Madeleine McCann: ‘Bad Dad’ Gerry McCann, The Psychic Barber And Drugs
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “Madeleine was drugged but it was by kidnapper says her grandmother.”
Page 9: “Madeleine’s family: She was drugged…but not by parents.”
Eileen McCann, Gerry’s mother – says: “I really believe they [whoever took her] gave her a drug. There is no way they carried her out of there without her waking. If she was taken when she was sleeping by somebody she did not know, she would have screamed the place down.”
Alternatively, she was taken by someone she did know? Or Mrs McCann is just speculating.
“’BAD DAD’ GERRY” – Carlos Anjos, head of the Portuguese Police Federation, says Gerry, “a heart consultant”, is a “negligent father”. This is his “astonishing rant”.
THE SUN front page: “Mystics hunt for Maddie.”
Around 150 leads provided by mystics have been followed up.
Page 6: “ASK PSYCHIC BARBER TO HELP FIND MADDIE” – Clairvoyant Gordon Smith has been contacted by the family. Smith hosts TV’s Most Haunted show. He says he can tell if Madeleine is alive or dead. Mick is nicknamed “THE PSYCHIC BARBER”.
DAILY MIRROR front page: “McCANNS: SHE WAS DRUGGED.”
Page 5: “‘Madeleine must have been drugged..she would have screamed place down’” – GRANDMOTHER EILEEN McCANN YESTERDAY.”
“Couple call on psychic to help” – Ex-hairdresser Smith is a “wacky medium”.
Says he: “In order for it to work I need to sit with the closest relatives who would be the parents. Then I’d tune in and see what I can pick up. But I would always warn them that there’s a possibility nothing might happen.”
Best to warn them of that first…
DAILY MAIL page 5: “Now police leader mocks ‘negligent’ Gerry McCann over his fears that an abductor was in Maddie’s room.”
“Call for the ‘psychic barber’” – “Despite both being strict Roman Catholics, the couple have already made contact” with Gordon Smith.
DAILY STAR front page: “MADDIE I’LL FIND BODY IN DAYS. Parents call in psychic.”
Page 7: “MADDIE’S PARENTS CALL FOR PSYCHIC BARBER” – “I have offered my help for free,” says Smith. “I never charge for private readings. I have already assured them I will say nothing to the press.” Indeed, not. Best save it for the book.
DAILY TELEGRAPH page 15: “Police chief accuses McCanns of hindering inquiry” – Carlos Anjos accuses McCanns of using “diversion tactics”.
THE TIMES page 27: “McCanns ‘considering psychic help’”
THE GUARDIAN no Maddie new today.

980 Murder says (October 2nd, 2007 at 11:03 pm)
“TonyB - what about getting some people who’d donated to the FindMaddie fund to demand their money back, claiming it had been obtained by misrepresentation or something? Then either the Fund would have to return the money (which wouldn’t look too good), or you could run a token case or something like a class action to recover sums donated - giving you a chance to dissect that misrepresentation (and thus the McCann version[s] of events) in court”.
REPLY: Yes. I think people SHOULD demand their donations back bacause IMO there is already enough evidence in the public domain that the Fund was fraudulently set up. It is not being used to find Madeleine, nor to help other abused children and their families. It is largely l believe being used to help the McCanns’ self-defence fund. Little information is given out about where the money is going to and how much they have got in the fund.
I would be glad if people *did* reclaim their donations and then posted their experiences here. I think the operative word here is ‘breach of trust’.
If someone tried to sue for breach of trust, there would be the need to prove your case (on what is called ‘the balance of probabilities’). You would have to satisfy a judge that, on balance, the Trustees of the Fund had not acted in good faith in soliciting funds in the first place i.e. that their intentions were not exactly honourable.
There is also the question of whether the McCanns, and the Trustees they have roped in to help them, are guilty of the criminal offence of ‘obtaining money by deception/false pretences’. I think the police should be provided with some facts and asked to investigate this as a crime.
I’d appeal to anyone who has donated to write to the Trustees (the address is on the Find Madeleine website) demanding their money back. Something like this would probably do:
“Dear Trustees,
I willingly gave money to the Find Madeleine Fund as I thought it would be used to help find Madeleine and/or help other abducted children and their famlies. As far as I can see from all the press reports, it is mostly being used for other purposes, such as media advice for the McCanns, and the McCanns’ living expenses, as they haven’t gone back to work yet. This amounts to a breach of trust. Please refund my donation of £__ without delay.
Yours sincerely…”
The replies from The Fund’s Trustees could be very interesting

JUDGE Dread, What I am saying is that I was really joking about the organ thing. Although I did live in Paris, I have NO knowledge of any organ transplants there the week Maddie went missing. Tasteless joke I’m sure. But people post these wild and bizarre theories and do so with a straight face and they are all so SURE of themselves, based on no evidence, and so I was playing along. I was playing a little game to see how many people came along on that ride. I was making a point about how people believe w hat they want to believe, in the face of no evidence. I was making a point about how people LIE and call their lies FACTS and somehow people BELIEVE them. And my point was, that’s what I think a lot of people are doing , because they WANT (for whatever reason) to believe the McCanns killed their own daughter, so they just repeat falsehoods over and over to back up their belief.

The twiglets question was for firestar who (if memory serves me right) was enjoying them in her bath the other day…….and they are savoury sticks with marmite/vegemite on them.

The entire world in watching Portugal. They have to square the corners. What else can they do but hold an internal investigation?
October 2nd, 2007 at 11:29 pm
1016 Oh we all noticed!!! lol
1017 And why do you assume that?
1026 It’s not just Portia, I am too!

Overly defensive. Sometimes when a person is lying they will become extremely defensive, refusing to answer any questions and even accusing you of lying. This may mean they have something to hide.

1033. In several really old French films (from the 30’s, 40’s and 50’s) the story involved a character whose fantasy it was to live in the American south-west. Or a character would be fascinated with Chicago gangsters. I do know that British banks have a lot of their AMERICAN offices in Houston.

1029 - It makes as much sense as an alcoholic getting drunk on tea.
October 2nd, 2007 at 11:27 pm
Batman, not to my knowledge. Probably in the cities, but I don’t live in a city. What’s a twiglet? I seem to have some memory of a twiglet from my childhood - is it a kind of candy?
October 2nd, 2007 at 11:26 pm
1028 - 1018. That’s what a handful of creeps do here Krissie. It happens around this time frequently because it’s either when the American kids (I can use that phrase can’t I?)
LOL - now that’s funny!! Sure you can. You’ve used a hell of a lot worse than that on here. Let’s see, what was the last disgusting word you threw out there? Oh, yes another vulgarity. You said “Fuck off” and added a happy face.
Such class. Such sophistication. Such a butch.
October 2nd, 2007 at 11:25 pm
1026 - Krissie, you were adament that Madeleines organs had been sold to Parisian hospitals, and even stated you had researched the number of transplants at the time.
What is it you are saying now?
October 2nd, 2007 at 11:25 pm
1026. This site gets so crazy that even when joking it’s sometimes difficult to hear humour or that nuanced tongue in cheek speak. I was diligent and scrolled back through to the very beginning of your hoax theory - just to make sure!

It is 4 police and one retired chief inspector.

1032- Watch out. Too much TV will make you reeeallly stupid.
October 2nd, 2007 at 11:25 pm
1003 - can you get twiglets in the US?
October 2nd, 2007 at 11:24 pm
Actually, it’s true, we dont’ get many brits here, but we do get a lot of French people who move here to the Southwest. The french are really into that whole native/cowboy thing.
October 2nd, 2007 at 11:24 pm
1024 - LOL. So there are really people on this site who are so bored they’ll be happy to spend all day and night listening to someone make it all up.
Have you not heard of TV yet? It’s a wonderful invention and does the same thing. But you can relax and don’t need to type to create the fun.
October 2nd, 2007 at 11:22 pm
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and once we find out the truth, there most certainly will be some head shaking - and many will be surprised. Including me no doubt.
October 2nd, 2007 at 11:22 pm
On the right-to-silence - arguido connection, which has been discussed rather a lot on this thread:
I read at the time (though such reports are not always very reliable) that Kate was made arguido when she refused to answer the question ‘Did you sedate your children?’
October 2nd, 2007 at 11:22 pm
Judge Dread, well, STEVO and I had theorized that perhaps the McCanns had done some pre-trip work to type her tissue, then had her kidnapped alive and she wasn’t killed until they were ready to do the transplants. Makes sense, huh?
October 2nd, 2007 at 11:21 pm
1018. That’s what a handful of creeps do here Krissie. It happens around this time frequently because it’s either when the American kids (I can use that phrase can’t I?) have finished school and extra-curricular activities or chores (If American parents even make then do such a thing anymore) and their dim brains get their kicks starting trouble on-line because they are cowards in the real world.
Or it’s a Western European (my money is on a frustrated Englishman) who knows his wife isn’t going to give him tonight any so he gets his angst out on Anorak.
Either way it’s ridiculous. It’s always the women being attacked and being accused of being liars, fakers, scammers, transexuals etc….Noteworthy view into their troubled sexually frustrated misogynistic angry brain.
