Madeleine McCann: A House Of Love, Find the Body & What Kate McCann Screamed
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE. ‘FIND BODY OR McCANNS WILL ESCAPE’ – Prosecutors ultimatum to Portuguese police.”
The case against Kate and Gerry McCanns is “hanging by a thread”.
A police sources says: “There is a determination within the force to bring this investigation to a satisfactory conclusion but there is a growing fear that without a body, that goal will be impossible.”
Pages 4 and 5: “Our reputation is tarnished forever” – Each day the McCanns prepare themselves for the “worst case scenario”. No, not that they will be wrongly convicted, rather they will learn of Madeleine’s death.
Clarence Mitchell says: “In the middle of this people forget this is still a family who are potentially facing bereavement but are still in that awful limbo position of not knowing what has happened to their daughter.” Thankfully Mr Mitchell is on hand to remind people of this every day.
“Doubts on the McCanns by a lie detector expert” – THE WORLD’S GREATEST NEWSPAPER asks John Ryan, of International Truth Verification Technologies Institute, to listen to Kate McCann’s voice. Says she: “However I think there is some sort of deception when I hear the lady speaking, either over the event or in avoiding showing her true feelings”.
DAILY MIRROR front page: “MADELEINE – find a body or there is no case.”
Page 5: “Gerry and Kate have often talked about the possibility of Madeleine being found dead. That would be the worst news but it would at least give them some..CLOSURE”. So says a “source close to the legal team”.
Antonio Cluny, President of the Public Prosecution Service, says: “Without the little girl’s body, everything is complicated… In the Maddy case, there is no confession and, according to what has been made public, the evidence gathered up until now keeps all leads open – from abduction to homicide or at least to a simple accident”.
DAILY MAIL front page: “EXCLUSIVE: Eyewitness reveals Maddie’s mother DID shout: ‘They’ve taken her’ after four-year-old vanished. WHAT KATE DID SCREAM.”
Nanny Charlotte Pennington is in Praia da Luz. She hears Kate McCann scream: “They’ve taken her, they’ve taken her!” The McCanns say Kate screamed “Madeleine’s gone”.
Sensation. Front-page news.
Page 4: “Nanny Pennington, who worked at the Ocean Club, is pictured. She’s wearing a brown beret and a pink coat. Her tights are black. Her legs are crossed.
“I was in the apartment less than five minutes after they found that Madeleine had gone. When we were coming out we saw Kate and she was screaming: ‘They’ve taken her, they’ve taken her’… It might not have been the first thing she said. But she definitely said it.”
So…
“She also repeated Madeleine’s name and said: ‘She’s gone, she’s gone.’”
Anyone hear anything else?
THE SUN page 24: “MADDIE LAW CHIEF: NO BODY, NO CASE.” Antonio Clunes says: “There have been cases in which it was possible to obtain a conviction without a victim – but there were confessions.”
But the McCanns are innocent, says a source. And they are not confessing. They are talking through their spokesperson.
DAILY STAR front page: “COPS CLOSE IN ON MADDIE. Final pieces of tragic jigsaw falling into place.”
Pages 4 and 5: “FIND THE BODY OR THEY WALK. Law bosses tell Portuguese cops to step up hunt.”
“TWINS’ HOUSE OF LOVE” – Clarence Mitchell says the McCanns have built a “house of love” for their family. Mr Mitchell says the McCanns are living “every parent’s worst nightmare times ten”. Mr Mitchell used to work for the tabloid press.
DAILY TELEGRAPH page 13: “Case against McCanns ‘rests on finding body’.”
Clarence Mitchell says: “They did not harm, let alone kill her.”
THE TIMES page 11: “No body, no conviction says McCann police.”
THE GUARDIAN & THE INDEPENDENT: No Madeleine news.

988 - krissie
Out of curiosity, why are you here reading these comments? Why not just wait until some definite news is announced and someone is pronounced guilty then, instead of sifting through posts from people who are SPECULATING about the case.
And tell me also, what will you and other McCann supporters do if and when they are determined to be responsible for the disappearance and/or death of Madeleine? Will you come back and apologize to all the people who suspected them? It’s a two-way street, don’t you see?

Returning, once again, to the Morocco photo (I’ve got a kind of obsession). My husband has provided a very simple explanation: the lady is a Moroccan who lives in Europe (and may be married to a European) visiting her family on holiday (note that she is carrying a large travel bag and wearing jeans). The boy is her son and the girl is her daughter. The two men are members of her family.

All I know is I don’t want to spend anymore time on this site. NO.
I get the feeling at this time I have followed this case to the end. Although I am more aware of MUCH so time well spent, most likely the only thing to expect is more of the same. In hindsight, I will realize the time spent has been very constructive. YES. Now I will have a full time job trying to explain all of this to the people who haven’t been observing carefully enough. Hopefully I will be successful in that respect.
My observation is there are enough people at Anorak to get the job done without me. YES. There is one regret and that is that the McCann PR can finally get people so sick of the case and the people that no one will care. Sadly, just as I have said all along, Madeleine is the victim. Hopfully some of you will get the job done because I never want to think about the McCanns again so I am out of here by choice.
Please tell Winky Dink I will read the book.

Could someone tell me when the ‘picture of Madelein in Marocco’ has been taken?
Thank you! And I mean the date not the hour.

Rambo put his red head band on…..oiled his muscles…sharpened his knife….crawled on his belly all the way to Portugal….only to find…
it is illegal for him to do his job in Portugal….
so he crawled back under the unturned stone.

983,
thanks for the link, I read about this abuse back in May. Most paedophile rings hope for high officials to be involved because closing them down becomes harder. Lets hope they get what they deserve. I can not believe it went on for 10 years, sickening.
September 25th, 2007 at 10:47 pm
971 sorry genevieve.. The posting numbers seem to go out if sequence by one.
nononethere, garth (ARSE) and the other McCanics have a problem with this door because it clearly proves that stories are being fabricated on the hoof to rebuff real issues in the McConn version of events.
It should of course be quite simple to find out if this door opens towards you or not.
September 25th, 2007 at 10:46 pm
Has anyone got the link to the newspaper article showing the front and back of the McCann’s apartment from outside?
Ta!

I agree with Jane, regardless of other factors, PJ needs cleaning up.
849 Wendy Nillson says: “Police may well have beaten Leonor up which is terrible. But we know for a fact they have not beaten KM up.”
Yes, and this may be infuriating to the PJ, that they can’t. The McCann’s high profile p-r has made it hard from day one to apply any tactics in range of the 48 hr interrogation and the beating doled out to Leonor. They just had to make do with 11 hrs plus 4 or 5 after a short mnight’s sleep.
During the noise over how the McCanns had now been named as “arguidos,” who in the daily press pointed out that Goncalo Amara, heading up the investigation, is himself “arguido” for his role in supervising extraction of confession from Leonor? The man should have been put on leave, paid or otherwise. not put in charge of another case. In effect they are handling the 2 cases in similar ways, by claiming that in absence of a body only a confession can solve it. Yet confession alone is never enough to solve a crime.
“They will never ever get anywhere near framing KM.” Agreed. Would we want them to? I have some sympathy with how McCanns flew the coop after their high-pressure grilling. Could be a sign of guilt, or could be they sensed they were about to be framed.
“We also know for a fact that the British police also frequently beat people up…”
Again, does anyone approve of this? Should the cops who do this be left on the job? Genuine breakthroughs depend on evidence. Even if police can get a confession of how a crime was done and where the body was disposed of, they still need to evidence to back that up. In the case of Leonor, after accusing her of chopping up and cooking her child and seeing to it that she was beaten, the confession they claim to have extracted from her *guaranteed* that the body would never be found.
That’s what they were seeking from Kate McCann, a confession to confirm the “unfindable” theory they had formulated - that the body had been taken out to sea and weighed down with rocks so as as never to be found.
And so far PJ has not shown that the McCanns had access to this alleged vessel.

My god, every day that I come here and read the Anorak forums, you people get freakier and more hateful and more stupid. I simply can’t believe it. WHAT are you going to have to say for yourselves when Madeleine comes home and you’ve spent the past several months publicly and nastily skewering these poor people. What no one seems to understand is that approximately 9/10ths of EVERYTHING YOU HAVE READ about this case is BULLSHIT. What part of that don’t you get? Each of you seems to zero in on random tidbits of information, many of which are directly contradicted by officials or logic, and you take these tidbits of information and build a murder case of of them. Why are you trying to solve a missing persons case based on FALSE INFORMATION? You are all insane and stupid!!

I have just been watching the news here in Spain. A Spanish couple holidaying in Morocco have taken photographs of a little girl they believe could be Madeleine. Has anyone else seen this footage? and if so what do you think?
I’ve tried to see something in this respect in internet but haven’t found it.
I’m less than useless at posting links, anyway
I think the child photographed would be younger than Madeleine, she seems quite tiny, but I can see why this couple thought it could be her. The photograph was taken on the 30th of August in the proximity of a town named Ziwat a small place between Chaouen and Tetuan in northern Morocco and has been handed over to Spanish authorities and Interpol are scrutinizing the photo. A person in some local costume is carrying the child on their back and is accompanied by two women and a boy. To tell the truth the little girl sticks out like a sore thumb.
However here in Spain a lot of gypsy families have blond children and one questions their parentage or race.
What do others who’ve seen the photos think??

Going on the sniffer dogs - these are British police dogs we are talking about here - so you cannot say the Portuguese police set this up - the scent of corpse has been found on the McCanns …their car…their toy and now one of their friends clothes in Britain.
The corpse trail led to the Church….Murats house was the opposite direction…he would have either taken her to his own house or far far away…that has been ruled out.
We have no evidence but I have seen for my own eyes the amazing scenting abilities of dogs - my mothers dog bit at her leg and I told her to check it out - a doctor found cancer in time!
My own dog knows when I am going to get psoriasis on my hand before I do and licks me as if trying to heal me. He only ever licks me on the hand at this time.
Police are reluctant to use psychics but often check out things they say on the quiet - however sniffer dogs are used and respected. Why they are not admissable in court i do not know - they use more than just scenting - they can tell what people are like by their bodylanguage - and I am also 100 per cent certain they can smell the difference between a rotting chicken carcass….a dirty nappy… and a corpse - they are trained to know the difference.
I have ordinary sense of smell and I can tell you that dirty nappies dont smell half as bad as rotting chicken….but a corpse makes people puke!!!!!!!

Portugal braced as child prostitution ring trial opens
Giles Tremlett and agencies in Lisbon
Friday November 26, 2004
The Guardian
Portugal’s highest-profile trial for years began at a Lisbon court yesterday with a leading television presenter, a former ambassador and five others accused of involvement in a child prostitution ring which allegedly abused orphanage children over a period of 20 years.
Carlos Cruz, 62, the chat show host known as Mr Television, arrived at the court looking relaxed as his lawyer warned about the failings of Portugal’s judicial system.
“Normally trials produce justice in Portugal,” Ricardo Sá Fernandes, told the state news agency, Lusa. “But sometimes they do not.”
Mr Cruz faced six charges of sexually abusing or having sex with underage boys from the 224-year-old Casa Pia network of orphanages and schools which looks after 4,500 children.
“I want, and all Portuguese want, that the truth be found in a rapid manner. I’ve never lied,” Mr Cruz said.
Jorge Ritto, 69, a former Portuguese ambassador, faced nine charges of sexually abusing children and two of procuring.
Among the defendants is Manuel Abrantes, a former deputy director at Casa Pia, who faces 51 charges of abuse and child prostitution crimes.
Carlos Silvino, a Casa Pia driver, was allegedly at the centre of the ring, hiring out boys under 14 to people from the social and showbusiness elite.
Mr Silvino, accused of 669 acts of abuse, arrived at court with an armed escort and wearing a bulletproof vest as local media reported death threats against him.
Psychiatrists said yesterday that the 32 alleged victims who would give evidence, some still under 16 years, would be under extreme pressure.
Counsellors appointed by the authorities said they had uncovered 130 cases of abuse at the main Casa Pia home in Lisbon.
The judge said yesterday the case may be transferred to a courthouse better able to deal with a trial with a 13,000-page case file that would last several months and involve about 800 witness.
Paulo Pedroso, a former government minister, against whom charges were dropped after he had spent four months on remand, was not in court. He has suggested he may sue those who accused him while his Socialist party has claimed the charges against him were politically motivated.
The case has shocked Portugal, making some people aware of paedophilia for the first time and throwing into question the way governments have run orphanages.
But its shockwaves have gone further. The police were first informed of abuse at Casa Pia in 1982, while a series of high-profile politicians, including Antonio Ramalho Eanes, a former president, have known about the allegations for 20 years, according to Teresa Costa Macedo, a former secretary of state for families.
Leaks from the investigation have put the judiciary, police and journalists under the microscope.
The attorney-general was forced to state publicly earlier this year that the president, Jorge Sampaio, was not being investigated after the press discovered that an anonymous letter naming him had been included in the evidence. Mr Sampaio made a national television address last year, calling the affair a national disgrace and urging people to trust the legal system.
Joao Correia, vice-president of the bar association, said media coverage and breaches of judicial secrecy had damaged public confidence.
Each conviction for an act of child sex abuse carries a jail term of up to eight years. But the maximum prison term in Portugal is 25 years.

974,
http://www.bild.t-online.de/BTO/news/2007/09/21/fall-madeleine/imagemap/imagemap,geo=2533040.html
It is so accurate that it came from a German site and an unamed Warner staff said so. This IS the proof the PJ need to make their case stick. What a joke.

975 - what exactly have I said they are guilty of?
September 25th, 2007 at 10:39 pm
958 nononethere
Even if the floor plan is a mock-up and you feel you cannot depend on its accuracy, how do explain the statement of the employee at Mark Warner’s that said the door opens outward?
956 Ade, can you give me the post number of Tony’s you refer to? I cannot find anything yet online that mentions the Mark Warner rep’s statement related to the door/apt. layout.
September 25th, 2007 at 10:39 pm
959 nononethere
Sorry but you cannot wriggle out of this one. The Mark Warner rep has also confirmed that this door opens towards you. This cock up by the PR spinwriter could be an important nail in the McConn machine’s case.
As I wrote above, it proves that stories are made up to suit the situation and get the McCons pout of their current headache.
of course if gerrkins had actually been inside his children’s bedroom he would have known that the door opened towards him. This confirms my suspicion that he didn’t spend a lot of time with his kids (assuming he was the father, of course) anyway except when there were cameras around. This could explain why katiepoo complained that he left it all to her.
September 25th, 2007 at 10:38 pm
961 - Thank you Patricia, shall I stand up and curtsey?!!
Just kidding…I hear ya! Glad you agree with my synopsis. I think it’s “ironic”.
Reminds me of the old saying “the cobblers kids go without any shoes”
In this case, “the Doctors kids go without any health care or supervision”.
Yet, in this case, the Doctors, unlike the Cobblers, take quite good care of themselves.
September 25th, 2007 at 10:38 pm
965 - Powerful and thought provoking brenda, but misleading and incorrect.
People donated to help to try and find Madeleine. They still do. Whatever we feel able the neglect her parents demonstrated, I doubt anyone felt their donations were supporting or condoning this neglectful act.

967 - and I suppose the Mark Warner representative was a liar. Oh really!
September 25th, 2007 at 10:33 pm
I’ve been following this case very closely like a lot of you -now getting that sickening feeling that justice may not be done. I’ve really tried so hard to be open minded (in the early days I nearly cried for the parents), but from everything we have learned so far (not least here) the rational thinking person must conclude there is something seriously amiss.
I am sure most British hacks (intelligent and cynical as they are) realise this - it must be the lack of final conclusive evidence (I don’t see why it has to be a body) which is making the editors hold them back. Think of the sales otherwise!
Unless the establishment really are leaning majorly on the mainstream media…
PS I would be delighted to be proved wrong, but I won’t, will I…?
