Madeleine McCann: Blonde Child Seen In Morocco
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
DAILY MAIL front page: “Could this be Maddie?”
Readers see a picture of a child being carried on a woman’s back - “The intriguing picture being probed by Interpol.”
Pages 10 and 11: “Could this really be Maddie?”
This is the picture of a girl “in the clutches of a group of Moroccans”. The picture was taken four weeks ago near Tangiers by Spaniard Clara Torres.
DAILY MIRROR front page: “MADDY IN MOROCCO?”
Readers see the same picture. The Full “astonishing story” is on pages 4 and 5.
Pages 4 and 5: “COULD IT BE?” Less the full story than another question.
“GERRY: I KNOW WE WILL BE CLEARED” – Gerry McCann says he and his wife “wanted to be eliminated from the enquiry as quickly as possible”. Some news.
THE SUN front page: “MOROCCO PHOTO SENSATION. IS THIS MADDIE?”
The picture is “sensational”. It has been described as “convincing”, but by whom is not said.
Pages 4 and 5: “GERRY & KATE: IT COULD BE HER – MADDIE PARENTS HOPE AT SIGHTING SENSATION.”
Clara Torres is talking on Spanish radio. She looks at the photo. Says she: “It sent shivers down my spine.”
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “NOW A ‘PHOTO’ OF MADELEINE IN MOROCCO.”
‘Photo’ is placed in quotes lest readers mistake the picture for a ‘SNAP’ or a ‘SHOT’.
Spanish Government official Jose Herrero Arcas says: “The National Police received a photograph by email taken by a young Spanish couple who believe it shows Madeleine McCann. The quality of the photograph is not very clear and it was taken from around 200 metres away. However, the National Police are taking the claim seriously enough to have sent it on to their colleagues at Interpol. I cannot give any more information than that.”
DAILY STAR front page: “MADDIE – AMAZING PHOTO IN MOROCCO.”
Pages 4 and 5: “MADDIE SEEN IN MOROCCO – Bombshell new photo is probed by Interpol.”
THE TIMES front page: “Police start investigation into ‘picture in Morocco of Madeleine McCann’.”
Page 5: “New photograph shows child like Madeleine on African woman’s back.”
A source close to the McCanns tells one and all: “The McCanns are not going to get their hopes up until the photograph has been sent for forensic examination.” And, dare it be said, a DNA test.
DAILY TELEGRAPH front page: “Is this Madeleine in Morocco?” The search for the missing child has taken a “dramatic turn”.
Page 9: “Gerry McCann is “confident” he and his wife will be cleared. A source tells us: “It is very unlikely that British police would question the McCanns on behalf of the Portuguese now.”
Robert Murat responds to claims by nanny Charlotte Pennington that on the night of Madeleine’s disappearance he was by the McCann family apartment: “I certainly was not there that night. At no point was I there.”

Going off topic.
It has just been said on the radio, that Rhys Jones’s mother will be on Crimewatch tonight. Apparently, a 15 year old was standing nearby and HE was the target, Rhys was in the way and got shot instead
His mother is appealing to the mother of the shooter saying that she must know her son murdered Rhys.

The recent photo purportedly showing Madeleine McCann is not of the missing girl, according to reports from Morocco. Sky News understands the girl is from a local family.
Sky’s crime correspondent Martin Brunt said the reports from Morocco were unofficial but he understood that the child in the photo came from a farming family.

‘NOT that it makes any difference, peadophelia is wrong, as is any kind of child abuse. I’m glad to hear you say it. Because I’m certain you are a loving parent.
September 26th, 2007 at 3:59 pm
481 - Thank you.

Edna 451, I think I did mention the drugs. The whole Iberian coast is awash isn’t it? The route to Europe…. very scary prospect.
If you’re in Portugal, are you near Praia? My friend who has a house in Praia and is there now said that the Catholic priest was never missing…. The Star (wow) said he is. Do you know how this started?
September 26th, 2007 at 3:58 pm
477 - It is just that there is a difference between someone ‘thinking’ something and ‘claiming’ something. THAT was my point. And your condescending tone is unneccesary and cheap.
September 26th, 2007 at 3:57 pm
482,
regardless if you think these people are guilty or innocent, I am just so upset right now that it wasn’t Madeleine. The first time we had a picture of some kind. I going now wasted enough time arguing on this site.

thanks for that-

BBC news on TV.

I think there’s such a thing as a situational paedophile - they don’t have a sustained interest in kids, but they get close to a child in their environment and due to either a personal crisis (like depression or drugs) or amorality (or thinking the child is old/mature enough to consent) they abuse the child.
And I know some have a romantic interest where they don’t sexually abuse (but probably emotionally abuse if the relationship gets too demanding for the child to cope with).
I haven’t heard of their being a distinction in terminology between child molester and paedophile though.

Parting of the hair?? that is so ridiculous…..
They could have changed it morron

470 - So do I. Was that radio/TV or website? Would like to follow up. Thx.

469,
no just look it up yourself, loads of articles on PJ thinking the McCanns are guilty of accidently killing Madeleine for quite some time now, are you up on the case? I am not your personal library and your point is not valid, you asked me a rather obivous question which has a rather obvious answer. Bye for now. By the way you type in GOOGLE and then click and you can look up and find many things on the internet, just try it.
September 26th, 2007 at 3:52 pm
Aha! The HAIR!
I knew it!
After all, if SCIENCE has taught us ANYTHING, it’s that HAIR simply CANNOT be styled in any way whatsoever! That girl could NOT have been her, because the technology REQUIRED to perform such an operation (moving strands of hair from one side to the other) probably wont be perfected for HUNDREDS of years!
September 26th, 2007 at 3:52 pm
Jon let me explain it to you by using each of your points.
delay in closing boarders
(comment) There was {is} no evidence of abduction, but the reality is no country closes it’s borders. It is a myth seen only in movies. When did any country actually close it’s borders. Only in times of conflict would this have any possibility. In any event for the Police to close it’s countries borders on the account of a reported missing child would probably contravene elements of EU law.
preservation (or not) of crime scene.
(comment) considering that it is generally reported that the world and his wife trampled all over the place before any forensic examination could take place, need I say more
knee jerk reation to media frenzy
(comment) what knee jerk reaction. Have I missed something over the last month or so. There seems to be leaks to the Portuguese press but knee jerk I doubt it. Why because many of the leaks have credence. Now if we are talking about the British press well where shall we start.
failure to carry out thorough area search
(comment) sorry were you there do you have exact first hand knowledge of what the police did or do you believe everything you read in the press. My TV showed lots of pictures of policemen with dogs and I don’t mean scent of death dogs.
failure to produce identifit of suspect seen by JT and independent witness at marina.
(comment) I won’t bore you with the established view on eyewitness evidence but considering we have yet to have a consistent description of the suspect, I’m not quite sure what the point is you are trying to make. There have been a number revised descriptions. And please don’t say he looked like Murat it’s quite tedious hearing Murat being put up all the time.
threat that if Mcanns hire private investigators they will be liable for prosecution themselves.
(comment) It seems to be an issue of fact under Portuguese law, not a threat. Let’s face who was it who let slip that ex SAS we’re en route
So as you see for each point there is an equal and opposite argument. And so it is not an opinion based on fact to say that the PJ are incompetent. Your justification for your off message ranting was because you had become emotional (the word you used was temper) because you felt that all the speculation was an injustice to the Mccanns. My observation was that it is therefore invalid in the same breath to then speculate about the PJ as though it were fact that they were incompetent. I’m sure you’re more than capable of working out the double standards in that.

Momo, apology accepted. To be honest, when I first started looking into this, and doing research about WHY people (paedo’s) do what they do, I thought it all sounded like a load of old beeswax, but I have read many many research books and papers, and it IS true.
Psychologically, there is a difference between the two, and a big one.
NOT that it makes any difference, paedophilia is wrong, as is any sort of child abuse.

Judith, I used the “her” as I knew a woman like that once. Knew EVERYTHING about EVERYTHING, and was never wrong.
It was very tiring!

The photograph doesn’t look much like Madeleine. First of all, the girl in this picture looks younger (certainly not 4 years old). Secondly, she has what looks liek a natural parting down one side of her head while Madeleine had hers right down the centre. Thirdly, this one’s hair curls up at the ends, whereas Madeleine’s would hang down limply in a mop. Fourthly, this child’s eyes look closer together than Madeleine’s and seem otherwise different. Fifth, there’s another older little girl walking in the photo who could well be this one’s sister. Sixth, if this was Madeleine, you would expect her to look totally down, frightened and traumatised and this one doesn’t.
It also seems strange that unless they’ve been living under a rock, anyone would be carrying Madeleine in the open like that for all the world to see.
So I can’t see the resemblance at all.
September 26th, 2007 at 3:49 pm
Speaking of drugs, dead child’s bodies have been used in Europe to smuggle drugs. A child’s life is not worth much, globally thinking. If my child goes missing, I’m convinced she/he is chopped into pieces and her/his body parts sold to an organ bank. That is the worst case scenario thinking when you’re a parent.
What is so special about Maddie that Moroccans would take her/keep her? They have children of their own, I suppose. OK, if it’s a Westener that keeps the abducted girl hidden in a Moroccon village until the storm has settled. That’s the only idea I can come with.
I read in the media outside the UK that the Portuguese police believe K mcCann killed her daugher, hid her body (with the help of the husband and possibly friends) and later disposed of the body with the hired car. The mcCanns were coldly told by the Portuguese police they would stay one year behind bars and lose their twins because they didn’t confess nor cooperate with the police. That was the background to their homecoming or escape or what you call it.
September 26th, 2007 at 3:48 pm
I wished that it had been.
September 26th, 2007 at 3:47 pm
It has been confirmed that the girl in photo is not Madleine McCann, reported by BBC news
September 26th, 2007 at 3:46 pm
Everytime I ask a direct question to an argent pro-McCann poster to support or clarify their argument, they go silent. Very frustrating, but speaks volumes.

Agree with what you say. This is my impression of her/him (or do we know it’s a ‘her’?) as well. Also,he/she/it spends his/her/its life on this site, apparently. When’s the time found for all the high-powered intellectual stuff? Shall we all start bragging about who we are, what we know and how educated we are? Thought this forum was about someone else.
September 26th, 2007 at 3:44 pm
461 - Google what? ‘the Portuguese claim that they are guilty’ - What have the Portugese CLAIMED the McCanns are GUILTY of? The PJ have said what their theories are, but I was unaware they had claimed the McCanns are guilty.

Sorry, your post sounded rather stupid to me. And for the record, I don’t have a psychology degree. I just thought that you made a mistake there.
September 26th, 2007 at 3:43 pm
I noticed that a lot of posters, previously, when I’ve said the P.R. is rubbish will say - What would you do if it was your child?
And I agree the publicity was fine and probably useful at first - but any savvy media adviser would have told them there comes a point when over exposure leads to either diminishing returns or increased hostility to a profile. Gerry himself said it started to go quiet in week 6 and that’s where they should have stepped out of the spotlight and just updated the public every month or so. But clearly he couldn’t stand the spotlight going away - so now they’re in a mess.

On that note, I am off again, will pop back later to see if anymore news on the missing priest, as I am more interested in the story behind he was missing, he wasn’t missing, then I am in photographs which in all likelihood aren’t Madeleine.
I wonder how much this person got paid for her photograph?
