Madeleine McCann: The Nanny Suspect, Amaral Policing And Jail
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
SUNDAY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE MYSTERY. BRING IT ON.”
The Sunday Express is not the Express, which has form some weeks led with the front-page banner “MADELEINE”. The Sundays Express goes its own way.
“McCanns remain defiant as they face 40 questions from UK police this week”
“Kate and Gerry’s fury as new sighting in Morocco by businessman is ignored”
SUNDAY MIRROR front page: “MADDIE HUNT: THE TRUTH.”
The truth… At last…
“DISGRACE.”
A picture of Madeleine McCann (on the right). A picture of Portuguese copper Goncarlo Amaral (left).
“Police have ignored 250 sightings of her” – and have investigated how many?
“Cop leading police probe works four hours a day” – Amaral’s not overworked and fresh.
“He has three-hour boozy lunches with pals” – Amaral holds lengthy meetings to discuss and masticate over the case with team.
“Puffing on a cigarette and knocking back beers, the man leading the world’s biggest missing child inquiry enjoys yet another long, boozy lunch.”
Good to know that the Mirror is not wasting its time and watching him.
STAR ON SUNDAY: “THREATS TO McCANNS.”
“Friends say the couple are ‘extremely concerned’ by the nature of the threats and are considering hiring extra security.
Last night a spokeswoman for the McCanns, both 39, confirmed that they had been sent what she described as ‘negative letters and fear mail’.”
INDEPENDENT: “Maddie ‘kidnapped by maid’, says email.”
“The McCanns’ spokesman, Clarence Mitchell, said they were ‘encouraged’ by the development.”
SUNDAY TELEGRAPH: Kate McCann will risk jail to find Madeleine
Kate McCann has been told by her legal team that she faces jail sentence if she flouts Portuguese law to discuss details of the four-year-old’s disappearance in a high-profile television interview.
She tells a “close friend”: “I will do what I must. What does any of it matter if it helps find Madeleine?”
“It is what Kate thinks will help,” a close friend tells the paper. “What choice does she have? Unless Kate and Gerry ignore the law and speak out, their chances of finding Madeleine will dwindle further. Better to risk prison if it helps find her.
“Will the Portuguese police really prosecute a mother whose sole aim is to find her daughter or at least, God forbid, discover the whereabouts of her body? Kate, most of all, believes risking a jail sentence is nothing compared to finding Madeleine.”
Who needs an interview with Kate with friends like that?
THE OBSERVER: “This limbo that lasts a lifetime,” writes Carol Sarler.
“The McCanns are said to be devastated by dashed hopes; if so, they must get used to it, for there will be more sightings, more dashing and, to add to their misery, more harassment of more innocent families. I know this because, having investigated the disappearance of Ben Needham on Kos in 1991, the unfolding of the McCann case has felt like one long, wretched, groundhog summer.
“Ben, recapped in a nutshell: his grandparents, Eddie and Chris Needham, moved from Sheffield to Kos with their teenage son Stephen, daughter Kerry and her boyfriend and their son, Ben…
“…The singular difference between the Needhams and the McCanns is, crudely, class. Eddie has homemade tattoos on his knuckles, Chris was a grandmother at 38, Kerry and her boyfriend - a man known, as they say, to the police - lived in a council block. Perhaps this explains why, throughout their ordeal, nobody from the British consulate in Athens once got off their butt or went to Kos to help or support; surgeon Gerry McCann, by contrast, mobilised the world.”
“Arabic adverts aid Madeleine hunt”… “Despite the disappointment of last week’s misleading sighting of a blonde girl in the Moroccan town of Zaio, the McCanns believe that their daughter might be somewhere in the country.”
TIMES: No Madeleine news today.

Oh dear, I fear this falling down the stairs stuff isn’t what Comical Clarrie wanted to see breaking on day 150…
Remember the PJ have probably been sitting on this for many weeks. Since Eddie the Sniff and Christine Keela were there, in fact… As I mentioned above I’m expecting them to do lots of things now to piss the McCannics off…
Bird Bremmo and Fortune call..

I think PJ are still looking for a body and are somewhat confident they can produce it.

485.
The reason they’ve not yet been arrested (same as many other suspects in a missing persons’ case or murder investigation w/o the body especially) is because the police and detectives need time to put the pieces of the puzzle together.
Several vital components of this process take time like interviewing witnesses and suspects; testing DNA samples; making the circumstantial evidence they have more “solid” so that it will be 100% convincing in court; psychological profiles of main suspects etc…
Besides, they’ve only been named arguido 3 weeks ago.
And since this case is so high profile PJ have more pressure on them than in other missing person/murder investigation. They have to curl their tildes and accent their e’s perfectly before they can make an arrest.
Criminal cases take time to put together. This is not a tv programme. Some cases like this one take years to prosecute.

502 Exactly!!!
If she were dead when they brought her in the apt - she wouldn’t have been spewing blood but head wounds bleed profusely and she probably dripped a bit. Adult holding her would have been approximately the same height as window sill.
McC’s need to get to a country where they can’t be extradited.

And I too must congratulate Tony Bennett on the outing of ‘moderation’ as a Team McCann crony.
Superb piece of sleuthing.

499, Maria,
Calm down. There is nothing wrong with following a hypothesis. It is not ludicrous to suggest that a child who should not be left alone in apartment, but was, headed toward light and sound. If there were stairs there, it is not ludicrous to suggest she could have fallen down them.
If you simply will not accept anything which might not be flattering to these parents who clearly did not put their children before their own ‘fun’ then I suggest you go somewhere else. Like MSN.

Another reason I won’t be a regular here. The whole point of this is the anonymity. I say, throw caution to the wind.
What’ll they think of next, webcam blogging? Bad idea!!

Mary 340
The distraught couple plan to hold a heart-rending “reading” behind closed doors with an acclaimed medium.
Thank you, Mary for the link to this information.
1) it is another celebrity on the bandwagon;
2) Is this normal for devoutly catholic people;
3) does anyone really know how devout G&K were prior to the 3rd May?
4) How many of the supporters are RC?

494 - Nope. Not slow at all. They call me a “quick study”. But I only come on here once in blue moon. Usually when I’m bored or procrastinating from some of my real work. Which on a Sunday is easy to do. So I don’t keep up with the news like you as a regular, might do.
Just so you know, I’d love to read your books. I think you write well. I don’t agree with you too often, but you do write very well

the bodily fluids were in the car.
the blood could have been on the steps.
no vomiting it all over the walls, just a badly cut head, and then dragged inside.
September 30th, 2007 at 6:57 pm
498 - sorry i think you missed my point, i can understand totally how she could fall down stairs, i just dont understand where the stairs were.
September 30th, 2007 at 6:55 pm
480 Yes firestar, I remember.
Blood was found in the fridge of the mother of Joana Cipriano. Was that before or after she was beaten up by the police to get a confession….although….wait….. THEY said she’d fallen down a flight of stairs???????!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Steps and stairs sure are handy!
Any adults posting? Waste of time once the kids gets online! “GET BACK TO MSN PLEASE KIDS!”
Bye.
Any other Marias this evening will NOT be me.

i think the reintroduction of some medieval thing may be appropriate under the circumstances.
September 30th, 2007 at 6:53 pm

So let me get this straight.
Portuguese laws prevents the McCanns from saying a Dickie Bird about police investigations. Which means thay can say just about nothing.
They are hauled into the police, accused of accidentally sedating their daughter to death. They are made suspects.
The police then leak allsorts, including these fabled 40 questions to the media, something the McCanns cannot officially respond to without risking imprisonment.
The chunky files of evidence are forwarded to a judge who has 10 days to respond. He is not convinced.
And now, the police have decided, seeing as the sedation thing didn’t impress the judge, that Madeleine died in a fall.
What the hell is happening in this police force? This is a joke! Four months of building a case and piles and piles of documentation doesn’t impress the judge, so they throw the dice and come up with a fall!?!?
I started losing faith in the Portuguese police when they hauled the McCanns in. Now I have little but contempt for them.
September 30th, 2007 at 6:53 pm
confused???? can someone please help me understand where the stairs are? I thought the so called abductor was supposed to have taken Maddy either through a window or through the door or whatever., I dont get where the stairs come into it, I understood it was on ground level.
September 30th, 2007 at 6:53 pm
Wasn’t the blood on the stairs ‘detected’ by the Brit dogs at the time? I know I read it somewhere…. must have a look!
Every breath you take: you’re a bit slow then. I thought everyone knew who I was. Its no secret.
