Madeleine McCann: Spies, Richard Branson PI And Maddy TV
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE. SPY-IN-SKY PLAN TO FIND HER KIDNAPPER.”
So she was kidnapped. Wasn’t she?
“Satellite and aerial footage as well as internet traffic should be used to help the hunt,” say “intelligence experts”, including Professor Anthony Glees, Director of Brunel University’s Centre for Intelligence and Security Studies. Security is his thing.
Pages 4 and 5: “Riddle of the McCanns’ day out” – Why did the McCanns go to Spain on August 3 and what did they do there? Clarence Mitchell says the TV cameras and journalists tracked their every move.
“Branson: They are innocent” – Richard Branson PI calls it a “grotesque nightmare”. He has donated £100,000 to help the McCanns clear their name. He says the McCanns have “the weight and support of Britain behind them”.
THE SUN front page: “OUTRAGE AS COPS CLAIM MADDIE ‘BURIED IN SPAIN’.”
Pages 6 and 7: “POLICE PROBE LOST 2 HOURS” – Police Claim the McCanns buried Madeleine during a “missing two hours” in Spain.
Kate and Gerry are “shattered”.
Says the Sun:
“SUSPICIOUS the trip was postponed from the day before – because Gerry had intestinal problems.
“’STRANGE’” that the couple from Rothley, Leics, chose to visit Spain on a national holiday, when the shops were shut.
“MYSTERIOUS that the McCanns racked up ‘unjustified mileage’ in their Renault Scenic – hired 25 days after Maddie disappeared.”
A source says a new ad campaign to find Madeleine will start in two weeks.
DAILY MAIL page 3: “Police use CCTV to map McCanns trips.”
As newspaper Correio de Manha reports, Spanish police have given their Portuguese counterparts CCTV footage “showing the Renault Scenic in places in Spain where there was ‘no reason’ for the couple to be.”
A TV series based on Madeleine McCann is being produced in Chile. Says Chilean newspaper El Mercurio: “The case is becoming a soap opera.”
DAILY MIRROR front page: “KATE IS SO FRAGILE. Fears for mum after latest blow.”
Kate McCann’s face is all over the front page. “The anguish is plain to see.” A friend hears that Madeleine had not been found in Morocco: “Kate is so fragile. She’s suffering a devastating disappointment.”
Page 5: “They suffered a devastating blow with the false alarm in Morocco. Kate has crashed.”
“COPS PROBE SPAIN TRIP.”
DAILY STAR pages 6 and 7: “MADDIE DUMPED IN SPAIN.” An “exclusive”.
THE TIMES page 16: Mick Hume says: “The line between investigation and emotive entertainment has disappeared.”
THE TELEGRAPH page 6: “Portuguese focus on McCanns’ Spain trip” – Clarence Mitchell says the McCanns are innocent.
THE GUARDIAN and THE INDEPENDENT: no Madeleine news today.

Every time I see GM and KM I can’t help thinking they remind me of that w**ker who cheated to win “Who wants to be a millionaire?” and his scheming wife. On the Sky piece where they’re asked if Madeleine is still alive I like the delay in answering, almost composing the answer. These two have about as much emotion in them as Rutger Hauer’s character on Blade Runner; actually they’ve got less.

439 freezers and bodies
My suggestion of hiding a body in a freezer was not assuming they would use the apartment one. They could have used another one close by…

I posted this on the previous thread not noticing everyone had left! It’s a bit waffley but no time to improve upon it.
An idea based on the following press reports - sorry no links.
I can’t remember when the british dogs were first called in but I’m sure it was a while after Maddie disappeared. Could be the same time they sniffed the car which would be nearly or over one month later. With that in mind
Dogs picked up death scent in McCann’s apartment cupboard, car, on car keys on KM’s clothes
Dogs also picked up scent in nearby apartment and on another suspect’s clothes (yes I know, all “press” reports”)
A couple of people stayed behind to help the McCann’s- not sure for how long but three weeks or so comes to mind.
One of the Tapas9 claims to have seen Maddie at 7 oclock being put to bed on May 3rd.
Now if all of that is true, a big if I know, then the timeline between the last sighting of Maddie and the two hours needed between time of death and a dog being able to smell a cadaver becomes less unimportant.
Because If Maddie was removed and placed in another apartment, then brought back some time later, the smell of death would still be picked up.
To build a narrative around this:
Two of the Tapas9 hid Maddie’s body in their apartment on the night of her death where she remained while the police searched the McCann’s apartment until it was thought safe to bring her back into the apartment while they decided on a good hiding place
It then became crucial to completely dispose of the body around the time the two accomplaces had to leave to go back to the UK- the two that stayed behind
So Maddie’s body put in the boot by KM and GK or one of the accomplaces and Maddie and the evidence that could convict them destroyed somehow.
Just a thought…

Stevo– if you don’t get my point, you should really not be online passing yourself off as a detective.
September 28th, 2007 at 4:19 pm
431 - very gullible
You’re right….it is a waste of time dealing with flatearthers.
Poor old Galileo found that out to his cost too didn’t he? Oh yeah…and that was the Catholic Church that locked him up.
September 28th, 2007 at 4:19 pm
435. Ben. True. But you never know, that’s the point.
I don’t know why people have to post pure abuse about a post rather than debate it (I know I slagged off Maura, but she started it - I have never posted abuse without someone starting it first).
What’s wrong with a debate?

Oh god, and the latest theory… Not ONLY did they kill their daughter, cover it up, hide her body in a freezer (probably chopped to pieces, so it would fit better), and involve several of their closest friends, they also kept the body around for THREE MONTHS before burying it on August 3 in Spain. Yes. This seems SO much more likely than a random stranger abduction. It makes so much sense. Between Kate being so damn pretty, and the VERY SUSPICIOUS visit to Spain on August 3, well, by golly, they must be guilty. (Let’s see, the parents travel all over the world for months on end, but somehow their visit to Spain is suspicious???)
I do not know what planet you people live on. Really. I am, once again, absolutely flabbergasted at you people who think there is real evidence against the McCanns. If I have time later today, I’m going to have a go at that idiotic video Spudgun put out.
September 28th, 2007 at 4:18 pm
but theyre still guilty as sin.

Good lord! In that Martin Brunt Sky interview you have posted, when the McCanns are asked whether they think their daughter is still alive, they shake their heads!
It is less perceptible in G McC, coming across as a hesitation then an odd movement, but KMcC definitely SHAKES HER HEAD, all the time she is answering this question.
Anyway I had to watch them glad handing the crowds in order to get to that bit, which I could have done without.

as anyone emailed russell yet?
no one seems to conversating with him?

#436. At last the voice of reason.
September 28th, 2007 at 4:16 pm
420 stevo,
and somehow the sniffer dogs brought in the next day missed the freezer box. I can not believe that you actually think this is what happened.

In the middle of all your sarcasm, your point is?

I have many photos of my kids carrying their favourite toy. That’s because the toy was their favourite and they were inseparable from it. Like I say, why are there no photos (to my knowledge) of Madeleine with cuddle cat?
September 28th, 2007 at 4:15 pm
Yeah. Kate is so PRETTY. How dare she be pretty when her daughter is missing? And my god, she’s LOSING WEIGHT. How dare she be, not only pretty, but also THIN???! And TALL? GUILTY GUILTY GUILTY. She must have murdered her own daughter, if she’s not only PRETTY but also SKINNY AND TALL, and my god, that whole BLONDE thing? Beyond a shadow of a doubt. Tall, skinny, pretty blonde woman who don’t cry on our own emotional cues are OBVIOUSLY GUILTY OF MURDER.
September 28th, 2007 at 4:14 pm
425-
this is what i dont believe
the story of them disposing of a body with 9-10 or so people involved is too far fetched-
getting everybody to all pitch in and do there bit is ludicrous.
hollywood would have to soften the story to make it believable
September 28th, 2007 at 4:14 pm
Oh my god. It is! Scary.
September 28th, 2007 at 4:14 pm
come to think of it, unless a fact came from the judge, it’s hearsay.
and all the judge said is they have fuck all except suspicions.

I think cuddle cat is given more significance by Kate than necessary. When she was first asked about it, Kate said Madeleine slept with it or had it if she was ill. If it was the toy Madeleine kept with her at all times then why don’t we see pictures or video of Madeleine with it? I suspect Kate has exaggerated that because it looks good to be seen with it.

Stevo and others:
I think normal people should start just systematically ignoring the Flatearthers here.
It’s a complete waste of time indulging them, and about as pointless as trying to have a rational discussion with creationists, or deniers of global warming or the holocaust.
They have for some reason (a lot of them seem to be Catholics) an unshakeable FAITH in the good middle-class Catholic white doctors with their angelic blonde daughter, and reason and evidence are only allowed into the discussion insofar as it’s imagined they can be twisted to fit the Faith.
Just another case in point, the large reezer in apartment 5a:
http://www.bookmyvillas.com/viewphoto.asp?piccaption=Kitchen%20from%20lounge&picture=/photos/10002_6.jpg
…It’s visible through the entrance to the kitchen, on the right.
But frankly, why bother… you might as well just be banging your head against the wall.
Oh dear, better not mention banging heads against walls, though. All that blood…
Not NICE.

Bodies in freezers.
I wrote store the body in A freezer, not THE freezer in the apartment.
I countries blessed with warm climes it is not uncommon to have lots of freezers in lots of places. Some are quite big - chest freezers, for example…

418. Duly noted skyblue!
September 28th, 2007 at 4:10 pm
414. Where would they put the body? I just don’t see how they would dispose of her at night, in a place they don’t know that well, unless it was premeditated and there are easier ways of getting rid of a small kid, esp if you’re a doctor.
September 28th, 2007 at 4:10 pm
and even that seems to be unverified.
September 28th, 2007 at 4:10 pm
393 Very good Ian
reminds me of the phrase “the criminal classes”, popular in Shelock Holmes stories and in films made between the wars, I believe…
September 28th, 2007 at 4:10 pm
at the end of the day, the only facts anyone has are that kate mc cann made some crap conflicting statements before the pr men got in.
everything else is hearsay.

322. My understanding is that the recent change in Portuguese law relating to judicial secrecy allows for all the existing evidence against people named as aguidos to be brought into the public domain however, I read somewhere (I forget where) that this can only happen at the request of the aguidos themselves therefore, it seems the ball is in the McCanns court on that. Perhaps someone from Portugal can verify what the change means?
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2007/09/16/nmaddy116.xml
“The Portuguese law was officially changed yesterday but will not come into force until tomorrow, the first working day after the weekend. It could allow the McCanns access to investigators’ files, running to 4,000 pages, within days. The new law means that all suspects and third parties, including the media, will have access to police documents in any investigation - unless the public prosecutor decides that secrecy will benefit the inquiry or protect the rights of the accused. The prosecutor’s decision has to be ratified by a judge within 72 hours.”
