Madeleine McCann: The Nanny Suspect, Amaral Policing And Jail
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
SUNDAY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE MYSTERY. BRING IT ON.”
The Sunday Express is not the Express, which has form some weeks led with the front-page banner “MADELEINE”. The Sundays Express goes its own way.
“McCanns remain defiant as they face 40 questions from UK police this week”
“Kate and Gerry’s fury as new sighting in Morocco by businessman is ignored”
SUNDAY MIRROR front page: “MADDIE HUNT: THE TRUTH.”
The truth… At last…
“DISGRACE.”
A picture of Madeleine McCann (on the right). A picture of Portuguese copper Goncarlo Amaral (left).
“Police have ignored 250 sightings of her” – and have investigated how many?
“Cop leading police probe works four hours a day” – Amaral’s not overworked and fresh.
“He has three-hour boozy lunches with pals” – Amaral holds lengthy meetings to discuss and masticate over the case with team.
“Puffing on a cigarette and knocking back beers, the man leading the world’s biggest missing child inquiry enjoys yet another long, boozy lunch.”
Good to know that the Mirror is not wasting its time and watching him.
STAR ON SUNDAY: “THREATS TO McCANNS.”
“Friends say the couple are ‘extremely concerned’ by the nature of the threats and are considering hiring extra security.
Last night a spokeswoman for the McCanns, both 39, confirmed that they had been sent what she described as ‘negative letters and fear mail’.”
INDEPENDENT: “Maddie ‘kidnapped by maid’, says email.”
“The McCanns’ spokesman, Clarence Mitchell, said they were ‘encouraged’ by the development.”
SUNDAY TELEGRAPH: Kate McCann will risk jail to find Madeleine
Kate McCann has been told by her legal team that she faces jail sentence if she flouts Portuguese law to discuss details of the four-year-old’s disappearance in a high-profile television interview.
She tells a “close friend”: “I will do what I must. What does any of it matter if it helps find Madeleine?”
“It is what Kate thinks will help,” a close friend tells the paper. “What choice does she have? Unless Kate and Gerry ignore the law and speak out, their chances of finding Madeleine will dwindle further. Better to risk prison if it helps find her.
“Will the Portuguese police really prosecute a mother whose sole aim is to find her daughter or at least, God forbid, discover the whereabouts of her body? Kate, most of all, believes risking a jail sentence is nothing compared to finding Madeleine.”
Who needs an interview with Kate with friends like that?
THE OBSERVER: “This limbo that lasts a lifetime,” writes Carol Sarler.
“The McCanns are said to be devastated by dashed hopes; if so, they must get used to it, for there will be more sightings, more dashing and, to add to their misery, more harassment of more innocent families. I know this because, having investigated the disappearance of Ben Needham on Kos in 1991, the unfolding of the McCann case has felt like one long, wretched, groundhog summer.
“Ben, recapped in a nutshell: his grandparents, Eddie and Chris Needham, moved from Sheffield to Kos with their teenage son Stephen, daughter Kerry and her boyfriend and their son, Ben…
“…The singular difference between the Needhams and the McCanns is, crudely, class. Eddie has homemade tattoos on his knuckles, Chris was a grandmother at 38, Kerry and her boyfriend - a man known, as they say, to the police - lived in a council block. Perhaps this explains why, throughout their ordeal, nobody from the British consulate in Athens once got off their butt or went to Kos to help or support; surgeon Gerry McCann, by contrast, mobilised the world.”
“Arabic adverts aid Madeleine hunt”… “Despite the disappointment of last week’s misleading sighting of a blonde girl in the Moroccan town of Zaio, the McCanns believe that their daughter might be somewhere in the country.”
TIMES: No Madeleine news today.

I know I posted this yesterday but there were a few spelling errors and I didn’t post the link.
What I said was that a while ago I received a chain email which said: “As you are aware my neice is still missing and I am asking everyone I know to send this as a chain letter…We don’t believe she is in Portugal anymore. Madeleine’s aunt, Philomena McCann, has devised an email poster as she fears that Madeleine may have been taken to Spain where the girl’s disappearance has generated less attention.”
Here is the link to the poster:
http:/news.aol.co.uk/web-appeal-over-missing madeleine/article/2007051006380999001.
I’m not saying that anyone has killed anyone, right, but if for example a French couple came to England and found themselves in a position where they wanted to bury a body in consecrated Catholic ground, a good place to go would be Southern Ireland. Quite a feat, I know, but let’s assume it for the sake of argument. Anyone who has watched a road movie knows the bit about crossing the border into a different jurisdiction. The Irish police in my example might think: “A French person disappears on English soil, nothing to do with us.” A few hail Marys and you’re absolved.

75, hippiechickie,
Pat?
The rich rarely pay taxes and almost never go to jail
September 30th, 2007 at 12:14 pm
Judge ,perhaps they were allowed to leave the country, because they have no where to hide and could be picked up at will.
September 30th, 2007 at 12:13 pm
77 sadly i think you’re probably right

for those of you who haven’t worked it out yet, bennet is trying to raise support for his forthcoming madeline book.
September 30th, 2007 at 12:11 pm
69 - I don’t have any facts and neither do you. Did you see in the boxes. Can you say they were full up. Do you even know what was in the boxes. As far as the news went, they had paperwork in them. They can’t have led to much because the Judge allowed the McCanns to leave the country. So all in all, the facts speak for themselves,
They have diddley squat.

if you want to plug books, plug my website, it’s much leess biased towards tony bennet making money out of the whole affair.

74 judge..thats very interesting but what the hell has that got to do with anything?
September 30th, 2007 at 12:10 pm
IMHO if the PJ are eventually able to prove definite involvement in Madeleine’s disappearance by her own parents, they will NEVER serve a jail term for it.
My reasoning for saying this, is that there are too many reputations that will be trashed (of some very high profile people), and they will move hell to make sure that their reputations stay intact!

Interesting, I’ll bookmark it and keep trying. Thanks

Reading the posts today and the summary of what the papers say, I feel very despondent, tearful, crushed…..is it for the McCann’s ..NO…. is it for Maddie….YES but also about the divide that I used to protest about when I was young, have always knew existed but as I got older and a little bit more successful and busy with my life I chose to ignore/forget, paste over the cracks……..and that is the class/poverty divide that truly still exists in this ‘democratic’ ( satirical guffaw escapes) country of ours. Gordon Brown, Richard Branson, J K Rowling, etc……..giving money and or support to the McCann’s keep out of jail card and prove how wonderful they really are, despite their recent child neglect…….the haves get more because well they deserve it don’t they a nice upper middle class professional family….. ‘the ordinary lower salaried or benefit families well what does it matter if one of them is shot and killed before their twelve birthday’…..where are you for that family Sir bloody Richard Branson……..can’t you see them from your high balloon…course not you wouldn’t want to float over a poor Liverpool estate in case you caught a real conscience, now would you….no more posting for me because tears and key boards don’t mix well….

I have a book called the Encyclopedia of Serial Killers. In the introduction it has a section on killer couples. While I don’t believe the McCanns killed Madeleine, it makes interesting reading. It states:-
Killer couples will be involved in a sexual relationship, in which the male is generally the dominant party. It is an interesting phenomenon that, while both partners are usually found to have degenerate tendencies as individuals, it is only together that their ‘combined personality’ proves lethal.

62, FeketeP,
I wouldn’t get too upset by anything the Mirror prints.
Didn’t they report that Robert Maxwell was a spy working for the Mossad?
September 30th, 2007 at 12:04 pm
could it be that the team of spin finds the sacked nanny, offers her money to tell about several things: 1) how really distraught the mother was 2)that the mother shouted both “they’ve taken her” and “she’s gone” - because probably the first phrase is recorded and it is unwise to deny it completely, but much better to change order 3) that someone was kicking something on the boat, and this person was someone she met before (next day she saw him with his yellow jacket), - so people think it is someone new, where in fact she talks of imaginary Murat - 4) someone hides under the stairs - note that the witness is again the employee, and she does not want to be named because it would be obvious that 1 person coming with so many new details at once, remembered after 5 months, is talking nonsence.
After she told all this rubbish, the spin-team send the email saying that some ex-employee kidnapped the child. Police investigates, finds that the ex-employee lied - and we;ve got a brand new suspect! Clever!
Note that this is alll only my personal opinion.

look here judge bullsh@t would you be spouting your crap so quickly to defend a 25 year old single mother on a council estate. No i dont think so, your full of it matey
September 30th, 2007 at 12:01 pm
The Sunday Mirror article about Amaral I mentioned above ignores everything about the DNA evidence in the hire car, blood on the shuttered window, and cadaver dog reaction to scent of a corpse. It’s not biased, or anything. The cop in charge is a fat slob who never gets off his fat behind, it says. I thought Paulo Reis might like to link it on his site, as it supports his war of evidence.
I once worked for a brilliant man who, while not one for boozy lunches, sometimes used to sit at his desk in a darkened office just thinking, sometimes for hours, considering all the fine details.
September 30th, 2007 at 11:58 am
67 they have 10 boxes of evidence, dont you watch the news. the reason they haven’t acted is that they are hoping to find the body. your facts are bullsh@t
September 30th, 2007 at 11:55 am
Hey there Judge …. you aint gonna believe this, but it’s pouring with rain in sunny SA ….. yippeeee …. very much needed!
September 30th, 2007 at 11:55 am
64 - They have evidence of diddley squat. That is fact.
If they have evidence that Madeline is dead why haven’t they acted on the evidence. The Judge who reviewed the evidence would never have allowed a murder suspect to leave the country.
Unless you have personal knowledge of all the sightings I fail to see hoe you can make such a claim. It only takes one sighting to be correct to solve the case after all.

63 - Hello Julie long time no see. Hows sunny SA today?
September 30th, 2007 at 11:48 am
isn’t it strange how so many of these so called sightings of maddie that the witness is certain it was her, they never seem to get close enough to check her eyes and the “abductor” always seems to run away . What a load of BO@@OCKS.
the reason the pj dont follow up all these “sightings” is because they know they are all false. They have evidence that Maddie is dead imo
September 30th, 2007 at 11:47 am
Just watched the Sky News video, and two points that I have brought up quite some time ago, which are mentioned in this video are :
1. The likelihood of an abudctor taking the older child, when there were two younger children, with less vocuabulary and less likely to remember their past is not very high! An abductor would most certainly have taken a younger child!
2. Madeleine’s body will be found within a very close radius to where she disappeared from.
May God bless you little girl! The truth will out and your memory will live on in those who cared so much for you but never had the chance to know you!
September 30th, 2007 at 11:46 am
The Sunday Mirror’s article is going to annoy the Portuguese police so much that I bet they’ll summon the McCann’s back to Portugal just for the hell of it.

More pictures from Paulo Reiss that show just how far the apartment was from the Tapas Bar.
Again, apologies if they’ve already been posted.

55 - Peter Sutcliff is the prime example of police interviewing and dismissing someone as a suspect, (and in that case a false blood sample was given), and then arresting them over a totally unconnected event, (a motoring offence).
There are also the totally opposite scenarios such as Timothy Evans being found guilty of murdering his wife and unborn child, and who was then executed when it was Christie, (the story for the film 10 Rillington Place).
September 30th, 2007 at 11:44 am
55, The Real Stig,
I agree with a lot you say - particularly how paedophiles would keep children. This could be very similar to the Marc Dutroux case.
Perhaps all the evidence should be examined here - much better chance of a success solving it.

Sighting
Now that’s another interesting word. Good ol’ Office thesaurus has diddly squat. A look further afield brings up lots of UFO stuff. Until you go to the news search and it’s back to Bloody McCannLand again. Even auntie phil gets a mention:

Before the ugly betty police start ranting, I’m offski - some serious guitar practice is in order after last night’s lacklustre performance…
September 30th, 2007 at 11:37 am
“Puffing on a cigarette and knocking back beers, the man leading the world’s biggest missing child inquiry enjoys yet another long, boozy lunch.
Portuguese police chief Goncalo Amaral worked as little as four-and-a–half hours a day this week - despite a mountain of uninvestigated sightings of Madeleine McCann on his desk.
The Sunday Mirror has discovered that 252 possible tip-offs about the four-year-old have been reported to Amaral, any one of which might just lead to her being traced. But the vast majority have not even been checked.
….1.15pm: They are joined by a Nancy Dell’Olio lookalike, who wears a figure-hugging black dress. The woman greets Amaral by patting him on the backside and ruffling his thinning hair.”
September 30th, 2007 at 11:34 am
There’s a great article in today’s Sunday Mirror, about Amaral’s boozy lunches
“Exclusive: Disgrace of Madeleine Cop”, but the link won’t post.
