impact of the huge media interest in Madeleine’s disappearance on us, as we try and return slowly towards as normal a life as is possible. Although we will NEVER give up on Madeleine, we have to find the right balance for Sean and Amelie so they too do not suffer unnecessarily.
In the meantime we will continue to cooperate fully with the Portuguese authorities. I will update the blog periodically especially if there is any major development.”

Amazing change in tone in this entry–looks like someone on Team McCann might have ghost written this for him, as it’s very much on point and related to the case and not about frivolous things, as we might expect, based on previous entries in his blog.
Is this another item to be checked off on their PR campaign: improve or eliminate Gerry’s Blog (as it’s been more of a hindrance than a help in the past, per the blogosphere).

Judge - to return the forum to what Anorak is above - media watching - the press bandwagon is about selling newspapers: it is not about either MM or KM - but it is the photos of beauty in adversity in the form of KM that sell papers.
Said it before and I will say it again - an ugly mum is not newsworthy - no matter how you spin it
September 25th, 2007 at 7:22 pm
Here’s one about a photograph of missing Maddy taken the end of August with Morracan adults, Interpol has the photograph.

Wot? Ugly? Auntie Philly gets a fair bit of exposure - but then she’s got more than a fair bit to expose…
September 25th, 2007 at 7:18 pm
690 - Stig. Thank you for such a detailed account of your position. As I said to Moderation yesterday, I fully respect other people’s opinions, even if they are opposite to mine. I especially respect yours because it is thought out and not just an emotional backlash.
I would also not dream of trying to convince you that your position is ‘wrong’ or mine is ‘right’. However, just allow me to say that I too, for very personal reasons, have a strong view based to the emotional response shown by the parents. My interpretation is radically different from yours, but that does not means mine is ‘right’ or yours is ‘wrong’. They are just different.
Now I hope we can respect each others views and still enjoy a bit of banter and debate with no feelings of a personal slight.

732 - for all the fat aunt philly jokes, things could be worse at the other extreme. Check out what aunt phil might look like as an anorexic and maybe you’d prefer to keep her plump as a granny smith apple:

742 - You’re still an idiot. The bandwagon as you put it isn’t about KM its about Madeleine.

Agreed M’lud - just making the point that emotions (or absent emotions) can be a result of more than one cause… Guilty as sin anyway you look at it…

I agree that, when something really traumatic happens, you mind only absorbs what it is able to absorb at any given moment, meaning that full comprehension of what has happened takes a considerable amount of time. As you say, it’s a survival mechanism.
But my experience was that, for the first few weeks, I was also blocked for any kind of normal activity. What I don’t know, though, is if I appeared to other people to be behaving normally.

jollie i can only assume you are not angelina jolie. since she would never have to experience grief if it was only apportioned to ugly fillies
September 25th, 2007 at 7:13 pm
If the mother was ugly the press bandwagon would never have started rolling and none of you would be sitting here pursing your lips.
it is as plain as pike what what - now I really am leaving

i have just read that hotlips refers to skeletor mccanns labia and not her facial lips. they used this Euphemism to describe her because of the rancid weeping sores surrounding her vagina opening

Mods and Admin,
really must you, I have just eaten, and could do without lurid details

Heres one for tomorrows papers.
Does anyone know if GM had a webcam with built in microphone with him. Would be the perfect way to keep in touch with hoax abductors without leaving a record of keystrokes on the computer.
September 25th, 2007 at 7:08 pm
736 NONE of the above.
It was a hoax abduction hence the fact that there is no need for emotion.

734 Judge Dread
Hear, hear! And I also resent Seymour Law’s implication that ‘beautiful’ women are less deserving of grief than their plainer counterparts.
September 25th, 2007 at 7:07 pm
734 et al.
Just finding out your child was abducted
Finding your child has accidentally died
Murdering your child
All three are pretty traumatic and will have an effect of the emotions. Problem is: which one was it really?
September 25th, 2007 at 7:03 pm
denmark has the sweetest strawberries in the world
September 25th, 2007 at 7:03 pm
726 - Seymour Law you are an idiot. How can you say:-
“It is so unfair that this grief has been visited upon her.”
It is grief of her own making. If she had been a responsible parent and stayed at home to protect her children she wouldn’t be experiencing any grief.
September 25th, 2007 at 7:03 pm
Oh Stevo give it a rest about the jogging on the beach! It didn’t happen. It was a couple of weeks later and anyone who jogs knows its a stress reliever.
You’re just nit picking again and that devalues your argument.
I’ve said before, something very traumatic happened to me many years ago and I never so much as blinked at the time. Its a blocking mechansim that helps us survive otherwise everyone who lost a child in any circunstances would head for the nearest tree with a rope.
