Madeleine McCann: People Smugglers, A Small Fridge And Child Alerts
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE - STOLEN BY PEOPLE SMUGGLERS.”
“Missing Madeleine McCann may be in the hands of North African people smugglers. Police in Morocco, investigating a reported sighting, believe they have identified a link with a ruthless gang of traffickers.”
Remember when Madeleine was in “the clutches” of Moroccans, and how the gang turned out to be a couple of farmers and their daughter?
Now: “The breakthrough came a few weeks after Madeleine went missing when a Spanish tourist reported seeing a blonde girl matching her description being dragged along by a scruffy, Arab-looking woman in the town of Zaio.”
Spanish tourist Isabel Gonzalez has told the world how she saw a blonde toddler in Morocco. Not Bouchra Benaissa. Another blonde Moroccan.
“The alarm was raised in May by 60-year-old Spanish tourist Isabel Gonzalez who said: ‘The girl I saw was blonde, with pale skin, whereas everyone else in the area is dark-skinned and dark-haired.”
Well, not everyone. Remember Bouchra Benaissa..?
DAILY STAR front page: “MADDIE BODY KEPT IN FREEZER.”
THE SUN front page: “MADDIE COPS IN SICK SLUR.”
“COPS MOST SICKENING SLUR YET” – “MADDIE’S BODY KEPT IN FRIDGE.”
“Maddie parents mark 150 days”
“McCann’s gagged by cops” – “A friend of the McCanns said: ‘It is madness. We are being forced to inhabit a fantasy world in which we can increase public awareness of Madeleine’s disappearance and urge the public’s help through a poster campaign, but her own parents cannot help in this because of the legal status attached to them. It is so frustrating - Madeleine’s own mum and dad are not allowed to speak about her.’”
So they have anything to say that is not said through their spokesman, Gerry’s blog and friends, and to the police?
DAILY MIRROR front page: “MADELEINE SENSATION – NEW SUSPECT IN STAIRWELL.”
“A British tourist seen ‘hiding’ in a stairwell outside Madeleine McCann’s apartment on the night she disappeared was being investigated last night.
“The new suspect, stocky and wearing two-tone glasses, was spotted by an Ocean Club worker just 12 metres from the flat. The employee, who did not want to be named, exclusively told the Mirror: ‘I’ll never forget him.’”
DAILY MAIL: “McCanns gagged from answering claims they dumped Madeleine’s body in Spain.”
•Portuguese papers claim Kate McCann killed Madeleine while Gerry played tennis
•Couple ‘then hid the child’s body in a fridge and later disposed of it in Spain’
•McCann spokesman Clarence Mitchell said the reports were ‘utterly ludicrous’
These are the “latest lurid allegations”.
“A family friend ridiculed the suggestion that Madeleine’s body could have been stored in a fridge, saying: ‘Have you seen the size of the fridges in those apartments? Of course they did not stuff her in a fridge.’”
THE TIMES: “Kate and Gerry McCann’s friends refute ‘missing hours’ claim as smears continue.”
“The parents of Madeleine McCann have pleaded for an end to the distressing smear campaign that has suggested that they may have killed their missing daughter…
“It was claimed yesterday that police in Portugal believe that Kate McCann killed Madeleine while putting her to bed at their holiday apartment in Praia da Luz between 7pm and 8.30pm on May 3 and then hid her corpse in a fridge, with the help of friends.
“The respected Diario de Noticias newspaper said that officers believed that Mrs McCann accidentally killed Madeleine while her husband was playing tennis.”
Stop the smears. But read all about them first.
THE GUARDIAN: “EU plan for missing child alerts.”
Oh?
“Portugal will next week call for the creation of an EU-wide alert system for missing children, five months after Madeleine McCann disappeared from a holiday resort in the south of the country. The move has been welcomed by the McCann family.”
So she was taken across boarders?
“In a statement released through Clarence Mitchell, the McCanns’ spokesman, Madeleine’s father, Gerry, said: ‘If this is true, we would very much welcome it as it would be a major step in the right direction. We feel it would be vital in protecting other children and their families. Kate and I have consistently campaigned to effect change throughout the EU to help protect children.’”
But Madeleine McCann might not have been stolen. Is this just another instance of people jumping on story to promote their pet cause?
DAILY TELEGRAPH: “Madeleine McCann’s parents may face jail.”
No, not for child neglect.
“Kate and Gerry McCann could face 12 months in prison if they speak out to defend themselves against a slur campaign in Portugal because of the country’s strict secrecy laws, it is claimed.”
Says Clarence Mitchell: “Each and every one of these nonsensical allegations causes real pain and hurt for both Gerry and Kate.
“We just hope that everyone can see these ridiculous rumours for what they are.”

the other thing that occurred during my bath was that all these brian’s dreams etc are made up.
my house is one of the most famous in england for bad shit having happened here over the last 400 years, so much so that there’s a crowd of people (a school trip i think) peering over my garden wall as i type.
and i’ve seen and heard nothing out of the ordinary.
it’s only everyone except me that thinks it’s haunted.

Hmmm something fishy going on here. Can’t get on all day then when I do the times are wrong. Its 4.38pm in the UK yet posts are timed as 6.39pm.
Whats going on Mods and Admin, have you hired GM to run the site.

yep maybe it’s about wheels turning slowly but the more I see the PJ’s approach the more I think the wheels just turn differently. Maybe they leak church activity as bait and wait to see who does what / what happens as a result. Same with freezers. Anyone seen chucking a molotov cocktail into a freezer to destroy DNA evidence would appear suspicious, I feel.
Mind you it would all be quite normal for katiepoos, being a scouser an’ all…
I’ll get me (Boris Johnson style) coat and single ticket to Liverpool for the apology speech…

well, at a guess, someone seems to be trying to either repair or update the site while we’re using it, so it may either appear in a bit, or have got lost.
try it again.
if it’s a long post, one tip is to copy it first before you post, then you won’t have to bother typing it all out again.

And add courtesy of ‘Rogets New Millenium Thesaurus’….
hurtful: injurious, irritating, hateful, harmful, baleful, bitter, deleterious, destructive

This exercise will do wonders for my crosswords.

Firestar - I submitted a post.
It vanished.
I wrote to mods and admin to mention that I did not see it.
You responded to my note to them under your name by saying it was rubbish.
How did you read it on the page if I can’t or do you have access to what
mods and admin see.
I am curious.

September 29th, 2007 at 6:31 pm
we’re pretty sure the pj leaked the ‘we would like to search the church and the building holes outside.
now someone is leaking, maybe the police, that they would like to search peoples fridges in the vicinity.
now, maybe the wheels of portuguese justice turn very slowly, but nothing seems to have happened.
or has it? that is what i would like to know, and if not, why not.
September 29th, 2007 at 6:31 pm
Interesting one here. If you do the mccann google news you get a headline which looks a bit on the negatory side:
Madeleine McCann’s parents appeal for end to ’smears’, but new …
I thought it was worth a gander so clicked on the link, which is:
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/asia/article2551987.ece
Bugger all. All I get is a 404 message. Well I suppose it could be critical of their right honourable royal fragrancity-on-high’s demeanour… Can’t have that sort of form, what?
Anyone else able to read it?
September 29th, 2007 at 6:30 pm
The McCanns and Robert Murat cannot say anything…….
from Portugese press (not known for sympathy to any of them)
.” The 24 Horas newspaper said that the public prosecutor could accuse Mrs McCann of breaking the secrecy law, which carries a maximum two years’ jail sentence. Varradas Leitao, a member of the Superior Council of the Ministerial Publico, said: “A witness or an arguida, the law is the same for everybody. You cannot divulge procedural acts.”
September 29th, 2007 at 6:30 pm
142 - Firestar,
Do you really think so?
Oh well so much for Grannys theory.
But Firestar where did you read it - because I don’t see it on the page.
What number is it?
I have always rather liked you

i have just been laid in the bath, pondering and eating my twiglets, and i’ve come up with two questions i’d like some help with and a statement.

unhelpful: disadvantageous, unuseful
September 29th, 2007 at 6:28 pm

yes it was rubbish.

I submitted a post with a completely different theory and it just vanished.
Is there a reason why?
September 29th, 2007 at 6:25 pm
Andy I totally agree. If I thought my child was in North Africa - I would be in North Africa.
I think Barbara was asking for the interview and the McC’s had to decline using the PJ gag as a reason. I think the McC’s are smart to back of showing their faces and whining in the US.
We can’t have them taking the spotlight from Paris and Brittney.
September 29th, 2007 at 6:23 pm
Connections.
From wikipedia entry on Opus Dei, (Escriva is the founder of Opus Dei):
“Critics assert that Escrivá and the organization supported the governments of Francisco Franco[93] and Augusto Pinochet,[94]”
And the same lawyer who represented Pinochet is representing the McCann’s??
If this information is incorrect, please post a correction.

Well it’s gone quiet again and I’m having another slow period - just like with the synonym word game for “ludicrous”. So on the same tack - and we have a poster by the same name phrases - it’s time to turn our attention to a nice little grouping:
hurtful
pain and hurt
unhelpful
These all seem to crop up when their right royal fragrances are on the ropes even more than usual. So let’s give comical clarrie some help with his vocabulary for tomorrow’s stortyline…
Hurtful: Upsetting, Unkind, cruel, spiteful, cutting, spiteful, wounding, insensitive, tactless, inappropriate.
unhelpful: uncooperative, contrary, awkward, unaccommodating, obstructive, unsupportive, not ready to give a hand, disobliging.
All courtesy of the Office thesaurus again (not that a Mac person like me is a supporter of Miscr$oft).
Same plan, look out for some of these new words creeping into the the comical one’s verbal shite…
September 29th, 2007 at 6:20 pm
Not no holds barred but she would ask. She is calm and collected and reserved but she would probably say something like. “You are aware there is a rumour that you accidently drugged your daughter….” and then she would sit there and watch them squirm. And of course they would not be able to answer because of the gag and she would already know what they can and can’t comment on and point that out. Wouldn’t be a very emotional interview (especially with the McC’s).
I would really love for someone on Comedy Central to interview. That would be a good interview.
September 29th, 2007 at 6:16 pm
135. DeeDeeDee.
Whilst I’m sure that an interview with the McCanns would make good tv I still cannot fathom the reasoning behind it. The McCanns have never said that they think Madeleine is in the US so what possible use is reaching “tens of millions” Americans?
Why waste time and money (though the network would probably pay) flying all that way when it appears that some Moroccan olive growers (and remember, Mrs McCann has stated that she feels North Africa is where Madeleine was taken to) still don’t know that Madeleine is missing?
IMO this was (as it appears it may no longer happen) just another chance to get their faces on the screen and say what good parents they are and how everything is ludicrous and that the PJ are no good, suspect beating, framing idiots.

120 William Perry: the bookmyvillas.com site does appear to have deleted the photo of the kitchen but if you don’t mind the slow download speed, you can access it via the internet archive at this link:

DeeDeeDee - don’t know Barbara’s style. Would she tend to ask ‘no holds barred’ questions?
September 29th, 2007 at 6:05 pm
Someone asked about the interview in the US with Barbara. I myself am curious how the American Public would react? We already know from 1st visit that they left babies alone in a motel room in a foreign country while they had dinner. That act alone is grounds for charges here. Now we know they did it previous nights and actually left the resort grounds. I am just wondering how McC friendly Americans would be on the second round. Surely Barbara is watching/reading the undercurrents and she thinks there is more of a story here. She’s not interviewing a couple whose child was adbucted she is interviewing the couple who have created the biggest media fiasco of the century. If I were McC’s I would avoid that interview at all costs. But I would love to see that!
September 29th, 2007 at 6:01 pm
Timing still a bit wonky. Reminds me of someone’s camera actually.
September 29th, 2007 at 5:56 pm
A couple of days ago it was all about the age of the Moroccan girl - 5,4,3,2 any advances on 2 anyone!
This little link shows even more amusing ‘facts’ regarding size of the McCanns back garden. You need to scroll to the end of the page to see the two ‘identical’ photos. Fab! British Journalism at its best.
