Madeleine McCann: ‘Bad Dad’ Gerry McCann, The Psychic Barber And Drugs
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “Madeleine was drugged but it was by kidnapper says her grandmother.”
Page 9: “Madeleine’s family: She was drugged…but not by parents.”
Eileen McCann, Gerry’s mother – says: “I really believe they [whoever took her] gave her a drug. There is no way they carried her out of there without her waking. If she was taken when she was sleeping by somebody she did not know, she would have screamed the place down.”
Alternatively, she was taken by someone she did know? Or Mrs McCann is just speculating.
“’BAD DAD’ GERRY” – Carlos Anjos, head of the Portuguese Police Federation, says Gerry, “a heart consultant”, is a “negligent father”. This is his “astonishing rant”.
THE SUN front page: “Mystics hunt for Maddie.”
Around 150 leads provided by mystics have been followed up.
Page 6: “ASK PSYCHIC BARBER TO HELP FIND MADDIE” – Clairvoyant Gordon Smith has been contacted by the family. Smith hosts TV’s Most Haunted show. He says he can tell if Madeleine is alive or dead. Mick is nicknamed “THE PSYCHIC BARBER”.
DAILY MIRROR front page: “McCANNS: SHE WAS DRUGGED.”
Page 5: “‘Madeleine must have been drugged..she would have screamed place down’” – GRANDMOTHER EILEEN McCANN YESTERDAY.”
“Couple call on psychic to help” – Ex-hairdresser Smith is a “wacky medium”.
Says he: “In order for it to work I need to sit with the closest relatives who would be the parents. Then I’d tune in and see what I can pick up. But I would always warn them that there’s a possibility nothing might happen.”
Best to warn them of that first…
DAILY MAIL page 5: “Now police leader mocks ‘negligent’ Gerry McCann over his fears that an abductor was in Maddie’s room.”
“Call for the ‘psychic barber’” – “Despite both being strict Roman Catholics, the couple have already made contact” with Gordon Smith.
DAILY STAR front page: “MADDIE I’LL FIND BODY IN DAYS. Parents call in psychic.”
Page 7: “MADDIE’S PARENTS CALL FOR PSYCHIC BARBER” – “I have offered my help for free,” says Smith. “I never charge for private readings. I have already assured them I will say nothing to the press.” Indeed, not. Best save it for the book.
DAILY TELEGRAPH page 15: “Police chief accuses McCanns of hindering inquiry” – Carlos Anjos accuses McCanns of using “diversion tactics”.
THE TIMES page 27: “McCanns ‘considering psychic help’”
THE GUARDIAN no Maddie new today.

Stig,
Let me get this straight: You are saying ‘Propaganda Matrix’ reports facts? That’s one of hte most questionable sites I’ve ever had the displeasure to visit. Great for a laugh. The blogger who posted it I don’t know anything about but Propaganda Matrix is just that:
Propaganda [from modern Latin: 'propaganda', literally "propagating"] is a concerted set of messages aimed at influencing the opinions or behavior of large numbers of people. Instead of impartially providing information, propaganda in its most basic sense presents information in order to influence its audience. The most effective propaganda is often completely truthful, but some propaganda presents facts selectively to encourage a particular synthesis, or gives loaded messages in order to produce an emotional rather than rational response to the information presented. The desired result is a change of the cognitive narrative of the subject in the target audience.
Matrix, an originally Latin word now taken into numerous languages, is derived from “mater” (mother). In the time of the Roman Empire it referred to an aqueduct with multiple branches serving many cities, and thus figuratively a “mother” feeding many “children” (for example, the Aqua Augusta which provided water to eight cities in Campania).
From there, the meaning expanded to include complex systems in many fields and contexts.
For someone who is always spouting he’s for facts and the truth and how we all need to stop wondering and theorising - I’m floored you would offer Propaganda Matrix as a factual source for even the most innocuous info.

Jolie, I see your point, but the reason I started coming on here was because so very many of the people here seem SO eager to believe the McCanns are guilty, to the point of accusing them (and t heir friends!!) of truly bizarre atrocities, things that are entirely implausible and for which there is precisely ZERO evidence. I have not come to the defense of the McCanns at every turn; however, I think, in absence of any real true EVIDENCE against them, it is unfathomably hurtful to be accusing them of these things, based on false and misleading evidence. You guys would be on here theorizing and speculating for hours on end about how they killed her, how they moved her body, how they covered it up, and I believe it’s important that you have a few rational voices piping in frequently to remind you that all your theorizing– which would be TERRIBLY hurtful if the McCanns were innocent — is based on nothing more than a few (probably false and misleading) leaks to the Portugese media by some clerks. It makes me feel queasy. So I keep typing.

Chloe - had did another vision last night about Maddie - trying to locate where she is. Images of sewer water, big pipe, swirling water and a metal grate?

McCann’s Are Not Innocent
Parents who intentionally leave three 2/3 year olds alone and unprotected and further endanger them by leaving them in an unlocked apartment in a foreign country are not innocent.
They are proven guilty by their own account, what is not yet known is the degree of guilt.

Amazing how one detective could be involved in two cases of missing daughters in his jurisdiction where the mothers are suspected of being responsible for the deaths of said daughters. What are the odds that there are any other detectives in Portugal or the UK or the US who may have had the same number or more of similar cases. It must be unheard of [sarcasm].
You have read about all the testimony and witnesses and the girl’s blood found in the mother’s refrigerator, that was presented at the Cipriano trial, right?
October 2nd, 2007 at 10:19 pm
i think the police should investigate clarence mitchell why like that first suspect does he seem to be showing interest in the mccanns case. i dont understand why someone would leave his highly paid job to be a spokesperson of people he hardly knows. i think they said he worked for bbc as a journalist? if so is he saying the mccann case is the most ludicrous case he has ever come across in his journalism job. mmm i wonder.i smell something fishy about him.

“The USA version of Cnn.Com”
LOL, Krissie, if you have to say it like that, you ain’t an American - you’re outted you big liar!! You’re a Brit.
CNN.com is American. It’s not “The USA version”. It’s an American company, so there is a British version or Spanish version but there is no USA version of CNN - or CNN.com. CNN - Like Ted Turner - IS AMERICAN. Period.
No one calls it the USA version. That’s just LUDICROUS!! And definitely not Americans. Houston Texas, my arse!!

We can read mate, thats the second time you have tried to drag peoples attention in that direction. Why don’t you go and give your children some of the care and attention you are always criticising a lack of from others.

STIG, thank you!!! Yes, there’s quite a bit of information floating around out there about corruption within the PJ, pedophile rings (many with ties also to Robert Murat, etc). There are a lot of people who unfortunately have not come to argue here, but who believe Madeleine was taken by some people and the PJ KNOW who it was and are protecting them. I’m not saying I’m a proponent of this theory, but only that there’s some evidence to this effect if you do a little searching. It’s easily as plausible, in the big picture, as the McCanns having seven friends willing to risk their entire lives to help them cover up their daughter’s murder.
I’m not a proponent of psychics and think this guy is probably as phony as the rest of them, but a perusal of the Brians Dreams site about Madeleine McCann really is fascinating, in terms of some of the websites they are monitoring, websites which seem to be talking in code regarding Madeleine… I’m unfortunately not fluent in Spanish or Portugese or I would have looked into them myself.

Wonder who will want to go on holidays with the McCanns next year?

No, the Portuguese press article doesn’t specify. It appears that Pinto de Abreu was being interviewed about the comments made by Carlos Anjos and Gonçalo Amaral about the McCanns not collaborating with the police, etc.
One thing that also draws my attention (although I speak Spanish, not Portuguese, so I may be wrong) is that he appears to say that he regrets the fact that he doesn’t have access to the information on the proceedings (I think the word he uses refers specifically to the information that the judge has). So this would mean that, although the McCanns are arguidos, they don’t have full information.

871. Nice observation Stevo.
That same demographic believes:
~The UK police are “good” and PJ are “bad”.
~Wealthy negligent parents suffer enough from their own stupidity; poor parents need to be punished to the fullest extent of the law for child negligence.
~Attractive people cannot commit murder; murderers are hideously ugly.
~Roman Catholics cannot commit murder; only atheists can kill.
~Anglo culture and anglo people are honest, upstanding and refined;Mediterranean people are shifty, lazy and eat and drink like peasants. (Oh and they have satanic sweat glands.)

I don’t know what’s so hard to understand about the fact that most of the information ALL of us have is unsubstantiated, on both sides of the great divide. As has been mentioned many times, we are engaged in speculation.
From what I read in your posts, you’ve come to defend the McCanns at all costs, with the primary goal of bashing anyone who says negative things about them or discuss the case.
How interesting would it be if we all wrote the following:
“Madeleine McCann is missing. There are many theories and some evidence but very little has been officially released. No one in the general public has any real knowledge of what really happened. Let’s not discuss this together.”
or the shorter version:
“The McCanns should be considered innocent until proven guilty. Now everyone can leave the site and go do something else.”
You’re welcome to stay and do what you do, but the purpose of most of us here to is try to make sense of what has been put out in the press and try to separate the wheat from the chaff.

DeeDee. Sorry. Yes. That was a joke. I was trying to make a point but , well, people took it seriously.

Pictures purporting to show the result of the beatings are on the page I linked to in post 888
October 2nd, 2007 at 10:11 pm
884 - krissie. I agree it made sense to demote Amaral and I certainly do not condone anyone getting beaten up - either in police custody or in prison. However, I know that the way that this is being viewed and will be spun by Team McCanns to highlight (alleged) Portugese brutality and ineptitude. Instead I think they should be commended for weeding out a potentially rotten fish from the barrel.

Does anyone believe charges are still possible or will it have to be at the pearly gates : Sorry you’re not on the guest list, why not try downstairs (eternal tapas, babysitting frowned upon, oh and lying to the world gets you a really good table)?
And lots of British journos politicos and PR types there of course.
Hope to God I miss that party.
Someone cheer me up and tell me PJ are playing a very clever long game.

If, and I say IF he did have something to do with framing Cipriano for the death of her daughter - for which no body was ever found - it might be reasonable to ask why he would go to such lengths to gain a conviction. I am not saying any of this is true, I am just speaking hypothetically.
Would it be possible he was covering up something he himself had done, or which he facilitated others to do?
What do we have now? A girl gone missing and a seemingly single minded determination to lay the blame on the parents. Who is/was leading this investigation also - the same person.
Do you see a pattern yet?
Someone else has taken this further to even more sinister lengths:
http://tinyurl.com/2my7p8
There is a link on that page called ‘Portugal’s elite linked to paedophile ring’ that takes you to a hole other level of nasty posiibilities.
October 2nd, 2007 at 10:08 pm
So what happened now?
Amaral was sacked because he implied the Prince of Wales is a blockhead?
October 2nd, 2007 at 10:07 pm
Krissie - were you not the one who had evidence last night that the McCann’s had sold Madeleine’s organs on the blackmarket - or am I confused????
October 2nd, 2007 at 10:06 pm
Stevo, you are a LAWYER?
October 2nd, 2007 at 10:05 pm
Batman, good point. But I dont’ think I said I know whether she was beaten or not, only that the innocent as well as the guilty have been beaten by cops in times past, in all countries across the world across history. So Cipriano’s guilt or innocence is not relevant to whether or not she was beaten up by the cops. I did say earlier (several hundred messages ago) that I have no idea whether the allegations are true about the beatings, but it does make for bad press for the PJ, so it makes sense to me they demoted Amaral. The Madeleine thing was bringing too much focus to the beating allegations.
October 2nd, 2007 at 10:05 pm
854. My sources tell me Leonor Cipriano (FACT) never confessed to the crime. Please re-read my earlier posting. If you would like more information on this case I have a few other interesting articles.
I have no desire to persuade you one way or the other. I simply find your reading and retention skills questionable. And your cyclopic personal beliefs and why you think you are always right odd….with all due respect of course.
October 2nd, 2007 at 10:05 pm
Stevo - I would love to know the outcome of the case and good luck! Hopefully you are in a large enough town that they aren’t all connected and you are the outsider.
October 2nd, 2007 at 10:02 pm
874 - krissie. With due respect…are you maybe wild-theorozing too regarding whether or not the PJ were responsible for that beating? As you say yourself. We do not know.
October 2nd, 2007 at 10:02 pm
If Kate and Gerry did swing…was Hot Lips Healy referring to her mouth or somewhere else? Just wondering…you never know.
October 2nd, 2007 at 10:00 pm
The USA version of Cnn.Com has today a top headline about a mom who apparently drowned her two children in the bathtub following years of abuse by her spouse. Sigh. I guess we will soon see whether she has any record of mental illness. My bet is: Yes.
SOMEONE, earlier today, maybe Jolie, posted something about information about Kate’s personality/mental health during her college years, and how it has been skipped over by the British press. Can anyone provide me with any links to earlier stories/information about what her college cohorts said about her?
October 2nd, 2007 at 10:00 pm
(864) Jolie.
Reading what you wrote made me think that, at least in Spain, it is not uncommon for prisoners who have raped or killed children to have very serious problems with other prisoners. I haven’t read up about the Leonor Cipriano case in any great depth but, if she was remanded in custody because she was accused of brutally murdering her daughter, she would probably have to be kept in isolation if no harm was to come to her. (Just a hypothesis - that’s what they would do here, at least).
