Madeleine McCann: ‘Bad Dad’ Gerry McCann, The Psychic Barber And Drugs
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “Madeleine was drugged but it was by kidnapper says her grandmother.”
Page 9: “Madeleine’s family: She was drugged…but not by parents.”
Eileen McCann, Gerry’s mother – says: “I really believe they [whoever took her] gave her a drug. There is no way they carried her out of there without her waking. If she was taken when she was sleeping by somebody she did not know, she would have screamed the place down.”
Alternatively, she was taken by someone she did know? Or Mrs McCann is just speculating.
“’BAD DAD’ GERRY” – Carlos Anjos, head of the Portuguese Police Federation, says Gerry, “a heart consultant”, is a “negligent father”. This is his “astonishing rant”.
THE SUN front page: “Mystics hunt for Maddie.”
Around 150 leads provided by mystics have been followed up.
Page 6: “ASK PSYCHIC BARBER TO HELP FIND MADDIE” – Clairvoyant Gordon Smith has been contacted by the family. Smith hosts TV’s Most Haunted show. He says he can tell if Madeleine is alive or dead. Mick is nicknamed “THE PSYCHIC BARBER”.
DAILY MIRROR front page: “McCANNS: SHE WAS DRUGGED.”
Page 5: “‘Madeleine must have been drugged..she would have screamed place down’” – GRANDMOTHER EILEEN McCANN YESTERDAY.”
“Couple call on psychic to help” – Ex-hairdresser Smith is a “wacky medium”.
Says he: “In order for it to work I need to sit with the closest relatives who would be the parents. Then I’d tune in and see what I can pick up. But I would always warn them that there’s a possibility nothing might happen.”
Best to warn them of that first…
DAILY MAIL page 5: “Now police leader mocks ‘negligent’ Gerry McCann over his fears that an abductor was in Maddie’s room.”
“Call for the ‘psychic barber’” – “Despite both being strict Roman Catholics, the couple have already made contact” with Gordon Smith.
DAILY STAR front page: “MADDIE I’LL FIND BODY IN DAYS. Parents call in psychic.”
Page 7: “MADDIE’S PARENTS CALL FOR PSYCHIC BARBER” – “I have offered my help for free,” says Smith. “I never charge for private readings. I have already assured them I will say nothing to the press.” Indeed, not. Best save it for the book.
DAILY TELEGRAPH page 15: “Police chief accuses McCanns of hindering inquiry” – Carlos Anjos accuses McCanns of using “diversion tactics”.
THE TIMES page 27: “McCanns ‘considering psychic help’”
THE GUARDIAN no Maddie new today.

44 today (The Real Stig)
and 1282 yesterday.
The Real Stig and firestar:
Yes, I too noted this: “He is at it again, this time a private prosecution against the McCann’s. He is an old fool. Convicted criminal, removed road signs in the UK becuse he does not like kilometers (he prefers miles)”.
5 BRIEF POINTS:
1. The metric distance signs in question were illegal - Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2002 SI 3113
2. As a direct result of that case, the Secretary of State for Transport wrote in July 2002 to all Chief Executives and Highways Departments of all local authorities in the U.K., reminding them that metric distance signs on roads and footpaths were illegal. Several authorities had to remove and repalce illegal metric distance signs as a result of that letter
3. My one and only sentence - not for removing a metric road sign, by the way, but for *altering it to read in yards*, was, er, an Absolute Discharge. The prosection failed in their claim for costs
4. The campaign against British road signs going metric finally succeeded in February 2006 when then Transport Secretary, now Chancelllor of the Exchequer, Alistair Darling, announced that Britain would not go metric on its road signs, thus saving the country about £1,000,000,000 (for U.S. posters, about $2,000,000,000)
5. To see how popular the subject is, and what public opinion on this issue is, look for example at what is the most popular poll on the METRO online newspaper (free newspaper in London) website. Type in ‘METRO’ and ‘polls’ to Google. And look at how people have voted.
http://www.activeresistance.org.uk
P.S. I was decribed as a ‘loser’ by one poster yesterday. The successful campaign to retain miles and yards on our road signs is one of a number of successful campaigns I’ve been involved in. I’m not boasting. It’s a simple fact

Why on earth didn’t the families put their children in one unit with an adult watching over them, then they could do half hour each! Why were not the twins taken! All very odd indeed. I do feel for the family though, they must feel so desperate and have terrible misgivings.

So it’s more likley to be a fishing exercise on the part of the McCanns. Find out what the PJ might have on them so they can build their defence?
October 2nd, 2007 at 10:14 am
Good morning, I am sorry if any of my earlier posts have annoyed people (except team McCann), it was not my intention. I really just want to to help. I was asked a while back when I first suspected the McCanns. To be honest my suspicions were aroused after hearing Gerry on radio broadcasts. I haven’t heard this mentioned but he really does have a weird rather unmanly voice. I don’t think women would naturally find themselves drawn sexually to any man who spoke in such a manner, and yet here we find him married, successful and with three(now two) lovely children. I believe that the majority of people who marry do so for many different reasons but hardly ever love. That means there are millions of couples who will never experience the sublime ego loss experience of orgastic sexual union. Please bear with me.
I believe that the wealth of mental illnesses on this planet are caused by people’s badly regimented sexual economy. Kate and Gerry are a prime example of a loveless couple who’s inability to have satisfying sex has led them to become what we see and hear of them today.
The orgasm is an ego busting experience, the more intense the orgasm the more the ego is shattered. People who regularly experience an ego loss state find it very hard to lie and cheat. Kate does not look or sound like the sort of woman who’s man knows much about the female orgasm, quiet the opposite in fact. She has been described as “the ice maiden”( frigid).
It might also be worth pointing out that they could not have children in a normal fashion and had to rely on some sort of scientific help. Like plastic surgeons (Kate looks like she’s had a nose job) the so called professionals that would have helped them would never have asked any awkward or embarrassing questions because that is psychology and another field. Their job was to help paper over the cracks in the McCanns life thus helping them.
Please don’t be fooled by any rumors of affairs and swinging activity, this does not make them sexy despite what our society will have us believe.
Egomaniac’s fear ego loss and intimate sex.
That’s all for now.

34 Pam..a tad naive I think..Of course they would since they need the image making of being seen to be doing something other than save their own hides.It is not out of their own money after all…. but yours ( ? maybe ) and those others who donated. £80K is a drop in ocean with £2 mil rewards, and over a million in Find Funds.
They may as well call in Derren Brown too.. he can read their minds, for truth., by placing strategic words, as he does.
How does granny know the child was drugged pray tell. ? This sounds like damage control to me.
IF she was abducted all they have to do is get a brother/sister etc to take Madeline to a remote place and make a call on a pay as you go card, saying they have “just found her abandoned” , collect the reward, and nobody would know it was their relative/friend etc who took her and they can retire and save the heave ho in press.

The way i see it we have a war on our hands between the Portuguese press vs the British press, with the truth and the McCanns victims in the middle.
October 2nd, 2007 at 10:08 am
And now you can wash that down with some journalism you won’t find in the UK, ’cause “we don’t read that foreign rubbish”…
From Diario de Noticias this morning:
http://dn.sapo.pt/2007/10/02/s…..a_fav.html
PJ accuses English police of favouring the McCann couple
“The British police has only been working on the issues that the McCann couple wants, and which are convenient to them.” It was with an explosive and rebelled tone that the coordinator of the investigation into the Madeleine case, Goncalo Amaral, commented in brief statements to DN the news that were published yesterday in several English newspapers. This news was about an anonymous email that was sent to Prince Charles’ official site, which accuses an ex-employee of the Ocean Club of kidnapping the four-year-old girl, as an act of revenge against the resort’s administration, after having been dismissed.
“That situation is completely set aside, and it has no credibility whatsoever to Portuguese police”, the leader of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Portimao told DN, considering that his English colleagues “have been investigating leads and information that were created and worked by the McCanns, forgetting that the couple is suspected of the death of their daughter Madeleine”.
“That story of a kidnapping for revenge is another fact that was worked by the McCanns”, Gonçalo Amaral accused, stressing that the Ocean Club “is located in Praia da Luz and not in London, which means that everything that concerns the resort and its employees (present or former) was already or is being investigated by Policia Judiciaria”. “It’s not an email, even less an anonymous one, which is easy to track, that is going to distract our investigation line”, he said.
Gonçalo Amaral, before entering the CID in Portimao, was at the PJ’s Directory in Faro, having been mainly responsible for fighting drug traffic.
The position of the coordinator of CID in Portimao comes to meet the statements that were made to DN by the president of the Union of Criminal Investigation Employees (ASFIC), Carlos Anjos, who accuses Gerry and Kate McCann of “trying to distract and confuse the investigation by announcing a new fact on a daily basis”. For him, as DN could report, “the McCanns have launched a campaign to discredit the Portuguese police when it presented the theory of the girl’s death, substituting that of an abduction, which was very convenient to them”. “As long as the theory of the disappearance because of a suspected abduction subsisted, the PJ was a very pleasant company for the couple. When things changed and the death theory emerged, there was a radical change in the stance of the McCanns, who by the way never helped or facilitated, since the beginning, the investigation”.
In late August, early September, a few days before Gerry and Kate were constituted arguidos, for suspicions of the negligent death of their daughter Madeleine, a top member of staff of Judiciaria commented the following: “After buying ourselves a war with British media, we are now buying one with English police.”
Over the last few weeks, the Policia Judiciaria has been silent, which was helped by the fact that the spokesman of this force for that case, Olegario Sousa, has left that function, which he occupied since the child’s disappearance.

Seven Common Signs of Lying
No eye contact.
Generally, if someone is lying they will not look you in the eye, at least during a certain part of the conversation. Normally, people make eye contact for at least half of a conversation, so anything less than this could be suspicious. One caveat: there are some people who will take great pains to make eye contact with you even if they’re lying, simply to make you think they’re not.
.
Change in voice.
A change in the pitch of a person’s tone, or a lot of stammering (umm, ah), or throat clearing could indicate a lie.
Unusual body language.
If a person taps their foot a lot, fidgets with their hands, raises their shoulders, turns away from you or brings their hand to their face (to touch their chin or nose, etc.) — in other words, if they act nervous or uncomfortable — it could mean they’re telling a lie. Also watch out for blushing (or becoming pale) and increased blinking.
Something sounds fishy.
Making statements that contradict each other, are inconsistent or don’t sound quite right are usually part of a lie.
Overly defensive.
Sometimes when a person is lying they will become extremely defensive, refusing to answer any questions and even accusing you of lying. This may mean they have something to hide.
Changes subject easily.
If someone is lying and you change the subject, chances are high that they’ll go right along with it. A person telling the truth, however, will likely ask why you changed the subject and want to go back to it.
Humor or sarcasm.
A guilty person will often try to change the subject using humor or sarcasm.
Of course, no one behavior can tell for sure whether or not someone is telling the truth or lying. While you should trust your instinct, if you’re not sure it’s best to try to get some evidence to back up your accusation. Rather than relying on a specific behavior, catching a liar in the act is best done by watching their normal behaviors. When those behaviors suddenly change, that’s when a lie has likely been told.

The McCanns: One hundred and fifty days - and nothing but lies and deceit
More than one hundred and fifty days have passed since little Madeleine McCann disappeared. A little girl whose plight has touched the hearts and lives of millions around the world. We feel for her, we cry for her, we hope like hell Maddy will miraculously reappear. The parents meanwhile hope this will all be over by Christmas.
One hundred and fifty days of lies, deceit, misleading statements and constant efforts by the parents and their motley-crew of cash-for-comment sycophants to undermine the efforts of those involved in looking for the daughter they deliberately betrayed, the child whose needs they consciously ignored. The little mite who had no one to rely on but two people who were determined that nothing was going to spoil their holiday, and who are now even more determined to avoid stains on their reputation and to avoid justice - even for the undeniable offence of neglect.
One hundred and fifty days - and what has their bizarre, obscene and insulting campaign achieved?
Portugal and Morocco vilified and blamed for the fate of the child that was legally and morally the responsibility of the parents. The British press portrayed a dignified and well presented Moroccan family as “gaudily dressed” and “impoverished” - a family who in a few days showed more dignity and integrity than any of the McCann or Healy families have demonstrated over nearly five months of deliberate and coordinated blame-shifting.
There is one thing the British can do well, and that is play the race card. “Scruffy Muslims “Gang of Moroccans” “Portuguese Imbeciles” and “gaudily dressed woman”. When in trouble - blame it on the wogs, for truly that is the British way - and the UK media played it to the hilt.
Enter Tricky-Dicky Branson, the King of Sleaze, famous for a lifestyle that involves sex, drugs and rock and roll - and for being a good friend and associate of Gordon Brown - the man famous for having Gerry McCanns telephone number and occasionally for being Prime Minister of a country that has become a nation in which lies and hypocrisy are used to protect the chosen few at the expense of a little girls plight. I may not have McCann’s telephone number - but at least I don’t steal my speeches from American politicians.
Branson stepped forward to help the McCanns with their legal fees - thereby openly condoning child neglect. Sex, cocaine, ecstasy, cannabis and open support of child neglect - a fine role model for Britains young - the ones looked after by their parents. If this had happened in Florida, I wonder if Branson would have been quite so keen to viciously attack America and his American market?
I did not see Branson jet over to get down on his hands and knees and comb the scrubland around the resort for clues - but then again, neither did the parents. Only the Portuguese residents and Portuguese police did that. The McCanns just sat posing for photographs and interviews, leaving the viewer confused as to wether they were watching a damage control exercise or a promotional video for Cuddle Cats new CD, “I will survive”.
Every sighting of Madeleine has been lauded as “credible” with those involved claiming to be “certain” it was “her”. In fact, in some cases, the witnesses have been proved to be connected to the McCanns. Yet every single report proved fruitless.
At the same time, any evidence pointing towards the McCanns, is quickly dismissed with the now predictable package of recycled words and phrases that have become part of the English language. To give you an example of how stupid Team McCann now look to those used to more efficient and professional media environments, the Sydney Morning Herald introduced an article on the new citizen test with the word, “ludicrous” highlighted by quotation marks!
One hundred and fifty days of finger-pointing and slurs against others. If we believe everything Team McCann are spouting, there were more people in and around the holiday apartment or have kidnapped Madeleine, than in Tesco on a Saturday morning. Everyone seemed to know so much - but waited until months after to tell anyone. So much for an awareness campaign if even those involved appear to be ignorant of the relevance of such information.
The other day I was listening to Sydney radio, and the regular live telephone hook-up with a journalist in London, (a regular feature for years - not everything revolves around the McCanns). The journalist was talking about another topic and finished with the observation, “these days in Britain, nothing is as it appears”.
That’s why we are here. To pull the mask of deceit of this grotesque charade. I don’t know what happened to Madeleine, but I do know that the McCanns failed to protect Maddy, they failed to give her security, they failed to give her the opportunity to grow up safely and happily without fear or danger.
They failed - and continue to fail Madeline in so many ways, yet they have succeeded in avoiding any official censure. They knew they would, “get by with a little help from their friends”.
Madeleine had friends too I would imagine, though we never seem to hear from the parents of such friends or see too many photos of Madeleine with other children.
I don’t know about you, but I would rather see a little girl’s smiling, laughing face while she plays on a bouncy castle or on a swing, than on a tacky T shirt on an online-shop, or on a supermarket trolley.
Photographs in which Maddy is neither smiling nor laughing.

THE DAILY EXPRESS ARTICLE
“MADELEINE: NOW PSYCHICS USED IN HUNT” - COMMENTS
======
The McCanns are turning to psychics in their quest to find their missing daughter.
COMMENT: Manifestly contrary to their reputed ‘devout’ Catholic faith. Without question, the Bible, both in the Old and New Testaments, has numerous severe warnings about the dangers of calling up spirits. Look what happened to Saul when he went off to consult a medium. Samuel gave him a right telling-off!
======
The admission came as it was revealed police officers investigating Madeleine’s disappearance have checked about 150 statements sent by mediums who claim to have had visions of her abduction.
COMMENT: The massive, over-the-top publicity about this case has caused numerous time-consuming diversions for the Portuguese police. IMO the intention of the McCanns all along
======
Sources close to the family said detectives could not dismiss any information in case it was the work of the abductor. Recently, family members have been in contact with Scottish hairdresser Gordon Smith, who calls himself the Psychic Barber.
COMMENT: Authorised by the McCanns
======
The couple are also reading about the spirit world, on the recommendation of one of Gerry’s relatives.
COMMENT: As devout Catholics, they should be advised to read what the Bible says first of all. What is their source for ‘information about the ’spirit world”?
======
A friend said: “Gerry and Kate are both doctors. They are logical people and they are also devout Catholics, so it would seem to go against everything they believe in…”
COMMENT: Exactly
======
“…but it is not being entirely ruled out”.
COMMENT: Because it keeps the story moving
======
“They have been contacted by around 1,000 psychics and mediums.”
COMMENT: How many offered their ’services’ free of charge?
======
Among the visions was one from a man who identified a farm in Spain and gave part of a car registration. His details were handed to police but nothing has come of it.
COMMENT: Another time waster. ‘Part of a car registration’! How helpful was that??!
======
But family spokesman Clarence Mitchell said: “I must stress that Kate and Gerry have not directly approached any psychic”.
COMMENT: So that they can deny being ‘directly involved’ if the approach(es) proves embarrassing for any reason. The same reason that planted stories by Team McCann are always from ‘a source close to the family’ or ‘a source close to the McCanns’ etc. They can deny making them if necessary
======
“However any information that has any degree of plausibility we will investigate it.”
COMMENT: Yes, Clarence. Like Madeleine having been seen with a family group of Morrocans*, and by an anonymous person who wrote to Prince Charles months after the event. It may well be, Clarence, that one day we will all ask ourselves if you have ‘any degree of plausibilty’
[* which by the way you did not 'investigate' - the Evening Standard reporter did that for you for free - but instead you shamelessly used the photo, nearly a month after it was taken, as a publicity opportunity to keep the abduction theory alive and in the public eye]
October 2nd, 2007 at 10:00 am
22 From the Daily Express poster Tony Bennett mentions:
‘The McCanns are guilty of criminal offences in both countries and are still more interested in protecting themselves than in finding Madeline a fact proven by their refusal to answer any question!
What question could anyone ask you that would mean that you would choose to not answer and risk your own childs safety further than you already had?
I cannot think of one let alone forty!’
Maybe more people will start to consider the motives for their refusal to fully cooperate with the PJ now that former BRITISH detectives are speaking out. The poster above is absolutely right. What parent would not do everything in their power to get their child back? (Answer: those who have something to hide?)
October 2nd, 2007 at 10:00 am
Slyfox 39
I can’t see how that would work. The only statements that have standing in the court will be the statements given by the witnesses to portuguese police. If changes to the original statements are requested by the witnesses, the requests need to be addressed to the PJ and all changes are marked in the statement. These statements have been examined by the Public prosecutor in the file.
I’m afraid that any statements of the holiday friends compiled by the McCann lawyers and contradicting their original statements to the PJ will not have any legal standing and will only increase suspicion of their involvement in this case.

Thank goodness for the sane Anorak retreat.
The press are barking mad, the McCann’s are morphing into the Mcjokes.
One bit of (true/untrue) interesting news is in the Mail where a “source close to the legal team” says that their legal team has carried out it’s own independent investigation - “interviews with every witness they can find to the events of May 3rd” and that the evidence will be passed on to the prosecutor Luis Bilro Verao.
In the expectation that he will throw out the case, and if not, they will use their independently gathered evidence to counteract so that “…if the portuguese police claim one piece of evidence points one way, we can immediately use the same evidence to prove a different point”
Sorry no link.
Can they do this? Is this where all the “new” witnesses in the press have come from, this independent investigation?
