Madeleine McCann: The Nanny Suspect, Amaral Policing And Jail
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
SUNDAY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE MYSTERY. BRING IT ON.”
The Sunday Express is not the Express, which has form some weeks led with the front-page banner “MADELEINE”. The Sundays Express goes its own way.
“McCanns remain defiant as they face 40 questions from UK police this week”
“Kate and Gerry’s fury as new sighting in Morocco by businessman is ignored”
SUNDAY MIRROR front page: “MADDIE HUNT: THE TRUTH.”
The truth… At last…
“DISGRACE.”
A picture of Madeleine McCann (on the right). A picture of Portuguese copper Goncarlo Amaral (left).
“Police have ignored 250 sightings of her” – and have investigated how many?
“Cop leading police probe works four hours a day” – Amaral’s not overworked and fresh.
“He has three-hour boozy lunches with pals” – Amaral holds lengthy meetings to discuss and masticate over the case with team.
“Puffing on a cigarette and knocking back beers, the man leading the world’s biggest missing child inquiry enjoys yet another long, boozy lunch.”
Good to know that the Mirror is not wasting its time and watching him.
STAR ON SUNDAY: “THREATS TO McCANNS.”
“Friends say the couple are ‘extremely concerned’ by the nature of the threats and are considering hiring extra security.
Last night a spokeswoman for the McCanns, both 39, confirmed that they had been sent what she described as ‘negative letters and fear mail’.”
INDEPENDENT: “Maddie ‘kidnapped by maid’, says email.”
“The McCanns’ spokesman, Clarence Mitchell, said they were ‘encouraged’ by the development.”
SUNDAY TELEGRAPH: Kate McCann will risk jail to find Madeleine
Kate McCann has been told by her legal team that she faces jail sentence if she flouts Portuguese law to discuss details of the four-year-old’s disappearance in a high-profile television interview.
She tells a “close friend”: “I will do what I must. What does any of it matter if it helps find Madeleine?”
“It is what Kate thinks will help,” a close friend tells the paper. “What choice does she have? Unless Kate and Gerry ignore the law and speak out, their chances of finding Madeleine will dwindle further. Better to risk prison if it helps find her.
“Will the Portuguese police really prosecute a mother whose sole aim is to find her daughter or at least, God forbid, discover the whereabouts of her body? Kate, most of all, believes risking a jail sentence is nothing compared to finding Madeleine.”
Who needs an interview with Kate with friends like that?
THE OBSERVER: “This limbo that lasts a lifetime,” writes Carol Sarler.
“The McCanns are said to be devastated by dashed hopes; if so, they must get used to it, for there will be more sightings, more dashing and, to add to their misery, more harassment of more innocent families. I know this because, having investigated the disappearance of Ben Needham on Kos in 1991, the unfolding of the McCann case has felt like one long, wretched, groundhog summer.
“Ben, recapped in a nutshell: his grandparents, Eddie and Chris Needham, moved from Sheffield to Kos with their teenage son Stephen, daughter Kerry and her boyfriend and their son, Ben…
“…The singular difference between the Needhams and the McCanns is, crudely, class. Eddie has homemade tattoos on his knuckles, Chris was a grandmother at 38, Kerry and her boyfriend - a man known, as they say, to the police - lived in a council block. Perhaps this explains why, throughout their ordeal, nobody from the British consulate in Athens once got off their butt or went to Kos to help or support; surgeon Gerry McCann, by contrast, mobilised the world.”
“Arabic adverts aid Madeleine hunt”… “Despite the disappointment of last week’s misleading sighting of a blonde girl in the Moroccan town of Zaio, the McCanns believe that their daughter might be somewhere in the country.”
TIMES: No Madeleine news today.

But friends of the couple accused police of inventing theories without any evidence.
One said: “How can you tell what anyone died of without a body, it flies in the face of reason. There appears to be leak after leak to smear the name of the McCanns.”
(The friend said whilst smearing the PJ)

But “call me Christine” Keela “pinpoints” the blood with her nose. That proves it’s all true M’Lud…

This IS me!
40. Madeleine fell down ten steps. The McCanns covered up the accident because they thought a post-mortem might otherwise show them to be negligent parents who had drugged their child. (???!!!!)

Andy 440 - of what?
They did leave the kids - so they are guilty of neglect they left the kids alone every night except the first. Have they denied that? Do you deny that?
I think thats what should be the focus. I dont think they killed her (I have no evidence of that at all).
They know that to admit that they thought it might be a risk would open them to a legal challenge. They are not stupid people, they have guarded well against such a charge, as kate, as a GP, will be fully briefed. I think she was nervous about leaving the kids, but that they were sedated to stop them wandering. I think the people who abducted her had been around the area and Kate had felt uncomfortable in using the baby sitting service (as I have said here before).
If she admitted that, she would open up the possible charge of being aware of the risk.
I just wish people like Martin Brunt would not abuse their position and just defend without considering all the facts. I just watched a bit of tonights programme on sky, he has simply atacked the PJ. Thye were being influenced by Sky involvement and UK Government involvement, why doesnt he mention that?
Shame on you Martin!

This definitely not me!!
Mods and Admin, please say so. (Do you work on Sundays?!)
I think many people do wish they had a relationship like the one between G and K but I do NOT wish them to be charged because of that. I think it’s probably all that keeps them going at times.
Says it all about this forum, though.

401 firestar “i just wondered whether many of you have bought an educational book anytime in the last year or so?”
For me, the most educational experience was reading “No Stone Unturned: The True Story of the World’s Premier Forensic Investigators” by Steve Jackson (Pinnacle, 2006). I found the chapter on the creative use of cling-film especially interesting. And who knew one could have so much fun with duct tape?
On a lighter note, I found “No Stone Unturned: Years of Deception” by J. Rose (AuthorHouse, 2004) an inspiring, encouraging read in these difficult times.

Breaking news… Now she fell down the stairs…
http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/news/article-23414439-details/Portuguese+police:+‘Madeleine+died+after+falling+down+stairs+at+holiday+flat’/article.do
And well done to doggies Eddie the Sniff and Christine Keela for finding the evidence…
“Madeleine McCann died in a fall down steep stairs at her parents’ holiday apartment, Portuguese police claimed today in the latest astonishing leak from inside the investigation.
A police report has pinpointed a set of ten stairs leading up to the McCann family apartment’s patio doors, it was claimed.
The report was based on the findings of two British sniffer dogs who allegedly found the “scent of death” and microscopic traces of blood inside the apartment and on Kate McCann’s clothes.

Thanks for your comments. I haven’t been able to stomach reading more than a couple of entries in Mr McCanns blog for the same reasons as you point out so congratulations for reading them all.
Does anyone know whether Mr McCann kept a blog of life before Madeleine disappeared? If not then it appears a strange time to start one.
Perhaps aide memoires for a future book?

Well, monitoring a site is a good first step and well done to you! next step is to read the posts and then BINGO you can see all the scores of reasons why they are guilty. So it’s kind of a “staged” process. Stage one then stage two.
And that slightly bigger key next to the “A” key (well on Apple computers anyway) makes all the letters go nice and small…

Some of the possibilities for the McCanns’ direct involvement in their daughter’s disappearance/death?
1.The murder was planned before ever they went to Praia da Luz with some or all of the group of friends involved by prearrangement in a cover.
2. As 1 but with the additional planning of a huge fund which they could all share once the child had been got out of the way.
3. Madeleine was killed accidentally by over-sedation probably by K. They contacted O’Brien and Tanner who, as good mates, quickly agreed to help them cover up the death, dispose of the body etc. They hid the body in a fridge before dinner, fooled everyone else, and moved the body weeks later, burying it maybe on the way to Fatima or to Huleva or possibly getting someone else to do it while they G and K were on the way to Rome.
4. As 3 but, between 6.30 and 8.30pm on 3rd May, when this happened, the McCanns or O’Brien got a boat and dumped the body out at sea, getting back in time for dinner at 8.30pm with the others in the tapas bar. Unfortunately nobody remembers seeing this happen OR the only people who saw it have either forgotten or don’t have TV’s or read papers or maybe haven’t noticed the posters of missing Madeleine all around the area. Tanner then made up a story of seeing a man carrying what could have been a child.
5. Similar to 3 or 4 but it was O’Brien who provided the sedation, maybe because Kate has forgotten what she knew a few years ago well enough to graduate as a fully qualified anaesthetist.
5. Either 3 or 4 but with the addition that O’Brien and Kate were having an affair. (But Tanner still helped them by making up the sighting of the man carrying….)
6. Madeleine was killed accidentally when one of the parents lost their temper and hurt her so badly as to kill her. THEN they phoned O’Brien etc. etc. as above.
7. Because they are intelligent, the McCanns were capable of concocting a world-wide, cunning cover-up plan very quickly after killing their child as well as sorting the hiding/disposing of the body.
8. The McCanns were initially capable of superb acting in appearing so calm and normal in the tapas bar, and G to Jeremy Wilkins outside the apartment at 9.10pm, and also later when they changed totally and appeared desperate on discovering the child missing and seeming grief-stricken in the first weeks. (All their family members and friends were fooled by their excellent acting for four years before this holiday as well because they appear to have believed that the McCanns were lovely parents who cared deeply for all their children.) The McCanns have either had the acting ability to continue to dupe all their family, close friends, colleagues etc. SINCE the event, OR everyone they know is in on the cover-up conspiracy with them. However, their ability to act suddenly failed later as they were unable to portray grief since the early days in the way some people think they should.
9. Most or many people are pretending to believe in the McCanns’ innocence (on the basis of evidence to date) and support them. This is because the McCanns are Catholics or freemasons.
10. Most or many people DO believe in the McCanns’ innocence (on the basis of evidence to date) but this is because they are prejudiced in their favour because they are white, professional, well-off and middle-class.
11. Most or many people do believe in the McCanns’ innocence (on the basis of evidence to date) but this is because they are too stupid to know that parents can harm or kill their children.
12. The McCanns are very powerful and can influence the result of the next election so politicians are pretending to support them.
13. Madeleine is not dead and hasn’t really disappeared. The McCanns know very well that Madeleine is fine. They PLANNED her apparent “disappearance” so that they could set up a huge fund. When Madeleine reappears they will simply pocket the dosh without the auditors noticing a missing million.
14. Because of her slightly defective eye, the McCanns found they could not love Madeleine after years of waiting and IVF so they sold her to someone. They hide their rejection of their child by referring to her often as “our lovely daughter, Madeleine” and also fooled all their family and friends into thinking they DID love her.
15. You can tell by looking at that apparently delightful happy family photograph of the McCann family that the parents didn’t love Madeleine. You can tell this because they are holding the twins, then babies, but Madeleine is an inch or two to the side and is clearly only pretending to smile.
16. The McCanns hired private detectives thus insulting the PJ who were doing a perfectly good job and clearly wasting the money in the fund.
17. The McCanns did NOT hire private detectives, thus proving they didn’t care about their daughter and clearly failing to use the fund properly.
18.The McCanns have done a lot to actively raise awareness about the plight of missing children. It has all been obvious acting on their part. This proves they are probably guilty.
19. The McCanns never showed the slightest interest in anyone but their own daughter. This proves they are very selfish and probably guilty.
20 The McCanns have never showed any real interest in their daughter. This proves they never loved her and are probably guilty.
21. The McCanns included Morocco in their travels, where there were reported sightings. They deliberately wanted to be seen in some of the places where there had been sightings. This proves they are probably guilty.
22. The McCanns did NOT travel to Morocco where there were reported sightings. This proves they are probably guilty because they knew she couldn’t be there as they had already killed her.
(They did go to Morocco.)
23. The McCanns are pretending to take comfort in their faith. This proves they are probably guilty.
24. The McCanns DO take comfort in their faith but only because they are trying to assuage their guilt at having killed Madeleine, accidentally or otherwise.
25.The local priest gave the McCanns the key to his church. He pretended this was because they wanted to be able to pray there privately.
26. The McCanns only went to mass at the local church whenever it offered a photo-opportunity.
27. The priest knows they’ve buried Madeleine somewhere near or in the church. He probably gave them the key to make this easier for them to do.
28. The priest is the kidnapper and the Mccanns know it. So does the Pope.
29. The Vatican is involved in the huge cover-up conspiracy. That’s why the Pope saw the Mccanns , with several thousand others on the same day, and why he gave them a couple of moments to bless the picture of Madeleine.
30. The Vatican wants to pretend it isn’t involved in the cover-up conspiracy and that’s why there haven’t been any big statements from leading Catholic spokespeople.
31. Madeleine had a terrible family life. You can tell this because the McCanns have deliberately shown us photos of her laughing and apparently enjoying her life. They’ve suppressed photos showing how unhappy she really was or they’ve doctored (sorry!) the ones they have shwon us.
32. There is compelling forensic evidence showing that the McCanns killed Madeleine, hid her body, maybe more than once, and finally buried it secretly but because the Portuguese don’t want to annoy the UK Catholics/freemasons/anglicans/politicians/police/journalists/royals/PM, they are not charging them.
33. There is insufficient evidence, in the view of the Portuguese judge, to charge the McCanns but this does not mean they should not be judged as definitely guilty by any of us.
34. The McCanns have been incredibly stupid to think they could get away with this cover-up. The powers-that-be are about to arrest them.
35. The McCanns have been incredibly clever to plan this cover-up and will get away with it. The powers-that-be would never arrest them.
36. The McCanns left their children asleep 50 yards away in their apartment, only checking on them every half hour. This proves they do not love their children and are probably guilty of the crime of covering up the killing or selling of their child, arranging a huge fund to ensure lifelong wealth for themselves and duping the world.
37. The McCanns do not cry in front of the cameras. This proves they are probably guilty.
38. Occasionally their voices do waver. This proves they are trying to act grief and are probably guilty.
39. People who know them, including reporters who have got close to them in the past few months, say Kate weeps in private, often just after an interview, but this is a lie. K wept on the plane home from Portugal but this was probably an onion in her hanky. G was near to tears on arrival at the airport but this was cynical acting.
Anyone like to add to the possible theories? No sure I can remember them all.
40?

Oh dear, I knew I’d find an idiot on here eventually! It was a rhetorical ‘me’. They need to apologise to everyone to make sure that a proper precedent is set. They are without a doubt guilty of failing in their duty of care to their daughter and their twins.
And to progress your use of the ’sackcloth and ashes’ analogy - they are believers in a faith which was created to keep people in their place at a time when such punishments were the norm. So if they still think there is a deity who allows the things which go on to happen (child abuse etc - in fact its a catholic pastime I understand!) then they also need to recieve appropriate punishments.
I suppose you think its ‘ok’ to abandon your kids to go have a good time?
September 30th, 2007 at 6:21 pm
going back to Gerry’s blog - interesting points:
Day 33 - Kates parents often travel to Leicester at the weekends - particularly helpful when I’m on call and Kate is left to look after the 3 children alone…
(isn’t it normal for mothers to look after children when hubby’s at work??? Could she not cope???)
‘I’m sure that if Madeleine is in Morocco she will be found …all the children seem to know her’
Also noted that the twins are put into the kids club at weekends.. just figure that that’s unusual even for parents who use full time childcare facilities…
