Madeleine McCann: Spies, Richard Branson PI And Maddy TV
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE. SPY-IN-SKY PLAN TO FIND HER KIDNAPPER.”
So she was kidnapped. Wasn’t she?
“Satellite and aerial footage as well as internet traffic should be used to help the hunt,” say “intelligence experts”, including Professor Anthony Glees, Director of Brunel University’s Centre for Intelligence and Security Studies. Security is his thing.
Pages 4 and 5: “Riddle of the McCanns’ day out” – Why did the McCanns go to Spain on August 3 and what did they do there? Clarence Mitchell says the TV cameras and journalists tracked their every move.
“Branson: They are innocent” – Richard Branson PI calls it a “grotesque nightmare”. He has donated £100,000 to help the McCanns clear their name. He says the McCanns have “the weight and support of Britain behind them”.
THE SUN front page: “OUTRAGE AS COPS CLAIM MADDIE ‘BURIED IN SPAIN’.”
Pages 6 and 7: “POLICE PROBE LOST 2 HOURS” – Police Claim the McCanns buried Madeleine during a “missing two hours” in Spain.
Kate and Gerry are “shattered”.
Says the Sun:
“SUSPICIOUS the trip was postponed from the day before – because Gerry had intestinal problems.
“’STRANGE’” that the couple from Rothley, Leics, chose to visit Spain on a national holiday, when the shops were shut.
“MYSTERIOUS that the McCanns racked up ‘unjustified mileage’ in their Renault Scenic – hired 25 days after Maddie disappeared.”
A source says a new ad campaign to find Madeleine will start in two weeks.
DAILY MAIL page 3: “Police use CCTV to map McCanns trips.”
As newspaper Correio de Manha reports, Spanish police have given their Portuguese counterparts CCTV footage “showing the Renault Scenic in places in Spain where there was ‘no reason’ for the couple to be.”
A TV series based on Madeleine McCann is being produced in Chile. Says Chilean newspaper El Mercurio: “The case is becoming a soap opera.”
DAILY MIRROR front page: “KATE IS SO FRAGILE. Fears for mum after latest blow.”
Kate McCann’s face is all over the front page. “The anguish is plain to see.” A friend hears that Madeleine had not been found in Morocco: “Kate is so fragile. She’s suffering a devastating disappointment.”
Page 5: “They suffered a devastating blow with the false alarm in Morocco. Kate has crashed.”
“COPS PROBE SPAIN TRIP.”
DAILY STAR pages 6 and 7: “MADDIE DUMPED IN SPAIN.” An “exclusive”.
THE TIMES page 16: Mick Hume says: “The line between investigation and emotive entertainment has disappeared.”
THE TELEGRAPH page 6: “Portuguese focus on McCanns’ Spain trip” – Clarence Mitchell says the McCanns are innocent.
THE GUARDIAN and THE INDEPENDENT: no Madeleine news today.

Krissie - didn’t you have some VERY IMPORTANT small ads to copy-edit for the local paper?

Tears before bedtime.
Oh dear, looks to me like we need the McCanns here to put some people to bed.
September 28th, 2007 at 9:35 pm
868- Neither. I watched the whole media show go down, never really made up my mind, but was not surprised the jury exonerated him. I didn’t follow that case so closely as this one, however, due to the limitations at the time of the Internet.

849 - I think Narcissists are generally the worst out of the two stevo, but there are so many crossover points between the two that it is sometimes difficult to tell them apart.
My mother is BPD, and extremely hard work - I deal with it by keeping her at arms length and only meeting with her on neutral territory very occasionally. A lot of dealing with them is learning to detach … part of the problem is that long term partners of either tend to be Co-Dependant and re-inforce their behaviours by riding the rollercoaster with them and thus feeding their desire to be centre of the universe. It took me 2 years of therapy and a lot of self help groups to learn how to get off the ride! LOL

Regarding the earlier posts about body fluids, PJ “knowing” she is dead, etc- surely forensic tests can detect the chemical changes of decomposition? Even without a body, IF they actually do have evidence of this nature then they can prove M is dead if it matches her DNA. Even if they recover a body it does’nt prove who killed her and after this long it may be impossible to determine how she died-she could have been disposed of by the abductor(if there is one).

I can’t validate these comments, as I’ve just come across them on The Daily Express forum, but thought they’d make interesting reading/debate for some people!
SO MANY COINCIDENCES

Nanny, Charlotte Pennington grew up in New Zealand. She was also an actress, using the stage name Charlotte Whighton.
(Didn’t Kate & Gerry live in New Zealand?)
Clara Torres, taker of the notorious Moroccan picture, attended medical school in Amsterdam at the same time that Gerry McCann was working there.
(And her husband lived in Groby, the next village to the McCanns, in Leicestershire.)
Could this plot get any thicker?

Molly- what is your source for proving Gerry got a haircut on May 4? And for the chatting with people without mentioning it? If these things are irrefutably true– which I doubt– I would probably have to agree it’s bizarre and appalling. H owever, I would repeat: Prove these things to me. Except, wait, don’t bother, because I’m going away now.

Krissie,
I wonder what you thought of the first OJ Simpson trial? Did you discuss your outrage with others? Did you have suspicions OJ was guilty? Did you continue to discuss your disbelief, confusion, anger about how the trial went? How the jury apparently ignored significant evidence? Did your opinions somehow influence the jury? Or did you believe OJ was innocent or since he was declared innocent you believed the jury’s verdict?
September 28th, 2007 at 9:27 pm
826 - Krissie, I’m just not convinced that that is true… the UK papers have resolutely refused to print anything negative (in terms of personality) about the McCanns at all. I don’t care WHO someone is, there are always going to be people who dislike them, and yet not one negative story about the McCanns?
Let me tell you a couple of McCann stories that come from direct sources whom I trust - first hand stories, not rumour or from forums.
The 4th May.. the day after Madeleine went missing - Gerry went for a haircut.
4th May - later in the day … Kate and Gerry were at a beach cafe with the twins, chatting to people without even mentioning Madeleine having gone missing
And no - of course neither proves either guilt or innocence, but it does give a very strange picture, which leads me to conclude that they are very cold people (as a lot of medical personnel that I have met in my life have been).
I do not subscribe to the idea that the McCanns cold bloodedly murdered Madeleine - but I do think that IF an accidental death occurred, which might (perhaps because of sedation) have had a detrimental effect on their careers, then people who are this cool and analytical might decide that (as nothing would change the fact that their child had died) they might do best to cover the death up and pretend she had been abducted. It doesn’t seem far fetched to me, more like an instinctive self protection.

“nice to exchange chatter with the normal ones”
Anyone remember the Bonzo Do Doo Dah Band’s song, We are normal?
“We are normal and we want our freedom
We are normal and we dig Bert Weedon, ha ha!”
With all this stuff about NPD, BPD, LAPD, Auntie Philly, katiefruitcake, scarygerry and God knows what else I’m beginning to wonder if anyone in this circus is normal…
September 28th, 2007 at 9:27 pm
I think the McConners practicly control the media.
A few days ago I saw a storyline about Hotlips Healy’s drunk and promiscuous behaviour in college.(I think it was in the DailyMail or the Mirror)
When I wanted to read at an hour later it was GONE.
I wonder why the Portugese newspapers have such a total different outlook on this case.
September 28th, 2007 at 9:27 pm
849 Stevo. I vote for NPD being worse because these people have 100% belief that everything they do is right and anyone who stands up to them is wrong. Therefore they can be merciless bullies and the moment you say ‘enough is enough’ they will declare YOU the bully and harrasser. They are generally very intelligent, articulate and superb actors.
BPD people have some traits in common with the above - for instance both are relentlessly manipulative – but now and again catch themselves on in their better moments and try for treatment. Appalling as their behaviour is, BPD’s are often a bit of a train crash, with suicide attempts.
NPD’S are more likely to make you feel like topping yourself. The best (I mean worst) of them can actually have you thinking “Well, is it me?” They say it’s you who needs the doctor, because, of course, they are never going themselves.

I get the feeling the those of us that question the McCanns are more concerned about Madeleine, that she has an advocate, so we are willing to look at the players and the evidence that we know or have been given to date - and question and pause and discuss. So what?
I researched kidnapping statistics of children under 5 and most mishaps are the result of family and friends than from strangers. The statistics are very enlightening. So considering the possibility of the McCanns being guilty is in the range of normal ordinary possibilities.
This is about Madeleine - not about the McCanns. Yes, public scrutiny is difficult They are not in seclusion living a private life. Their hat is in the ring and we are interested in this case. So one talks about it and blogs about it. Maybe the truth will come out and someome somewhere will remember something important and the truth of what happened to Madeleine will be known. I hope so.
None of this is about hurting the McCanns. It is about knowing the truth of what happened to Madeleine. It is for Madeleine.

Evening show? I’ve been on here for four HOURS!! And what have I said that makes me a lunatic? Please explain yourself. I’m so confused. So far as I can tell, I’m one of the only rational people on here, not jumping to any conclusions whatsoever, saying we should stop trying to solve a missing child case based on bad reporting. How does this make me a lunatic??
I’m starting to think all of you have NPD. For sure. Of course, I’ve got a really bad case of OCD, myself… NO REALLY I’M GOING NOW.
September 28th, 2007 at 9:24 pm
854. Krissie,
I’ve agreed with many of your very insightful comments. I have no idea who you really are but your personality seems to drastically change from comment to comment. You seemed to have gotten really angry at Stevo asking you if you could please offer a few sources for the dozens of character witnesses you claim you’ve read or seen on tv coming forward in support of the McCanns.
No hard feelings about my having some doubts as to who you were because in truth your personality at times did come off like this poster who I’ve only had the displeasure of meeting very late at night but I think it was always on Friday. Apologies for the misunderstanding.

The Real Stig: Hear hear!! Yay! Someone of my own mindset.
I’d add this caveat: I do defend their legal right to say these things, however despicable we may find it, however much damage it does. I believe in free speech, absolutely, even hate speech. I don’t think we should censor it. However, it is despicable and these people will, I believe, someday be rather ashamed of their behavior. It reminds me of witch hunts or something, this weird human tendency to JUMP all over the first person who can be blamed..> I read an article a while back about how human nature requires that, when faced with this kind of tragedy, we instantly need to find a way to distance ourselves from the people to whom the tragedy happened, to reassure ourselves that such a horrible thing could not ever happen to US. Therefore, we have attacked the McCanns (rather viciously) for leaving their children, for not behaving in a way we consider “proper” for parents of missing children, for paying too much attention to their hair, for going jogging, for wearing makeup , for carrying a stuffed toy … and we extrapolate it all and accuse them of cold-blooded MURDER … and then we take it even farther and accuse them of HEINOUS crimes (chopping up their child into bits) without ANY evidence whatsoever. It’s downright bizarre.
No, really , OK, I”m leaving (for today) but surely I will be back Monday or Tuesday to play my broken record again, and again, and again…

Really, though, keep it to yourself, what what!!!
September 28th, 2007 at 9:20 pm
Stevo,
Yes maybe the others were spot on and Krissie is the very same lunatic who usually arrives on Anorak’s evening show. She also had a split personality.
The Big Stig I have listened to many a time. Ahhhhh what pleasure. I imagine he lives in an English country house wears a bowler, a vest with pocket watch and collects newspapers, tin cans and balls of twine. Sex happened once or twice and he thought it utterly boring (well sex with women anyway).
I think even with his disgust of the feminine he might get on very well with Moderation and her big early morning hard copy.
September 28th, 2007 at 9:18 pm
I have a terrible temper? Well who knew! I’ll have to go warn my dear husband.
But you’re right, I would have a hard time interviewing the McCanns in a public way (but an easy time if I could do it without any camera there– oh I’d LOVE that). I’m not that type of journalist, anyway — I don’t cover crime (anymore). But it’s not the type of thing I do– personalities, on camera. I’m more the investigative type, newspapers and never TV or radio. I have no idea why you guys keep lumping all the people who diagree with you together, trying to turn us all into one person…. hmm… Curious.
I don’t know who this Moderation person is- I thought it was the Anorak Moderator and I thought it was a person who was on the McCanns are Guilty Bandwagon. But anyway. I’m done for now, personally- I’ve been off and on here for like four hours now. Good god. Talk about personality disorder-this is getting sick. I Have to stop. I have work to finish that should have been done, hmm, three hours ago now.

That was my thinking that a mother would look at the Camera tell Maddie how much she is dealy loved and missed and that mommy will keep looking until mommy finds you.
And the tears, oh there would be tears even after 100 days and probably after 100 years.

“Consider, for a moment, the possibility that they are NOT guilty. Can you imagine what level of horror and evil you are contributing to, then?”
You are quite correct. A lot of people here seem to think they became fair game the second the PJ questioned them and made them suspects. There was a very widespread feeling then that ‘they must be guilty, the PJ wouldn’t have done that unless they had something on them.’
Of course they had nothing of the sort. It was a damn slick trick on the part of the PJ. It both diverted attention from their incomprehensible ineptitude while giving them a convincing reason to stop pursuing the abduction theory, which is quite frankly a far too highly skilled and laborious task for them to carry out. Unfortunately that avenue of investigation is probably closed to them because of the initial screw ups.
I think people on here generally do not comprehend the harm they are doing the McCanns with words. Either that, or worse, they don’t care. Somehow the Internet creates for them a magical license to attack the McCanns on a very personal and disgusting level and exonerates them of any moral requirement of self restraint.
They will also be the first to bitch if there are latter calls to impose legal regulation on the freedoms they are so happily and casually abusing. I think it’s called shitting in your own nest.
“No, ’tis slander, Whose edge is sharper than the sword, whose tongue Outvenoms all the worms of Nile, whose breath Rides on the posting winds and doth belie All corners of the world. Kings, queens. and states, Maids, matrons, nay, the secrets of the grave This viperous slander enters.”

846 - Molly
I learned of BPD and knew a nurse in Newcastle who was on a ward full of BPD patients. That’s another nasty ailment…and brought on through abuse (usually). I don’t know which is worse…the black/white world of the BPD or the control freakish NPD.

841. Hondemburst burst all over from Krissie’s wild minx ways or Moderation’s coquettish comments or Carmen the Gypsy’s demanding dance of “look at me!”?

krissie was weird. One moment it was a person ranting and for a few posts she seemed reasonably normal. Then it reverted to ranting “I can’t be bothered to answer you properly” rant again. Weird.
Carmen just got the ‘ump because she felt out of the loop although like I said, anyone is free to stick their input in and direct the conversation.
As for Stig, he only appears to say a few words of opinion and hardly ever acknowledges anyone elses. Others simply can’t read or have blinkers on.
Still…it’s nice to exchange chatter with the normal ones…you included.
