Madeleine McCann: Spies, Richard Branson PI And Maddy TV
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE. SPY-IN-SKY PLAN TO FIND HER KIDNAPPER.”
So she was kidnapped. Wasn’t she?
“Satellite and aerial footage as well as internet traffic should be used to help the hunt,” say “intelligence experts”, including Professor Anthony Glees, Director of Brunel University’s Centre for Intelligence and Security Studies. Security is his thing.
Pages 4 and 5: “Riddle of the McCanns’ day out” – Why did the McCanns go to Spain on August 3 and what did they do there? Clarence Mitchell says the TV cameras and journalists tracked their every move.
“Branson: They are innocent” – Richard Branson PI calls it a “grotesque nightmare”. He has donated £100,000 to help the McCanns clear their name. He says the McCanns have “the weight and support of Britain behind them”.
THE SUN front page: “OUTRAGE AS COPS CLAIM MADDIE ‘BURIED IN SPAIN’.”
Pages 6 and 7: “POLICE PROBE LOST 2 HOURS” – Police Claim the McCanns buried Madeleine during a “missing two hours” in Spain.
Kate and Gerry are “shattered”.
Says the Sun:
“SUSPICIOUS the trip was postponed from the day before – because Gerry had intestinal problems.
“’STRANGE’” that the couple from Rothley, Leics, chose to visit Spain on a national holiday, when the shops were shut.
“MYSTERIOUS that the McCanns racked up ‘unjustified mileage’ in their Renault Scenic – hired 25 days after Maddie disappeared.”
A source says a new ad campaign to find Madeleine will start in two weeks.
DAILY MAIL page 3: “Police use CCTV to map McCanns trips.”
As newspaper Correio de Manha reports, Spanish police have given their Portuguese counterparts CCTV footage “showing the Renault Scenic in places in Spain where there was ‘no reason’ for the couple to be.”
A TV series based on Madeleine McCann is being produced in Chile. Says Chilean newspaper El Mercurio: “The case is becoming a soap opera.”
DAILY MIRROR front page: “KATE IS SO FRAGILE. Fears for mum after latest blow.”
Kate McCann’s face is all over the front page. “The anguish is plain to see.” A friend hears that Madeleine had not been found in Morocco: “Kate is so fragile. She’s suffering a devastating disappointment.”
Page 5: “They suffered a devastating blow with the false alarm in Morocco. Kate has crashed.”
“COPS PROBE SPAIN TRIP.”
DAILY STAR pages 6 and 7: “MADDIE DUMPED IN SPAIN.” An “exclusive”.
THE TIMES page 16: Mick Hume says: “The line between investigation and emotive entertainment has disappeared.”
THE TELEGRAPH page 6: “Portuguese focus on McCanns’ Spain trip” – Clarence Mitchell says the McCanns are innocent.
THE GUARDIAN and THE INDEPENDENT: no Madeleine news today.

648 Stevo - We get what Gerry wants us to get. He has given the media a glimpse in their oh so normal daily life with the children - blow by blow from breakfast to nightie night bedtime stories. http://www.24dash.com/communities/20784.htm
Wouldn’t it be more appropriate for the McCanns to be in seclusion with their pain than this constant media show?
September 28th, 2007 at 6:24 pm
(331) I don’t know if anyone is Scottish - but basically seeking the limelight is one of thee most frowned upon things you could possibly do
Ain’t it the truth! Hee,hee, hee. I know! That’s why we love being Irish. We adore the limelight. Such a bunch of hams are we. We can act, sing, do a little Irish jig. Oh, and we’re brilliant writers, poets and mathematicians too. Our catsup is fab too! YUMMY.
So take it from the blarney, and don’t say baloney, a little bit of confidence never hurt anyone. You Scotties should stop the penny pinching ways and step up to the plate. Start to grow a spine like your fellow Celts.
I’m talking about those of us in the REAL Ireland. The South. Where the Catholics thrive. Not the British occupied North, ya hear me??

No, we’re not in Gilroy, although I’ve been there for the garlic festival (fun!). We grow mostly stiffneck garlics, because we’re much colder than California garlic country (where they grow softnecks). We’re not big garlic farmers, just truck-farmer type thing. GOURMET garlics. Ridiculous high prices. But as I said, my husband has a day job (middle school teacher).

Maura you come off as a nasty old biatch. As to Kate’s wardrobe and such, are you blind or do you think posh old lady clothes like you’d wear would be more appropriate. One thing that struck me from day one and each following day was how stylish she was in her vacation clothes, which were obviously expensive.
I haven’t commented here about their being guilty or not and I’m not going to now. I do know that I don’t like them and that has nothing to do with Madeleine. There’s something about them that turns me off and also the fact they seem to care more about themselves and their reputation than finding Madeleine furthers my repugnance of them.
Living in Portugal these days isn’t pleasant. Everyone is sick of the whole thing, especially the slagging of the Judiciary Police. I get really burned up when people who have no idea what this country is like talk about it like they’re experts. It’s something that has to be experienced and lived to make any sense. Even the expats who are trying to take it over, are clueless as to the culture and ways of thinking and doing things.
I have a friend in the states I spoke with on the phone yesterday and she said, “your cops are really bad!”. I told her not to believe anything she reads or sees on TV because it’s slanted and biased.
September 28th, 2007 at 6:20 pm
I”m also a fan of the blender theory. DeeDeeDee — excellent point! Who knows how we can get sniffer dogs down into the Portugese sewage system???
September 28th, 2007 at 6:20 pm
649 - krissie
So are you in California? I say that because I flew a plane from Gilroy one time and it was surrounded by garlic farms around there and another place I landed at - Hollister.
September 28th, 2007 at 6:20 pm
Where on earth do the Portuguese press get their crazy ideas?

630. Krissie I believe you.
As a journalist even though you couldn’t or shouldn’t write a biased piece what say you about the inconsistencies in the McCann statements? Have you no ideas on why no one has stepped forward with real information leading to Madeleine and then collecting the huge reward? What about DNA evidence in the car and the sniffer dogs indicating death in the apartment? And if the McCanns wish for less publicity then why don’t they just fade away and get rid of their PR team and do what other regular people do who have a missing child and look for that child without massive media coverage?
Their expensive strategy is obviously not working so you think they would try and do it the low income parent way?

It certainly explains his extravagance…the jets, the Pope, the trips to the USA etc. Narcissists expect the best and the top treatment at all times. It could explain why everything about them is over-the-top.
September 28th, 2007 at 6:18 pm
The only person I know with Narcissistic Personality Disorder lives in a hovel (maggots, no joke) and can’t hold down a job.
Oh, and as for those who think I’m also someone else, I can tell you my husband is NOT a powerful political lobbyist. He’s a teacher and a garlic farmer. Sorry. I, however, am indeed a journalist… not a high-powered one, though, and I quit my newspaper day job five years ago to care for my children, so now I”m one of those elusive “freelance writers” who doesn’t really cover anything of much importance (just food, cooking, knitting, family, you know…). But I am NOT Kara-whatever or Therapist (I am most certainly not a therapist, I could never stand to listen to people whine like that).

If Gerry is indeed a hardened person with NPD then it explains a lot. I can only speculate but if he is, then people have to understand it is a mental disorder - usually brought about by an abusive childhood. Do we know much about his parents?
September 28th, 2007 at 6:15 pm
Gerry’s quote on June 9:
“”More importantly, I don’t want to do that anymore. I want to be able to grieve and let those emotions out.”
yeah right…
September 28th, 2007 at 6:15 pm
#594 Stevo - NPD are frightful people inflicting misery on their family. My girlfriend’s father was one - fine giving person at church, loved by many, donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to the church, but at home - vile abuse and hate making his family jump at the click of his well polished expensive shoes. He died alone, not even his wife visited him on his death bed. I guess that was payback.
We simply can’t believe what we see in “public” as being indicitive of the “private” self.
What about the drugs found on Maddie’s hair strands? I wonder why the other children have not been tested for drugs in their systems?

460,
I did read your post and it was dumb.

I could fill a book with my experiences of a narcissist. When my father came with us on a 1 week holiday to Italy (I paid for his ticket from England and the hotel), he was a pain in the arse from the word go. On arrival in Italy he was going to pay for the car hire. He argued with the car company for half an hour because they were going to charge 8 days rental because it worked out as 7 days and 8 hours. He thought he was entitled to a 1 week rental. When he wouldn’t budge on the price and said he’d only pay for 7 days and said we’d use the bus for the last 8 hours, I paid the extra 40 Euros. No way was I going to prat about for a few hours lugging cases about because he was so adamant about only having/paying for the car for 7 days. The rest of the week with him was hell.

633. Yes they are world class manipulators thanks for mentioning this for that’s one of their greatest skills along with their charm.
And it is very true that those who know them best, sadly walk around them on eggshells but there is never any way to please them because they have a voracious appetite which can never be satiated.
People outside of these few would never believe the anguishing mental and sometimes physical cruelty an NPD individual believes is his/her diving right to subject the closest people to them with.
They have a clever way of brainwashing those closest to them. It’s very interesting to read about but horrific to experience first hand.
September 28th, 2007 at 6:11 pm
Lilith, by the way, nothing has made me laugh so much as your comment. NICE one. I mean, afterall, they DID say that O’Brien’s child was vomiting?? Maybe she was really far more ill than they admit? Maybe they knew the child needed a new liver RIGHT NOW and so the McCanns — with their “hysterical” and “disabled” (colomba/ charge syndrome) daughter decided to sell their daughter’s organs to their friend, to save their living/healthy/normal daughter? I mean, afterall, they are medical doctors and know the importance of organ donation — why simply overdose your child when you can overdose her AND sell her organs to a worthy cause!?
Besides, didn’t anyone notice how Gerry’s eye twitched in that interview when the interviewer asked him whether he had any plans to return to his surgery job and he said not yet? Obviously he was lying… he planned to be transplanting his own daughter’s liver into his friend’s daughter’s body!! I know a liar when I see one . His body language was soooo obvious.

It was reported ages ago that Gerry McCann had noticed the bedroom door open which he thought was odd because he thought they’d closed it when they went out. I suspect he’s wondered all along, since Madeleine’s disappearance, if the abductor/intruder was already in the apartment when he checked the children at 9.05pm. This last thing has been reported recently in the UK press. (I have a vague memory of reading about it somewhere before. However, nobody else seems to remember that bit so I could be wrong. It might just have been something I wondered about myself given the timings in the paper. I remember talking to a friend about it.) The reports are/were that he just assumed she’d gone to the toilet or for a drink or into their room and then left the door open when she went back to bed.
You won’t find it on video, I think. They themselves have always been very careful about not speaking about “details of the investigation”. The door thing must have “leaked” out all those weeks ago and then again just recently.
There was talk in the papers right from the very beginning about the windows and shutters being tampered with but I don’t think the details have ever been very clear. Someone else may have a link back to the early reports of this though. I’d be interested if so.

I am beginning to find Stevo’s family history more interesting than the McCann case! (Really - I mean that!)
Shall we start a new thread?

We know that the lie detector is not accepted by Portuguese authorities, so the McCann don’t want to be submitted to a test”, Clarence Mitchell, the former Media Monitoring Unit director and spokesman for Gerry and Kate McCann told, yesterday, to Portuguese daily “24 Horas”. The newspaper asked if the McCann were willing to take a lie detector test, organized and sponsored by the newspaper.Hot of the wires.

599. Sharon I agree to a point with you but any detective is going to brainstorm when dealing with such a perplexing case and when you have suspects so wiley and changing their stories so frequently it’s difficult to keep you head straight.
I am more than happy to be completely wrong. But how do we explain where Madeleine is? Why hasn’t there been any credible evidence of an intruder who snatched Madeleine? Why every time the police bring up something the McCanns magically have an answer?…..
PJ:We found Madeleine’s DNA in the car boot.
McC: Oh that’s simply DNA transfer plus the godfather of DNA fingerprinting will vouch for us.
PJ: Did you check on your children every 30 minutes?
McC: Of course we did! Not even being enebriated from all the wine or our want of winning the quiz game could stop us from following through on our very efficient childcare drink-eat-and-sitter-from the-garden system. Sometimes I looked in on all the kids. BY “looked in” I really mean I didn’t “look in” but instead listened through the wall to hear if they had woken up. Russell did the same. Jane loved making the rounds because she has an imaginary friend she likes to talk to whilst walking about in the fresh sea air. Oh but grandmamma does bring up a good point we didn’t look in on one another’s children only our own. I did look in once and didn’t see Madeleine but I had a really nice rioja waiting for me and was afraid David was going to down it so I rushed back to our “garden”. Of course my memory, like Jane’s can become better and far more nuanced as time goes by. And it was probably more like every 45 or 60 minutes that we checked on our children. After all we didn’t want to wake them.

#594 Stevo. Narcissistic Personality Disorder. I agree with everything that you say about this, and Anonymous’s response. I too have sadly had first hand, medically diagnosed, experience of this in my family - with children involved. It is really terrible the depths to which people with NPC will go to satisfy their own desires. And, like psychopaths, they feel no remorse or guilty.
I am sorry to hear that you have had to experience a relationship with someone with NPD. I think dealing NPD is the closest I have come to dealing with pure evil.
And before anyone accuses me of anything - I am NOT suggesting the McCanns are either psychopaths or have NPD. It is simply to acknowledge and sympathise the experience of a fellow poster.
September 28th, 2007 at 6:05 pm
595. Stevo :”Narcissists are awful people.”
Definitely!!!!
Here is my experience with a narcissist:
He’s highly intelligent, charming, has a well-paid job, and is well respected and loved by the community because he would go out of his way to support and help anyone. But then he would go home and emotionally, verbally, and physically abuse his kids and wife. Nobody would believe the victims because he’s such a “wonderful” and “nice” guy who is very “lovely” and “helpful” to everyone in the community. The victims would be labeled as crazy for accusing such a “wonderful” man of such abuse and cruelty. The narcissist is very good at manipulating people in believing that he’s the innocent one and the people who accuse him of any bad doing are the crazy ones.
Usually, normal people won’t believe and understand the victims. Only the ones who have gone through hell with a person with NPD know what it’s like to live with a N.

Stevie-O, holy moly, what is your problem?? I’m making very rational arguments, I’m not YELLING ALL THE TIME like I was the other day (I think it was Wednesday when I got all riled up), I’m challenging what I see as your faulty assumptions, and you’re calling me an idiot? I’m an idiot for suggesting that we reserve judgment on the McCanns until there is REAL evidence in the case, not just “anonymous sources within the PJ.”???
I haven’t seen a single clear, intelligent post from you so far, just a lot of hackles raised and defending your position and making some truly bizarre assertions. So I don’t know what your problem is. What’s funny is, I’m not even a pro-McCann, I’m just an Anti-Irrational. I don’t like all this crazy jumping to conclusions. I think it’s profoundly harmful and mean-spirited.
I thought Lilith’s point about the organ selling was an excellent one!! She is making a really clear point. (I rather like it better than my idea of the space alien abduction.

No, really, there’s just me!! I have never registered under any other name on Anorak, just Krissie, and I’m sure the moderation guy can confirm it. You guys just don’t want to believe there are so many rational people out here challenging your huge lapses in critical thinking and judgment! However, Krissie is not my real name.

Just watched the U-Tube video by Supdgun. Well done, especially liked the bit - “We didn’t want to leave them with strangers.” Also, I had heard that Kate is now claiming she knew that Maddie was kidnapped and did not wander off because Cuddle Cat was put up too high, higher than a child could reach, and that means a stranger did it and not Madeleine. Or Mommy and Daddy did it while removing Maddie’s body, putting it up high out of harms way???? The spin this crew comes up with is amazing.
