Madeleine McCann: Blonde Child Seen In Morocco
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
DAILY MAIL front page: “Could this be Maddie?”
Readers see a picture of a child being carried on a woman’s back - “The intriguing picture being probed by Interpol.”
Pages 10 and 11: “Could this really be Maddie?”
This is the picture of a girl “in the clutches of a group of Moroccans”. The picture was taken four weeks ago near Tangiers by Spaniard Clara Torres.
DAILY MIRROR front page: “MADDY IN MOROCCO?”
Readers see the same picture. The Full “astonishing story” is on pages 4 and 5.
Pages 4 and 5: “COULD IT BE?” Less the full story than another question.
“GERRY: I KNOW WE WILL BE CLEARED” – Gerry McCann says he and his wife “wanted to be eliminated from the enquiry as quickly as possible”. Some news.
THE SUN front page: “MOROCCO PHOTO SENSATION. IS THIS MADDIE?”
The picture is “sensational”. It has been described as “convincing”, but by whom is not said.
Pages 4 and 5: “GERRY & KATE: IT COULD BE HER – MADDIE PARENTS HOPE AT SIGHTING SENSATION.”
Clara Torres is talking on Spanish radio. She looks at the photo. Says she: “It sent shivers down my spine.”
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “NOW A ‘PHOTO’ OF MADELEINE IN MOROCCO.”
‘Photo’ is placed in quotes lest readers mistake the picture for a ‘SNAP’ or a ‘SHOT’.
Spanish Government official Jose Herrero Arcas says: “The National Police received a photograph by email taken by a young Spanish couple who believe it shows Madeleine McCann. The quality of the photograph is not very clear and it was taken from around 200 metres away. However, the National Police are taking the claim seriously enough to have sent it on to their colleagues at Interpol. I cannot give any more information than that.”
DAILY STAR front page: “MADDIE – AMAZING PHOTO IN MOROCCO.”
Pages 4 and 5: “MADDIE SEEN IN MOROCCO – Bombshell new photo is probed by Interpol.”
THE TIMES front page: “Police start investigation into ‘picture in Morocco of Madeleine McCann’.”
Page 5: “New photograph shows child like Madeleine on African woman’s back.”
A source close to the McCanns tells one and all: “The McCanns are not going to get their hopes up until the photograph has been sent for forensic examination.” And, dare it be said, a DNA test.
DAILY TELEGRAPH front page: “Is this Madeleine in Morocco?” The search for the missing child has taken a “dramatic turn”.
Page 9: “Gerry McCann is “confident” he and his wife will be cleared. A source tells us: “It is very unlikely that British police would question the McCanns on behalf of the Portuguese now.”
Robert Murat responds to claims by nanny Charlotte Pennington that on the night of Madeleine’s disappearance he was by the McCann family apartment: “I certainly was not there that night. At no point was I there.”
THE GUARDIAN & THE INDEPENDENT no Maddy news today.

#427 and when they reported it they were told by police that it was impossible she was dead! Apparently the parents have been accused of killing her.
So there is no point in searching anymore.
September 26th, 2007 at 3:07 pm
427-
its a digital camera so its quite easy to look over photos there and then
September 26th, 2007 at 3:06 pm
On a completely different note, someone published this in the Daily Mirror forum…..
Not saying anything other that “food for thought”….
Posted: Tue Sep 18, 2007 5:08 pm Post subject:
——————————————————————————–
Note….this is not an espousal of the list and its contents….I think it was generally made for the purpose of suggested further study…some have been mentioned on here before.
GORDON BROWN & GERRY McCANN
-have had nice telephone chats together.
GORDON, GERRY, & CLARENCE MITCHELL
-Clarence Mitchell is the Head of Media Monitoring for the govt.
-He is also personal friend of Gerry, and has been representing Gerry
(on behalf of govt or himself? ) from the very beginning.
GORDON BROWN, ANDREW BROWN
-Andrew is P.M.s brother and is involved with EDF Energy which is
Europe’s largest nuclear energy producer. Andrew Brown is the media director for EDF energy, who are lobbying to build nuclear power stations in Britain.
Gordon Brown wants to restart the nuclear power plant building programme in Britain.
COMARE, ANDREW BROWN, COMARE DIRECTOR, GERRY McCANN
-Gerry McCann is a member of a government quango called COMARE (Committee on Medical Aspects of Radiation in the Environment) which has repeatedly come out in opposition to campaigners who claim that childhood cancers are more prevalent around nuclear power stations
COMARE’s director happens to be a cardiologist based at the very hospital where Gerry and Kate first met, the Glasgow Western Infirmary. If COMARE’s contacts incorporate individuals in the broader nuclear industry, these might include Andrew Brown: Head of Media for Europe’s largest producer of nuclear electricity… and brother of Prime Minister Gordon.
Question: since when is a cardiologist have the experience to
comment on radiation?
Possible Answer: Training of Cardiologists in Radiation Protection
BELL POTTINGER, GERRY, GORDON BROWN, NUCLEAR POWER INDUSTRY
“Bell Pottinger represent both the McCanns and the Portuguese holiday village they were staying in. Bell Pottinger also provide PR for the nuclear power industry, have close connections with New Labour (Tony Blair gave Tim bell his peerage), have helped sell New labours unique vision of democracy in Iraq and and have been heavily involved with several of New labours disastrous IT schemes ”
SARAH BROWN, JULIA HOBSBAWN, SKY NEWS, GENERAL MEDICAL COUNCIL
-Julia Hobsbawm was a partner in Hobsbawm Macaulay Communications with Sarah Macaulay, now known as Sarah Brown, the wife of British Prime Minister, Gordon Brown.
Julia Hobsbawm is now the founder and chief executive of media analysis and networking company Editorial Intelligence
http: //editorialintelligence.com
And this is where it gets very interesting.
Julia Hobsbawm’s new company ‘Editorial Intelligence’ specialises in analysing and exploiting comment and opinion in both print and online media. In simple terms, ‘Editorial Intelligence’ helps realise the potential of controlling the shape and fabric of public opinion and (d)ebate by controlling what is published in comment areas, forum areas, letters pages and message boards. They have even coined a new word for the online/published briTish public; they call it the ‘Commentariat’ (a play upon the word ‘Proletariat’ - orginally coined to describe the lower or working classes).
Julia Hobsbawm’s ‘Editorial Intelligence’ describes itself on its website:
“Editorial Intelligence opens a door to a vital and growing world of print and online comment and opinion. What the ‘Commentariat’ says affects and influences the direction of public opinion and policy alike and with it, corporate reputation …
SKY NEWS and the GMC (General Medical Council) are clients of Editorial
Analysis. Please clarify and confirm?
JULIA HOBSBAWN, GERRY, JEWISH COMMUNITY CENTRE, PHILIP GREEN
(Julia Hobsbawm is also a trustee of the Jewish Community Centre for London - supported by none other than Sir Philip Green - loaner of jet and reward provider to the McCanns)
T APAS 7 , UNNAMED PERSON
-When the ‘abduction theory” first spun its webs, there was mention of the Tapas 7, and one party who could not be named.
UNAMED PERSON, PETER McCann, MALTA, GOZO
-Could the unamed person be Peter McCann who is supposed to
be an Uncle and who has a house in Gozo, Malta.
-There was also mention of sighting in Malta, in amongst Morocco, Spain etc.
P ETER McCANN, CASTLE CRAIG
-Castle Craig is an exclusive private hospital (but gets NHS funding) in
Scotland and all the directors are as follows:
http: //www.castlecraig.co.uk/
See about Us then Key Staff
Castle Craig Hospital
Directors
Peter McCann MA, ICADC Chairman
Dr Margaret Ann McCann, MB Bch BAO Medical Director
Dr. Michael G. McCann , MD , MA , DIH, MFOM Director
John L McCann BA ACIS Financial Director/Administrator
Castle Craig Hospital is located in 50 acres of grounds in the Scottish Borders. It is a residential hospital for the inpatient treatment of alcoholism and drug addiction. The hospital is registered with the relevant statutory body, namely the Scottish Care Commission. It is a major contractor to the National Health Service and is recognised by the major medical insurers in the U.K. Many insurance companies from other countries fund the treatment at Castle Craig. The hospital is a Preferred Provider to the U.S. Government under the Tricare programme and it is also recognised by the Dutch insurance companies.
There is mention of a holiday home in Gozo, Malta. Is this the same
uncle?
Peter and Dr. Margaret Ann McCann says”
We have worked together in the field of alcoholism and drug addiction since the early 80s. We founded, in the first instance, Clouds House in 1983 and ran it for five years before moving to Scotland and opening up Castle Craig which we have been running ever since.
Both myself and Margaret Ann have presented at many conferences, written papers and belong to a number of professional organisations. In particular Margaret Ann served on the Executive of the Medical Council on Alcohol and I have just been elected a Board Member of the International Council of Alcohol and Addictions. I was also the Founder of the European Association for Treatment of Addiction (EATA).
In our personal life we have been blessed with four delightful children, now aged from 18 to 24. Victoria is a graduate of Newcastle and Stirling Universities and has obtained an MSc in P.R. from the latter. Dominic is final year History at Edinburgh University. Felicity is in her second year at Bristol University Medical School and Peter is awaiting a place in Medical School. We all share an interest in sailing and are fortunate in having a lovely house in Gozo which was paid for many years ago with a small inheritance. We continue to have family holidays together. We also allow staff at Castle Craig and close friends to use the house and it has been a charitable auction prize on several occasions.
Castle Craig has an extended contracts with the US Defence Department treating military personnel for addictions.
Des Browne (our own Defence Sectretary - and another Scot) has been under increasing pressure to deal with our own force’s drink and drug problems (in light of the scandal brought about by the HMS Cornwall affair in April).
http: //scotlandonsunday.scotsm…..=753452006/
It is entirely likely that given Castle Craig’s experience in treating US military personnel they have sough Peter McCann’s advice on treating our own military personnel.
Perhaps Caslte Craig even treated servicemen on board the HMS Cornwall, who knows.
That would certainly explain why they slipped into Iranian territory.
Here is something that Peter McCann wrote last year. It might lend weight to rumours about cabinet members and family members having used Castle Craig. See what you think:
“We also read today, about the inappropriate way that Liberal Democrats covered up on their former leader’s alcoholism. This is a typical response we see throughout industry and institutions when members of organisations try to cover up for their sick colleagues. It is quite disgraceful that politicians weld so much power while addicted and when their judgment must be warped. This applies to all political parties. Addiction must be confronted at all times and “tough love” applies to politicians just as much as to doctors, lawyers and family members. ”
http: //blogg.castlecraig.co.uk…..89228.html/
PETER McCANN, CASTLE CRAIG, HOLLAND, GERRY
-Castle Craig has a branch in Holland. Gerry worked in Holland.
GERRY, JILL RENWICK, JOHN BROWN, GORDON BROWN
-Jill Renwick is a friend of Gerry, and she lives down the road or same
strees as John Brown, who is Gordon Brown’s brother.
-maybe nothing here, and just poor John Brown caught in it all.
SO WE HAVE MEDIA, POLITICS, DRUG REHAB, NUCLEAR…anyone join the dots and clarify all of this which is a combination of internet sleuthing?
September 26th, 2007 at 3:06 pm
The exact same photo was posted Sept. 9 on this web-site.
September 26th, 2007 at 3:06 pm
418 - Ben. Sorry can’t resist!!!
‘the pros have said it as not been tampered with-so how can we take you seriously’….which pros are these? Pro-McCanns or professionals.
No no I don’t want a reply. I am just having a little tease.
September 26th, 2007 at 3:04 pm
410,
The times also reports it similar to the Express,
“Clara Torres, a tourist from Albacete, Spain, who took the picture published last night, said that she had thought immediately of the missing toddler. She told the Spanish radio station COPE last night: “As soon as I took the photo we were struck by the little girl, who was very blonde. Then yesterday [Monday] we heard on the news that there were various people who said they had seen Madeleine in Morocco.”
NOTE: AS SOON AS SHE TOOK THE PHOTO WE WERE STRUCK BY THE LITTLE GIRL.
September 26th, 2007 at 3:03 pm
#415 moment of truth
… delay in closing boarders
… preservation (or not) of crime scene.
… knee jerk reation to media frenzy
… failure to carry out thorough area search
… failure to produce identifit of suspect seen by JT and independent witness at marina.
… threat that if Mcanns hire private investigators they will be liable for prosecution themselves.
… that is only off the top of my head and I didnt have to think about it. I could go on if you wish.
Is this sufficent to say the PJ in my humble opinion are completely incompetent?
September 26th, 2007 at 3:02 pm
The girl in the photo has the expression of relief on her face that you’d expect from someone just released from four years of being held captive by a violent, abusive father and a negligent, boozed-up mother.
So, clearly not Madeleine.
September 26th, 2007 at 3:01 pm
I think the little girl with round baby cheeks in the picture looks younger than Maddie. It could be Maddie, I suppose. Oh, somebody knows if Maddie can be found on this earth.
What if this Anorak site goes down? What happens to the discussion? I mean, it’s not available all the time…
September 26th, 2007 at 3:01 pm
410 Bulldumps says,
“it clearly says in the mail that they spotted the girl then took her picture.”…..
my point was how could she notice the girl, then take her photo, and still be 200 meters away, if they were travelling at 60 kph?”
Well the Express states,
“She told Spanish radio station COPE: “I was taking photos of everything we saw, and we saw a group of people and took a photo.
“As soon as I took the photo we were struck by the little girl, who was very blonde.
“We said the name of the girl, but we couldn’t believe it could be here. “When we arrived back in Spain we downloaded the card of photographs onto our computer.”
I have read this account in other papers. So it sounds like she was already taking photos of passing traffic and as she took the photo then noticed the blonde girl.
Are you really eminent in your field of work? I have never heard of eminent image manipulators.
September 26th, 2007 at 2:58 pm
everybody back on ?
September 26th, 2007 at 2:57 pm
we have lift off!!
September 26th, 2007 at 2:16 pm
I was just repeating what was on the lunchtime news. The expert was on.
I meant ‘don’t shoot the messenger’, it isn’t my opinion cos I don’t have one, just passing the news on.
They also interviewed the young woman…. maybe its on the SKY news link?
September 26th, 2007 at 2:16 pm
412
Apparently the police have identified the man who was with this group and they know who the group are.
September 26th, 2007 at 2:16 pm
bulldump-410
you just said the picture had been manipulated
the pros have said it as not been tampered with-so how can we take you seriously
September 26th, 2007 at 2:15 pm
406 jon
Truce it is. Islam and Christianity could learn so much from us
September 26th, 2007 at 2:15 pm
Jon don’t sit there being all contrite justifying it about the injustice to the mccanns and then throw in as an aside that the PJ are incompetent. Apology accepted, but unless you have direct knowledge of PJ incompetence. If its just speculation on your part then fair enough.
September 26th, 2007 at 2:14 pm
Moderation - has it been confirmed that the picture has not been altered (but that they can’t see if it’s Madeleine)?
If that is the case, it may explain why the picture was made public. ie if it’s not Madeleine, surely the other people in the picture will come forward… if it’s Madeleine, nobody would certainly come forward.
Where did you read that Moderation?
September 26th, 2007 at 2:14 pm
I hope this is Madeleine. The thing that I find strange about the people in the photograph is that all the woman have muslim head scarfs on except the young girl in the skirt who could be 12 years of age and up. A girl of that age and even younger would also be wearing a muslim head scarf. Why is she not wearing one? So I wonder if they are one connected family or not. Also when I saw the photo I immeditately thought that if an abduction did take place (which I believe did) the abductors may have finally just abandoned Madeleine because of all the press and passed her on.
I think if the photo were doctored Interpol would be able to recognise this pretty quickly. I doubt a spanish girl who seems innocent enough would risk being caught out for fraud in such a well publiced case. I saw her on the news and she seemed very geniune as most people have been regarding sightings.
September 26th, 2007 at 2:14 pm
Moderation
Also, whilst you are here, could you please post regarding the Priest disappearing/re-appearing, as you stated quite firmly he had NOT disappeared, yet these so called parishioners think he did for some reason according to the paper (Posts by Toni and Sam)
September 26th, 2007 at 2:12 pm
moderation, you have said don’t argue with me because i dont know what i’m talking about. is that suppossed to mean nobody else does?
what professional lab was that then, and what kinda analaysis?
as i have said in the past i have been doing post production work since i left uni 18 years ago.
i have the cutting edge in image manipulation software and developed plugins for alien skin, i am fairly eminent in my field.
my point was how could she notice the girl, then take her photo, and still be 200 meters away, if they were travelling at 60 kph?
it clearly says in the mail that they spotted the girl then took her picture.
even if it took her 10 seconds to get her camera out and snap the shot that would increase the distance from which she initially spotted the girl by 100 meters.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=484025&in_page_id=1770
The picture was taken on 31 August by Spanish holidaymaker Clara Torres in Zinat near Tangiers after she spotted the blonde girl among the group and thought it was odd.
She only took it seriously after reading about other sightings in Morocco and contacted her local police force in Albacete near Valencia. The picture was sent to Interpol and to the McCanns’ legal team, who are now studying it.
please not the word ‘AFTER’
September 26th, 2007 at 2:11 pm
SSS you are wrong and that’s it…….. I worked in that area for far too long so I know and have the qualification.
September 26th, 2007 at 2:11 pm
news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7013480.stm
Here it is in black and white. (The fact, not the photo).
This photo got into the media because is was given to them by Camp McCann.
And yet, here we all are, discussing it as though it were some neutral piece of evidence.
The game’s afoot.
September 26th, 2007 at 2:07 pm

Actually psychologically, you will find I am correct.
And I can not believe you think for one moment that I was condoning paedophilia. I was actually pointing out the psychological differences between a child abuser and a paedophile.
Obviously, you haven’t studied in depth or been taught the differences between the two, but psychologically that is the difference and they are distinguished from each other for good reason.
Only an idiot would think I condone paedophilia or any sort of abuse against children.
The problem with writing things down is people can read into what you say whatever they want.
September 26th, 2007 at 2:07 pm
m.e Truce?
BTW. Just to clarify a point I do not consider my self pro Mcann. I am pro Madeleine and get frustrated and over protective when I see things being written that feed into anything that takes the focus off the search for her.
I dont have feelings either way for the parents, its just that the drugging story etc was just too incredible and so full of gaping holes and incompetacy within the PJ. If I could see just one tiny bit of credible evidence against them then I would condone resources spent on them but I can honestly say hand on heart I havent and the fact that they have been reported as dismissing a sighting saying that its impossible that she is dead….welll … Im sorry I have a temper too and it went into high overdrive this morning. I apoligise for any offences caused.
September 26th, 2007 at 2:05 pm
Again taking the conspiracy angle. Why would you bother taking such a photo in the first place? Boredom??? Is the car moving? That would make it even stranger. Does anyone agree this is fast becoming the weirdest case in criminal history?
September 26th, 2007 at 2:05 pm
398 The McNotts says:
“Honestly they change their lines so often I am finding it hard to know which, if any, to actually believe.
I remain on fence as I have yet to find an acceptable reason for them doing harm to their harm to their own child, but am finding this position a hard place to be given lack of proof the poor wee girl was abducted.”
That’s exactly my sentiment…which leaves me with the accidental death and cover up hypothesis.
September 26th, 2007 at 2:02 pm
i dont think naturally it happens like that bulldump-
you would be stopping every bus driver and taxi driver every time you saw a blonde girl going passed at 30 mph.
September 26th, 2007 at 1:59 pm
The photo has been analysed in a professional lab and they confirm it has not been tampered with but it is not clear enough for their recognition equipment.
(on the news so don’t argue with me because I just take photographs with my trusty 35ml SLR. I’m not into digital that much!)
September 26th, 2007 at 1:55 pm
stig that is another load of codswallop, how could the woman take a picture from 200 meters travelling at 60 k/m/h and think it was maddie.
before she took the shot?
why didn’t she take the picture from closer/
why didnt she ask the driver to stop?
if she was even tempted to think it was maddie, surley the reward money would have been an insentive to embarrass your self and tell the drivr to stop.
this picture has done what is was suppossed to, detract our conversation from the fact hat the mccanns have a missing, probably dead aughter, and they are in the frame
