Madeleine McCann: Spies, Richard Branson PI And Maddy TV
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE. SPY-IN-SKY PLAN TO FIND HER KIDNAPPER.”
So she was kidnapped. Wasn’t she?
“Satellite and aerial footage as well as internet traffic should be used to help the hunt,” say “intelligence experts”, including Professor Anthony Glees, Director of Brunel University’s Centre for Intelligence and Security Studies. Security is his thing.
Pages 4 and 5: “Riddle of the McCanns’ day out” – Why did the McCanns go to Spain on August 3 and what did they do there? Clarence Mitchell says the TV cameras and journalists tracked their every move.
“Branson: They are innocent” – Richard Branson PI calls it a “grotesque nightmare”. He has donated £100,000 to help the McCanns clear their name. He says the McCanns have “the weight and support of Britain behind them”.
THE SUN front page: “OUTRAGE AS COPS CLAIM MADDIE ‘BURIED IN SPAIN’.”
Pages 6 and 7: “POLICE PROBE LOST 2 HOURS” – Police Claim the McCanns buried Madeleine during a “missing two hours” in Spain.
Kate and Gerry are “shattered”.
Says the Sun:
“SUSPICIOUS the trip was postponed from the day before – because Gerry had intestinal problems.
“’STRANGE’” that the couple from Rothley, Leics, chose to visit Spain on a national holiday, when the shops were shut.
“MYSTERIOUS that the McCanns racked up ‘unjustified mileage’ in their Renault Scenic – hired 25 days after Maddie disappeared.”
A source says a new ad campaign to find Madeleine will start in two weeks.
DAILY MAIL page 3: “Police use CCTV to map McCanns trips.”
As newspaper Correio de Manha reports, Spanish police have given their Portuguese counterparts CCTV footage “showing the Renault Scenic in places in Spain where there was ‘no reason’ for the couple to be.”
A TV series based on Madeleine McCann is being produced in Chile. Says Chilean newspaper El Mercurio: “The case is becoming a soap opera.”
DAILY MIRROR front page: “KATE IS SO FRAGILE. Fears for mum after latest blow.”
Kate McCann’s face is all over the front page. “The anguish is plain to see.” A friend hears that Madeleine had not been found in Morocco: “Kate is so fragile. She’s suffering a devastating disappointment.”
Page 5: “They suffered a devastating blow with the false alarm in Morocco. Kate has crashed.”
“COPS PROBE SPAIN TRIP.”
DAILY STAR pages 6 and 7: “MADDIE DUMPED IN SPAIN.” An “exclusive”.
THE TIMES page 16: Mick Hume says: “The line between investigation and emotive entertainment has disappeared.”
THE TELEGRAPH page 6: “Portuguese focus on McCanns’ Spain trip” – Clarence Mitchell says the McCanns are innocent.
THE GUARDIAN and THE INDEPENDENT: no Madeleine news today.

A mystery boatman - this I can believe. Sorry, I simply do not believe that any so called friend would help one put their child in a freezer. There are limits to friendships.
But the mystery boatman makes more sense if the child was kidnapped by a stranger and this seems a good way to go - if the sighting has substance.

Hi Paolo, Thanks for that but the silent majority in England do not believe everything the tabloids here choose to censor and publish, this site for example, http://www.truespear / spudgun and many others are not of the opinion that the Portugese are less than the brits, great post by the way

I agree that the UK media did not distinguish itself then — but nor did the US.
Fine Atropa. But what do you mean?

They’re still making more headlines!
Did Kate play tennis or not???
And now we have ‘the mystery boatman’.

The judge finally agreed and let the girl go on time served. It was the right decision. There was much suspicion about the parents on this.
September 28th, 2007 at 11:33 pm
#956 - her name is Louise Woodward. Can’t remember the details of the case but there was a lot of criticism about the parents leaving their very small children in the care of a teenager. You are right, it split down the middle in opinion.

The truth about Leonor Cipriano (mother of “another missing girl”…) “beaten” and “tortured” by Chief-Inspector Gonçalo Amaral
There’s a killer on the road, and his name is “Amaral Lector”. This is what most readers of British Media should think, after what was published by tabloids like Daily Express and Daily Mail, about Portuguese CID Chief-Inspector Gonçalo Amaral, the man in charge of the investigation of Madeleine disappearance. That “killer”, Gonçalo Amaral, has tortured a poor mother of “another missing girl”, (a girl that vanished like Madeleine McCann, right?) as Daily Express wrote. Several emails and comments posted at my page reflected the conclusion their authors arrived, after being so accurately and precisely informed by British journalist about what happened to Joana, an eight years old girl, daughter of Leonor Cipriano, the poor mother tortured by “Amaral Lector”.
What most British journalists forget to mention – never allow truth or reality to kill a good story, of course … - was a couple of “small” details that, if mentioned, would transform those good headlines in nothing. So, let’s take a look at some facts about that “another missing girl”:
1 – Joana Cipriano vanished from a small place 10 km in the outskirts of Portimão. Last time somebody saw her, she was on her way to a local groceries shop;
2 - Her mother, Leonor Cipriano, only reported to Police her daughter has disappeared two days after;
3 – After a long and difficult investigation, headed by Chief-Inspector Gonçalo Amaral, Leonor Cipriano and her brother were accused of murdering the eight years old child;
4 – The body of Joana Cipriano was never found, but samples of her blood were found in her mother refrigerator;
5 – Her mother justified those samples of blood admitting she had beaten Joana, for some reason, she was hurt and she blooded from her nose;
6 – Leonor Cipriano and her brother, who had a incestuous relationship, were sentenced to 16 years in jail, for the murder of her daughter and nice;
7 – Before the trial, Leonor Cipriano accused five CID officers of beating her, trying to extract a confession. She named the five CID officers, and included Chief-Inspector Gonçalo (”Amaral Lector”, according to British tabloids…);
8 – The Public Prosecutor’s Office opened a criminal investigation and ordered a police line-up, with the CID officers named and accused by Leonor Cipriano of beating her;
9 – The line-up took place with Leonor Cipriano behind a two-way mirror and she couldn’t recognize any of the aggressors;
10 – The Public Prosecutor’s Office magistrate that was in charge of the criminal investigation decided to accuse the five CID officers, but didn’t mentioned, in the accusation sent to the Court, that Leonor Cipriano couldn’t identify any of the aggressors, in the police line-up;
11 – Leonor Cipriano never confessed the murder of her own daughter. Her brother, in a letter written from jail, accused Leonor Cipriano of selling her daughter;
12 – Police is convinced (and the jurors at the trial found enough evidence to pass a verdict of guilty) that Leonor Cipriano and her brother were found, by Joana, having sexual relations, when she came home, back from the groceries shop. As Leonor Cipriano had a lover, at the time, they were afraid she would tell him what she saw;
13 – So, they beat her, in order to frighten her and keep her mouth shut up;
14 – Perhaps accidentally, they beat her so violently that they killed her. So, they decided to get rid of he body and cut it in pieces, keeping some of them in the freezer, while they gave the other pieces to be eaten by pigs (this is what police believes is the strongest possibility, because there was no other trace of Joana Cipriano, unless the blood samples in her mother freezer…)
15 – The body of Joana Cipriano was never found.
And so, here we have a terrible story of a dysfunctional family, a child murdered and a very difficult police investigation. The only thing – in my humble opinion - that has some similarity with Madeleine McCann disappearance is the fact that the person in charge of Madeleine’s case is the same that successfully headed Joana Cipriano investigation: CID Chief-Inspector Gonçalo Amaral. And success, in Joana’s case, is clear: the murderers were found, accused, went to court, they were sentenced, they appealed the sentence and the Portuguese Supreme Court reduced it to 16 years of jail to both of them – the mother, Leonor Cipriano and her brother, for the murder her daughter and nice, eight year old Joana Cipriano.
If many “consumers” of British Media have another idea, that’s because most British journalists covering Madeleine McCann abduction strongly believe that truth never should be allowed to “kill” a good story. Even if I means destroying the reputation of an experienced CID Chief-Inspector. “And what’s the problem?” – I imagine my British colleagues asking themselves this question, with a pint of Guinness in the hand, enjoying the sunshine at Praia da Luz. “The guy isn’t even British, he’s just a Portuguese…”

“”The typical brutal dictator, like Nero, Saddam Hussein, Josef Stalin, and Aloph Hitler, is or was a malignant narcissist.”

“Narcissists and psychopaths often try to hide this brutal inhumanity and total lack of empathy by mimicking human emotions, often melodramatically. They are extremely sneaky and manipulative, mainly because they’ve been practicing these arts nonstop from about the age of six.”
“Unless they are so powerful they needn’t hide what they are, they go to great lengths to portray themselves as the very opposite of what they are. They are pathological liars who tell bizarre lies. They often react to things in a bizarre way that makes you pinch yourself. Yet despite these warning signs that there is something wrong with them, and despite the mental maturity level of a little child before the Age of Reason, they almost always pass for normal.”

951 - Anonymous - Thank you for the link. Someone I know was a wife to a surgeon who had big time mental problems and eventually committed suicide. So it happens. Also, quite the party guy.
But on another note, initially I wondered how a woman or couple of normal sentiments could carry out this fiasco and pull it off. It is all so odd. I could never do it - in fact I’d be on the floor with my dying or dead child in my arms wailing and my fingers would need to be pried from her limp body. So I could not for the life of me visualize how a mother could be involved.
But not everyone is alike, as so many have pointed out. Eat after my child died, no way! Drink, maybe? But these are doctors and have easy access to drugs and medication and who knows what else can be taken to soothe frayed nerves and the distraught mind.
As to handling my daughters dead body - again - no way. But maybe not with people who are trained around death - exposure changes one’s sentiments and abilities.
And then one needs to think, what will they lose? There are the twins to think of, their careers, their home, their family etc. etc. Self interest is a great motivator. After all, Maddie is dead - can’t change that. It was an accident - can’t change that………sometimes it is easy to cross over the line, a little fudging and a little more ……
It is possible. If this case is brought to trial and the evidence presented in a proper manner, then we will be able to judge properly. Until then, this is all speculation.

Does anyone remember a case around 10 yrs ago when a British nanny was convicted of killing a baby in America? Louise?The baby’s parents were doctors if I remember rightly.
Anyway, the British press took the same stance in that case and decided the girl was innocent even though the court found her guilty. She served a short sentence.
Many then, like now, “knew” she had’nt done it and rubbished the evidence against her and the police investigation.

949.
Talking of reality checks, take of the rose coloured specks and read the news.
Children left home alone
Blood in the apartment
A clean up (by the abductor is suppose)
The smell of death
The inability to establish their whereabouts that night
Failing to report an intruder in the kids bedroom
The contradictions in their stories
the fact that the window was opened from the inside
The lack of evidence of an intrusion
The Bible
The dna and the hair in the car, actually in the spare wheel well (how the hell did it get there).
The mystery trip
The false allegations against robert Murat
The failure to answer questions in an investigation
The evidence of the staff
Why Kate rang sky news and not the police
The lack of remorse
The disappearing priest
The lies
That fact three babies were sleeping by 8.00 at night - any mother would pay good money to have one child of that age that just went to bed when told. did not wake up even with sirens and tens of people (sedation - more than likely)
Attempting to destroy every bit of evidence aginst them.
Trying to fool us into beleiving their innocence with false sightings, and false media reports.
Targeting the rich and famous.
And finally the sympathy act - the stress breakdown that we have all been waiting for.
Look out for the fake confession tomorrow. The rest of us can read this story like a book, so please get real woman.

946. I don’t get the meaning of your message at all. If you are trying to imply I am “hiding” behind the anonymous I am not. Please check out the Anorak forum and you will learn that a trouble maker on Anorak kept signing on with my username starting trouble with everyone. It’s happened other times as well.
After posting a techincal question on the forum about how to stop this problem when I post on these threads my name doesn’t come up - instead “anonymous” does.

Thanks Miss Match and SusieQ for attempting to enlighten The Big Stig.
I don’t know how doctor’s get graded in GB but in America it is possible for a medical student to pass with low mediocre grades.
Also, a lot of people are unaware that there had been a very high rate of alcoholic surgeons in the United States back in the ’50’s-70’s. Many claimed that drinking helped them to relax but then they took it to an extreme.
I know Kate and Gerry aren’t surgeons but just think there is this starry-eyed veneration of doctors in all cultures.

Thanks for the correction. I was in Oz at the time and everybody speculated at the time as to the cause of the breakup and that was the main suspicion.
September 28th, 2007 at 11:08 pm
If Maddie is alive, she absolutely does not know her mother is looking for her or loves her. The kidnapper would tell her that her mother is dead, that the child is not loved or wanted and in fact that no one cares - so she might as well forget her mommy and daddy they will never come.
This is what evil people tell little children. Seems that we need a reality check here.

#927 - Stig. Your comments about the PJ are indeed a cause for concern. I have defended the PJ on many occasions but you are right, we all need to try to keep an open mind on this. I remember the film ‘Midnight Express’ very well, and a Richard Gere film called ‘Red Corner’, both of which highlight the corruption of some police forces. Actually don’t even have to look too far from home probably…
With regard to the ‘high moral ground’ issue. I have to put my hands up! Feel rather let down today by some of my fellow non pro-McCannics remarks. Especially as you so rightly point out their timing was dreadful!

The reported interview is defensive except,
“I would tell her that we love her. She knows we love her very much. She knows we are looking for her, that we are doing absolutely everything and we will never give up.”
is moving.

941 - And when I say, ‘performing your surgical or anaesthetic duties reasonably well’, I mean that the patient might wake up a little in the sense that they start to move around or thrash out an arm to the poor unsuspecting scrub nurse, and God forbid that the junior surgeon is trying to tie off a vein at that point. Yes, it happens and is always a good story for the coffee room. Been there…..

929. I turning my comp off and just happened to read 2 of your comments. I never said Kate was unintelligent. I merely stated what your press has reported. I have no idea if it is true or not. If you read my comment within the proper context Sherlock maybe you’d have understood my reason.
Krissie, Stevo, others and myself were discussing friends of the McCanns and if any have come forward.
As far as the Portuguese police being implicated in a scandal. I too am seriously concerned about this but have no way of knowing if the reports I am reading are true or not.
Out of curiosity, why is it okay to not extend the oft cited: innocent until proven guilty towards someone who works in law enforcement but the McCanns are eligible?
Isn’t someone in the Tapas 9 being investigated for negligence in the death of a patient? Has their medical license been suspended while the investigation is ongoing? Are they still caring for old and new patients?

Not to be in a harsh debate here, but I think it rather normal to ask for sources isn’t it? Everyone is expected to back up what they say or at least should try. Both camps should when asked, and really before they are asked. Sorry, I admit some of my sources get lost in the shuffle of media links - but at least one needs to try to point them out.
September 28th, 2007 at 10:56 pm
929 - The Real Stig: You don’t get to be a surgeon and anesthetist down the pub.
As shocking as this is to you - yes you do. You would be amazed at the doors that open when you mix with the ‘right’ people whether it is at the golf course or the pub across the road from the hospital. Nothing like coming into the anaesthetic room in the morning with three cups of coffee, complaining about your headache from the night out before, having some hilarious tale to tell about a colleague and alcohol related behavoir, and performing surgical or anaesthetic duties reasonably well. Promotion pretty much guaranteed. Look at Gerry McCann. Hardly tea total was he and look at the dizzy heights he reached. Wow - a cardiology consultant.
September 28th, 2007 at 10:54 pm
When the McCanns left Britain they drove the car to the airport. They have since said they will hold on to the vehicle to get their own independent scientific examinations done. If the car is evidence,should it not be under the remit of the PJ.

“You seemed to have gotten really angry at Stevo asking you if you could please offer a few sources”
Well she is right to be angry. I think she sussed out his tactic far more quickly than I did, for which I am ashamed. He waffles on outrageously and if a pro-McCann calls him on something he smiles to himself and demands ’sources’. The pro McCann person then wastes a good deal of time locating and documenting said sources than when they are presented, as he requested, he then says they are inadequate, defficient in some way and are thus invalid and demands better ones.
So if Stevo asks you for proof or sources, just give him the bird - like this ,,I,
