Madeleine McCann: The Nanny Suspect, Amaral Policing And Jail
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
SUNDAY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE MYSTERY. BRING IT ON.”
The Sunday Express is not the Express, which has form some weeks led with the front-page banner “MADELEINE”. The Sundays Express goes its own way.
“McCanns remain defiant as they face 40 questions from UK police this week”
“Kate and Gerry’s fury as new sighting in Morocco by businessman is ignored”
SUNDAY MIRROR front page: “MADDIE HUNT: THE TRUTH.”
The truth… At last…
“DISGRACE.”
A picture of Madeleine McCann (on the right). A picture of Portuguese copper Goncarlo Amaral (left).
“Police have ignored 250 sightings of her” – and have investigated how many?
“Cop leading police probe works four hours a day” – Amaral’s not overworked and fresh.
“He has three-hour boozy lunches with pals” – Amaral holds lengthy meetings to discuss and masticate over the case with team.
“Puffing on a cigarette and knocking back beers, the man leading the world’s biggest missing child inquiry enjoys yet another long, boozy lunch.”
Good to know that the Mirror is not wasting its time and watching him.
STAR ON SUNDAY: “THREATS TO McCANNS.”
“Friends say the couple are ‘extremely concerned’ by the nature of the threats and are considering hiring extra security.
Last night a spokeswoman for the McCanns, both 39, confirmed that they had been sent what she described as ‘negative letters and fear mail’.”
INDEPENDENT: “Maddie ‘kidnapped by maid’, says email.”
“The McCanns’ spokesman, Clarence Mitchell, said they were ‘encouraged’ by the development.”
SUNDAY TELEGRAPH: Kate McCann will risk jail to find Madeleine
Kate McCann has been told by her legal team that she faces jail sentence if she flouts Portuguese law to discuss details of the four-year-old’s disappearance in a high-profile television interview.
She tells a “close friend”: “I will do what I must. What does any of it matter if it helps find Madeleine?”
“It is what Kate thinks will help,” a close friend tells the paper. “What choice does she have? Unless Kate and Gerry ignore the law and speak out, their chances of finding Madeleine will dwindle further. Better to risk prison if it helps find her.
“Will the Portuguese police really prosecute a mother whose sole aim is to find her daughter or at least, God forbid, discover the whereabouts of her body? Kate, most of all, believes risking a jail sentence is nothing compared to finding Madeleine.”
Who needs an interview with Kate with friends like that?
THE OBSERVER: “This limbo that lasts a lifetime,” writes Carol Sarler.
“The McCanns are said to be devastated by dashed hopes; if so, they must get used to it, for there will be more sightings, more dashing and, to add to their misery, more harassment of more innocent families. I know this because, having investigated the disappearance of Ben Needham on Kos in 1991, the unfolding of the McCann case has felt like one long, wretched, groundhog summer.
“Ben, recapped in a nutshell: his grandparents, Eddie and Chris Needham, moved from Sheffield to Kos with their teenage son Stephen, daughter Kerry and her boyfriend and their son, Ben…
“…The singular difference between the Needhams and the McCanns is, crudely, class. Eddie has homemade tattoos on his knuckles, Chris was a grandmother at 38, Kerry and her boyfriend - a man known, as they say, to the police - lived in a council block. Perhaps this explains why, throughout their ordeal, nobody from the British consulate in Athens once got off their butt or went to Kos to help or support; surgeon Gerry McCann, by contrast, mobilised the world.”
“Arabic adverts aid Madeleine hunt”… “Despite the disappointment of last week’s misleading sighting of a blonde girl in the Moroccan town of Zaio, the McCanns believe that their daughter might be somewhere in the country.”
TIMES: No Madeleine news today.

I am having problems posting - so this is my last one for now…
I have said from the first TV interveiw that their was something fishy about this case, and firmly believe that the parents are responsible for Madeleine’ death (IMO), over the last few months the press, team McC, Chomical whatever his name and mostly the teflon 2, have managed to convince me further that I am correct.
HOWEVER, I would revise my opinion if they did go back to portugal and present themselves at the police station and answer those questions…and I’m a stubborn old mule…so
TEAM McC . want to get the public on your side - then book your tickets today….

#148. If the McCanns are innocent (and they say they are 100%) then what is the problem with just telling the truth? Get themselves ruled out of the equation and let the PJ hot foot it up the HRH Charlie’s laptop in Highgrove and get the maid’s address. Could yet all be wrapped up on Day 150.

147, Carmen,
Someone suggested limiting the length of posts here, yesterday, I think. It wd be a good idea!
September 30th, 2007 at 1:14 pm
Can the Mc representative here please go a relay that question to Mrs M :
“If you are prepared to do ANYTHING to find Madeleine, which plane is booked for your return to Portugal to co-operate FULLY with the PJ?”
Could we have an urgent press release by the ever-so-efficient PR team please?
September 30th, 2007 at 1:13 pm
Lets start a petition (along the lines of aunt philly)…
We believe that K & G should return to Portugal ASAP and answerer the PJ’s questions!!
(I will pay for the flight -& leave the twins here - I’ll look after them)
September 30th, 2007 at 1:11 pm
142, man on a hill,
I’m curious to know when you first suspected the parents were involved.
September 30th, 2007 at 1:11 pm
#139 Noseycow. I have been saying this for two days. But now that KM has come out and said that she will do ANYTHING, even if it means she might have to risk going to prison…..well what is to stop her returning to Portugal? Its called putting your money where your mouth is!
September 30th, 2007 at 1:11 pm
Rosemary - you and I both - but we would have answered all the pj’s questions and MORE, God they would not have been able to shut me up…..
September 30th, 2007 at 1:09 pm
I would risk prison and more if it meant finding my child, certainly
September 30th, 2007 at 1:08 pm
I think that the killing of Madeleine by her parents and the assisted cover up by their friends and the U.K newspapers will if not brought to trial destroy what’s left of the collective british soul in a similar way to that of America with the shooting of JFK (and Bobby r.i.p). This case is sorting the wheat from the chaff. It is time to find out if you really are the free thinking human being you claim to be, or a media driven zombie who will buy any any Goddamn thing your masters tell you to.
I would like to thank this site (spud-gun your video made my partner and I cry) for helping restore my faith in humanity which has been shaken more than usual over the past few months.
When will we see what we see? Hear what we hear? Smell what we smell?
This whole episode is a symptom of the fascist plague as first diagnosed by Dr William Reich over 60 years ago but has been with us for 10 thousand. And it does not end with the catching and imprisonment of the McCann’s. It ends when we all understand why they did what they did, then and only then will our children be safe.

105 - Sort of pathetic comment I’d expect. Check back to post 71. You called me Judge B***s**t.
Can’t even get that fact right.
September 30th, 2007 at 1:06 pm
132, Tony Bennett,
These polls are completely meaningless as the public do not have the evidence to make an informed guess. There are situations which would explain the parents strange body language during interviews, blinking, fast breathing, ear scratching, etc, etc. But we don’t have the facts. The “facts” we do have are constantly being denied weeks later.
September 30th, 2007 at 1:05 pm
A note to team McC - when it was suggested that, if we were in the same situation and innocent, we would not be frightened by the threat of prison - we would be shouting from the rooftops and answering EVERY question until our daughter was found, we based it on the assumption that we ANSWERED THE QUESTIONS THE POLICE HAD FIRST.
KM today stated that she doesn’t care if she goes to prison for talking about the case (roll on USA - & huge appearance fee), she will do anything if it helps focus the search for Maddie back on Maddie.
Well may I be so presumptious as to suggest that she can start by Flying back to Portugal - turning up at the police station (with or without lawyer - i don’t care) AND ANSWER THE QUESTIONS.
Stop spinning the story - accepting a massive fee for a tv appearance in the USA will never be seen as a genuine attempt to find your daughter, only perhaps laying the groundwork to relocate over their before this case comes to trial.

131, The Real Stig
They would have been better advised to avoid any publicity and rely on private investigators from the start and this girl is going to be kept out of sight, if she’s alive, and there are people with links to crime who would have talked. But did they want that, you have to ask?
September 30th, 2007 at 1:02 pm
LOL Moderation 134 …. nope I must say we don’t have that here YET! But I’m sure they’ll cotton on to it soon! (Wish they would … I could do with a bit of extra cash)
September 30th, 2007 at 1:02 pm
I bet the mc Canns get some sort of compensation for leaving their babies

Julie… I don’t know if its in SA, it started in the US and is now here… it refers to professional people, usually solicitors who are ‘out there’ touting for business.
Ambulance Chaser as: they see an accident and follow the ambulance to get the patient to sign up to sue.
I often go to London and in the shopping malls I’ve been approached many times and asked ‘have you had any sort of accident lately… we can take your case on a no win no fee basis’. I say no and they say ‘are you sure? something must have happened to you.. we can get you compensation……’

Given the day that’s in it - can anyone post up a link to Spudgun’s video.

======================================
80% not certain McCanns are innocent:
======================================
Just a reminder of the YouGov survey last Sunday as to whether people thought the McCanns were innocent or guilty regarding the ‘disappearance’ of Madeleine.
The figures were:
Guilty of involvemnt - 48%
Innocent of involvement - 20%
Unsure - 32%
Time had this comment:
QUOTE
Still, it was somewhat stunning when a YouGov poll published in the Sunday Times of London this week found that only 20% of Britons think Gerry and Kate McCann are completely innocent.
The McCanns, of course, initially helped whip up public interest in the disappearance. After Madeleine first went missing, they launched a massive media campaign that was endorsed by celebrities - billionaire entrepreneur Richard Branson this week started a McCann defense fund with around $200,000 of seed money - and they even got a meeting with the Pope. The YouGov poll indicated that some of the anti-McCann sentiment in the U.K. is a negative response to their self-generated publicity.
The poll’s overwhelming results did, however, surprise Kellner, given the press’s ongoing support for the McCanns. Nevertheless, he notes, “Even if you are reporting it in a sympathetic way, you are still saying they are suspects, and news of them being suspects swamps the sympathetic coverage.”
British readers may disagree with the tone of the coverage, or they may think the story is overplayed, but until the case is resolved in some fashion, the McCann media circus is here to stay.

Very astute of you!
I have said before that there are some people acting and commenting as if they are watching a TV show and somehow do not realise the McCanns are real people in an awful situation.

September 30th, 2007 at 12:53 pm
At the risk of sounding really thick … please explain the term “Ambulance Chaser” to me, the first time I’ve heard it is on this site (numerous times).

September 30th, 2007 at 12:52 pm
The Real Stig / Firestar… Agreed. I mentioned the description ‘Ambulance Chaser’ in relation to Tony Bennett and got no end of abuse (no problem!) but its still what I think. Absolutely.
September 30th, 2007 at 12:50 pm
Day 150 has been marked by an almost unsurpassed level of hyperbole from the press. This is now a pantomine with PJ firmly in the role of the baddie-the slurs, once ludicrous, are now “cruel”, “sickening”, and “a disgrace”.
M is now being held by a sacked maid in revenge against the MW resort-although a huge reward is on offer and unclaimed 5 months on.
M is being spotted all over Morocco-a businessman saw her being bought shoes from a market stall.
K and G are consulting top pyschics(G a tad sceptical) in hope that the spirit world will come up trumps while PJ - BOO - stuff their fat faces and think up new ways to turn the knife.
Have the lunatics taken over the asylum?
September 30th, 2007 at 12:50 pm
#116 and 117. Absolutely right. So I really cannot understand how anyone can say that the McCanns are not getting any preferencial treatment based on some ‘old boys network’! And all these other celebrities jumping on selective bandwagons make me puke.
