Madeleine McCann: ‘Bad Dad’ Gerry McCann, The Psychic Barber And Drugs
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “Madeleine was drugged but it was by kidnapper says her grandmother.”
Page 9: “Madeleine’s family: She was drugged…but not by parents.”
Eileen McCann, Gerry’s mother – says: “I really believe they [whoever took her] gave her a drug. There is no way they carried her out of there without her waking. If she was taken when she was sleeping by somebody she did not know, she would have screamed the place down.”
Alternatively, she was taken by someone she did know? Or Mrs McCann is just speculating.
“’BAD DAD’ GERRY” – Carlos Anjos, head of the Portuguese Police Federation, says Gerry, “a heart consultant”, is a “negligent father”. This is his “astonishing rant”.
THE SUN front page: “Mystics hunt for Maddie.”
Around 150 leads provided by mystics have been followed up.
Page 6: “ASK PSYCHIC BARBER TO HELP FIND MADDIE” – Clairvoyant Gordon Smith has been contacted by the family. Smith hosts TV’s Most Haunted show. He says he can tell if Madeleine is alive or dead. Mick is nicknamed “THE PSYCHIC BARBER”.
DAILY MIRROR front page: “McCANNS: SHE WAS DRUGGED.”
Page 5: “‘Madeleine must have been drugged..she would have screamed place down’” – GRANDMOTHER EILEEN McCANN YESTERDAY.”
“Couple call on psychic to help” – Ex-hairdresser Smith is a “wacky medium”.
Says he: “In order for it to work I need to sit with the closest relatives who would be the parents. Then I’d tune in and see what I can pick up. But I would always warn them that there’s a possibility nothing might happen.”
Best to warn them of that first…
DAILY MAIL page 5: “Now police leader mocks ‘negligent’ Gerry McCann over his fears that an abductor was in Maddie’s room.”
“Call for the ‘psychic barber’” – “Despite both being strict Roman Catholics, the couple have already made contact” with Gordon Smith.
DAILY STAR front page: “MADDIE I’LL FIND BODY IN DAYS. Parents call in psychic.”
Page 7: “MADDIE’S PARENTS CALL FOR PSYCHIC BARBER” – “I have offered my help for free,” says Smith. “I never charge for private readings. I have already assured them I will say nothing to the press.” Indeed, not. Best save it for the book.
DAILY TELEGRAPH page 15: “Police chief accuses McCanns of hindering inquiry” – Carlos Anjos accuses McCanns of using “diversion tactics”.
THE TIMES page 27: “McCanns ‘considering psychic help’”
THE GUARDIAN no Maddie new today.

DDD, I am always the last sane post, or first, depending on where you live.
October 3rd, 2007 at 4:32 am
Java, are you the last sane post???
October 3rd, 2007 at 4:25 am
He will have to come up with something really good to top the blackmarket organ theory. You didn’t do so well today - I’m not quite sure I know what you were even hinting at today. I am expecting something much more interesting tomorrow.

Good. Finally some progress in the Madeleine case. A link to the Roswell case has been found!
October 3rd, 2007 at 4:20 am
Can’t wait!!!! Does it involve a Chupacabra????
October 3rd, 2007 at 4:17 am
Dee dee– actually, my husband has come up with a DOOZY of a theory which I plan to discuss with you guys tomorrow. Way better than aliens, way better than organ harvesting… You just wait. He’s clever, that husband of mine… Maybe he has solved this whole case!!! Not only that but from NEW MEXICO. whoa. Would you believe.. (No joke)…he grew up in ROSWELL. No really. Goddard High School.

Tony Bennett, what happened with you last Trust and Trustees?
October 3rd, 2007 at 3:58 am
Furthermore, the McCrims have said in the papers today that they are afraid they will still be considered suspects when they mark the first anniversary of Madeleine’s disappearance next year !! So…they have written her off then ? It was only last week they were saying they had every reason to believe she was still alive ….!!!

1126- Tony and others
I would like to comment on the video of Kate supposedly SHAKING HER HEAD when asked whether Madeleine is still alive. I saw this video way back before I started reading about this case. In fact, other than generally knowing a girl named Madeleine went missing in Portugal during a family holiday, I knew nothing. (This wasn’t so big of news in the USA). I could not have named the parents. However, being a generally skeptical person, if someone had asked me, I would have said, Well, 90 percent of the time, kids disappear because of something their parents did. Stranger abduction is not likely. The parents probably did it.
When that video came out, it was on CNN (not only that, but CNN- USA, for those who care, as opposed to CNN-Britannia), and I just happened to watch it. Funny enough, it was that very “shaking of the head” you mention which broke my heart. I did not take it as the gesture of a woman who knows already her daughter is dead. I took it absolutely as the gesture of a woman who could not even accept the SUGGESTION her daughter was dead. I took it as the gesture of a woman who couldn’t hear the idea of it, as someone shaking her head to say NO DON’T ASK ME THAT QUESTION, I can’t stand to hear it.
It did not at the time occur to me she was shaking her head to say “No my daughter is not alive.” In fact, that suggestion is — to me — really nonsensical.
To those who say Kate has showed no emotion, I say: You do not read humans very well. In every video of the McCanns I have seen, Kate at least has been on the verge of collapse, she’s unable to BREATHE. Look how shallow her breath is. This is a woman in horrible agony– it’s clear to me, and I’m mystified why others think she’s cold and showing no emotion.
I don’t like wha the McCanns ahve done with the PR campaign and I am admitteldy somewhat confused over how they have handled the whole thing. But those who say Gerry and Kate have not shown emotion during this are just blind as bats.

why don’t the psychics ever post on Anorak (real psychics!!) then it would be interesting as things unfold, its easy to say “I knew that” after it happens.
In answer to this although it was way back, I have many times posted what my friend, a Medium, not a Psychic, has said re: Madeleine and I have sent dated e-mails and faxes to various “involved” parties i.e Police both here and in Portugal, newspapers, TV etc, for that very reason so that we could say “we knew that, and we told you on such-and-such a date”
Madeleine will be found after a period of heavy rain, in still water which may be a well, a pond or a reservoir, and very likely in rough terrrain near a dilapidated farmhouse. She was taken by a man who smelt of beefburgers and had a white ( silver ? ) ring in his ear so we think it may be someone who worked in the kitchens at the complex, and another man wore a gold cross ” with a man on it” ( crucifix) She was kept in a windowless, dark room and they argued outside the door before coming in to shine a light in her eyes ( looking for the blemish ) They “spoke like Dora ” ( Dora the Explorer, kid’s programme on TV where Dora teaches simple Spanish ) and the “big white angel took her out of the water” From this we deduce that they realised they had a “hot potato” and drowned her in this well or whatever, so IF any of that comes right, we WILL be able to say “we knew that “……

If I was asked if I had ever sedated my kids, I would say honestly that I gave them Calpol on the DR’s advice after their jabs at 3 months old and when necessary if they had a fever. I would not deny or refuse to answer the question, BUT I have nothing to hide.
It seems to be standard practise to give babies Calpol at 3 months after their jabs.

Actually the right-to-silence - arguido connection here is rather interesting.
As they often complained, the McCanns were frustrated since May that they didn’t know what evidence the police had. They expressed this in terms of ‘We don’t think they’re doing enough to look for Maddie, but we need to know what they know, so we can help’. They became particularly anxious as it was hinted that there was new forensic evidence at the beginning of August, and even suggested they would ‘formally make themselves arguidos to get better access to the police operation’.
This echoed the stepping-up of their own ‘abduction investigation’ (FindMaddy)a week after May 3, supposedly to supplement the PJ investigation which was being scaled down, but probably - as the head of the PJ has complained - to distract attention from the other line of investigation to which they feared the PJ were beginning to place more emphasis, even then.
It also echoes, for example, Huntley’s attempts to discover what lines the British police were following, by hanging around reporters after the Soham murders.
In fact, the McCanns must have been very concerned about unnecessarily incriminating themselves in the Portimao interrogations. The PJ suggested they knew various incriminating things, but didn’t say just WHAT they knew.
This pute Kate and Gerry in a VERY awkward position, under interrogation. When asked ‘Did you sedate your children’, Kate couldn’t risk answering ‘No (if in fact she did), in case the PJ already had evidence that she did. On the other hand, she didn’t want to volunteer incriminating material which the PJ MIGHT NOT have actually had evidence for.
This, I think, explains a lot of the discussion (on both ’sides’) around the interrogation scenario - and the silences of Kate (and more particularly Gerry) would have told the PJ - and the British cops who were apparently DIRECTING SOME OF THE QUESTIONING AND WATCHING IN ANOTHER ROOM - quite a lot about the suspects.
For example, if Kate was sure the PJ could have no evidence of sedation, there would be absolutely no reason not to just say ‘NO, I/we didn’t’. So she must have thought they MIGHT have such evidence. Which means she DID sedate the children. Naturally, Kate and Gerry were very unhappy with this interrogation technique. But in Portugal, no inferences can be drawn in court from the silence of an arguido
Inferences can still be drawn, though, by the PJ, to guide their investigation. This is why they can say ‘we know they killed their child, but can’t yet prove it in court.’ The idea that the PJ are just ‘Keystone Cops’ is a tabloid fantasy. They perfected their skills over five centuries, down from the Inquisition (from which much of the European civil law tradition of criminal investigation derives) to Salazar’s police state.
Amaral was removed not because of the Cipriano case, but because his public complaints about the lack of full cooperation from the British side of the investigation. It is not as if the investigation has been derailed - his deputy has taken over.

You can be ‘well connected’ as a no one. I know, I have a few ‘celebrity’ friends of my own. Quite well known ones here in the UK and Internationally. OK not in the Royal circles or government (saying that I know a corrupt councillor on Anglesey who is once again under investigation lol) and as a civil servant was asked questions by the then pm John Major BUT he didn’t know my name, the boss stuck his name on my work - that’s civil service for you.
The swinger story - who knows? If MP’s can get caught doing all kinds of stuff from adultry, homosexuality, renting boys etc, K&G could do anything, I wouldn’t rule anything out where these 2 are concerned.
The biggest ‘bug bear’ in this case for a lot of people IMHO is they are people we are suppose to respect and take advise from, we put our lives in their hands, we put our kids lives in their hands and if it does turn out they murdered Maddie, what does that make us feel as parents? We put our kids lives in the hands of murderers. What parent would not feel some guilt over this? Followed by anger. I do not think the McCanns will return to their chosen work, why would they when they can make millions for their story.

Bedtime for me. Perhaps tomorrow will be the day something breaks the stalemate.Amaral going could scupper the case or give it momentum again…a new broom sweeps clean.
October 3rd, 2007 at 1:48 am
Paulette, perhaps we should just admit to the Poor Schmoe that we are indeed having a torrid affair behind the backs of our posturpedic husbands and then he will go away? My husband might think that is fun.

Chloe - appology acceoted - it’s getting late, I may be guilty of ‘jumping the gun’ appologise from here too.

1146. I don’t think Kate as a General Practioner could be ultra connected to someone. Gerry seems to be the mover and shaker but he’s only a cardiology consultant - not a surgeon as was erroneously reported.
The swinger stories I never believed to be anything more than a salacious story made up to sell papers. Why is it resurfacing again?
I cannot post some information even after having removed the urls. Oh well. water is running again (old farmhouse) so I am off. Have a nice night.

Yep do have all you said - kids safely in bed, I have a CCTV in their rooms, they are all asleep.
Hobbies - just finished my knitting tonight before coming here. Will start a new knitting project tomorrow. A nice chunky sweater for my daughter.
Lets face it, you cannot get away from the Madeline saga, the newspapers are full of it, the T.V. is full of it and it’s on-line wherever you go, so it’s kinda predictive that we have an opinion, it’s shoved down our throats. If it was religion, there would be uproar - but that’s another story.

1145 Chloe
Read what I said.
The whole post not bits.
This is one of the major problems with some people, they read a little then jump the gun. They do not read all that is said - your problem Chloe, not mine.
October 3rd, 2007 at 1:28 am
Don’t you guys have families, friends, perhaps hobbies??????? other than this?
On the other hand, What the hell do I care….HAHAHAHAHHAAHAHHAHAHA
October 3rd, 2007 at 1:27 am
I know how to catch them out - the PJ could take a child with a contact lens that has a mark on it to them - and tell them they found her.
If guilty they will accept the child - if innocent they will say straight away that it is not her!
Ok now I’m losing the plot - time for bed for me I think!

1143. I don’t know you mean the clever diversions they’ve created? Pulling strings and attracting the famous and wealthy who’ve bandied around them? Their claim Madeleine was abducted?
I’m not sure if they are guilty of murdering Madeleine but so much of their actions and words do not make logical sense. And they continue to market Madeleine like a Barbie doll - yet even Barbie can talk.
It’s very disturbing.
