Madeleine McCann: ‘Bad Dad’ Gerry McCann, The Psychic Barber And Drugs
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “Madeleine was drugged but it was by kidnapper says her grandmother.”
Page 9: “Madeleine’s family: She was drugged…but not by parents.”
Eileen McCann, Gerry’s mother – says: “I really believe they [whoever took her] gave her a drug. There is no way they carried her out of there without her waking. If she was taken when she was sleeping by somebody she did not know, she would have screamed the place down.”
Alternatively, she was taken by someone she did know? Or Mrs McCann is just speculating.
“’BAD DAD’ GERRY” – Carlos Anjos, head of the Portuguese Police Federation, says Gerry, “a heart consultant”, is a “negligent father”. This is his “astonishing rant”.
THE SUN front page: “Mystics hunt for Maddie.”
Around 150 leads provided by mystics have been followed up.
Page 6: “ASK PSYCHIC BARBER TO HELP FIND MADDIE” – Clairvoyant Gordon Smith has been contacted by the family. Smith hosts TV’s Most Haunted show. He says he can tell if Madeleine is alive or dead. Mick is nicknamed “THE PSYCHIC BARBER”.
DAILY MIRROR front page: “McCANNS: SHE WAS DRUGGED.”
Page 5: “‘Madeleine must have been drugged..she would have screamed place down’” – GRANDMOTHER EILEEN McCANN YESTERDAY.”
“Couple call on psychic to help” – Ex-hairdresser Smith is a “wacky medium”.
Says he: “In order for it to work I need to sit with the closest relatives who would be the parents. Then I’d tune in and see what I can pick up. But I would always warn them that there’s a possibility nothing might happen.”
Best to warn them of that first…
DAILY MAIL page 5: “Now police leader mocks ‘negligent’ Gerry McCann over his fears that an abductor was in Maddie’s room.”
“Call for the ‘psychic barber’” – “Despite both being strict Roman Catholics, the couple have already made contact” with Gordon Smith.
DAILY STAR front page: “MADDIE I’LL FIND BODY IN DAYS. Parents call in psychic.”
Page 7: “MADDIE’S PARENTS CALL FOR PSYCHIC BARBER” – “I have offered my help for free,” says Smith. “I never charge for private readings. I have already assured them I will say nothing to the press.” Indeed, not. Best save it for the book.
DAILY TELEGRAPH page 15: “Police chief accuses McCanns of hindering inquiry” – Carlos Anjos accuses McCanns of using “diversion tactics”.
THE TIMES page 27: “McCanns ‘considering psychic help’”
THE GUARDIAN no Maddie new today.

Within a few days of the McCanns returning to the UK, there was a lot of talk of the PJ submitting a host of questions for them to answer via the UK police. I read nothing to say there was any technical reason why this could not have occurred. So why didn’t the PJ do this? Don’t you remember, it looked like happening pretty quickly, if what I read was anything to go by. Some PJ were even posited as to be already on their way with the list or something close to that.
Instead, we got the Judge saying there was nothing new that would warrant the posing of further questions. Why didn’t he say ‘there are still some unanswered questions’ and submit the list to the UK police? Don’t you think a fair interpretation of that would be that the questions they wanted answered had been?
Where is there an OFFICIAL list of unanswered questions - and I don’t mean another of those mysterious leaks to the Portuguese press from ’sources’?

The connection is:
You say you will compare it to a soap opera because THEY have portrayed it as one. If you are so intent on following in their footsteps, I, along with many others on here I am sure, live in daily expectation of seeing you splashed all over the media on suspicion of murdering your child.

well at least we know the devout catholic bit is rubbish.
“catholics and spiritualism eh.
no wonder the pope took all the maddy stuff off the vatican web site.”
As a matter of fact, historically, Catholics have been very interested, and in some cases fully accepted, spiritualism. And I mean those at the top, not just some of the rank and file.

i had no idea that the catholic priesthood were still allowed to cover up murders, child abuse etc. but if gerry and kate both went to the priest, he has to tell what was said during the confession as it is no longer secret…

why don’t the pychics ever post on Anorak (real pychics!!) then it would be interesting as things unfold, its easy to say “I knew that” after it happens.
I think you mean psychics? But yes, I have said twice I think the child will be found in a dam, near a wall near Huelva Spain. I am trying to get the name of the dam. I posted this first on (73) on 29th September.

I was unaware of this whole “Vatican” thing.
Question for any Catholics out there : If the priest tells his Monseigneur (sp) or whoever, then isn’t he breaking the sanctity of the confessional or something similar?
October 2nd, 2007 at 11:55 am
I fear that they might just get away with it.
My hope is that the PJ will be receiving international help from
others disgusted with the British elite and their lack of parenting skills.
Does anyone know if Strongwood are still working on the case because they
\were using psychics?
And despite the sabotage etc that they can put their facts on the table.

Your mention of the guildford 4 as an example is just the type of ‘clutching at straws’ that is now being undertaken by the McCanns. Do you work for them?
It is ok to refute an argument with an alternative possibility but I’m afraid that you cant do the same when you have a multitude of contradictions. Explaining away (lets say) ten theories or pieces of evidence with a remotely possible explanation just wont wash. The more the circumstancial evidence, the bigger the hole to dig yourself out of. And the less likely you’ll succeed.
Unless you’re a celebrity with big money of course. People tend to go blind and invent all sorts of excuses for you.
You should therefore be more concerned that your ‘miscarriage of justice’ doesnt actually lead to an acquittal of potential child killers and not the other way round.

135 Moderation
Anytime. This whole “bully and thug” mentality makes my blood boil!
You would hope that AT THE LEAST, people might feel ashamed of themselves but judging by the post at 134, it is just so much water off a duck’s back.
Strange how brave people are when hidden by a computer screen, when you consider we live in a sociey where old people are attacked in BROAD DAYLIGHT and yet, no one goes to help.
Obviously the bravest of society are all on the Anorak forum at these times
BTW, being an avid reader of ABSOLUTELY everything, from Georgette Heyer to Jennifer Cruisie to Sam Browne, am I likely to have read anything by you (what is your nom de plume anyway?)

There hasn’t been a trial yet! Bit premature to talk about miscarriages of justice, isn’t it?
October 2nd, 2007 at 11:52 am
SSS what we do know about the priest is that he was called in by his Bishop Cardinal or whatever the head honcho anyway for that diocese,I cant say about the Vatican interview, although I have heard it suggested. What is certain is that after the priest was interviewed by his superiors,Madeleines sites or boards where withdrawn by order of the Vatican, make of it what you will, another strange twist in an unending maze.

133 - SSS. I agree with you regarding personal remarks, they are completely unnecessary - but I would look at the emotions generated from a positive point of view. The majority of people on here CARE! They want to find Madeleine. There is more passion (irrespective of from which ‘camp’) on this forum than I have ever seen or heard from the McCann parents themselves.

Looking through all the stuff again something strikes me as a mother.
I am not overtly camera conscious. I don’t take snap shots all the time, but
I have a lot of photos of my kids.
Someone mentioned we never see any footage of Madeleine talking or with other kids.
Actually if we have seen more than 20 pictures of her, that is a lot.
I mean surely if you claim she was abducted you want to make sure her abducter knows all about her in the hopes they will hand her in.
Show her as a toddler, taking her first steps.
Why on earth are there so many pictures of Kate (whom we all know where she is) and so few of Madeleine who is missing?
I know we all keep repeating stuff but I have to repeat that their constant slander of the Portuguese Police is a joke.
They did not leave Madeleine unattended.
Kate and Gerry did.
But the numb British public who read the tabloids keep salivating every time a bell rings.
Brainwashed beyond redemption.
And the circus continues.
We just need to shine a light on the ringmaster.
Then the tent will come down.

129,
my point turd popper is that there are many miscarriages of justice. Like in the case of the Guilford 4 where the police were pressured into making arrests and 4 innocent people ended up in jail for a very long time.
Lets face it Will you have no idea if the McCanns really are guilty of killing Madeleine.

128 Moderation
This is what I am talking about.
I can’t say that I have ANYTHING in common with Moderation, although I don’t know her, but I can’t understand why people would be so nasty and COWARDLY as to do this to her.
You may not agree with her, but do you have to abuse her?
Proud to be British? I have never been so ashamed in my life.

I watched a film last night on FilmFour called Mean Girl about a clique of girls in high school, who were the “in” group and how they mocked the people around them and because what they did was copied, they could “turn” people against each other. They had a book called the “Burn Book” which they stick pictures of people they didn’t like in, and write things about them eg/. one teacher who said she was going to “push” the girl to do well in maths was stigmatised as a drug pusher and there was a police investigation in to this “allegation”.
It was a very interesting insight into human nature, and in some parts amusing, but it reminded me of some people in this forum, in the way that they are quick to attack and mock others for no reason, and encourage others to do the same and all because everyone thinks that there viewpoint, or opinion is more important than others.
