Madeleine McCann: The Nanny Suspect, Amaral Policing And Jail
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
SUNDAY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE MYSTERY. BRING IT ON.”
The Sunday Express is not the Express, which has form some weeks led with the front-page banner “MADELEINE”. The Sundays Express goes its own way.
“McCanns remain defiant as they face 40 questions from UK police this week”
“Kate and Gerry’s fury as new sighting in Morocco by businessman is ignored”
SUNDAY MIRROR front page: “MADDIE HUNT: THE TRUTH.”
The truth… At last…
“DISGRACE.”
A picture of Madeleine McCann (on the right). A picture of Portuguese copper Goncarlo Amaral (left).
“Police have ignored 250 sightings of her” – and have investigated how many?
“Cop leading police probe works four hours a day” – Amaral’s not overworked and fresh.
“He has three-hour boozy lunches with pals” – Amaral holds lengthy meetings to discuss and masticate over the case with team.
“Puffing on a cigarette and knocking back beers, the man leading the world’s biggest missing child inquiry enjoys yet another long, boozy lunch.”
Good to know that the Mirror is not wasting its time and watching him.
STAR ON SUNDAY: “THREATS TO McCANNS.”
“Friends say the couple are ‘extremely concerned’ by the nature of the threats and are considering hiring extra security.
Last night a spokeswoman for the McCanns, both 39, confirmed that they had been sent what she described as ‘negative letters and fear mail’.”
INDEPENDENT: “Maddie ‘kidnapped by maid’, says email.”
“The McCanns’ spokesman, Clarence Mitchell, said they were ‘encouraged’ by the development.”
SUNDAY TELEGRAPH: Kate McCann will risk jail to find Madeleine
Kate McCann has been told by her legal team that she faces jail sentence if she flouts Portuguese law to discuss details of the four-year-old’s disappearance in a high-profile television interview.
She tells a “close friend”: “I will do what I must. What does any of it matter if it helps find Madeleine?”
“It is what Kate thinks will help,” a close friend tells the paper. “What choice does she have? Unless Kate and Gerry ignore the law and speak out, their chances of finding Madeleine will dwindle further. Better to risk prison if it helps find her.
“Will the Portuguese police really prosecute a mother whose sole aim is to find her daughter or at least, God forbid, discover the whereabouts of her body? Kate, most of all, believes risking a jail sentence is nothing compared to finding Madeleine.”
Who needs an interview with Kate with friends like that?
THE OBSERVER: “This limbo that lasts a lifetime,” writes Carol Sarler.
“The McCanns are said to be devastated by dashed hopes; if so, they must get used to it, for there will be more sightings, more dashing and, to add to their misery, more harassment of more innocent families. I know this because, having investigated the disappearance of Ben Needham on Kos in 1991, the unfolding of the McCann case has felt like one long, wretched, groundhog summer.
“Ben, recapped in a nutshell: his grandparents, Eddie and Chris Needham, moved from Sheffield to Kos with their teenage son Stephen, daughter Kerry and her boyfriend and their son, Ben…
“…The singular difference between the Needhams and the McCanns is, crudely, class. Eddie has homemade tattoos on his knuckles, Chris was a grandmother at 38, Kerry and her boyfriend - a man known, as they say, to the police - lived in a council block. Perhaps this explains why, throughout their ordeal, nobody from the British consulate in Athens once got off their butt or went to Kos to help or support; surgeon Gerry McCann, by contrast, mobilised the world.”
“Arabic adverts aid Madeleine hunt”… “Despite the disappointment of last week’s misleading sighting of a blonde girl in the Moroccan town of Zaio, the McCanns believe that their daughter might be somewhere in the country.”
TIMES: No Madeleine news today.

1077. What are you talking about?
“Annie 1074 makes a lot of sense..” No she doesn’t. You know she pretends to be empathetic…but actually it is egocentric. I would feel this way therefore, since I am the model/pattern everyone in the situation will feel the same.
Very likely Kate enjoyed having this time to spend with the children and was not in the least burdened by it. Yikes

YES! YES! YES!

Thanks for the breakdown. I was unable to keep track of all the theories since I unfortunately I blinked and missed a lot.
You really brought the human factor into play…your observation of kate is plausable.

What evidence is there that she died of a head injury? What evidence is there that she fell down those stairs?
Could it be possible the head injury was caused in the bedroom, the blood found on the stairs is leakage from the corpse? Body fat turns to liquid after death.
There was blood on the windowsill and curtains. How did it get there? The shutter was not forced according to the PJ.
The dogs are trained to find blood and corpses. They cannot follow the trail of one person or distinguish between corpses. Have any of you trained a dog to scent?
Tracker dogs are trained to follow a scent ‘presented’ to them, the world record being held by a Doberman which tracked his ‘prey’ 150 miles across America (a criminal) Crufts hold a competition for dogs to find the scented hankerchief of a total stranger, this is the first stages of working towards a proffessionalally trained tracking dog.
Cadaver dogs are trained to track blood or corpse ’scent’, drugs dogs are trained to find drugs. The dogs do not distinguish between heroin or cocaine, the cadaver dogs do not distinguish between blood or corpse.
The dogs apparently followed a trail to the beach, right past a church and ‘possibly’ a cemetary? Don’t tell me the dogs couldn’t pick up the corpse scent from the cemetary.
With the hunting ban in the UK, a great number of fox hounds have been re-trained to drag hunting - This is a more humane hunting, the dogs are trained to follow the scent of aniseed. A human guenie (god can’t spell today lol) pig drags a bag which is scented with aniseed across country, the fox hounds pick up the trail and follow it.
Ok, bit off topic, but where is the evidence of head trauma? Where is the evidence of head trauma on the stairs? To me, it just doesn’t add up. I do think a accident occured, either through genuine miscalculation (sedative) or Kate loosing control. Lets face it, she was a part=time GP. She got a break from her kids. I am a mum myself and I am sure many other mum’s would agree that occassionally they would love an hour or two away from the kids, a bit of ‘me’ time. This does not mean they love their kids any less.
Kate didn’t get the me time on holiday, she is reputed to have said Gerry never helped with the kids. In her mind, this wasn’t a holiday for her in the ‘real’ sense of a holiday, she was now a full time mum rather than a part-time one. This had been going on since the start of the holiday, it really wouldn’t surprise me if she lost it with the kids. Now she won’t take a lie detector test, I believe a spanish newspaper has offered to pay for one but they have refused! so much for ‘willing to take a lie detector test’, they have always been willing to help the police BUT refused to answer certain questions, helping the police? Duh, have I got stupid written across my forehead? NO.

The fall down the stairs is the latest theory. I have lost count of how many theories. More importantly who is putting them out there? and where is the evidence??
October 1st, 2007 at 8:37 pm
Just another theory but Maddie is playing up running away from kate cos she doesnt want her medicine. She slips on the stairs and hurts herself. they take her inside to save her but fail. What now?
There is nothing else they can do, so the quick thinking team hatch a plot to get rich quick with a fake kidnapping. Hence the Maddie fund, and theyre all in on it.

I think I’d put my faith in the Portuguese police before calling Russell Grant in.
October 1st, 2007 at 12:57 pm
No matter what the outcome of this case, the McCanns are culpable in one way or the other. No expensive PR smokescreen can blind the public from that one simple fact.

1064. You would know better than me. The astro blog I read through was using horary as I recall and this didn’t make sense to me since exact time Madeleine disappeared is not known.
I can read transits and a birth chart but that’s it. Unfortunately, I’ve never personally found my own readings should be considered anything more than entertainment. And the hundreds of dollars I spent on readings were imho a waste of money. No astrologer ever told me anything I either didn’t already know or made any prediction which came to light. I guess if I had more money to explore astrology I might be convinced but until I have extra spending money to use on astrology readings I’ll probably never find out.
Now mediums - although I believe most of them are scam artists - I do know 2 or 3 people in northern Virginia who are absolutely amazing. Extremely gifted and it’s donation only. So if you don’t have any money or don’t wish to donate it is not neccessary. It’s not like a cold reading John Edwards crap either. I never said much at all other than my name and birthdate and they gave accurate descriptive information.
Anyway, I think it would be interesting to do readings on Anorak. We don’t need to do it here we could do it over on the forums? I’m very sceptical but very open minded.

1062 – 1063
Thanks both very much for your information.
Anonymous – yes, and that massive Gemini stellium is square Pluto/Uranus in Virgo – there you go.
There are two types of charts we’re talking about here. Event chart – chart for the moment of the actual event, that’s what we’re talking about here – if we say Kate found her missing at 10 pm – we would use that chart. It’s NOT a horary chart.
Horary chart is a different type – it’s a chart for the moment you ask a certain question. It can be a question about a missing person – but it can be about anything really. That’s why these “astrologers” can’t get it right – they use horary rules but work with an event chart.

1060 Pixie,
I actually am pretty knowledgeable in reading an astrology chart but not in horary which I think is the type of astrology to use for a missing person. Since no one knows exactly what time Madeleine went missing I don’t believe an accurate horary chart can be cast.
Star IQ has Kate’s dob listed as early March 1968. A Pisces according to tropical and an Aquarius if we use sidereal/Vedic. Apologies but I am too lazy to go to Star IQ but you can easily find it.
Gerry has a massive………..
Although in Vedic/sidereal much would fall into Taurus. I can’t recall much else. But an astrology blog said that his chart is indicative of a “magician”?
Gemini stellium.

1060. I read some where that this is Maddies birth time 4:30pm, May 12, London. This puts her rising sign at 8 degrees Libra.

Just a few random thoughts and observatons for a Monday Morning:
Cuddle Cat ….I have great difficulty in believing that Cuddle Cat was a favourite toy - not so much because of the lack of him in photographs with Madeleine, as because of his pristine condition. In some photographs with Kate his label can be clearly seen - readable, and looking like new. My 3 children all had comfort toys, and by the time they had reached Madeleine’s age they had been dribbled on, sucked, drenched in the snot of umpteen colds, dipped in food, soaked in tears and juice and boil washed more times than I care to estimate. They bore very little resemblance to their original selves by that time, and their labels were just tatty white bits of material. Poor Cuddle Cat, by comparison, does not look very loved
Sedation … well interestingly - if we go back to some speculation that Madeleine was a sufferer of CHARGE syndrome (the syndrome, like other chromosonal disorders manifests in vastly differing degrees, and is often not diagnosed until a child is older) - children who suffer from this disorder are often resistant to sedation. Which may of course mean that, even if sedated, a CHARGE child might still be able to wake up and move around normally - thus rendering them more likely to have an accident due to grogginess. Purely speculation of course.
Head Injury …. not all head injuries leading to death need to involve open wounds. Don’t forget that a child’s skull is softer than an adult’s and that intercranial bleeds are often fatal, likewise a broken neck.

1038: Stevo:
Stevo – astrologers might be able to help (I honestly don’t know anything about clairvoyance so I won’t comment) if there were proper charts available and if only skilled astrologers provided the analysis. All those sites of so called astrologers don’t help this case and certainly don’t help astrology – as most of the people posting there have no real knowledge of astrology what so ever. Unfortunately.
What we know are the dates of birth of Madeleine and Gerry but obviously not the time of birth. The date of birth of Kate McCann is impossible to find, even on ancestry.co.uk, where she is otherwise listed (but no day of birth is available). And we can set up the chart for the moment Madeleine was declared “missing”.
I have been studying astrology for 15 years and I use the charts available but I don’t comment on them here on this forum. The problem with astrology in cases like this is that astrologers can see that the charts are “under pressure” – but it’s impossible to say whether that is the result of the actual event – or whether the people involved caused it. Obviously knowing the time of birth would help somewhat.

Well well well,………………MADELEINE McCann died after tumbling down steps outside her family’s holiday apartment, a team of British police claim.
They think she stumbled and cracked her head on the floor after waking up and looking for her missing parents.
That is the shock judgement of Brit officers brought in to search the family’s apartment in Praia da Luz, Portugal, with sniffer dogs specially-trained to detect blood and death.
Last night it was alleged that it was UK detectives – and not their Portuguese counterparts – who first raised suspicions about the possible involvement of Madeleine’s parents.
And after their report last week, Portuguese detectives are said to be “100% certain’’ the four-year-old died at her family’s Algarve flat on May 3.
They had thought Madeleine and her two-year-old twin siblings, Sean and Amelie, were given sedatives to help them sleep while parents Kate and Gerry, both 39, dined out with pals at a tapas bar 40 yards away.
But, according to Brit police information leaked to a Portuguese paper, Madeleine woke up and went to look for her parents.
There are “strong suspicions’’ the dazed youngster stumbled down 10 steps outside the door.
The paper claims: “The death was due to traumatic shock to the back of the head against ceramic tiles on the stairs.
“The only thing left to investigate now is how the body disappeared.’’
Portuguese detectives now plan to send a letter to British police with more than 40 key questions they say the McCanns must answer.
British officers will then decide how and where those questions will be posed.
The move was ordered by prosecutor Luis Bilro Verao, who also wants the couple’s holiday pals re-questioned too.
And, according to Portuguese newspapers, at least some of them may be named as official suspects – like the McCanns.
Earlier this month Mr Verao said the pair would not be re-quizzed unless new evidence arose but the British findings have prompted a rethink.
Results of the latest forensic tests at the apartment are due within days. And detectives have been searching in fridges and cool spots where the body may have been hidden.
It also emerged last night that suspicion fell on Maddie’s parents back in mid-July, after Portuguese detectives said the case had stalled and first appealed to the UK for help.
A Brit police source said: “Our detectives use a mantra in big investigations – ‘clear the ground under your feet’.
“Here, that meant look at the apartment and the circle closest to Madeleine – her family.
“They should have been the first to be looked at properly.’’
The McCanns deny any involvement in Maddie’s disappearance and say she could still be alive. They say they are being framed by Portuguese police desperate to solve a case they have bungled.

you want the truth as you see it. You have a very closed mind. As far as whoever suggested that I am spoon fed by the media…I suggest in return most of you follow tabloid accusations in the smear campaign. Most of which are outright ridiculous even stupid.
AND NOW THE FREEMASONS! ARE IN ON IT. SECRET HANDSHAKES AND SO ON.
Freemasonary is a hermetic society…a secret society based on the Babaloian mystery religions LOL
Mostly the rank self-righteousness that bounces off these pages makes me laugh out loud.
You know in your hearts I am right about the attitude here.

It’s not because they are upset that their daughter has been abducted

1046. Million_Quid,
You’d think with the McCanns’ love of physical excercise and since they don’t seem to mind leaving the twins behind they’d have tried searching for Madeleine on their own. They could accomplish several goals at once:
1) Physically looking for Madeleine and meeting regular folks would bring a *closeness* with her which the realm of the media cannot. It would also make the message of finding Madeleine very “real” in that local people would feel differently having met with the McCanns and chatted personally with them about Madeleine.
2) It would alleviate the pressure off of the entire world inhabitants which the McCanns apparently believe are their minions whose duty it is to physically look for Madeleine whilst they do not. It’s not that we minions mind - it’s just that the McCanns have a lot of resources so it seems justified to say they should do the looking but in a practical way. Not by going on morning tv shows, travelling to the United States or to the Vatican or having more plastic bracelets made up. Besides - if this strategy worked they would have found her by now.
3) By physically looking, searching and turning every stone over looking for clues and trying to find Madeleine they would keep their fine physiques while simultaneously using old school detective work in the process. Stones are a very good substitute for weights.

Hi Tony Bennett,
I’ve really appreciated your thoughtful intelligent comments on Anorak about Madeleine, her parents and the investigation. I was reading through yesterdays’ comments on this thread and was curious you wrote something about they won’t be able to prosecute without a body?
I’m not sure I agree with that idea at all. (I think it’s the first time I’ve come to question your great insights and thoughts on this story.) Plenty of cases have been successfully brought to trial and won without a body. If you haveth time was wondering if you care to elaborate? Maybe you meant due to the massive spotlight on this case you think a body will be neccessary to go to trial?
