‘Photo’ is placed in quotes lest readers mistake the picture for a ‘SNAP’ or a ‘SHOT’.
Spanish Government official Jose Herrero Arcas says: “The National Police received a photograph by email taken by a young Spanish couple who believe it shows Madeleine McCann. The quality of the photograph is not very clear and it was taken from around 200 metres away. However, the National Police are taking the claim seriously enough to have sent it on to their colleagues at Interpol. I cannot give any more information than that.”

Page 9: “Gerry McCann is “confident” he and his wife will be cleared. A source tells us: “It is very unlikely that British police would question the McCanns on behalf of the Portuguese now.”
Robert Murat responds to claims by nanny Charlotte Pennington that on the night of Madeleine’s disappearance he was by the McCann family apartment: “I certainly was not there that night. At no point was I there.”

I asked about 3 weeks ago for the name calling and swearing to stop, and to be fair, it took a while but the majority of it DID stop, but as more new posters have come on, the regulars aren’t so prominent anymore.

There has been a lot of talk this morning about division (and derision) between pro and anti McCann.
Anorak itself is on the fence in a neutral position, but firmly believes in Justice.
In recent weeks speculation has grown and gossip also about the whereabouts of Madeleine, and the unknown events/persons that led to her disappearance. This has not been balanced by sound knowledge, how could it, no one knows.
Slowly over the past few days there has been a return of posters who believe that Madeleine was abducted for kidnap or paedophile purposes, this is also conjecture and gossip.
There are people who support the parents, and there are people who condemn the parents for leaving the children alone - each has a right to their opinion in this.
There is also the fact that the parents are suspects, this is a normal course of events , until it is proved they are innocent. Everyone really hopes they are innocent.
Because people differ in opinion , it doesn’t make them perverts or stupid, so could posters conduct a little maturity please.

What does this picture tell us (assuming it’s Madeleine)?
Theory 1 Madeleine was kidnapped by a paedophile ring? This lot hardly look like they’d be part of any child-abuse organisation.
Theory 2 She’s been taken for sale to another family? Then, we’re back to the question about why not take one of the twins? They’d presumably be more valuable assets.
Theory 3 She’s been taken (for sale or paedo ring) but with all the publicity they’ve abandoned her and she was found by some nomad tribe that does not have television or radio. It doesn’t make sense. There are Madeleine posters all over the place, and surely if the nomads were not aware that MAdeleine was wanted they’d have been told by someone else on the street. THe picture was taken almost a month ago.

The woman who took photo ..I was just listening to news on BBC radio.. she took it 26 days ago and only noticed when downloading to her PC it may be Madeline.She did not report to police in Portugal to be told Madeline is dead. She got hold of press and sent photo to UK.

Moderation has posted a dismissal of this missing priest rumour. He is in Portugal and is in direct contact with people in La Praia. Those contacts have told him that both churches are functioning and are equipped with their respective priest. He is still there, never was missing.

To 17PDR…… I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again .I can’t for the life of me understand why Gerry asked for a priest ONE HOUR after Maddy disappeared. There must have been so much chaos and confusion with people dashing around searching for Maddy and all Gerry could think of was asking for a priest ! Yes I realise they are deeply religious and would want to speak to a priest but not during this first hour!

There is a lot of speculation about today’s new development. It would be nice to think that this is the positive break through we’ve all been hoping for but I have my doubts that the photograph really shows Madeleine. I am pleased to see that Kate and Gerry are treating this latest sighting with caution in light of disappointment with other so called past sightings.
Having seen the report about the person who took this photo, I would question the motive for the release of this photograph now. The lady who took the photo claims that when she took the photo they were struck by the little girl, who was very blonde and she also said the truth is we said the name of the girl, but we couldn’t believe it could be her, it was just impossible that it was her. This can only mean that when she took the photo she had a clear conscience that in fact it could be Madeleine. Then if there was any possibility it was her why did she not report it immediately why did she wait 3 weeks. Any possibility that it could be Madeleine should have been followed up. That lady in Belgium wasted no time and she was wrong. There is absolutely no sense to it all, it just doesn’t add up. It seems as often is the case in matters like this people want to make them self more famous just for celebrity.
It is so unfair on parents of missing children to have their hopes raised and dashed by selfish people. Had this photograph been genuine at least it would prove that Kate and Gerry didn’t kill Madeleine but like most false dawns we’ll just have to accept that this photograph is not Madeleine, unless the experts prove otherwise

I read in http://www.elmundo.es that the spanish girl called local police in Spain on Monday, after hearing about sightings of Madeleine in Morocco. Officers passed on the photograph to Interpol. There was nothing about police not wanting to know about the picture or saying that Madeleine was dead. All that sounds like tabloid rubbish.
Now, what has not been explained yet, is how this picture ended up in all the newspapers, who sent it to the newspapers and who is benefiting from this publication. Let me think:
- Madeleine McCann: Not benefiting - if this is Madeleine, the criminal gang is now surely on the run and may have even got rid of her.
- The PJ: Not benefiting - new doubts cast over the theory that Madeleine is dead
- The McCanns : Benefiting - strenght added to the claims that they are innocent. If it turns out not to be Madeleine “no problema” for them.
- Spanish girl : Clearly benefiting from selling the picture to all newspapers in the world
- British tabloids : Clearly Benefiting - increased sales!
Has anyone considered how harmful the release of this publication could be if MAdeleine is indeed alive and held in Morocco by this lot in the picture? Who’s responsible???
