Madeleine McCann: Spies, Richard Branson PI And Maddy TV
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE. SPY-IN-SKY PLAN TO FIND HER KIDNAPPER.”
So she was kidnapped. Wasn’t she?
“Satellite and aerial footage as well as internet traffic should be used to help the hunt,” say “intelligence experts”, including Professor Anthony Glees, Director of Brunel University’s Centre for Intelligence and Security Studies. Security is his thing.
Pages 4 and 5: “Riddle of the McCanns’ day out” – Why did the McCanns go to Spain on August 3 and what did they do there? Clarence Mitchell says the TV cameras and journalists tracked their every move.
“Branson: They are innocent” – Richard Branson PI calls it a “grotesque nightmare”. He has donated £100,000 to help the McCanns clear their name. He says the McCanns have “the weight and support of Britain behind them”.
THE SUN front page: “OUTRAGE AS COPS CLAIM MADDIE ‘BURIED IN SPAIN’.”
Pages 6 and 7: “POLICE PROBE LOST 2 HOURS” – Police Claim the McCanns buried Madeleine during a “missing two hours” in Spain.
Kate and Gerry are “shattered”.
Says the Sun:
“SUSPICIOUS the trip was postponed from the day before – because Gerry had intestinal problems.
“’STRANGE’” that the couple from Rothley, Leics, chose to visit Spain on a national holiday, when the shops were shut.
“MYSTERIOUS that the McCanns racked up ‘unjustified mileage’ in their Renault Scenic – hired 25 days after Maddie disappeared.”
A source says a new ad campaign to find Madeleine will start in two weeks.
DAILY MAIL page 3: “Police use CCTV to map McCanns trips.”
As newspaper Correio de Manha reports, Spanish police have given their Portuguese counterparts CCTV footage “showing the Renault Scenic in places in Spain where there was ‘no reason’ for the couple to be.”
A TV series based on Madeleine McCann is being produced in Chile. Says Chilean newspaper El Mercurio: “The case is becoming a soap opera.”
DAILY MIRROR front page: “KATE IS SO FRAGILE. Fears for mum after latest blow.”
Kate McCann’s face is all over the front page. “The anguish is plain to see.” A friend hears that Madeleine had not been found in Morocco: “Kate is so fragile. She’s suffering a devastating disappointment.”
Page 5: “They suffered a devastating blow with the false alarm in Morocco. Kate has crashed.”
“COPS PROBE SPAIN TRIP.”
DAILY STAR pages 6 and 7: “MADDIE DUMPED IN SPAIN.” An “exclusive”.
THE TIMES page 16: Mick Hume says: “The line between investigation and emotive entertainment has disappeared.”
THE TELEGRAPH page 6: “Portuguese focus on McCanns’ Spain trip” – Clarence Mitchell says the McCanns are innocent.
THE GUARDIAN and THE INDEPENDENT: no Madeleine news today.

I’m just answering posts…99% of my posts are answers. But yes, you’re right it is a satirical site to do with the McCanns.
On that topic, I’ve said many times I’m surprised that friends of the McCanns haven’t come forward with their stories to tell the press how good or bad they are. I’d have expected plenty of character witnesses to have come forward by now. Some of the videos of Madeleine (the tribute ones made with photos) have got other children on them. Where are the parents of those kids? Surely they can come forward and give us an insight into the McCanns.

Hi Carmen. Still here but Gotham City TV network has the England-Tonga rugby match on now, so I might just go off for a while and see what the state of play is.

770 Stevo - The only benefit of having an NPD parent is that I can spot this horrible personality disorder in people much earlier than those who have had a relatively normal childhood. It is frightening how many people have NPD. Anyway, I don’t want to piss off Carmen with our on line experiences, so if you want to exchange email addresses then I would appreciate communicating with someone who has been through this experience.

760. I would be very interested. I came very close to blogging about it last year but stopped because when I study NPD a lot I have terrible nightmares about my ex. What makes things even worse is that he made up very cruel stories about me to justify our breaking up. I found out from a friend he is very involved in a British tarot card group (TABI) and astrological groups and other “new age” crap. He uses this angle now to try and attract unsuspecting kind-hearted women I am certain of it. He used to get really pissed off at me because I don’t believe in astrology and he would brag about how he can predict things by casting a chart and a whole host of other bull shit.

Yes they did, and there were journalists on board the plane with them. Makes a lot of sense like the rest of this freezer dismemberment tripe - here your holiness, could you get someone to handle this small problem for us.

You know nothing about me. I was raised by my dad from day 1 - my step-dad. I never knew my biological father so couldn’t harbour any feelings or thoughts about who he was until I was an adult and knew about him. You need to poke your nose someplace else.

764. Very! If I were in Portugal we probably would have had to make a day trip by now. Not to be gawkers. I still don’t feel satisfied at the measurement given from their apartment to the tapas bar. Also, I would like to find out if any of the staff are talking. I’ve heard some things like someone else mentioned a little earlier that on the previous night they were a good mile away from the apartment and had left the children alone that evening and all evenings prior to Madeleine disappearing. Another story was how the Mark Warner staff were so concerned about the McCanns and their friends leaving the children alone at night was so disturbing to them they reminded the Mccanns of the services they offered but the McCann’s declined.
When I went back a few weeks ago to find these articles they were no where to be found. I also tried to find a piece from The Telegraph which was the very first critically written news item I had ever read coming from the British press but still cannot find it.
Yes it is beautiful here.
Where are you in the States?

Let me work on it and keep watching in here. I’ll post a link once I get the domain/site up.

1. My son has NPD. For some time I have had the ’something familiar here’ feeling following video and statements, but thought it was just me.
Through secret support groups I know other people with NPD types in their families (it’s handy to know someone who understands exactly what it’s like to live with these NPD-ers. The best bit of the support is that the NPD-er (who believes they know everything and are invincible) actually has no idea you have these other people in your life.
I haven’t mentioned to any of the other people surviving NPD family members / partners about the ’something familar here’ sense…. guess it’s not the sort of thing you say. Mostly we talk tactics to outwit these people. Because they do believe they are the best at everything they sometimes make audacious mistakes. They also revel in beating the system - my son almost turned himself inside out with joy when he conned the police over an assault case and got away scot free, They can be incredibly believable unless the mask slips. They would believe they could pass a lie detector test, anytime any place,…. so they probably would.
Incredibly, this son said to me: “Well if I had a little kid’s body to get rid of I’d probably bring it home in front of everybody in a well-sealed suitcase. Who’s gonna check the bags of any of you? – bet it’s upgrades and special whisking through airports all the way.”

I don’t mind discussing McCannformation but there’s not been much this afternoon. Start something and we can comment on it. NPD is something a lot believe may be something Gerry has.

Batman, yes. The thing is, I can’t see the McCanns allowing Clarence to make false statements of FACT that might come up if there were ever a trial.
And actually, yes, CNN is mostly just covering the basics. Girl disappeared. Parents accuse kidnapper. Police accuse parents. The end. (I think they might have reported the Morocco story). And in truth, that is all the reliable information we have on the case. In terms of the evidence/police beliefs, they (CNN) have only reported evidence that the McCanns have confirmed in some way. I think we can all agree on a few things the McCanns said the PJ said which are probably true (ie, offering a plea deal, SOME type of evidence in the car and/orapartment, even if we have no clue what it was or how solid it was, etc). These are things that came out in Portugese papers coming from PJ that the McCanns confirmed. There’s a lot of other stuff that is just rumor. So what this boils down to– and what my point is, mainly — is that ALL of this is wild speculation and I find it really bizarre.

Like you and others in here describing the hell, until you are a victim of it nobody can really understand it. It’s so subtle in many cases and they appear so charming to others that it’s almost impossible to describe the problem.
My father introduced me to his neighbour in San Diego in 2001. He was a minister in a church and had the most wonderful family. He was a saintly man and so likeable. Months later my father didn’t have anything to do with him and he told me this man was a drug dealer using his church as a front.
About a year later I bumped into this minister in a grocery store. He told me that my father had gone to his house one day and because his wife didn’t invite him in because she was on her way out, he cut them off because he felt it was rude to not invite him in even though she was going out any minute. He invented this drug dealer story as a way to cover that he had cut them out of his circle.
Nasty and vicious people…awful.

754. With all due respect it was my idiotic unconditionally loving unconditionally forgiving heart which placed me in danger again and again with my NPD special guy. So please unless you have had the experience yourself I don’t believe you are qualified. I am sorry but your cliché that forgiveness leads to freedom is so wrong. It is good common sense to NOT forgive completely and NOT to mindlessly forget. So that when and if you ever encounter such outright evil again you will know it and get away as quickly as possible.

I know Puglia. I was in Brindisi in 2005. I noticed there’s a place called Apulla in Tuscany and there’s a town called Apulia in Portugal. Ironic as we’re discussing the McCanns.

758 - Portia.
I agree. It’s all so heartbreaking and sad for Madeleine’s sake. Must leave now.
September 28th, 2007 at 7:51 pm
Stevo and Anonymous - It is good to know that there are other people who understand how draining it is to live with someone who has NPD. I remember when my mum’s sister had, had a terrible head injury. She eneded up having brain surgery three times. I was working in Sheffield at the time and dashed to the hospital in Manchester to visit my Aunt, knowing that it was possibly going to be the last time I would see her. When I got to the neuro ICU, I was distraught to see my beloved Aunt in a coma, ventilated and so helpless. My NPD mother was there and the first thing she said to me was, ‘Hasn’t my hair gone white with the stress’. Still beggers belief even now. Incidentally, my Aunt recovered and has very minimal disability and has such an appreciation for life after having gone through such a trauma.

Well here we go again, crazily judging people based on their mannerisms (he touched his nose, he MUST be guilty!). I saw that same video and interestingly, I thought the exact opposite…. I thought Kate was so emotional in the face of that question that she couldn’t even hardly speak. I took the shaking of the heads not to mean “no we dont’ think she is alive” (DUH) but “how can you even ask that question?”
Interpretations of people’s mannerisms/ facial expressions /public displays of emotions is not a good way to judge guilt or innocence. It says more about YOU than it says about the people you are judging.

I’ve always contemplated setting up a domain and site for victims of an NPD abuser. Talking it through with other victims helped me. Once it was identified, I was staggered that all the stories were so similar and then I knew I wasn’t the only one. I’d really set one up if there was enough interest.
September 28th, 2007 at 7:48 pm
750 - You are so very right. I took notes as I watched the video - yes the enjoying themselves caused me to pause.
Poor Madeleine. I hope she gets justice. At least she has quite a few advocates that are on her side - let the shoe fall where it may!

To me, in said interview they express a confidence that I can’t understand in any way except that they were having much success in their grand cover-up.
September 28th, 2007 at 7:47 pm
I see Clarence is trying to shut the Portuguese press up now - as well as the UK press. I wondered when that would happen.
Funny how the Mccanns are allowed to leak all kinds of crap and altered stories.
The more they try to stifle free speech the more I suspct them, Clarence really isnt helping them - does he seriously think he can stifle the worlds press?
Its a bit scary that the British Government employed the idiot Clarence - not exactly high calibre is he.
September 28th, 2007 at 7:46 pm
#736 - krissie. You are perfectly entitled to believe that CNN are only reporting official statements. If this is so, then they must hardly ever mention the Madeleine case because official statements from the PJ are rare. I am not sure what you regard as an ‘official statement’ from the McCanns. Certainly the statements made by the PR spokesman are, imho, usually based on fabrication and contradictory to previous official statements.
However, we can agree to differ as to what we consider reliable information.
September 28th, 2007 at 7:46 pm
747. No not Portugal. Apulia/Puglia is a region in southern Italy. Maybe they sound the same but are spelled differently?
September 28th, 2007 at 7:46 pm
741 - Nope - Queen does it for me better. The Eagles “lyin’ eyes” song is about cheating at romance. Cheatin’ on a lover.
Both are about morality but only one is about mortality.
Wanted to also say, I’ve been paying close attn to your posts. I feel that you are in a lot of pain about your Father’s abandonment of you. I would suggest psychotherapy. I say this with the utmost caring and respect. When we forgive, we are free. Until then, we are prisoners. Forgiveness is the hardest thing for human beings to struggle with. Therapy helps a great deal in the healing process and in facilitating this. Think about it. Do it for yourself. Be kind to yourself. It is not narcississtic to take care of number one. It’s common sense.
