Madeleine McCann: The Nanny Suspect, Amaral Policing And Jail
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
SUNDAY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE MYSTERY. BRING IT ON.”
The Sunday Express is not the Express, which has form some weeks led with the front-page banner “MADELEINE”. The Sundays Express goes its own way.
“McCanns remain defiant as they face 40 questions from UK police this week”
“Kate and Gerry’s fury as new sighting in Morocco by businessman is ignored”
SUNDAY MIRROR front page: “MADDIE HUNT: THE TRUTH.”
The truth… At last…
“DISGRACE.”
A picture of Madeleine McCann (on the right). A picture of Portuguese copper Goncarlo Amaral (left).
“Police have ignored 250 sightings of her” – and have investigated how many?
“Cop leading police probe works four hours a day” – Amaral’s not overworked and fresh.
“He has three-hour boozy lunches with pals” – Amaral holds lengthy meetings to discuss and masticate over the case with team.
“Puffing on a cigarette and knocking back beers, the man leading the world’s biggest missing child inquiry enjoys yet another long, boozy lunch.”
Good to know that the Mirror is not wasting its time and watching him.
STAR ON SUNDAY: “THREATS TO McCANNS.”
“Friends say the couple are ‘extremely concerned’ by the nature of the threats and are considering hiring extra security.
Last night a spokeswoman for the McCanns, both 39, confirmed that they had been sent what she described as ‘negative letters and fear mail’.”
INDEPENDENT: “Maddie ‘kidnapped by maid’, says email.”
“The McCanns’ spokesman, Clarence Mitchell, said they were ‘encouraged’ by the development.”
SUNDAY TELEGRAPH: Kate McCann will risk jail to find Madeleine
Kate McCann has been told by her legal team that she faces jail sentence if she flouts Portuguese law to discuss details of the four-year-old’s disappearance in a high-profile television interview.
She tells a “close friend”: “I will do what I must. What does any of it matter if it helps find Madeleine?”
“It is what Kate thinks will help,” a close friend tells the paper. “What choice does she have? Unless Kate and Gerry ignore the law and speak out, their chances of finding Madeleine will dwindle further. Better to risk prison if it helps find her.
“Will the Portuguese police really prosecute a mother whose sole aim is to find her daughter or at least, God forbid, discover the whereabouts of her body? Kate, most of all, believes risking a jail sentence is nothing compared to finding Madeleine.”
Who needs an interview with Kate with friends like that?
THE OBSERVER: “This limbo that lasts a lifetime,” writes Carol Sarler.
“The McCanns are said to be devastated by dashed hopes; if so, they must get used to it, for there will be more sightings, more dashing and, to add to their misery, more harassment of more innocent families. I know this because, having investigated the disappearance of Ben Needham on Kos in 1991, the unfolding of the McCann case has felt like one long, wretched, groundhog summer.
“Ben, recapped in a nutshell: his grandparents, Eddie and Chris Needham, moved from Sheffield to Kos with their teenage son Stephen, daughter Kerry and her boyfriend and their son, Ben…
“…The singular difference between the Needhams and the McCanns is, crudely, class. Eddie has homemade tattoos on his knuckles, Chris was a grandmother at 38, Kerry and her boyfriend - a man known, as they say, to the police - lived in a council block. Perhaps this explains why, throughout their ordeal, nobody from the British consulate in Athens once got off their butt or went to Kos to help or support; surgeon Gerry McCann, by contrast, mobilised the world.”
“Arabic adverts aid Madeleine hunt”… “Despite the disappointment of last week’s misleading sighting of a blonde girl in the Moroccan town of Zaio, the McCanns believe that their daughter might be somewhere in the country.”
TIMES: No Madeleine news today.

Agreed…and well put across.

Yes, Kate is another severe one. Catch you tomorrow.

There is no problem in this blog. The problem is punters like you that accept the stuff the media spoon feeds you. I respect anyone who has an opinion put across with something to back it up. You’re not in that category I’m afraid.

I think sky was slightly biased last night.
It only seemed to cover old stuff the way the mc canns saw it.
did they even mention the cadaver eddie, the spare wheel section, or was that in the 3 mins i had a wee?
October 1st, 2007 at 7:35 am
1040 - You could be right there. Of course, all that jogging they’re doing (so that they can talk privately without fer of eavesdropping?) may be why kate says they “are thinner, more gaunt looking”. If they are suffering the “mental torture of having been responsible for the death of their daughter”, then they should get it off their chests and tell the world exactly what happened, before one of them snaps - but which one will do so first?
October 1st, 2007 at 7:35 am
Catch you later Stevo. Try not to dream about Gerry in a royal blue Masonic robe with a hood carrying sacks of gold coins laughing maniacally all the way to the Masonic owned bank.
October 1st, 2007 at 7:31 am
1036. Really you are thick. I am well aware of your attitude. You are so so correct. There are a few people here who do not deserve respect, count yourself in.
I think you do a fair bit of complaining that people don’t read what you write properly…maybe the same goes for you.
I think that those who whine about the McCann’s getting preferrential treatment because of friends in high places, make snide comments because they continue to exercise, or don’t cry in public and so on have limited emotional intelligence. That in fact is the main problem on this blog.

1036. Stevo,
It is curious how Kate keeps insisting ad nauseum that we who criticise the McCanns are jealous.
Why would anyone be jealous of people who either cannot love or fear expressing love for their missing child? A child the “good” parents claim is in the dangerous clutches of either a paedophile ring or illegal adoption agency?

Yes, I know…there’s some charming places in PA and MD around some of the old battlefields.
I’m about to nod off here so I’ll catch you tomorrow or in the week. Keep the idiots at bay please….this site has mostly intelligent people who read and can put forward an argument. It’s just a nuisance dealing with the odd few.
night…zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

REPLY: Most of what you say is probably true - the ‘torture’ in their faces, looking more gaunt etc. I assess this, however, as being due to the mental torture of having been responsible for the death of their daughter, and the strain of continuing to cover it up, however effective they think they’ve done it so far, and however brilliantly they perceive that their legal and media teams have worked for them. It’s not because they are upset that their daughter has been abducted

Stevo good point about people’s reactions in the Holocaust Museum as opposed to Kate and Gerry’s strange behaviour when it comes to their own child.
I’ve visited a lot of the battlefields in Pennsylvania. I think onetime I was just driving through beautiful horse country near Valley Forge and got lost. It’s really beautiful around there but I started getting the creeps and stopped at a really old tavern. I got a beer and asked for directions (pre-cell phone days!) and was talking to the barkeep and a few of the waitstaff. I mentioned getting a really creepy feeling and told them the road I was on and they all believe that the ghosts of the soldiers come out during the early morning hours and at dusk. Several claimed to see apparitions along that road and in the tavern a couple of the people who had worked there for several years said that there were a few soldiers who still wandered the tavern. It was a fun place to visit even if I am uncertain about paranormal subjects.

Yep, astrologers and clairvoyants aren’t likely to help are they. Unfortunately some weirdo “briansdreams.com” or something like that has been in on the act for ages. Seems like he needs some more sedation himself and get dreaming so he can tell us where Madeleine is!
October 1st, 2007 at 7:23 am
1035 - The last thing this story needs is astologers getting involved! Gerry and IVF Kate are playing the Roman Catholic angle, and the Vatican is not that hot (officially) on Freemasonry - although that doesn’t rule it out. There are stories of people quite literally getting away with murder through handshakes with police officers and “secret signs” made in the direction of a judge in court. No idea whether or not this is a possibility in this case.

I couldn’t give a toss what you think or say. If you put over some evidence or reasons behind what you say you’d probably have more people engaging in conversation with you. You have no respect for other people.
How you can say it’s “pathetic jealousy” is beyond me. Jealous of what? The McCanns have nothing I want and considering their life looks like hell right now who would be jealous of them? You need to put your brain into gear and think before you type.

1032. Million_Quid,
Thanks for the quick response!
Like everything else attached to Madeleine - I am not certain if Gerry is a Freemason or not. But there had been a lot of talk on Anorak about this several weeks ago but I never asked anything about it because I never even found anything reported in the online news media. Perhaps hard copy papers and tabloids run very different stories?
The only other place I found people talking about the Freemason connection was on a rather bizarre astrology blog where the astrologer claimed she could use “horary” astrology to find missing persons. She had a lengthy section on Madeleine and her astrological theory was pretty straight forward. But the other astrologer’s who replied had some far out ideas about Gerry’s alleged Freemason activity and this was the reason for Madeleine missing. They alluded to some extremely disturbing theories based of course on Gerry and Madeleine’s chart.
I don’t believe in astrology and don’t believe there’s much to the whole Mason thing but for fiction mystery writing it’s a good angle.

1029 - Wow! Where did THAT come from? Yesterday you were accusing me of being overweight and wearing medallions! Go ask your owner for a saucer of milk.
“I don’t need to spell it out to you.

Ditto!

Yes, the room with the shoes is pretty poignant. I made a post in here a day or two after comparing how you walk around that museum and see people openly weeping at something that happened 60 years ago and which didn’t involved them but yet Kate and Gerry don’t shed a tear in public at losing their precious daughter.
The battlefields are either something you love or hate. To me it was interesting but I think it’s easy to view them as totally boring. I mean…Manassas is something like 5000 acres in area and it’s just like looking at countryside. If you like the Civil War you’ll love it. If not, you’ll find it boring.
As for the freemasons in the UK and US. I know in the US it’s quite an open thing - much like other fraternal organisations like the Elks for instance. But in the UK, it’s regarded with more secrecy than in the US. I don’t know if Gerry is a mason or not. Probably he is and that’s where the connections in high places are coming from. That would explain a lot if it were true.
October 1st, 2007 at 7:12 am
1028 - Yes, many people suspect that Freemasons are a law onto themselves. This is due to their apparent preference for members with connections in business (builidng, architecture, surveying, planning, etc.), politics and other professions (doctors, lawyers) - and, of course, the police. Whether the latter is true to the same extent as it was many years ago (when books such as “The Brotherhood” were published), I don’t know, but many people remain highly suspicious of Freemasons - is Gerry one, for a fact?

1027. Have any forensics reports been completed and released? I wasn’t online while travelling but didn’t hear anything from any of the other vacationers. And have not read anything about the forensics tests since getting home and back online.
October 1st, 2007 at 7:08 am
steveo at last we agree. As you say, “there’s a few weirdos in here”. Shall I name names.
1021. You said, “I do suspect that they are receiving kid gloves treatment due to personal wealth and friends in high places.”
I seriously doubt this. Instead I see it as pathetic jealousy. You don’t like the way they go about their PR.
How are is one supposed to act? If you can’t see it (the grief) translates into it’s not there.
I see the grief. I see the torture in their faces, the anquish is there. In their bodies as well, they are thinner, more gaunt looking. It is wearing them down.
You blame them for the fiasco.
You can easily read that the same crazy talk went on about the Joanna girls parents.
It is definitely obvious the Portuguese police, or some of the detectives spew this crap out.
I don’t need to spell it out to you.
You don’t like what I have to say to bad.
October 1st, 2007 at 7:05 am
I never visited the battlefields in MD or VA. Was it a good visit? I ask because my brother is an historical fiction writer and he’s always interested in good day trips. I visited the Holocaust Museum but cannto remember much after walking through the room with the children’s shoes. I always meant to return before we moved overseas but I never did. The Korean Memorial and the WW II Memorials were the last touristy things we did before we moved. I was pretty impressed. I normally do not care for that kind of stuff even though I love history I much prefer visiting the actual places rather than a marble symbol.
Yes there were several shows on National Geographic and I think The History Channel too about the Masonic/Occult influence in DC’s city design. A great book is by David Ovason (a Briton): The Secret Architecture of Our Nation’s Capital. Really interesting stuff.
On a similar note. We were in Prague and met several groups of Brits and they were all talking about the McCann investigation. I think it was pretty much split evenly as to who thought they were complicit in Madeleine’s disappearance. What I felt was really notable was how many of the British see an importance in the whole Masonic connection with Gerry and political heads than anyone I know in the US. I was wondering if in the UK there is a negative connotation with Masonics which doesn’t exist or is less intense in the US?

I think the next instalment of this story will be later in the week when more forensics are published.

Actually I chose two things to visit: a) The battlefield at Manassas and b) the Holocaust Museum in DC. Plus, I walked around the Whitehouse, Washington Monument and the War Memorial/Korean Memorial.
Funnily enough just as your message came in was a programme on Discovery about the Masonic Lodge and the layout of DC according to the grand plan.
I’ll make time to see those places next time I’m over there but thanks for mentioning them in the first place.
As you say, there’s a few weirdos in here and I’m sure there’s more than one krissie. Someone logged in a few times claiming to be me on Saturday and I didn’t even get online all day.
October 1st, 2007 at 6:50 am
1022.
Thanks Stevo. I thought I would at least give it a try. I hope Kate is 12 years old or something like that. Krissie I can not figure out. Sometimes she seems completely level headed and rational and then all of a sudden she lashes out. Strange unless someone is signing in under her name which has happened to several of us.
I meant to ask you because I’ve been away until a few days ago. I think a couple of weeks ago we were talkign about the Scottish Rite Temple in W,DC and the George Washington Masonic Lodge in Alexandria? I was wondering if you visited either?

Yes, I know. I thought it got crazy months ago when Gerry talked to “Gordon” about the case. Now it seems Big-Ears is involved.

It’s not worth the effort spent typing back to some idiots in here…kate..krissie etc. They can’t read properly and you spend more time trying to educate them than necessary. I hoped that people in this forum had at least got an education and could read. I’m sick and tired of communicating with those self-opinionated-can’t-read-properly morons like them…
October 1st, 2007 at 6:42 am
1014 Pam - All the McCanns have to do to clear heir name is ditch the PR crap and start walking the walk and talking the talk of parents whose child is missing and who are desperate to find her. They may indeed be entirely innocent (of everything but serial child neglect), and if they want to stop this fiasco NOW before space-aliens are blamed, then they shoul come ot now and tell everything they know because, I’m sorry, but I for one am highly skeptical about their accounts as reported to date, and I do suspect that they are receiving kid gloves treatment due to personal wealth and friends in high places.

Thank you for confirming my intuitive feelings about you Kate.
Maybe my gut feelings about the McCanns isn’t so far off base.
