Madeleine McCann: Blonde Child Seen In Morocco
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
DAILY MAIL front page: “Could this be Maddie?”
Readers see a picture of a child being carried on a woman’s back - “The intriguing picture being probed by Interpol.”
Pages 10 and 11: “Could this really be Maddie?”
This is the picture of a girl “in the clutches of a group of Moroccans”. The picture was taken four weeks ago near Tangiers by Spaniard Clara Torres.
DAILY MIRROR front page: “MADDY IN MOROCCO?”
Readers see the same picture. The Full “astonishing story” is on pages 4 and 5.
Pages 4 and 5: “COULD IT BE?” Less the full story than another question.
“GERRY: I KNOW WE WILL BE CLEARED” – Gerry McCann says he and his wife “wanted to be eliminated from the enquiry as quickly as possible”. Some news.
THE SUN front page: “MOROCCO PHOTO SENSATION. IS THIS MADDIE?”
The picture is “sensational”. It has been described as “convincing”, but by whom is not said.
Pages 4 and 5: “GERRY & KATE: IT COULD BE HER – MADDIE PARENTS HOPE AT SIGHTING SENSATION.”
Clara Torres is talking on Spanish radio. She looks at the photo. Says she: “It sent shivers down my spine.”
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “NOW A ‘PHOTO’ OF MADELEINE IN MOROCCO.”
‘Photo’ is placed in quotes lest readers mistake the picture for a ‘SNAP’ or a ‘SHOT’.
Spanish Government official Jose Herrero Arcas says: “The National Police received a photograph by email taken by a young Spanish couple who believe it shows Madeleine McCann. The quality of the photograph is not very clear and it was taken from around 200 metres away. However, the National Police are taking the claim seriously enough to have sent it on to their colleagues at Interpol. I cannot give any more information than that.”
DAILY STAR front page: “MADDIE – AMAZING PHOTO IN MOROCCO.”
Pages 4 and 5: “MADDIE SEEN IN MOROCCO – Bombshell new photo is probed by Interpol.”
THE TIMES front page: “Police start investigation into ‘picture in Morocco of Madeleine McCann’.”
Page 5: “New photograph shows child like Madeleine on African woman’s back.”
A source close to the McCanns tells one and all: “The McCanns are not going to get their hopes up until the photograph has been sent for forensic examination.” And, dare it be said, a DNA test.
DAILY TELEGRAPH front page: “Is this Madeleine in Morocco?” The search for the missing child has taken a “dramatic turn”.
Page 9: “Gerry McCann is “confident” he and his wife will be cleared. A source tells us: “It is very unlikely that British police would question the McCanns on behalf of the Portuguese now.”
Robert Murat responds to claims by nanny Charlotte Pennington that on the night of Madeleine’s disappearance he was by the McCann family apartment: “I certainly was not there that night. At no point was I there.”

I just looked at the picture in the Mail. There is a fair boy in it and a woman with a big hat who looks pretty fair. As many people have said on this site, all little blonde girls of 4 look similar. This looks like a fair group of people going for a walk!

apart from instincts for north africans to have taken her from her mother
which by way of her other instincts is hardly believable!
Whats your take on that anyway?
September 26th, 2007 at 11:23 am
215 - What proof have you that the hunt for Madeleine has suffered. Are you privy to the police investigation?
You accuse people of speculating when you do exactly the same thing. How do you know the McCanns are not involved. That is no more certain than they are involved.

leaving no stone unturned
we are going through all possibilities for maddies fate
by looking at what we are told
the parents contradictry crap swings us to be biased and of course they are the only suspects

SSS ???? what has stubbing cigarettes out on children and beating them with straps got to do with this case??? You are gone off on some mad tangent there girl!
The parents should NOT have left their children alone - I have repeated this ad nauseum. I believe they should be investigated for this matter alone. But to push public opinion into directing this case into a murder trial when it is clear to the dogs on the street (forgive pun) that they didnt do it and that the hunt for Madeleine has suffered than I must return the compliment that if this is your modus of thinking you are indeed naieve. There is no panic to prosecute the parents the file has a long way to go before it is closed too late to bring prosecutions. But there is an immediate overdue emergency to hunt for this child with every spare ounce of resources there is, as it would be for any child.

A PANDEMONIUM of parrots.

All of this wittering about an inconclusive photograph - it takes us no where at all. Keep focused people, there is a crime to be solved.
September 26th, 2007 at 11:15 am
there are a lot of blond moroccans. The original population of the Canary Islands was blond, I learned.
September 26th, 2007 at 11:15 am
Once again I applause the McCann PR Team for another distraction to stop searches for a dead body.
If Maddie is alive I will not only eat my hat but also everyone elses hat in this forum !
September 26th, 2007 at 11:15 am
202 - here here - just as i said in # 182 - NONE of this would be happening if the children were not left alone - and noeone can argue that point!

(109) Pixie
When I showed my husband the photo last night, his first reaction was that the lady in jeans, the boy and the girl were Moroccans living in Europe who were visiting their family (the other people in the photo). This woman could be married to a European, which is why the girl appears to be blond.

why should we have any caring feelings for them?
its not our duty?
it was their to care for maddy

I do not think that a poor family like the one in the picture, would not have the facilities to kidnap Madeleine themselves.
If it is a wealthier kiddnapper I would have thought the last thing they would want is Madeleine on the move in the open, especially walking which can take hours.
Even if a wealthier kidnapper placed her with a rural family in a remote area, if they had to move her it would have been in a car (unless the family is running away from the kidnappers to protect Madeleine).
This was the end of August so the risk discovery if she was transported on the open road would have been very high.
Still, a fair skinned child with fair hair is worth investigating even though the child walking at the side looks fairly fair skinned although she has dark hair.
September 26th, 2007 at 11:11 am
Just noticed on a 28″ TV enlargement of the pic that the child is wearing pink over her left shoulder.

~182 Cassie I agree with you that they shouldnt have left her alone. But it more important to focus on Madeleine and finding her. As much as anyone despises the parents for doing so it does not justify calling for the police to spend time on them when ALL energies should be focussed on finding Madeleine. There is plenty of time to prosecute the parents later when they find her. But the press are being pushed to speculate by lynch mobs and this is turn affects police decisions. The PJ have said this. They said that when you hear something enough times you begin to think it also.
This is why I say to those SHAME SHAME SHAME ON YOU. YOU HAVE ADDED TO MADELEINES MISERY IN A DELIBERATE CALCULATED AND MALICIOUS WAY
The parents can be brought to book anytime but for now the focus HAS TO HAS TO HAS TO remain on a finding Madeleine and keeping this case open as a missing persons file and not a murder hunt. The results of this type of smear campaigning by sick bastards who mock others because their own lives are so sadly lacking are every bit as culpable as the parents in Madeleines misery today.
September 26th, 2007 at 11:10 am
I have also noticed that some children with blonde hair as children can go darker to almost black hair when older - so this is really only going on the hair colour - not the mark in the eye which would be something worth investigating and taking seriously!!!
You see what you want to see!

Jon, I would like to ask you how old you are? My reason for this is that you seem extraordinarily naive about parents and their children. I don’t think you realise how many children in the UK ALONE are ABUSED DAILY BY THEIR PARENTS. FOR KICKS, OR BECAUSE THEY DON’T DO SOMETHING THE WAY THE PARENTS THINK THEY SHOULD, OR BECAUSE THEY DON’T EAT THEIR MEAL QUICKLY ENOUGH, OR THEY BREATHE TOO LOUDLY.
Have you ever had a cigarette stubbed out on you because your breathing too loudly? Or ever been beaten with a leather strap because it took you more than 5 minutes to eat your dinner? Or been punched repeatedly because you got out of bed to go to the toilet?
If I told you that a parent who was high up in the civil service did that to a child would you believe me?
If it is “insidious” and “disgusting” to look at the facts and analyze them and use them to hypothesise about what may have happened, then let us all be insidious and disgusting! What I KNOW is this:
IF MADELEINE HAD NOT BEEN LEFT ON HER OWN THAT NIGHT, SHE WOULD BE IN ROTHLEY WITH HER PARENTS AND HER SIBLINGS.
The other thing I know is this:
IT IS THE DUTY OF EVERY ADULT TO PROTECT THE VULNERABLE, THE WEAK, THE INFIRM AND THE YOUNG.
Do you think that your revered Mr and Mrs Mccann did their duty?

all i have to say is i’m disgusted with the majority of these postings. i cannot believe people can be so flippant about a missing child! i only hope that none of you ever have a tragedy in your lives and are blamed for it. i know that some people on here have hearts (jon) so this is not aimed at everyone.
SUSANNA beautyand justice you say? not in your heart definately not

My neighbours are berber Moroccans and they have a very blonde, blue-eyed girl. This girl on the picture is most probably a relative.
September 26th, 2007 at 11:09 am
178, But, amazingly, they still haven’t found Genette’s body!!
I understand that bodies lost at sea are often never recovered (an uncle of mine was lost off a yacht and his body was never found).
But, Genette went missing in Devon, and I am surprised that in a densely populated country like the UK, no clue to the body has been found over the last 25 years.
Of course, this assumes Genette is not alive and well and living in Morocco — she’d be the right age for the mother in the picture.

*184* The gutter british press………shurely shome mishtake there insulting our noble seekers of truth and justice!
September 26th, 2007 at 11:08 am
I had bright blonde hair as a child and all my sisters and parents have black hair - i did look like I didn’t belong to them but have a birth certificate and photos of the birth to prove otherwise…lol
I notice that Spanish families have blonde haired children yet they are darker in skin tone to us - look at the Spanish princess - she is about 3 and blonde - then again don’t look - there are some people in here that may think she’s Maddie and start a war with Spain….lol
What you are all saying is that Morocons cannot have blonde children - is there any evidence to back this claim up since you do not know who the father is?

My brother is a brunette , brown eyes, and his wife is Egiptian (dark skin , black hair, dark eyes), their daughter is a blue eyed blond. She was 4 in June. Maybe, she is Madeleine then? Shall I give “the team” a call; I want to be on the telly too.
September 26th, 2007 at 11:01 am
Funny that posting about Genette Tate case.
Police spent 29 years looking for a child and never found the body?
And they re-interviewed the same suspect 3 times… 1996, 1998 and 2005.
What was it that we were saying about PJ being slow????
September 26th, 2007 at 10:59 am
168 poor little Maddie is suffering and so is the investigation when the focus is on the parent like so. I have regularly checked in on this site but most of the time I couldnt be bothered to post the conversations were so insidious and disgusting I suppose other peoples misery turns this type of person on.
September 26th, 2007 at 10:58 am
Anyway, regarding the photo, it gives a glimmer of hope I suppose. With two reported sightings of Madeleine before in Morocco (and in particular the one where the little girl asks when she will see her mummy) it does start to make you wonder…….’could it be’
It does surprise me however that the picture has been shown to the public at this stage. Surely a thorough investigation has been carried out prior?
