Madeleine McCann: Blonde Child Seen In Morocco
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
DAILY MAIL front page: “Could this be Maddie?”
Readers see a picture of a child being carried on a woman’s back - “The intriguing picture being probed by Interpol.”
Pages 10 and 11: “Could this really be Maddie?”
This is the picture of a girl “in the clutches of a group of Moroccans”. The picture was taken four weeks ago near Tangiers by Spaniard Clara Torres.
DAILY MIRROR front page: “MADDY IN MOROCCO?”
Readers see the same picture. The Full “astonishing story” is on pages 4 and 5.
Pages 4 and 5: “COULD IT BE?” Less the full story than another question.
“GERRY: I KNOW WE WILL BE CLEARED” – Gerry McCann says he and his wife “wanted to be eliminated from the enquiry as quickly as possible”. Some news.
THE SUN front page: “MOROCCO PHOTO SENSATION. IS THIS MADDIE?”
The picture is “sensational”. It has been described as “convincing”, but by whom is not said.
Pages 4 and 5: “GERRY & KATE: IT COULD BE HER – MADDIE PARENTS HOPE AT SIGHTING SENSATION.”
Clara Torres is talking on Spanish radio. She looks at the photo. Says she: “It sent shivers down my spine.”
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “NOW A ‘PHOTO’ OF MADELEINE IN MOROCCO.”
‘Photo’ is placed in quotes lest readers mistake the picture for a ‘SNAP’ or a ‘SHOT’.
Spanish Government official Jose Herrero Arcas says: “The National Police received a photograph by email taken by a young Spanish couple who believe it shows Madeleine McCann. The quality of the photograph is not very clear and it was taken from around 200 metres away. However, the National Police are taking the claim seriously enough to have sent it on to their colleagues at Interpol. I cannot give any more information than that.”
DAILY STAR front page: “MADDIE – AMAZING PHOTO IN MOROCCO.”
Pages 4 and 5: “MADDIE SEEN IN MOROCCO – Bombshell new photo is probed by Interpol.”
THE TIMES front page: “Police start investigation into ‘picture in Morocco of Madeleine McCann’.”
Page 5: “New photograph shows child like Madeleine on African woman’s back.”
A source close to the McCanns tells one and all: “The McCanns are not going to get their hopes up until the photograph has been sent for forensic examination.” And, dare it be said, a DNA test.
DAILY TELEGRAPH front page: “Is this Madeleine in Morocco?” The search for the missing child has taken a “dramatic turn”.
Page 9: “Gerry McCann is “confident” he and his wife will be cleared. A source tells us: “It is very unlikely that British police would question the McCanns on behalf of the Portuguese now.”
Robert Murat responds to claims by nanny Charlotte Pennington that on the night of Madeleine’s disappearance he was by the McCann family apartment: “I certainly was not there that night. At no point was I there.”

Aunty Phillymeena, having viewed this photograph up close has thankfully given us this explanation;
This bunch of Red Indians are OBVIOUSLY moving house. If that child is Madeleine, well all I can say is her saliva, tears, pish would be litterally ALL OVER that womans back. These people are corrupt. Why would anyone venture outdoors with a child when there is a PERFECTLY adequate cresh situated behind that tree? Gerry and Kate are VERY innocent.

556 The picture has not been tampered with, source Sky News

Why did this woman take this photograph? maybe she thought it was Maddie, but no she couldn`t have, cos she would have reported that last month, so why did she take it, and why wait until the Mccans got desperate to prove that she was alive to publish it?
Has anyone else used software such as funhouse where you can modify a photograph to include another person, its fun.
Why is this picture so blurred, it was obviously a digital camera, and would she have recognised a small child from 200 yards.
My suggestion, is that this is a desparate attemp to prove their innocence and fool us all.

They are guilty of child neglect at least from their own admission
my sympathy is to the twins who have lost maybe the one person who would have looked after them properly
I am not a hate monger , I want them to be punished and to say they were wrong.
You are obviously a weekend parent that has their own guilt on child care
and are in denial
How can you sympathise with child neglecters? instead of innocent babies?

she just decided having a fringe. and she’s sorry having blond hair.

549 - Sorry Puzzled no not by the police this time. A journalist went to the village. The police didn’t bother.
September 26th, 2007 at 5:58 pm
560 - Chopper - Quite. Someone posted some very interesting stuff on Anorak in the last couple of days from the website of the ex-SAS co the McCanns are using.
It dwelt on business protection and advice on hostage scenarios.
Nothing on the recovery of missing children.

561. I did say I was being a bit mean.
But it’s not a sweeping statement to say that their reputation stinks - there have been several public enquiries detailing the failings of various departments to back me up.
A sweeping statement would be saying they were all incompetent (which I didn’t say).
September 26th, 2007 at 5:53 pm
561 - Mod. ‘I think making sweeping statements about Social Workers is very immature.’ I agree. I also think it is very immature to make sweeping statements - full stop.
September 26th, 2007 at 5:53 pm
A whole day spent by the gang here discussing a photo that (as I said earlier) was obviously not little Maddie.
To an insult to time wasted, some journo spoils the fun by the simply going out and doing to real world leg work- that is cheating, surely we are here to solve the crime and get Maddie back by google searches.
Do you all somehow feel cheated?

521. Judge Dread.
Thanks for the link.
“Evening Standard journalist Rashid Razaq flew there from London and saw the youngster for himself.”
Full credit to this journalist for actually getting off his arse to check something out.
September 26th, 2007 at 5:52 pm
what was the little girls excuse for impersonating maddie then?
September 26th, 2007 at 5:50 pm
540. I’m sure the McCanns are in agony in private, and I feel sorry for them.
But they do have a P.R. and a media strategy. Gerry went to the Edinburgh Festival and they both appeared on the Heaven and Earth Show (and they have released details about their lives, not just stuff relevant to Madeleine) - so I think we’re fully entitled to talk about how they come across in the media.
I think their public image is questionable.
September 26th, 2007 at 5:50 pm
543 I got the same one… strange, isn’t it?
557 has got a point though
September 26th, 2007 at 5:50 pm
554,
no you are morally incorrect to spew venom and direct so much hate at a family and situation you really don’t not much about, as all of us here don’t really know what happened. I don’t care if you wish to be such a hate monger, that is your choice (and bad karma) but my conscience in clear in how I have conducted myself on this site. Innocent until proven guilty is a very important principle to uphold, many wars have been fought to achieve this type of democracy.
September 26th, 2007 at 5:50 pm
chopper 550, good post good call
September 26th, 2007 at 5:49 pm
Bulldump, I told you, it was on SKYNews at lunchtime. Don’t you read the posts before firing off another?? I answered you immediately, naturally! Would I do anything else??????????
and obviously it hasn’t been doctored bacause they’ve found the little girl in the photo.
September 26th, 2007 at 5:49 pm
552 Let us judge the efficiency of a search strategy by past performance.
No missing person has ever been found by a member of the public.
So, there is no point setting up an enormous PR machine to publicise the image of a missing person. It merely generates false sightings, with the attendant wate of time and resources.
If the missing person was someone close to me, and I had a large fund to spend, I wouldn’t spend it on media and advertising and PR.
September 26th, 2007 at 5:47 pm
so the woman who lives in Praia who went to the mass that he said, got it wrong? Maybe. But I was told he didn’t miss mass once though he did avoid the media. I’m sure ‘Edna’ can find out as she lives there.
As Portugal is a catholic country there is no way the police would dare pressure a priest.
Again its all media hype…..
Karen, I think making sweeping statements about Social Workers is very immature.
There are many hard-working, dedicated men and women doing a lousy job for rubbish money and for which they are damned if they do and damned if they don’t.
September 26th, 2007 at 5:47 pm
Having an extremely intimate knowledge of the SAS, I wasn’t aware that they were specialists at tracking down missing children?
September 26th, 2007 at 5:47 pm
550 yes they can add it to the back of thei tshirts
kids in the way of tappas and wine?
theres the new wrap around child holder to keep them close and no need for tranquilizers
September 26th, 2007 at 5:46 pm
RE CHILD IS NOT MADELEINE - EVENING STANDARD STORY
Perhaps Team McCann would do well to hire Rashid Razaq of the Evening Standard to verify sightings of Madeleine.
He seems to be far more mobile and investigative than their crack SAS team.
Alternatively they could have just looked at my post from 9.54 this morning.
September 26th, 2007 at 5:45 pm
543 Edna
Looks to me like too much traffic between Anorak’s web application and its database.
I reckon Anorak gets a pretty good service for what I guess its paying; a more reliable service would cost around ten times as much.
September 26th, 2007 at 5:45 pm
hey moderation, i am still a waiting your reply as to the source of your allegation that the picture had been examined by experts and had not been manipulated????????????????????????????
cause i am telling you that that it has
September 26th, 2007 at 5:44 pm
(548) Cute kid - I am assuming that she is the same child as in the other photo?
September 26th, 2007 at 5:44 pm
540
If they become suspects and change their stories to suit and lie and if they confess to throwing rhys out to live on the streets i might have opinionate yes
but no they are really suffering and are good parents, werent neglectful and not suspected of lying and carrying his remains in a boot of a sodding car!!!!!!!!!!
Then getting a ridiculous PR man to be their defence!!!!!!!!
So your comparison is a bloody stupid one!
September 26th, 2007 at 5:44 pm

ooppss…I meant slow…hehe

I agree, but what if it was a missing person close to you?
