Madeleine McCann: Spies, Richard Branson PI And Maddy TV
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE. SPY-IN-SKY PLAN TO FIND HER KIDNAPPER.”
So she was kidnapped. Wasn’t she?
“Satellite and aerial footage as well as internet traffic should be used to help the hunt,” say “intelligence experts”, including Professor Anthony Glees, Director of Brunel University’s Centre for Intelligence and Security Studies. Security is his thing.
Pages 4 and 5: “Riddle of the McCanns’ day out” – Why did the McCanns go to Spain on August 3 and what did they do there? Clarence Mitchell says the TV cameras and journalists tracked their every move.
“Branson: They are innocent” – Richard Branson PI calls it a “grotesque nightmare”. He has donated £100,000 to help the McCanns clear their name. He says the McCanns have “the weight and support of Britain behind them”.
THE SUN front page: “OUTRAGE AS COPS CLAIM MADDIE ‘BURIED IN SPAIN’.”
Pages 6 and 7: “POLICE PROBE LOST 2 HOURS” – Police Claim the McCanns buried Madeleine during a “missing two hours” in Spain.
Kate and Gerry are “shattered”.
Says the Sun:
“SUSPICIOUS the trip was postponed from the day before – because Gerry had intestinal problems.
“’STRANGE’” that the couple from Rothley, Leics, chose to visit Spain on a national holiday, when the shops were shut.
“MYSTERIOUS that the McCanns racked up ‘unjustified mileage’ in their Renault Scenic – hired 25 days after Maddie disappeared.”
A source says a new ad campaign to find Madeleine will start in two weeks.
DAILY MAIL page 3: “Police use CCTV to map McCanns trips.”
As newspaper Correio de Manha reports, Spanish police have given their Portuguese counterparts CCTV footage “showing the Renault Scenic in places in Spain where there was ‘no reason’ for the couple to be.”
A TV series based on Madeleine McCann is being produced in Chile. Says Chilean newspaper El Mercurio: “The case is becoming a soap opera.”
DAILY MIRROR front page: “KATE IS SO FRAGILE. Fears for mum after latest blow.”
Kate McCann’s face is all over the front page. “The anguish is plain to see.” A friend hears that Madeleine had not been found in Morocco: “Kate is so fragile. She’s suffering a devastating disappointment.”
Page 5: “They suffered a devastating blow with the false alarm in Morocco. Kate has crashed.”
“COPS PROBE SPAIN TRIP.”
DAILY STAR pages 6 and 7: “MADDIE DUMPED IN SPAIN.” An “exclusive”.
THE TIMES page 16: Mick Hume says: “The line between investigation and emotive entertainment has disappeared.”
THE TELEGRAPH page 6: “Portuguese focus on McCanns’ Spain trip” – Clarence Mitchell says the McCanns are innocent.
THE GUARDIAN and THE INDEPENDENT: no Madeleine news today.

203 - Gareth
I agree that there are many people who have hung drawn and quartered the McCanns without good reason. But I disagree that you can say all they did wrong was to leave the kids alone while they ate. You then go on to say it’s something many parents do while on holiday.
Frankly, I’ve never seen or know any parents that leave 3 under 4’s alone in a room while they go out to socialise - whether at home or abroad. That’s why people like me are so angry at their behaviour. We also think there are so many conflicting stories - whether from Portugal or the UK by way of family or press.
Had Gerry and Kate taken their kids with them to the Tapas Bar or stayed in the room, they’d have 3 kids today wouldn’t they?

looking around the news sites, it seems to me that promising interviews one minute, then using the ‘we can’t talk’ business to not have to participate in any, is nothing more than a cynical ploy.
we don’t mind being questioned, look at what we want to do, but the nasty PJ won’t let us.
well done clarence.

208 Peter O says “Not quite certain of the timeline in this case”
Well look at the sheets you were given in the Morning Meeting then.

TONY BENNETT:-
Thanks for the support and the bolstering my friend. Alas, the critics that are hurling the abuse are of no consequence. ‘PERHAPS’ is a lard-arsed, loud mouthed American who has had numerous user names and has been slung off the Forum at LEAST 5 times. Her opinion is of no consequence, as it is contrived to induce conflict, and I simply refuse to communicate with it/her.
I am happy to argue and deliberate my case with anyone, on the following simple understanding, that A/ the perso ahs at least SOME notion of what they are speaking about, and B/ they offer SOME evidence in support of their opinions.
It simply isn’t good enough to call me an ‘asshole’ and state that I’m talking B****ks without proferring counter evidence to the points I’m raising.
CHRISTOPH:
Nice to hear from you again, old friend. Where have you been. Yours has been one of the most rational, sane and intelligent voices on this Forum. Please post more often.

Hate Monger - I think we had one of those along the high street from the fish mongers and the iron mongers once.
Why no bread mongers? Or car mongers? Or, for that matter, love mongers.

If you assume the McCann’s are innocent of any wrongdoing in Madeleine’s disappearance – save any criticism of having left the children alone on that night – isn’t it just possible that the trip to Spain on August 3rd may have been perfectly innocent and an opportunity to just get away from the media attention and the ‘Team’ for a few hours?
Not quite certain of the timeline in this case, but by August 3rd wouldn’t the police already have been suspicious of the abduction theory and formed a ‘hunch’ that the McCann’s were not being entirely honest? That being the case, why on earth didn’t the police make it their business to know precisely where the McCann’s where at all times? Why raise it now?
Is there any reason why Gerry didn’t accompany Kate to the police station on the day before she was declared an aguido? The 11 hour questioning thing.
Regarding aguido status. Did I read correctly somewhere that someone who thinks they are suspected of some wrongdoing by the police can themselves request aguido status? If that is the case, do we know if the McCann’s requested that status or did the police request/inform of it? Surely if the McCann’s requested it this means they have effectively prevented the police from asking them certain questions? Why would they do that if they are innocent? Unless of course they are being stitched up by the police? (I don’t believe the latter, can’t prove it etc, just prefer not to believe it I guess!)
Asked yesterday, but didn’t get an answer… After KM allegedly said “They’ve taken HER” (Don’t know if that’s the correct literal quote, sorry.) What did the people in the Tapas Bar say? The logical response would be “WHO”, given that the McCann’s have two daughters?

It must be a bugger to buy a birthday cake on 3rd May with thousands of people having their birthday all at once…

200. But, at least, hate monger, I don’t hide behind it.
September 28th, 2007 at 1:28 pm
Karen, I am sick to death of all these posts where the majority of people have already hung drawn and quartered the McCanns. I was a policeman for 12 years, perhaps I am looking at this a little more sensibly than some of the posters here. You cannot believe all the crap coming out of Portugal…none of it…..its all speculation. Just imagine if the McCanns read this thread as innocent people……the whole world is against them and all they wrong was leave the children alone while they ate, something which many many parents do at some time during a holiday.

This place should have a health warning about addiction. GarageBand suddenly changes from full-screen to a smaller window with Anorak peeping around the side then as if by magic Anorak is on top…
I noticed that Eddie the Sniff is getting some comment and rightly so. Smart dog - can even write and post here too by the looks of it. Anyway if anyone doubts Eddie’s abilities I’ll post this link again about his “previous form” for those who missed it first time
http://www.breakingnews.ie/world/mhcwcwidkfsn/
I like the fact that he hangs around with (call me Christine) Keela - sounds like a bit of a sort…
Eddie for a knighthood, I say…

It is easy. No wonder it happens all the time. I don’t like it though. I prefer my real name, shame-laden as it is.
September 28th, 2007 at 1:27 pm
199 - Yes it’s nice and easy. How do I look?
September 28th, 2007 at 1:25 pm
I’m actually Karen. I’m testing to see how easy it is to change identity. Since everyone seems to be at it.
September 28th, 2007 at 1:25 pm
Niamh bet you do
September 28th, 2007 at 1:24 pm
I think Gareth and autie Phil
September 28th, 2007 at 1:23 pm
Gareth thank God for you. I swore I wouldn’t read this shit anymore but they’re very entertaining, especially the big essays. Even if they were right they’re still bonkers. Guys and girls, it’s Friday, you have a life somewhere - go and find it.
Right I’m DEFINITELY not reading it anymore.
September 28th, 2007 at 1:23 pm
183 ..Garth do you ever actually contribute anything other than childish bile ? Sigh.
Ignoring you and your verbal nonsense , this is a fascinating coverage of the links between the main players…..

this is rich, who is paying for all this then, and why dont they use the brill UK spies to find bin laden
September 28th, 2007 at 1:21 pm
183 Whatever you think of the portuguese police, they have been working with BRITISH officers since May. 55 officers were drafted in early in the investigation. Are you smearing their abilities as well?

facts 1, 2 and 3 seem to relate to a ‘possibility’ of blood being madelines.
in other words, theyre not facts.
i can’t be arsed to read the rest.
i think this guy should be restricted to 5 line posts, don’t know about the rest of you.
all he seems to be doing is saying the same thing over and over, and making the page take longer to load, and i, for one am getting fed up of it to the point it’s hardly worth bothering using the site anymore.
September 28th, 2007 at 1:17 pm
183. Gareth. What is the point of that post?
We’re not destroying them.
Seriously, are they really so weird that an internet forum will destroy them where a missing kid and being named suspects by the PJs wouldn’t?

180 Thank you Rosemary for the link which I am digesting now.
Yes of course it is entirely possible that the body in the Swiss case was put there after the canines did their search. Good point.
I have a lot of faith (based on given success rates) in canine detection having watched the development of the practice for many years. It really is one of the most interesting examples of the anthrozoologic relationship at the moment.

Please, whatever your opinions on this case, SEE this video by SPUDGUN. It asks some VERY important questions, but despite what its critics are saying, it does not distort the truth or accuse the McCanns of murder.
