Madeleine McCann: Blonde Child Seen In Morocco
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
DAILY MAIL front page: “Could this be Maddie?”
Readers see a picture of a child being carried on a woman’s back - “The intriguing picture being probed by Interpol.”
Pages 10 and 11: “Could this really be Maddie?”
This is the picture of a girl “in the clutches of a group of Moroccans”. The picture was taken four weeks ago near Tangiers by Spaniard Clara Torres.
DAILY MIRROR front page: “MADDY IN MOROCCO?”
Readers see the same picture. The Full “astonishing story” is on pages 4 and 5.
Pages 4 and 5: “COULD IT BE?” Less the full story than another question.
“GERRY: I KNOW WE WILL BE CLEARED” – Gerry McCann says he and his wife “wanted to be eliminated from the enquiry as quickly as possible”. Some news.
THE SUN front page: “MOROCCO PHOTO SENSATION. IS THIS MADDIE?”
The picture is “sensational”. It has been described as “convincing”, but by whom is not said.
Pages 4 and 5: “GERRY & KATE: IT COULD BE HER – MADDIE PARENTS HOPE AT SIGHTING SENSATION.”
Clara Torres is talking on Spanish radio. She looks at the photo. Says she: “It sent shivers down my spine.”
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “NOW A ‘PHOTO’ OF MADELEINE IN MOROCCO.”
‘Photo’ is placed in quotes lest readers mistake the picture for a ‘SNAP’ or a ‘SHOT’.
Spanish Government official Jose Herrero Arcas says: “The National Police received a photograph by email taken by a young Spanish couple who believe it shows Madeleine McCann. The quality of the photograph is not very clear and it was taken from around 200 metres away. However, the National Police are taking the claim seriously enough to have sent it on to their colleagues at Interpol. I cannot give any more information than that.”
DAILY STAR front page: “MADDIE – AMAZING PHOTO IN MOROCCO.”
Pages 4 and 5: “MADDIE SEEN IN MOROCCO – Bombshell new photo is probed by Interpol.”
THE TIMES front page: “Police start investigation into ‘picture in Morocco of Madeleine McCann’.”
Page 5: “New photograph shows child like Madeleine on African woman’s back.”
A source close to the McCanns tells one and all: “The McCanns are not going to get their hopes up until the photograph has been sent for forensic examination.” And, dare it be said, a DNA test.
DAILY TELEGRAPH front page: “Is this Madeleine in Morocco?” The search for the missing child has taken a “dramatic turn”.
Page 9: “Gerry McCann is “confident” he and his wife will be cleared. A source tells us: “It is very unlikely that British police would question the McCanns on behalf of the Portuguese now.”
Robert Murat responds to claims by nanny Charlotte Pennington that on the night of Madeleine’s disappearance he was by the McCann family apartment: “I certainly was not there that night. At no point was I there.”

yes thanks to the Spainish police, Interpol and some reporters.

The McCann’s can learn from this photo, even uneducated Moroccan farm families without a pot to piss in don’t leave their children at home alone while they go out.
September 26th, 2007 at 5:41 pm
So what was all that about ‘why didn’t the police act sooner’!! As everyone will know by now - it seems like the photo mystery has already been investigated…..by oh yeh. the police.
September 26th, 2007 at 5:40 pm
541. I don’t think so. Usually the kid escapes or the police come in contact with the abductor over another matter - like their driving is erratic, or a neighbour has made a complaint.

Let’s ask this question: Has any missing person ever been found by a member of the public?
My guess is that sightings of missing people by members of the public are not almost always — but always — mistaken.
September 26th, 2007 at 5:34 pm
532,
why so you can make nasty comments about them?
September 26th, 2007 at 5:34 pm
522. Actually, that was a bit mean. What kind of books do you write Mod? Is it literary or genre fiction? I love sci-fi myself, at the moment I’m trying to convince my lecturers that it’s feasible on stage. They’re not very receptive.

Here’s a later article about the MISSING PRIEST FOUND AND OKAY, dated September 21, that confirms the priest was missing but one of his assistants confirmed that Father Jose Pacheco was okay and was meeting with the police: http://www.dailysnack.com/news_article.html?fSKU=7809
I suspect from reading both articles, that there is truth that for several days, the priest was shaken by the leaked suspicions of the PJ, and that he removed himself with his regular routine to deal with his emotions privately.
I do think that Moderation (346/348) and the Real Stig (353) lose credibility when they deny things with such certitude and yet have nothing solid to back it up except hearsay, while meanwhile discounting a published report as rubbish. Perhaps one of them or another poster does have connections to people in the community where the priest preaches and can confirm THIS priest is there now and saying masses, but it is possible that for several days Father Pacheco did take a break from his official duties and that led to speculation and concern, from his parishioners and even one of his colleagues within the church (who was quoted by name in the Daily Star article).

Sorry, I tried the link on this post myself and it once again plays a different Sun video clip, not ‘Gerry makes statement on return to the UK’which shows the couple coming down the plane steps with the twins. It has done this over and over again. I can’t work out what’s happened.

522. I can’t say hearing someone was a social worker makes me confident in their judgement on child protection matters - thier reputation stinks these days, what with Victoria Climbie and the sex abuse scandals at care homes.
September 26th, 2007 at 5:29 pm
520,
well given that there is a significant track record of child trafficking going on in Northern Africa, and if it looks somewhat suspicious then yes why not check it out. Nothing wrong with that. I am sure these people were not offended when asked about their daughter since the farmer is smiling in the after photo.

OK Pic is NOT Maddie.
I think it was released by Team McCann to steer everyone clear of the link posted earlier about the dogs finding ‘the smell of death’ on one of the Tapas 7.

And now they are looking into an American case and consulting with the lawyers of a hubby who was convicted by dogs of killing wife and then conviction was overturned.

I’m pasting this link for two reasons. 1) It shows the McMs coming off the plane on return to UK (Sun video). The camera pans very close onto Amelie, the very blonde little girl. Is it my imagination or do her eyelashes look very black - mascara? 2nd reason is because try as I might - and contrary to other clips - I can’t transfer it from screen to ‘Favourites’ so I’ll see if it works here. If it doesn’t and anyone has this clip I’d be pleased if you’d paste it, and have a look at the little girl who looks made-up.

If it was my child who was missing, and a photo of anyone who had even the slightest resemblance to my child had come up, i would be strip-searching all the people in the picture. (no matter what colour they are)

Photo Girl ‘Not Missing Madeleine’
Updated: 17:02, Wednesday September 26, 2007
Hopes that a blonde girl photographed in Morocco could be Madeleine McCann have been dashed after British journalists said they had tracked her down.

hey she was a berber girl
someone said that earlier.
September 26th, 2007 at 5:22 pm
517. Yeh, so we know the name. What are we supposed to do though? It’s not likely she’ll be found anywhere in Britain. And massive publicity was bound to lead to scrutiny of the parents - which is damaging to their reputations.
And she still hasn’t been found - so it blatantly hasn’t worked.
Unless The Sun finds her, even if she is found, it’s unlikely to have been the P.R. that got her back - it’s more likely to be the police or accident.
September 26th, 2007 at 5:21 pm
Oh well back to knocking the McCanns. They’ll have to find something else to take the focus away from them now.
