Madeleine McCann: ‘Bad Dad’ Gerry McCann, The Psychic Barber And Drugs
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “Madeleine was drugged but it was by kidnapper says her grandmother.”
Page 9: “Madeleine’s family: She was drugged…but not by parents.”
Eileen McCann, Gerry’s mother – says: “I really believe they [whoever took her] gave her a drug. There is no way they carried her out of there without her waking. If she was taken when she was sleeping by somebody she did not know, she would have screamed the place down.”
Alternatively, she was taken by someone she did know? Or Mrs McCann is just speculating.
“’BAD DAD’ GERRY” – Carlos Anjos, head of the Portuguese Police Federation, says Gerry, “a heart consultant”, is a “negligent father”. This is his “astonishing rant”.
THE SUN front page: “Mystics hunt for Maddie.”
Around 150 leads provided by mystics have been followed up.
Page 6: “ASK PSYCHIC BARBER TO HELP FIND MADDIE” – Clairvoyant Gordon Smith has been contacted by the family. Smith hosts TV’s Most Haunted show. He says he can tell if Madeleine is alive or dead. Mick is nicknamed “THE PSYCHIC BARBER”.
DAILY MIRROR front page: “McCANNS: SHE WAS DRUGGED.”
Page 5: “‘Madeleine must have been drugged..she would have screamed place down’” – GRANDMOTHER EILEEN McCANN YESTERDAY.”
“Couple call on psychic to help” – Ex-hairdresser Smith is a “wacky medium”.
Says he: “In order for it to work I need to sit with the closest relatives who would be the parents. Then I’d tune in and see what I can pick up. But I would always warn them that there’s a possibility nothing might happen.”
Best to warn them of that first…
DAILY MAIL page 5: “Now police leader mocks ‘negligent’ Gerry McCann over his fears that an abductor was in Maddie’s room.”
“Call for the ‘psychic barber’” – “Despite both being strict Roman Catholics, the couple have already made contact” with Gordon Smith.
DAILY STAR front page: “MADDIE I’LL FIND BODY IN DAYS. Parents call in psychic.”
Page 7: “MADDIE’S PARENTS CALL FOR PSYCHIC BARBER” – “I have offered my help for free,” says Smith. “I never charge for private readings. I have already assured them I will say nothing to the press.” Indeed, not. Best save it for the book.
DAILY TELEGRAPH page 15: “Police chief accuses McCanns of hindering inquiry” – Carlos Anjos accuses McCanns of using “diversion tactics”.
THE TIMES page 27: “McCanns ‘considering psychic help’”
THE GUARDIAN no Maddie new today.

With regards K&G’s living expenses - I was a civil servant - they will probably be on sick leave. For the first 6-9 months, they will receive full pay after which they will get half pay. A committee meeting will have to take place as to whether to continue with the sick pay or medically retire them (usually after 12 months) There is no reason for them to ‘dip’ into the findmaddie fund at this time and possibly for the next 7 months.

1084. Krissie - I am saying that grannie McCann is told what to say to keep her kid out of jail.
She probably believes everything she is told - just as you obviously do - no questions asked.
Small for her age - krissie that is a pathetic comment - you’ll be telling me they can’t afford to buy Amelie any more clothes of her own next…ha ha ha!
You never use a pair of worn shoes on another childs feet - unless you want to give your child foot problems - or you are poor!
I am all for reusing items - I do it myself - but most mothers would want to keep the smell of their child as it is the last memory they have - not give them to another child as a hand me down - not only is that a poor excuse - it is also a bit sick!

Yes I have and a lot more than that. You have seen the photo of Ciprianos face after her ’suicide attempt’?

Maria, the argument in your post is soon demolished.
You say: ‘Let us suppose the McCanns are guilty’.
Well, then, let us do that. Then let them confess all that they know about Madeleine’s ‘disappearance’ and le them not rely on setting up a fund to beg for money from the public to bail them out.
If they’re put on trial, they’ll get Legal Aid anyway

My daughter turned 3 yesterday. There is not a door/safety gate or lock that she cannot open. The stair gate now has a shoe lace double knotted to stop her going upstairs, the rest of us have to climb over it. She can turn the key in the lock and uses an upturned waste basket to stand on and undo the safety chain. She will help herself to the shed key and again uses some item to stand on to open the shed. Maddie was almost 4 when she disappeared, she would have found a way to open the patio doors if she wanted to.
I think many parents have said they would not have left the kids alone in the appartment while others have said they would. I know from personal experience that I most definatly would not. Having stayed in a hotel in the UK, a converted farmhouse. We had the ‘family’ room, one double room and a twin room seperated by the bathroom. The manager kindly arranged for our children to eat early, they were 3 and 5 yrs old at the time. The resturant opened at 7pm, way past the kids bedtime. After having their tea, the kids were bathed and put to bed. At 7pm either myself or my husband went to the resturant for our evening meal, the other staying with the kids, when one parent had finished their meal, the other went for their’s thus one of us was with the kids 24/7.
Any parent will know the dangers in their own homes with regards young children, this is why we have safety gates, childproof cupboard/drawer locks, fridge locks, socket covers etc. This is why responsible parents do not leave young children alone. At 14 months my eldest managed to work out the fridge lock and while I was in the loo, took out the milk bottle, dropped it, it smashed (I heard it smash and hurried up) I got to him just before he put a broken shard in his mouth.
By the age of 5 yrs old statistically 3 out of 5 under 5 yr olds will end up in A&E. Mainly due to accidents in the home - another good reason not to leave young children alone for any period of time. IMHO if the McCann’s do not face any charges in Portugal, the law in this country MUST take action and at the very least charge them with wilfull neglect.
The high power supporting them IMHO should take a back seat, Richard Branson may have millions if not billions but IMHO is just as negligent as the McCann’s and I really do not like him and won’t be purchasing any of his products again. Anyone who can support and condone wilfull negligence of children are nothing but gutter trash. My opinion of RB will mean nothing to him, when you have money like that, what do they care what people think of them.
I for one will be outraged if the McCann’s do not face some charges over this.

You often use the nannys account as solid evidence to oust anyone’s thoughts Madeleine died a lot earlier
people lie for their moment of fame
her photos
and her other statement of seeing a fisherman kicking a bin bag into the sea
make me question her reliability seeing as we never heard of her till a week ago.
forgot about murats sighting too that night
she sure covered all angles to get mentioned
People lie

1099 - Hey YOU! Now - Go to sleep!!! You said good nite already. Stick to your guns or we’re goin; to call you a liar!
And who the hell is Spuggun? You’re just a wacko who’s come backo.
Paulette, your husband is calling…..so get in there and fake it if you have to. But don’t let him blame this forum for your lousy sex life. It’s not our fault you’re more interested in Kissie Krissie than the man on the sealy posterpedic inside.
If it’s that difficult, then let him dress up as the woman again. It seems to fit the bill since you’re more comfortable in a pair of overalls stirring a can of paint in the garage than decked out in an apron whipping up a cherry pie and a pot of tea..

We all agree Joe that ‘ he who is without sin cast the first stone’ - that is why most of us have said on many occasion that we know we are not perfect parents.
Joe our sympathy got lost for the McCanns not because of the lack of emotion - but of the lack of remorse! - they were questioned on TV and refused to give other parents a message not to leave their children alone - they also said they didn’t blame themselves at all.
They have no guilt Joe - and no remorse - they cry for their predicament they cry at the thought of going to jail they cry for themselves - yes I feel sorry for them - but we feel even more sorry for their children.

Thanks for that. I have read that stuff about the lineup before, however I also read some other details that didn’t make a lot of sense in the context of the case against Cipriano. Such as where were her other 5 children when she was beating Joana to death? If she sent her to the shops for something, why would she have sex with the brother knowing Joana wouldn’t take long. The police said she had scrubbed her house out with petrol - come on Paulette, what woman would use expensive stinky petrol when you could use 10 times more effective, cheaper and less stinky bleach? Sounds like a dumb story a man who never had to clean anything himself would come up with.
What if the four in the lineup weren’t the ones who beat her up?
Why did she clean the whole house with petrol and not the fridge? If she was scared of the step father finding out, why did she then supposedly tell him about the affair a couple days later along with an admission she had killed Joana. I could go on but do you see why I have some doubts. It smells fishy to me, doesn’t add up.

from a vegetarian point of view, smoking a joint made with rizlas is like roasting a sheep with parsley on it.

I have known far better people who have lost people who have their mandatory week off and have to go back to work
none of them admit to negligence and try to dismiss it

In terms of the Find Madeleine $2 million fund and those of you offended at what it’s being spent on… It is my understanding that the lawyers and the PR people are being paid out of an entirely DIFFERENT fund, paid for by R. Branson and others. It was also my understanding that Kate and Gerry had NOT — recently at least– tapped into the fund for living expenses. It was my understanding (correct me if I’m wrong please, but do provide sources) that the FInd Madeleine fund basically has paid for billboards and Private detectives. This would seem to me a good use of funds intended to find madeleine.

1075. Krissie,
I apologise for using anonymous but ever since I was away for a week and returned to see that someone was signing in with my username causing trouble with a lot of people I prefer not to sign on with my own name. They did it before as well and have probably used my name several times without my knowing.
Plus now when I sign the program automatically assigns me “anonymous” and I don’t have the comment option box to change my name. I didn’t notice any other “anonymous” posters today. I’m certain that the same person who signs in with my name is the same person who used to start fights with Spudgun and a few others. It always happens around 11pm UK time or 22:00 GMT or however one is supposed to refer to time on a British forum using an American host - and it can go on all night long. Clearly a substitution for this deranged person’s deeper desires which obviously never come to fruition.

Do you seriously think the McCanns are in a position to go back to work just yet?
Let’s suppose they are guilty. They have lost their daughter by accidentally killing her (your theory I think?), hiding her body, removing it weeks later and burying it somewhere unknown. They are still engaged in a world-wide hoax. They may be struggling with deep-seated guilt feelings. They have their defence to prepare and are awaiting being charged.
Let’s suppose they are innocent. They have lost their daughter. Most parents would find it difficult to get over the known, natural death of a child let alone an unexplained disappearance which they are still dealing with. They have no idea what happened to her. They cannot grieve properly. They cannot just forget because she may just still be alive. To add to the unimaginable horror of that situation, they find themselves suspected of being involved in their child’s alleged death in their holiday apartment. They have their defence to prepare.
I honestly would hardly expect them to be ready just yet to resume work. They haven’t long been back in the UK. They could be required for questioning at any time.
I have no idea how they are funding day to day expenses. They have a large and supportive family network. Who knows?
Let’s wait and see what happens with the fund.
Good night!

79. Thank you for the interesting link. Interesting package if the posting really was sent in late July, as being somewhat contraversial to the mainstream belief back then! To believe in psychics/astrology/religions etc. is a hard choice for me to make still I find this posting very remarkable and high profile. I’ve come across some other psychics’ views regarding this case and am wondering if we really are allowed to be told the truth by psychics - and if that would be “technically” possible in the first place. The mcCanns’ APPEAR not to have ruled out neither religion or psychic reading. But do they need a plan B if parapsychology isn’t serving them right? Oh dear…
