Madeleine McCann: Spies, Richard Branson PI And Maddy TV
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE. SPY-IN-SKY PLAN TO FIND HER KIDNAPPER.”
So she was kidnapped. Wasn’t she?
“Satellite and aerial footage as well as internet traffic should be used to help the hunt,” say “intelligence experts”, including Professor Anthony Glees, Director of Brunel University’s Centre for Intelligence and Security Studies. Security is his thing.
Pages 4 and 5: “Riddle of the McCanns’ day out” – Why did the McCanns go to Spain on August 3 and what did they do there? Clarence Mitchell says the TV cameras and journalists tracked their every move.
“Branson: They are innocent” – Richard Branson PI calls it a “grotesque nightmare”. He has donated £100,000 to help the McCanns clear their name. He says the McCanns have “the weight and support of Britain behind them”.
THE SUN front page: “OUTRAGE AS COPS CLAIM MADDIE ‘BURIED IN SPAIN’.”
Pages 6 and 7: “POLICE PROBE LOST 2 HOURS” – Police Claim the McCanns buried Madeleine during a “missing two hours” in Spain.
Kate and Gerry are “shattered”.
Says the Sun:
“SUSPICIOUS the trip was postponed from the day before – because Gerry had intestinal problems.
“’STRANGE’” that the couple from Rothley, Leics, chose to visit Spain on a national holiday, when the shops were shut.
“MYSTERIOUS that the McCanns racked up ‘unjustified mileage’ in their Renault Scenic – hired 25 days after Maddie disappeared.”
A source says a new ad campaign to find Madeleine will start in two weeks.
DAILY MAIL page 3: “Police use CCTV to map McCanns trips.”
As newspaper Correio de Manha reports, Spanish police have given their Portuguese counterparts CCTV footage “showing the Renault Scenic in places in Spain where there was ‘no reason’ for the couple to be.”
A TV series based on Madeleine McCann is being produced in Chile. Says Chilean newspaper El Mercurio: “The case is becoming a soap opera.”
DAILY MIRROR front page: “KATE IS SO FRAGILE. Fears for mum after latest blow.”
Kate McCann’s face is all over the front page. “The anguish is plain to see.” A friend hears that Madeleine had not been found in Morocco: “Kate is so fragile. She’s suffering a devastating disappointment.”
Page 5: “They suffered a devastating blow with the false alarm in Morocco. Kate has crashed.”
“COPS PROBE SPAIN TRIP.”
DAILY STAR pages 6 and 7: “MADDIE DUMPED IN SPAIN.” An “exclusive”.
THE TIMES page 16: Mick Hume says: “The line between investigation and emotive entertainment has disappeared.”
THE TELEGRAPH page 6: “Portuguese focus on McCanns’ Spain trip” – Clarence Mitchell says the McCanns are innocent.
THE GUARDIAN and THE INDEPENDENT: no Madeleine news today.

I know you’re not in England. Didn’t you say you’re just outside Glasgow? Whereabouts? I’ve got loads of friends in the Livingston-Sterling-Falkirk area.

894 It’s not our fault. We are waiting for Clueless Clarence to make up a new story. Then we can have another laugh.

I fully agree with you. Why is it still acceptable to mock obese people? Everyone has problems–they just have to walk around wearing one of theirs, with no way of hiding it.

Stevo I haven’t seen “Hostel” but was thinking the atmosphere here was similar to old French comedy of manners’ films I’ve seen from the 1930’s. There’s lots of civility and pleasantries and lots of game playing then the most innocuous thing happens and all hell breaks loose and everyone is drunk, arguing, hiding and running from one bedroom to another, couples swapping and loads of intrigue and hi-jinx (oh wait that’s how Gerry described the goings on of May 3rd)
Yes the inmates have taken over the asylum. If we were at a pub we could simply go to the bar and get another Guinness.
Instead I wish all a good night.
Oh, thank you to (forget your name sorry!) for posting the article with the Mark Warner PR guy. I apprecaite it very much!

891- As mentioned, I’m not a celebrity journalist, nor a crime journalist. At the time I was covering Native America and the BIA for several news organizations. Why would I have had any interest in the O.J. Simpson case? It was not relevant to my life, my beat, my interests, anything. It was a football player (I’d actually never heard of him before- I’m not into sports) who did or did not kill his wife. So what?
My interest in Madeleine does not come from any professional interest, either- I just happen to have a daughter Madeleine’s age (turned 4 in early June).

I have my opinions and others have theirs. I am very leary of heavy handed bloggers that attack and act superior when we all here are dealing with more or less - the same information. In fact sometimes I learn quite alot because people point me in the right direction especially with the video clips - now those are good!
Attacking others for their opinions is bad form. But a good laugh, now that is okay!
September 28th, 2007 at 9:46 pm
this site is starting to get very boring, could you all please stop talking crap.

“But I have to take another dig at the real Stig, even though he’s not here -”
Cooking supper for the family - sorry.
“How come you can proscribe what my reaction to Kate and Gerry should be?
And how come you’re allowed to be judgemental and presumptuous about my reaction?”
I am not proscribing your reaction or opinion, only your methodology in arriving at your conclusions. Your methodology is invalid - flawed. You can not state that someone else’s expression of emotion is false because it does not fit your preconception of how you think it should be expressed.
People are not all the same. People do not have to behave the way you would for their behaviour to be valid.
Read your post 336 again. You say they behave in X fashion - I wouldn’t, I would behave in Y fashion, therefore because their behaviour is not Y it must be false. Your conclusion is invalid.

882- Molly. Well, that is interesting. But I’m sorry, I can’t make judgment calls and start accusing Gerry and Kate of killing their daughter based on “some ex-pat friends of this chick Molly I met on the Internet.” I think that is exactly the type of thing that has been going on, from day 1, with this case, except on a much bigger level (ie, the Portugese newspapers would only be so happy to print this allegation!!).
to you PERSONALLY, however, I would say, that if this is true, and you are sure of these friends, I can see you would have little doubt about the couple’s guilt. But remember, twice now we have had people who were “100 percent sure” they saw Madeleine elsewhere (in Belgium, in Morocco) and twice they were wrong. So who knows whether your friends really saw G & K?

Krissie could you ease off a lot, whilst the site is owned by a journalist, the posters are are NOT journalists.
Most earning a living by other means.
The PJ and Portugal’s secrecy laws are something that is part of all of this, and the UK one sided reporting also.
To all intents and purposes the McCann parents do exhibit some strange mannerisms and reactions which causes people to doubt them.
But the point of these forums is for Madeleine McCann.
There is a very thick foggy layer of smoke preventing people from empathising with the parents, but the posters hearts are in the right place, i.e with Madeleine

874. Krissie,
I’m really surprised as an investigative journalist living in the United States when the Goldman and Simpson were murdered and OJ was named as the main suspect you didn’t follow it?
I was merely trying to point out that discussing a current ongoing high profile investigation on Anorak is not much different than the OJ story which was sensational from the get go.
You didn’t watch him driving to Mexico in a white bronco with 100 LAPD following at a “safe” distance behind him? It was on tv 24-7 for days.
It used to be in the taverns and village square and songs would be sung about the crime and the characters connected to the story. Much later it was tv. Now it’s the internet.

I think you’re probably right although time spent with either of them is going to test your limits.
869 - krissie (I’m sure there’s two of them)
So it’s ok for you to ask for something to be shown or proven but not if someone asks you…right?
Stig - well you only choose to answer the postings you choose to. It’s like you cherry pick the ones you want to have a go at and ignore the ones who ask you a simple question.
867 - Molly
You always write a decent posting and I agree with you on this.
866 - Ade
I think you’re a “normal” one but like your postings all the same.
Anonymous - Today I feel like I’m in that movie “Hostel” and I’m suspicious of who I talk to in case they are on the “other side”.
Perhaps the lunatics are taking over the asylum?

239 - The Real Stig
On Lindy Chamberlain’s website, she specifically states that her first marriage was already in trouble before their daughter was taken by the dingo while camping. They actually stayed together longer than they might have BECAUSE they needed to be united to work to clear their names of the crime they did not commit.
From the RUMOURS AND FACTS page on that website:
“That death of her baby and trauma of the case caused Lindy’s divorce
Lindy has stated publicly that the reasons for her divorce existed before the loss of Azaria. The fight to clear their names kept Lindy and Michael together, fighting for a common cause.
Whether they were best friends or not, Lindy did not wish to be divorced, but she felt compelled to do so for the sake of her children. She believes that anyone, and anything, can be forgiven and does not wish any individual ill. She feels that nothing good can come of speaking about the details publicly, but no-one who is fully aware of the reasons for her divorce find fault with her choice, even those with the most stringent religious views. Today, we are a very close knit unit and I am proud to count Aidan, Reagan, & Kahlia as family and best friends.”

I have an ex pat friend who was in the hairdressers when Gerry came in for his haircut, and it was friends of hers (holidaying with her at the time) who were chatting to G & K in the beach bar. It was only the following day that they realised who they had been talking to, and were completely astounded.
September 28th, 2007 at 9:38 pm
gerrykins for prime minister… well it’s a start to his political career at least:
http://www.channel4.com/news/articles/world/gerry+mccann+backs+alert+system/856667
is this just another example of his state of complete denial?
September 28th, 2007 at 9:38 pm
Dear Lord Big Stig are you closing in on 80 or 90 years of age?
Somehow the Internet creates for them a magical license to attack the McCanns on a very personal and disgusting level and exonerates them of any moral requirement of self restraint.
This forum is NOT much different than people discussing world events, politics, mysteries and crime cases around the office water cooler, on the train, at the bus stop, in the pub etc……
Please stop with your bogeyman fear of electronic media it’s really infantile - not to mention you are redudant.
September 28th, 2007 at 9:37 pm
Editor, what’s your complaint against me, please? Do I offend you by insisting we shoudl all be reserving judgment until we have FACTS in this case? (It is, afterall, such an offensive opinion!)
Are you Stevo in new guise? I believe so! Is it just COINCIDENCE an editor showed up here once I said I was a reporter? I think not!
Clearly you are in disguise!

The difference in length of his hair on the 2 consecutive days leads me to believe he may have had a haircut, But untill theres a foolproof scientific test for ‘haircut’ I refuse to believe. Im sure there are many explanations… Rotting meat or sweaty sandals etc etc…..
