Madeleine McCann: Blonde Child Seen In Morocco
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
DAILY MAIL front page: “Could this be Maddie?”
Readers see a picture of a child being carried on a woman’s back - “The intriguing picture being probed by Interpol.”
Pages 10 and 11: “Could this really be Maddie?”
This is the picture of a girl “in the clutches of a group of Moroccans”. The picture was taken four weeks ago near Tangiers by Spaniard Clara Torres.
DAILY MIRROR front page: “MADDY IN MOROCCO?”
Readers see the same picture. The Full “astonishing story” is on pages 4 and 5.
Pages 4 and 5: “COULD IT BE?” Less the full story than another question.
“GERRY: I KNOW WE WILL BE CLEARED” – Gerry McCann says he and his wife “wanted to be eliminated from the enquiry as quickly as possible”. Some news.
THE SUN front page: “MOROCCO PHOTO SENSATION. IS THIS MADDIE?”
The picture is “sensational”. It has been described as “convincing”, but by whom is not said.
Pages 4 and 5: “GERRY & KATE: IT COULD BE HER – MADDIE PARENTS HOPE AT SIGHTING SENSATION.”
Clara Torres is talking on Spanish radio. She looks at the photo. Says she: “It sent shivers down my spine.”
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “NOW A ‘PHOTO’ OF MADELEINE IN MOROCCO.”
‘Photo’ is placed in quotes lest readers mistake the picture for a ‘SNAP’ or a ‘SHOT’.
Spanish Government official Jose Herrero Arcas says: “The National Police received a photograph by email taken by a young Spanish couple who believe it shows Madeleine McCann. The quality of the photograph is not very clear and it was taken from around 200 metres away. However, the National Police are taking the claim seriously enough to have sent it on to their colleagues at Interpol. I cannot give any more information than that.”
DAILY STAR front page: “MADDIE – AMAZING PHOTO IN MOROCCO.”
Pages 4 and 5: “MADDIE SEEN IN MOROCCO – Bombshell new photo is probed by Interpol.”
THE TIMES front page: “Police start investigation into ‘picture in Morocco of Madeleine McCann’.”
Page 5: “New photograph shows child like Madeleine on African woman’s back.”
A source close to the McCanns tells one and all: “The McCanns are not going to get their hopes up until the photograph has been sent for forensic examination.” And, dare it be said, a DNA test.
DAILY TELEGRAPH front page: “Is this Madeleine in Morocco?” The search for the missing child has taken a “dramatic turn”.
Page 9: “Gerry McCann is “confident” he and his wife will be cleared. A source tells us: “It is very unlikely that British police would question the McCanns on behalf of the Portuguese now.”
Robert Murat responds to claims by nanny Charlotte Pennington that on the night of Madeleine’s disappearance he was by the McCann family apartment: “I certainly was not there that night. At no point was I there.”
THE GUARDIAN & THE INDEPENDENT no Maddy news today.

Times has a good photo of the child in the child in Morocco:

Don’t know if this has already been observed by others, but I was quite surprised that journalists rushed to Africa, but the McCanns did not. Also, in their interviews, their facial expressions seem to indicate that they already know this is a false siting. They know because they already killed the real Maddy. Also, if you look back this week’s news, the papers were full of articles about Maddy being seen in Morrocco twice, back in May. I don’t recall these sitings in the paper. Maybe they were. My point is why did the media suddenly start reporting about the 2 previous sitings in May? Isn’t that old news? Suddenly, lo and behold, we have an actual picture that was taken a month ago in Africa. I smell a rat.

Is he allowed to talk?
I’m not catholic, so i don’t know these things.
It was however my understanding that he should take the contents of all confessions with him to the grave.

St Francis,
What is the priest’s duty to a news hungry press pack and for that matter to the public: if he has no useful info, and all he knows is that the McCanns appeared very upset, should he make a statement to stop all of this speculation about confessions etc.
September 26th, 2007 at 7:02 pm
Father Pacheco met the McCanns the day after Madeleine vanished on May 3.
GP Kate and her heart surgeon husband Gerry, both, 39, asked to see a priest that night as pals, fellow holidaymakers and resort staff launched a desperate hunt for the four-year-old.
But the meeting did not take place until the next day. The couple were so devastated Father Pacheco took
the unusual step of giving them the keys to the chapel so they could pray at any hour
There is one other person that knows what happened - and who is not connected to the McCanns. He is Father Pacheco. It is his moral and ethical obligation to God to tell the world what he knows. Catholicism, is NOT about protecting murderers. It is about learning to love, forgive, heal and sacrifice our lives for God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
If Father Pacheco knows what happened to Madeleine, regardless of his vow of silence for confession, this does not hold when Children are involved or missing. Jesus’s first love in life is the children of the world. As adults he has commanded that we protect and love our children. When that does not happen, a mortal sin is committed; not only by the perpetrators but by their enablers.
If he is hiding the knowledge of Madeleine having been killed accidently by her parents, Father Pacheco will have a fast track to heaven if he guides and counsels the McCanns to come forward, confess their sins and beg the world for forgiveness. Then he has done his job. On the otherhand, if he holds their dark secret behind the cloth and buries it along with Madeleine, he is just as guilty for not protecting Madeleiene’s legacy. Before the world can expect the McCanns to come forward, it is their Priest who must do so first and steer them in the direction of salvation to come clean and admit what they did. If he knows something, that many people already suspect, he can be highly instrumental in guiding the McCanns to do the right thing.
People should be turning to him to come forward. And the PJ are doing the right thing in asking him to explain why the McCanns would have requested to call him the very first night she went missing. No matter how religious one is, this is not normal behavior of parents of a missing child. But it would be normal if one committed a horrible act and was seeking spiritual help, guidance and redemption.
Father Pacheco, this is a plea for you to tell the world what you know about Madeleine’s disappearance. It is also a plea for you to counsel the McCanns into doing the right thing - the moral and the ethical thing - the reason you became a priest. The very foundation of Catholicism. On the Anniversary of St. Francis of Assisi, the protector of children and animals, we implore you to reveal the truth to the world for what you know about Madeleiene’s disappearance.

Kate is convinced now a morrocon man was following her all holiday
“Thats why it felt so right to leave them alone
We have a morrocon gardener at home!!”
September 26th, 2007 at 6:57 pm
Judge - is the right of free speech really a right to hurl abuse while hiding behind a false name.
Fair enough to say whatever you want in your own name and take responsiblity for it- but, generally, rights come with correlative responsiblities.
I don’t think anomious chat rooms are really what the First Amendment, the European Con of Human Rights really had at the head of the line

Edna… no I’m nothing to do with Anorak….
in the beginning(!!) I didn’t understand the site and when I changed from my own name I chose moderation cos I thought I was moderate……
I didn’t understand forums etc. Mods and Admin did say it wasn’t a prob.

Maybe someone should remind them that a little girl is missing.
September 26th, 2007 at 6:52 pm
615. I wouldn’t do that to you.
I tend to be anti-McCann, in that I can’t stand the P.R. machine, and I never quite got over Kate saying that it felt ’so right’ to leave the kids - it was the ’so’ that really grated.
But I don’t hate them. And I do feel sorry for them.
And I don’t think you’re wrong to defend them - and at least you never yell at me IN CAPS.

Very sorry to hear about your nightmares

Not sure how release of photo helps in “search” .All it did really was to cause a temporary diversion, over something that was fairly obvious from get go, was not even a good likeness, even if grainy. I wish this saga would be brought to a head one way or another.
I have no idea if McCann’s are guilty of foul play etc etc, or if they are simply plain stupid in thinking it perfectly OK to be leaving 3 such young kids alone.
I do wonder if the former, if their big guns -Clarence and lawyers etc know the truth.
I don’t know what todays photo was supposed to prove but it sure was a load of codswallop. Suppose the sale of tabloids was up for whatever that is worth.McCann’s surely knew, with gut instinct, from 1st look it was not their daughter.
September 26th, 2007 at 6:50 pm
Judge Dread, so its okay for brandon whatsit to bring it up in an accusation? come on……. If I answer seriously I’m called pompous or pious or whatever!
James.. you forgot to say IMO. because it is only that. Your opinion.

603 Carmen- Getting shot in the foot is a pain in the @rse. It usually happens when trying either to get invalided out of the trenches, or get a truth hound off your heals.

Thank God someone feels the same
September 26th, 2007 at 6:46 pm
I most emphatically am NOT Philomena McCann. HOWEVER I do admit to having something of a fixation with this MAGNIFICENT woman. She dominates my thoughts day and night. Mostly night.
I would like to be a source close to her.

I have to ask something Moderation. Are you the site owner? A user with a lot of pull? I see mods an admins mentioned occasionally and I’ve never quite understood it and was hesitant to ask as I’d risk being labeled a noob. My inquiring mind has to know. Thanks.

Mods and Admin
Edna, the user Moderation is a user like you.
We try not to appear too often, sometimes we are slated for not appearing and then slated for appearing.
But we do sometimes have to break up the fights that happen.
There are 4 of us in all: Anorak who owns the site, agw who is Admin, me (June) the Moderator, and Nick the webmaster
September 26th, 2007 at 6:44 pm
618,
that is your opinion of course.
September 26th, 2007 at 6:43 pm
614. Comedy isn’t light - it’s a proven coping mechanism to deal with tension. It’s a more controlled form of hysteria.
September 26th, 2007 at 6:42 pm
For the sake of team Mcaan and all the soft soakers I just want to say that if this case was genuine and Madelaine had been adbucted, the majority of us would join in the hunt whether it be financial, supportive or even just by displaying photographs and trinkets to increase awareness. We are not monsters and this is not a hate campaign, I am sure that any british citizen who could assist most definately would. On the other hand, we are not fools and do not take kindly to lies and deceit. It is team Mcaan, that has raised the publicity and a hefty fund and drawn adverse attention to themselves by refusing to assist the police, blaming others, showing no remorse, targeting the rich and famous, raising funds, globe trotting and taking us for complete fools.
We do not take kindly to this. They appear guilty because of their own behaviour, not because of any evidence, and they are hell bent on destroying every bit of that. If they are innocent, this is not helping, they need to concentrate on finding Maddie and stop treating the police and the rest of us with such contemp, this alone would prove their innocence.

601,
Yes indeed freedom of speech is important but there is a difference between hate mongering and intelligent discussion without prejudice. By your argument then do you think the KKK should have their own television station, something they have demanded in the past based on their right for ” freedom of speech”. There should always be standards that must be maintained, hate mongering in a public domain is not productive to say the least. As I have said my conscience is clear in my conduct on this site, now I really have to go. BYE BYE tag team wrestlers enjoy your endless posts tonight.

Holme
That was during a different government’s time and it just kind of disappeared, but don’t tell me you don’t have as bad or worse in your country. This exists everywhere and at the highest levels. Hell, look at all the priests that have been caught and worry about those who haven’t.

Karen, I know I am one step from the Devil Incarnate but its fun to keep going!
In the very beginning (!!) I posted naively with my name and website and got some real rubbish to the email addy.
Next book will be ‘Trial by Internet’ or somesuch.. this is brilliant research….

Moderation you have my respect for the work you did, but it won’t take much to lose it by making jokes about the Moors Murders. I remember them well, and the suffering Hindley and Brady put their victimes through. Thats in addition to Keith Bennetts poor mother who went to her grave not knowing where her son was buried.
It is not a matter to make light of.
