Madeleine McCann: The Nanny Suspect, Amaral Policing And Jail
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
SUNDAY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE MYSTERY. BRING IT ON.”
The Sunday Express is not the Express, which has form some weeks led with the front-page banner “MADELEINE”. The Sundays Express goes its own way.
“McCanns remain defiant as they face 40 questions from UK police this week”
“Kate and Gerry’s fury as new sighting in Morocco by businessman is ignored”
SUNDAY MIRROR front page: “MADDIE HUNT: THE TRUTH.”
The truth… At last…
“DISGRACE.”
A picture of Madeleine McCann (on the right). A picture of Portuguese copper Goncarlo Amaral (left).
“Police have ignored 250 sightings of her” – and have investigated how many?
“Cop leading police probe works four hours a day” – Amaral’s not overworked and fresh.
“He has three-hour boozy lunches with pals” – Amaral holds lengthy meetings to discuss and masticate over the case with team.
“Puffing on a cigarette and knocking back beers, the man leading the world’s biggest missing child inquiry enjoys yet another long, boozy lunch.”
Good to know that the Mirror is not wasting its time and watching him.
STAR ON SUNDAY: “THREATS TO McCANNS.”
“Friends say the couple are ‘extremely concerned’ by the nature of the threats and are considering hiring extra security.
Last night a spokeswoman for the McCanns, both 39, confirmed that they had been sent what she described as ‘negative letters and fear mail’.”
INDEPENDENT: “Maddie ‘kidnapped by maid’, says email.”
“The McCanns’ spokesman, Clarence Mitchell, said they were ‘encouraged’ by the development.”
SUNDAY TELEGRAPH: Kate McCann will risk jail to find Madeleine
Kate McCann has been told by her legal team that she faces jail sentence if she flouts Portuguese law to discuss details of the four-year-old’s disappearance in a high-profile television interview.
She tells a “close friend”: “I will do what I must. What does any of it matter if it helps find Madeleine?”
“It is what Kate thinks will help,” a close friend tells the paper. “What choice does she have? Unless Kate and Gerry ignore the law and speak out, their chances of finding Madeleine will dwindle further. Better to risk prison if it helps find her.
“Will the Portuguese police really prosecute a mother whose sole aim is to find her daughter or at least, God forbid, discover the whereabouts of her body? Kate, most of all, believes risking a jail sentence is nothing compared to finding Madeleine.”
Who needs an interview with Kate with friends like that?
THE OBSERVER: “This limbo that lasts a lifetime,” writes Carol Sarler.
“The McCanns are said to be devastated by dashed hopes; if so, they must get used to it, for there will be more sightings, more dashing and, to add to their misery, more harassment of more innocent families. I know this because, having investigated the disappearance of Ben Needham on Kos in 1991, the unfolding of the McCann case has felt like one long, wretched, groundhog summer.
“Ben, recapped in a nutshell: his grandparents, Eddie and Chris Needham, moved from Sheffield to Kos with their teenage son Stephen, daughter Kerry and her boyfriend and their son, Ben…
“…The singular difference between the Needhams and the McCanns is, crudely, class. Eddie has homemade tattoos on his knuckles, Chris was a grandmother at 38, Kerry and her boyfriend - a man known, as they say, to the police - lived in a council block. Perhaps this explains why, throughout their ordeal, nobody from the British consulate in Athens once got off their butt or went to Kos to help or support; surgeon Gerry McCann, by contrast, mobilised the world.”
“Arabic adverts aid Madeleine hunt”… “Despite the disappointment of last week’s misleading sighting of a blonde girl in the Moroccan town of Zaio, the McCanns believe that their daughter might be somewhere in the country.”
TIMES: No Madeleine news today.

if it turns out she was drugged and killed herself falling down the steps looking for her mother, then all this celeb stuff will make them possibly the most hated couple on earth, ever.

671. Yes it’s a bizarre sad story and the saddest is of course no one knows where Madeleine is or if she is sill alive.
About DNA: Sir Alec Jeffreys (scientist who pioneered DNA fingerprinting) has discredited the forensics before even reviewing the Birmingham team’s reports. He has also offered to testify on behalf of the McCanns if they are charged and a trial takes place. He also works at the same lab as Dr. David Payne.
Talk about glaring conflict of interest.

The clips of Gerry and Kate here don’t sound plausible at all…Kate’s fake quivery voice is worse than the worst B-movie actress would be capable of.

784 - I don’t think anyone is stitching up anyone. All I see is people searching for the truth, whether the PJ or the plod.

758 - Anonymous. A couple of weeks ago, I also wrote that Gerry McCann had designs on being the UK’s answer to John Walsh. I find his motives for publicity rather sinister at times.
755 Stevo - Good evening! The point about the McCanns being worried about being charged with child neglect is very valid. However, as a result of leaving their children alone, whilst not claiming responsibility for this, nor admitting the dangers of it, they claim Madeleine was abducted which is a horrific and terrifying ordeal for any child to have to endure. Whether they thought that an abduction would generate more public sympathy and reduce the possibility of being charged with child neglect is a point to consider.
My point is that no matter what excuse they came up with, the fact that these children were neglected and left alone would always come to light and be the main reason why something terrible happened that night.
A child accidentally(?) overdosing on medication, accidentally(?) falling down stairs and sustaining a fatal head injury or being abducted, possibly by a paedophile - do you think they chose the option which would generate the most public sympathy and detract from their negligence, and, in their arrogance, think that the public would not notice the child neglect?

Probably so regarding Straw’s son. Blair’s son is a different proposition. Blair sent a clear message to all under-18s that it’s ok to drink alcohol. Hence the binge drinking in the UK and the prevalance of that booze culture there….not to mention Blair’s government introducing 24 hour licensing.

770 What motive do the PJ have in ’stitching up’ G&K?
I couldn’t begin to answer that question. I can guess that the Portuguese police are under huge, possibly unfair pressure. Having said that, anecdotally we are led to beleive they led a pretty sloppy investigation from day one. It catches up with you eventually.
Are they stitching the McCanns up? Do they truly beleive the McCanns accidentally sedated Maddie to death or have they had a huge change of heart and opted for death by falling?
Were their tactics during an 11 hour interview with Kate far and reasonable or did they put the pressure on and turn on the psychological tactics to try and squeeze out an admission of guilt?
Don’t know.
Something about the Portuguese police does not feel totally above board though.

In response to articles that have been written on the lines that previous ‘innocent’ mothers have not cried in public or shown emotion in public which made us suspect them as we have with Kate;
-There are more things than just lack of emotion that have made us suspect Kate - there are two parents showing lack of emotion -not one for a start.
- Ok so she does not show emotion when talking about her missing child in public.
Other mothers in same situation cannot stop shaking and crying.
- However, she also shows no emotion when asked to look directly into the camera and send a messsage to her child - she offers no comfort and no eye contact, laughs nervously and puts her head to one side.
Other mothers in same situation plead and beg for someone not to harm their child and send a comforting message of love and hope directly to their child.
- Gerry also shows no emotion when writing in his blog about his child - actually about all his children!
Others write about their feelings and bring us to tears - he bores us to tears telling us about his jogging and meetings with famous people.
- They show no emotion about the toy that was last held by their child - despite the public ’show’ of clinging to the toy - in private she washed it.
I have not yet met a mother that could do this - the mere thought of washing ANY FAVOURITE toy held by their missing/presumed dead child would make them physically vomit!
Conclusion - No emotions on all occassions = parents that don’t love their children!

seems to be quite an incriminating post.
only thing is why would she lie?
i live near the yorkshire ripper but i didn’t go round making alibi’s for him.
are there suggestions she’s been paid, or what?

#758 & 761 Anonymous and Stevo. The whole thing is so sordid. Even if there WAS a third-party abduction, the way that the McCanns have used their daughter’s plight is appalling. No one will ever convince me that they are not enjoying their celebrity status and new lifestyle.
Reading Gerry’s blogs is the worst. Worse than hearing his and Kate’s sanctimonious victim garble. How quickly they seem to have forgotten the true little girl who has enabled them to meet the Pope, be greeted at the White House, fly on private jets and be interviewed ad nauseum by the sicophantic press. The little girl about whom all we really know is that she was born 4 years ago….oh yeh, and ’she was lovely’.
I will have to stop reading this forum so late at night, but it has been a huge comfort to know that there are other people out there who also are not buying into the whole McCann media circus.

737, Louis,
Do you know anything about the black saloon? I’ve wondered about this car for a long time, and thought it might have belonged to a relative or friend returning home that night.
Was it locally registered, according to the witnesses who saw it?
I read somewhere it was a large luxury saloon - seemed like it was known who the owner was.

STEVO;
Hello my friend. Much as I hate so say it, I would have to defend Jack Straw’s son on the drugs dealing!!(especially given that I hate Jack Straw, given that he is a sycophantic coward who desperately disagreed with Blair’s plan to hold hands with Bush and slaughter the Iraqis, but didn’t have the bottle to stand up against him). But alas, in the case of his SON, then what happened was that two very nice cuties, drooled all over him, promised him the night of his life if he could get them ‘a little something’, which he himself then got from his friend and BANG!! Front page spread!! I know this because I was pretty close to the MIRROR Investigations editor at the time, and I know the girlie’s he sent in as bait!!

Evidently with all the renewed sightings and activity, he’s obviously justifying his £75K per annum!

765. Thank you Paulo. And no it is not your English which is very bad.
I’ve commented on your site with my real name, Paulette. But cannot on Anorak because the immature McCann supporters think it’s amusing to make fraudulent comments under my user name.
I love your reports please keep up the great work!
PS ~ You won’t believe that several pro-McCanners STILL believe the UK press’ version of Joanna Cipriano’s murder.

i’m wondering if they haven’t always acted that way, but it’s taken this case to make me notice it.
it’s only because they’ve given no info officially that we’ve been digging about the way we have.
usually we all just follow what we’re told and forget it.

Hello boys and girls.
Given, as I occasionally am, to pour scorn on the British Media; it is rather interesting to see how Mitchell can command at least £75,000 per year.
Absolutely NOTHING by way of development in the Press for 18 weeks then, enter stage left Clarence Mitchell and POW!!! In the space of 9 days,4 alleged sightings, ONE look-alike photograph, one ‘mysterious’ lurker under the stairs and now a disgruntled Nanny, courtesy of a Royal link!! Now THAT’S what I call PR! What WILL the week bring?

I know. And also in the British Labour Party, Jack Straw’s son did/dealt drugs. How can you run a country and set good moral standards when you can’t keep them yourself or set good examples. Answer is - you can’t. That’s why a lot of Western nations are in a mess.

What motive do the PJ have in ’stitching up’ G&K?
They will be acutely aware of their prominent legal team and the requirement to be sure of any facts before they are officially released.
The PJ are actually in the driving seat. they have parents, under investigation, who have neglected (Apparently) their children whilst on holiday. They do not need to rush. The relations with the UK are already damaged, but we have short memories. I will travel to Portugal. Thus, no long-lasting erosion.
The PR machine has long since took over this case, and tonights’ Sky report is atypical of the varying accounts of what happened.
I for one, am inclined to belive there was foul play, but this is based only on what I have seen and read. If G&K are innocent, then great.
If not, then who knows?
We are obsessed, because the face of Madeleine is ever present, and we need to continue the hunt for her disappearance.
I am concerned with the manipulation of the media by both sides, and am eagerly awaiting some hard facts.
I have grave misgivings at what occured, as the apartment was not ‘child friendly’ and , IMO, was easily accessed from the roadway.
The stunning list of celebrities seems to grow daily, my prediction now, following the piece in the Sunday People, is for a prominent clairvoyant (McKenna) to be used as more propaganda. Diana will enter the fray somehow, and aren’t we missing David Cameroon?
Wher is Alec Salmand when you need him?

Not if you caused the accident. Not if you had been arguing with Madeleine and there was a tussle and she fell and cracked her head after you was at the end of your tether. I think if it had been a conventional accident then it would be a no-brainer anyway because you’d do the right thing and take Madeleine to a hospital…but wait…the McCanns are doctors remember so they’d most likely always have a DIY mentality. Why would you go to a hospital or seek a doctor when you are one? See…they are privileged and their reactions won’t be the same as yours or mine…(assuming you’re not a doctor of course).
September 30th, 2007 at 10:58 pm
761. The same can be said of the US though. Bush’s daughters were caught several times drunk and were under legal US age for alcohol. Also Jeb Bush’s daughter is a serious drug addict and it never gets much press. Gore’s kid has been caught twice drunk while driving and also high from marijuana. He was also caught with the pot in the car. Nothing happens to these kids and their parents make it like it was no big deal. What can we expect when the adults, like Clinton, commit perjury and adultery and are lauded as heroes?

Good evening to you Sunny,
perhaps you could post something a little more interesting, surely you have some genuine Opinion of the McCanns situation or their daughter you should like to share with us?
Your views on other posters on the other hand are becoming somewhat tedious
They are offically found so don’t worry PSS.

675 miss match
If you were an anaesthetist and wanted to sedate your own child, do you think you would use an antihistamine like a travel sickness tablet or cough mixture, or would you use something far more potent?
Surely something where a relatively small error in dosage would be fatal would have to be a very potent sedative?
The kids had had sun, sand, maybe wind and playing with other kids. In my experience that might have been enough sedative.

The Real Stig said:
“Paulo Reis also said elsewhere that When the Moroccan police investigated the Ollie sighting in Morocco they found no cctv evidence to back up her claim re the sighting. What he failed to mention was the lack of CCTV backup to her claim was because the HD on which it had been recorded had been wiped or overwritten - a fairly important detail to omit IMO”
I guess you have some difficulty in reading English. Or my English is very bad… This is what I wrote: Moroccan Police seized the CCTV video from the shop where Mari Olli said she saw Madeleine. In the video, there is Mari Olli, wife of Ray Pollard, from Groby, Leicester, buying a few things, but there is no blonde child - no child at all - among the clients, according to a source from the office of the head of Moroccan Police. ”
Emma Murphy, from ITV News, wrote, months ago, that “the HD on which it had been recorded had been wiped or overwritten.” That is not truth.
Moroccan Police seized the video and sent it to Portuguese Police, in May.

757. I know it’s pathetic and bizarre. I could get more information about Madeleine from the Interpol website!
The McCanns have said nothing very personal about Madeleine at all. Like what are her favourite games? Favourite foods? What’s something she often did or said which was cute or funny?
They’ve never released any video with Madeleine’s voice? I realise little children might sound very similar to one another but someone who is used to the nuances in the voices of children would be assisted by knowing what the little girl sounds like.
All of their ambiguity about The Real Madeleine whilst pimping her image is very disgusting.
