Madeleine McCann: The Nanny Suspect, Amaral Policing And Jail
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
SUNDAY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE MYSTERY. BRING IT ON.”
The Sunday Express is not the Express, which has form some weeks led with the front-page banner “MADELEINE”. The Sundays Express goes its own way.
“McCanns remain defiant as they face 40 questions from UK police this week”
“Kate and Gerry’s fury as new sighting in Morocco by businessman is ignored”
SUNDAY MIRROR front page: “MADDIE HUNT: THE TRUTH.”
The truth… At last…
“DISGRACE.”
A picture of Madeleine McCann (on the right). A picture of Portuguese copper Goncarlo Amaral (left).
“Police have ignored 250 sightings of her” – and have investigated how many?
“Cop leading police probe works four hours a day” – Amaral’s not overworked and fresh.
“He has three-hour boozy lunches with pals” – Amaral holds lengthy meetings to discuss and masticate over the case with team.
“Puffing on a cigarette and knocking back beers, the man leading the world’s biggest missing child inquiry enjoys yet another long, boozy lunch.”
Good to know that the Mirror is not wasting its time and watching him.
STAR ON SUNDAY: “THREATS TO McCANNS.”
“Friends say the couple are ‘extremely concerned’ by the nature of the threats and are considering hiring extra security.
Last night a spokeswoman for the McCanns, both 39, confirmed that they had been sent what she described as ‘negative letters and fear mail’.”
INDEPENDENT: “Maddie ‘kidnapped by maid’, says email.”
“The McCanns’ spokesman, Clarence Mitchell, said they were ‘encouraged’ by the development.”
SUNDAY TELEGRAPH: Kate McCann will risk jail to find Madeleine
Kate McCann has been told by her legal team that she faces jail sentence if she flouts Portuguese law to discuss details of the four-year-old’s disappearance in a high-profile television interview.
She tells a “close friend”: “I will do what I must. What does any of it matter if it helps find Madeleine?”
“It is what Kate thinks will help,” a close friend tells the paper. “What choice does she have? Unless Kate and Gerry ignore the law and speak out, their chances of finding Madeleine will dwindle further. Better to risk prison if it helps find her.
“Will the Portuguese police really prosecute a mother whose sole aim is to find her daughter or at least, God forbid, discover the whereabouts of her body? Kate, most of all, believes risking a jail sentence is nothing compared to finding Madeleine.”
Who needs an interview with Kate with friends like that?
THE OBSERVER: “This limbo that lasts a lifetime,” writes Carol Sarler.
“The McCanns are said to be devastated by dashed hopes; if so, they must get used to it, for there will be more sightings, more dashing and, to add to their misery, more harassment of more innocent families. I know this because, having investigated the disappearance of Ben Needham on Kos in 1991, the unfolding of the McCann case has felt like one long, wretched, groundhog summer.
“Ben, recapped in a nutshell: his grandparents, Eddie and Chris Needham, moved from Sheffield to Kos with their teenage son Stephen, daughter Kerry and her boyfriend and their son, Ben…
“…The singular difference between the Needhams and the McCanns is, crudely, class. Eddie has homemade tattoos on his knuckles, Chris was a grandmother at 38, Kerry and her boyfriend - a man known, as they say, to the police - lived in a council block. Perhaps this explains why, throughout their ordeal, nobody from the British consulate in Athens once got off their butt or went to Kos to help or support; surgeon Gerry McCann, by contrast, mobilised the world.”
“Arabic adverts aid Madeleine hunt”… “Despite the disappointment of last week’s misleading sighting of a blonde girl in the Moroccan town of Zaio, the McCanns believe that their daughter might be somewhere in the country.”

I’m back.
5 Minute warning to Sky News.
Time to get coffee, a sarnie, or popcorn, whatever takes your fancy.

534 Ian.
I didn’t say the judge chucked out the case. I said the judge was not convinced. I said the judge was not impressed. You really should read and understand things before you comment on them. Otherwise you look a little silly don’t you?
Thank you for informing me there is an investigation happening. After 150 days of one of the biggest media events relating to a missing person ever, I really wasn’t clear on that one!
September 30th, 2007 at 7:25 pm
I’ve just heard on the news that the PJ have another theory about Madeleines disappearance. I didn’t catch it all. Anyone else hear anything?

Starsky dear ARSE blows around on occasion, he’s an obnoxious little fart, but we love him and his alter ego is ok enough toactually reply to.

541. Ian,
I think all of us should ignore ImModeration from now on and just as the McCann’s ignored Madeleine - Moderation will magically disappear.

514 Dee - we are thinking along the same lines. I am trying to catch up with reading the posts and type an answer. You are just much quicker than me!

Your suppositions arent logical.
She may have dies when she fell. End of story.
But in the end, the only really important point is that the Mccanns failed in their duty of care. Thye as good as abducted or killed her themselves. They know that - but career and not being prosecuted for neglect is of course the most important thing isnt it?
September 30th, 2007 at 7:21 pm
536. Krissie,
There aren’t any solid facts coming out due to the secrecy law in Portugal although changed a few weeks back PJ have decided to retain on Madeleine’s case.
We are all (including the hypocrite who calls themselves “Moderation”) basing our theories and insights on innuendo and speculation.
So it is futile to ask for facts because the only ones we know for sure is that the Mccanns left their children unattended and Madeleine is missing. Anything else may or may not be factual. Regardless of what some of the people on Anorak wish you to believe or what the UK press want you to eat for breakfast.

this link says that the Brit dogs detected blood on the stairs, but they were there weeks ago weren’t they? I just know I read it before somewhere…..

513 - LOL - That’s a good chuckle.
OK, I am off to a enter a dog show.
Sorry, to enter my dogs in a dog show.
I wouldn’t mind being a dog though.
I like dogs better than people. For the most part. They are more loyal, respectful and loving than most people are capable of being. Not to mention smarter than a few posters I know.
Quote of the day: If I could clone people with dogs, the world would be a much kinder, friendlier, gentler and more peaceful place to live”

Moderator. 532.
So arent you clever! Using others ID’s to make jokes when you lose the plot?
doesnt change the fact that you are an idiot and cannot puit a proper argumant together.
Your comment actually underlines the kind of people who are not able to understand - the Mccanns are guilty of neglect, hopefully not worse.

Just put my Pulse dvd on and I can’t tell the difference. Seriously though, I play the guitar, and credit where it’s due.

494. ImModeration,
The world doesn’t revolve around you. If someone doesn’t *know* who you are doesn’t make them “slow”. It means they have their priorities straight.
Who gives a f^*$ who you are. You’re an arrogant narcissistic hypocrit whose pedantic vitriolic voice is typically attached to a lonely person with delusions of grandeur who hasn’t been laid in a very long time.
I’ll say again what I have told you many times:
YOU ARE NOT SPECIAL
Get over yourself already.

Hmmmmm, blood on the stairs. I doubt she fell on them. If she had fallen, she would have cried and someone possibly would have heard her. If the fall was serious enough to knock her unconscious, there would have been no way that the McCanns would have known whether this was a simple concussion or a more serious type of cerebral trauma, possible neck trauma unless she had a CT scan. (Amongst the embalming kit, the generator and portable freezer, they could have had that in their holiday luggage though…) You do not die instantly with head trauma unless there is an accompanying broken neck. As dramatic and bloody as scalp lacerations can be, they are not the cause of immediate death. The devastating trauma happens under the skull.
Scalps are exceedingly vascular and bleed heavily. Obviously, the PJ have found some blood. The McCanns, or some of the T9, could have cleaned up the blood on the stairs, but that too would have possibly been noticed.
Maybe she was injured in her apartment and was carried upstairs to one of the T9’s apartment leaving blood specks on the way.

Could someone post me a link to PROOF, evidence, that the cadaver dogs found the “scent of death” on Kate, the car, the cuddle cat, anything? I know it has been widely reported in the press, but I’ve never seen any type of official confirmation of any of this. Therefore, to me, it’s so far nothing more than innuendo and rumour.
That said, I’ve also read that cadaver dogs can go WOOF to many other types of smells. The scent of death is clearly a dead end for anyone trying to prove the McCanns guilt. (One of several dead ends you guys are pursuing here).
SECOND, to Slyfox, HUH??? 24 hours after Madeleine disappeared, there weren’t reporters crawling all over Algarve yet. So that theory goes out the window… effort to distract, etc. Second, this rumor that Gerry got a hair cut and went jogging the day after Maddie disappeared is HEARSAY and was started on this forum by a woman who claims her “friend” saw these things. There is no proof either of these things are true.
Why don’t we stick to talking about facts?

Hey guy, think!
Its an inquisitorial justice system and the judge has NOT chucked out the evidence, he has given them the ok to proceed witht he investigation leaving the Mccanns as suspects.
They are suspects, I think many suspect them. They may or may not be right. Its what we call ‘an investigation’. Get it? An INVESTIGATION. Meaning people are INVESTIGATING. OK?

These supposed leaks from someone connected to the investigation are beginning to sound as odd as the stories coming from the McCann side of the case, as scenarios change.
Have the sniffer dogs returned to the scene of the death? If not, and the dogs pointed out the blood on the stairs before, was the leak about a possible oversedation as cause of death released to the public? Are these leaks from anyone in the position to know the truth, or just someone calling the media and pretending to be from the PJ offices?

Very good post and enjoyable to read. It does show how we are all speculating and are unable to be sure of the truth, whatever it is, at this point in time. I’m sure someone will come along and respond to the issues raised in some of your 39 points.

Half asleep, staggering about in a sedated state, might fall down? Arrive at steps, maybe might fall down? Ok? Get it?
Not too bright are you - presume you are biased and therefore not open to logical review of hypothesies?
