Madeleine McCann: Spies, Richard Branson PI And Maddy TV
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE. SPY-IN-SKY PLAN TO FIND HER KIDNAPPER.”
So she was kidnapped. Wasn’t she?
“Satellite and aerial footage as well as internet traffic should be used to help the hunt,” say “intelligence experts”, including Professor Anthony Glees, Director of Brunel University’s Centre for Intelligence and Security Studies. Security is his thing.
Pages 4 and 5: “Riddle of the McCanns’ day out” – Why did the McCanns go to Spain on August 3 and what did they do there? Clarence Mitchell says the TV cameras and journalists tracked their every move.
“Branson: They are innocent” – Richard Branson PI calls it a “grotesque nightmare”. He has donated £100,000 to help the McCanns clear their name. He says the McCanns have “the weight and support of Britain behind them”.
THE SUN front page: “OUTRAGE AS COPS CLAIM MADDIE ‘BURIED IN SPAIN’.”
Pages 6 and 7: “POLICE PROBE LOST 2 HOURS” – Police Claim the McCanns buried Madeleine during a “missing two hours” in Spain.
Kate and Gerry are “shattered”.
Says the Sun:
“SUSPICIOUS the trip was postponed from the day before – because Gerry had intestinal problems.
“’STRANGE’” that the couple from Rothley, Leics, chose to visit Spain on a national holiday, when the shops were shut.
“MYSTERIOUS that the McCanns racked up ‘unjustified mileage’ in their Renault Scenic – hired 25 days after Maddie disappeared.”
A source says a new ad campaign to find Madeleine will start in two weeks.
DAILY MAIL page 3: “Police use CCTV to map McCanns trips.”
As newspaper Correio de Manha reports, Spanish police have given their Portuguese counterparts CCTV footage “showing the Renault Scenic in places in Spain where there was ‘no reason’ for the couple to be.”
A TV series based on Madeleine McCann is being produced in Chile. Says Chilean newspaper El Mercurio: “The case is becoming a soap opera.”
DAILY MIRROR front page: “KATE IS SO FRAGILE. Fears for mum after latest blow.”
Kate McCann’s face is all over the front page. “The anguish is plain to see.” A friend hears that Madeleine had not been found in Morocco: “Kate is so fragile. She’s suffering a devastating disappointment.”
Page 5: “They suffered a devastating blow with the false alarm in Morocco. Kate has crashed.”
“COPS PROBE SPAIN TRIP.”
DAILY STAR pages 6 and 7: “MADDIE DUMPED IN SPAIN.” An “exclusive”.
THE TIMES page 16: Mick Hume says: “The line between investigation and emotive entertainment has disappeared.”
THE TELEGRAPH page 6: “Portuguese focus on McCanns’ Spain trip” – Clarence Mitchell says the McCanns are innocent.
THE GUARDIAN and THE INDEPENDENT: no Madeleine news today.

James - see this link:http://www.abcnews.go.com/International/story?id=3617604&page=1
It seems that all of Britian is coming to the aid of the McCanns - a matter of national pride I suppose. Happens.

As a mother of twin girls and one son, little girls love their fathers - adore and worship them. Sometimes mothers get jealous but not usually. Most think it is sweet and wonderful.
September 28th, 2007 at 10:46 pm
Ok, Gerry is out of work, so is kate, so who is paying for Clarence the clown?
September 28th, 2007 at 10:45 pm
926. sorry ade, i think gerrykins may be as much in the dark about about this as we are. I reckon that Lovely little maddie was the apple of his eye, a gorgeous little girl, bright, funny and excitable. Think the ice queen may have felt a little neglected, put upon, not getting all the attention any more. Dont think that she would have deliberatly hurt a child but she does come across as selfish and spoilt. Was the child calling Daddy all the time, unsual for a 3 year old not to be calling mummy.
September 28th, 2007 at 10:43 pm
The fund is not paying for Clarence the Clown is it?
September 28th, 2007 at 10:39 pm
The fund was supposedly set up for the benefit of the child. It thought it was meant to loctae her not to hire clarence the clown.

I thought Kate was a GP?

Your theory is fine. Like I say many times, I respect any reasonable theory. I hope the evidence and/or body is found (hopefully Madeleine is alive and well) and then this whole case can be solved.
Right…dinnertime now.

“And then yesterday or Wednesday comments from Kate’s college friends about how she was more interested in going to the pub than studying”
I believe her subsequent academic achievements indicate she probably did a lot more than just go to the pub. You don’t get to be a surgeon and anesthetist down the pub.

Madeline was stalked, the McCanns were observed, their pattern of behaviour noted then Madeline was abducted.
I am hugely disconcerted by there still being a senior PJ detective on the case who is under investigation for possibly torturing a mother to get a confession that she murdered her own daughter. There has been falsification of evidence in that case.
I am not saying this is the case - pure speculation on my part - but ‘IF’ that PJ detective was the actual culprit in the first case - it might explain the urgency of shutting up the mother by framing her. In that previous case the childs body was never found. If you are the culprit, you have access to forensic material you can plant. Of course this is unjustified wild speculation and I hope there is no basis to it.
I hate coincidences like this in a case like this.
If this happened in the UK, I think the entire investigative team might be considered compromised and they would be pulled off and replaced with a fresh crew from another part of the country. I think that is what should happen here.
I am still unsettled by the ‘reported’ - and therefore possibly fictitious - inconsistencies between Murat’s reported link with Malinka and what his phone record purportedly indicated concerning that link. I would also dearly like to know the truth of the allegation that Malinka had wiped all his hard drives before cheerfully putting his hand up and saying here I am, you were looking for me I believe.

In Midsomer Murders it’s always the most famous actor wot dunnit. In this case the one lining up as the most famous actor in the media show is gerrykins. So he must ‘ave dunnit. Case solved. Elementary my dear flotsam.

Off for dinner now. Good talking to the decent ones in here…

914 - murder
Of course you don’t need a body to prove death. What about the 2800 victims of 9/11. How many bodies did they recover out of that lot?
Like you say, it’s an outdated principal that you need a body to prove murder.
DNA and other advances in forensics should alleviate that to a large degree providing the evidence is plentiful and has enough circumstantial evidence to bolster it.
September 28th, 2007 at 10:10 pm
I have seen reference to “150 days”. Apologies if it’s all been discussed before but what the hell is all that about? I presume someone has predicted something special for that day. It must be coming up soon anyway so not long to wait.
September 28th, 2007 at 10:08 pm
It’s been fun gang. Gotta run and get some real work done. After all - it is Friday in my part of the world!

OOps - now this is priceless:Another invention from Team McCann: “Kate and Gerry have “been banned from Barbara Walter’ show because of threats from Portuguese Police”
See the front page of Anorak on the right for breaking news.

I find it absurd that Gerry and Kate could function as normal at anytime after May 3rd, let alone the day after. Maybe Gerry’s hair grew so fast after all that searching for Madeleine until 4:30am.
If it was me, I don’t even think I’d stop at 4:30am. Why did they stop searching?

It’s not as simple as “the way she looks”.
It’s the way she acts as well and she does have an awful lot to say too.
C’mon she’s a bit of a bruiser and no mistake missus. I find it quite bizarre that we have in the cast list the fragrant, willow-like katiepoos and then in complete contrast: Auntie Phil…
It’s just not what the casting director would do…
September 28th, 2007 at 10:01 pm
892 … Unlike the people who were 100% certain that they ’saw’ Madeleine, my friends were actually speaking to Gerry and Kate, so not much room for being mistaken.
However I do COMPLETELY take your point that you should not take my word for it! I was merely trying to explain to you one of the reasons why I personally feel the way that I do
September 28th, 2007 at 10:00 pm
867. Molly. At his stage your theory seems the most probable to me, too.

Mary 872:
I think that’s a very good point.
The traditional idea that ‘you need a body’ to prove murder seems pretty dated, given the recent deveopments in forensic pathology. Of course the McCann’s team of high-paid lawyers can always find a paid ‘expert’ to dispute the science behind any particular forensic report (just as Exxon can find ‘experts’ to question the science behind anthropogenic global warming). And no ‘expert’ outside a philosophy department is going to try and prove that an actual corpse isn’t really Maddie or dead.
As so often in this case, what the Portuguese prosecutor actually said was misreported - not ‘without a body the case fails’, but ‘without a body it becomes a lot more complicated’. He also said (largely unreported in the British press): ‘we know what happened, and even without a body, we’re going to prove it’.
Funny how TCM left those bits out, while they spoonfed friendly British editors with stuff about ‘Kate & Gerry having to wake up everyday knowing they might hear the worst - that a body had been found’. Well, yes, pretty bad for them that would be. Though they were sure they’d hidden it pretty well when they taunted the PJ that without a body there was no proof of unlawful killing.
Also, as you say, a body that had been in the sea for a few months probably wouldn’t provide much useful evidence, except 99.999% certainty of death from some cause. OK, if there were certain fractures, say, that might say something about the cause of death, but there would be no useful toxicology, and nothing much else.
So I agree with you that this ‘Yah Boo, if you want to prove we did it, find the body’ stuff does seem rather misplaced in 2007. Maybe the McCanns holiday forensics reading was rather out-of-date.
