Madeleine McCann: ‘Bad Dad’ Gerry McCann, The Psychic Barber And Drugs
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “Madeleine was drugged but it was by kidnapper says her grandmother.”
Page 9: “Madeleine’s family: She was drugged…but not by parents.”
Eileen McCann, Gerry’s mother – says: “I really believe they [whoever took her] gave her a drug. There is no way they carried her out of there without her waking. If she was taken when she was sleeping by somebody she did not know, she would have screamed the place down.”
Alternatively, she was taken by someone she did know? Or Mrs McCann is just speculating.
“’BAD DAD’ GERRY” – Carlos Anjos, head of the Portuguese Police Federation, says Gerry, “a heart consultant”, is a “negligent father”. This is his “astonishing rant”.
THE SUN front page: “Mystics hunt for Maddie.”
Around 150 leads provided by mystics have been followed up.
Page 6: “ASK PSYCHIC BARBER TO HELP FIND MADDIE” – Clairvoyant Gordon Smith has been contacted by the family. Smith hosts TV’s Most Haunted show. He says he can tell if Madeleine is alive or dead. Mick is nicknamed “THE PSYCHIC BARBER”.
DAILY MIRROR front page: “McCANNS: SHE WAS DRUGGED.”
Page 5: “‘Madeleine must have been drugged..she would have screamed place down’” – GRANDMOTHER EILEEN McCANN YESTERDAY.”
“Couple call on psychic to help” – Ex-hairdresser Smith is a “wacky medium”.
Says he: “In order for it to work I need to sit with the closest relatives who would be the parents. Then I’d tune in and see what I can pick up. But I would always warn them that there’s a possibility nothing might happen.”
Best to warn them of that first…
DAILY MAIL page 5: “Now police leader mocks ‘negligent’ Gerry McCann over his fears that an abductor was in Maddie’s room.”
“Call for the ‘psychic barber’” – “Despite both being strict Roman Catholics, the couple have already made contact” with Gordon Smith.
DAILY STAR front page: “MADDIE I’LL FIND BODY IN DAYS. Parents call in psychic.”
Page 7: “MADDIE’S PARENTS CALL FOR PSYCHIC BARBER” – “I have offered my help for free,” says Smith. “I never charge for private readings. I have already assured them I will say nothing to the press.” Indeed, not. Best save it for the book.
DAILY TELEGRAPH page 15: “Police chief accuses McCanns of hindering inquiry” – Carlos Anjos accuses McCanns of using “diversion tactics”.
THE TIMES page 27: “McCanns ‘considering psychic help’”
THE GUARDIAN no Maddie new today.

Don’t know if anyone has picked on this, but I read some previous posters about Clarence Mitchell’s role in the “breaking news” about sightings of Madeleine.
I just saw this article in LE MONDE (which I think is a respected french paper) that confirms that Clarence Mitchell is the one that sent the picture of the Moroccan family to all the british newspapers (after obtaining it from the British Embassy in Madrid - where the spanish girl deposited the picture).
http://www.lemonde.fr/web/article/0,1-0@2-3236,36-961079@51-953038,0.html
A previous poster asked the question - if this was really Madeleine (and it could have been for all they knew) would the publication of the photo not put the girl in danger? Why did they send it to all the newspapers?

Excuse my ignorance, but a question;
It’s been stated in some of the reports that the PJ is completely independant from the governement (to ensure objectivity in all criminal matters).
Is the same thing technically true in the UK?

if she was dead, they’d have to leave her somewhere.
or maybe she went to look for kate, fell down the steps and no one found her for over two hours, while she either lay dying and asking for kate, or had died.
don’t forget, theres reports that no one left the table.

If the body was burned that could destroy a good bit of incriminating evidence.

Why have we moved away from the killed by her parents to order for sale donor transplant harvesters theory (the Doctors McCann would, of course, have handled the tissue typing and thereby added further value).
That was the one I was attracted to yesterday and referred workmates to - they loved it for its sheer lunacy.

I had read English yesterday and german shepherd.
Gee, I just can’t believe we would get conflicting stories!!! lol

345 Jolie - thanks I also read that “two hours are needed” - you’re right.
But so, what’s your view? Did the dogs not smell death (as claimed), or do you think that Madeleine was not killed accidentally?
I mean even if her parents killed her intentionally, why would they leave her lying on the floor for two hours?
Something smells in this story?

I had a similar gruesome thought about how a child’s body might be concealed.

i reckon they’re just preparing for when the tox test says she was drugged.

The point I was making is the reason that the police always suspect the parents is because in many cases it is the right hunch. The people who are the closest mostly always have the most motive and opportunity. Especially when parents do not seem to be open to scrutiny for whatever reason, or keep coming up with different stories and possible scenarios.

she may equally as well have been battered until she stopped moaning.
maybe we’re being too nice.
most of the theories seem to revolve around accidents.

Will, I am curious myself about the incinerator. The article I read yesterday seems to have been lost in cyberspace but the mand who ran it recalled an English couple who bought their dog in for cremation. They did not cry which he commented as being odd. Is there anyway to determine if a human body is mixed in with the ashes?
Also I wanted to say that I think Granny McCanny has given us a little insight into what little Madeleine must have been like. The devil could have walked in and picked up my kids when they were sleeping at her age. So she would have ’screamed the house down’?
CuddleCat is most definitely a prop!

it’s a fact that animals run away when something bad is going to happen.
they said something similar just before the tsunami, but i suppose they maybe heard something coming.
October 2nd, 2007 at 3:32 pm
345, Jolie,
I suppose it is possible she was put, or went back to bed after banging her head and died of a complication - a clot, for instance - and lay seemingly asleep for a few hours before it was discovered what had happened.

294 - Chloe I was under the impression dogs know when their master is home because they get used to the sound of the engine without a problem and can hear possibly 10 times farther than we can so they hear the car coming..
sorry im skeptical of all phsycics

A bit like dropping the investigations into Op. Ore?

It takes two hours after death for the ’smell of death’ to be left behind and able to be detected by a human remains specialist dog. If someone other than the McCanns killed the child (intentionally or accidentally) in the apartment, how can the timeline presented by the McCanns and their friends be explained? One or both were with her until at least 7 pm when she was put to bed by Kate, allegedly witnessed by David Payne. Gerry McCann says he checked by in on the kids about 8:30 pm, wasn’t it? And he accounted for all three kids in bed. And then stood about outside the apartment for another 20 minutes talking with a friend before returning to the bar. So when would the intruder have had the time to kill Madeleine and have the body sit around for the needed amount of time for there to be scent evidence?

I think that the statement produced by the portuguese pj detective against british police (that they only investigate what is convenient for the McCanns) is “ludicrous” (as Clarence would put it)
After all, british cops with the help of british sniffer dogs found the dna samples that were analysed by a british lab. To suggest that they are not cooperating is as wrong as any suggestion that the pj screwed it up (because they have been working with british police all along).

I’m always a fan of people who are do-ers rather than talkers. I take my hat off to you and am glad people like you campaign on behalf of those that can’t or don’t know how to. If it wasn’t for those silent campaigners doing stuff behind people’s backs, the world would be in a mess.
Glad to meet your acquintance and keep up the great work.

334 hipiechikkie - thanks.
I understand some suspicion on the parents (especially after the mixed up statements etc.)… but still, to call in dogs that are capable (only) of detecting smell of death (not smell of dead bodies) looks like they were looking for very specific information.
Surely they must have had other information to suggest that death could have occured in the holiday flat… and to bring the dogs into the hire car is even more bizarre.
Just makes me think that there’s a lot about the police work that we don’t know about (and probably nor do the McCanns).

As intelligent people, I think the McCanns are also very cunning and calculating, thinking they can pull the wool over everyone’s eyes. I’m beginning to think that Cuddle Cat wouldn’t offer any useful information anyway. I think she carries it as a prop to reinforce the grieving mother impression.

I agree. But not with the term ‘virtually hanging’. I’d pull the lever on the McCanns as they stood by the gibbet if they did kill their daughter. Give me a hatchet…whatever. I believe childkillers should get the death penalty.

Hi Maura - nice to see you working so hard!
Now look…. If you could make your support seem a little less blind and simplistic, we’ll double the horly rate.
