Madeleine McCann: ‘Bad Dad’ Gerry McCann, The Psychic Barber And Drugs
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “Madeleine was drugged but it was by kidnapper says her grandmother.”
Page 9: “Madeleine’s family: She was drugged…but not by parents.”
Eileen McCann, Gerry’s mother – says: “I really believe they [whoever took her] gave her a drug. There is no way they carried her out of there without her waking. If she was taken when she was sleeping by somebody she did not know, she would have screamed the place down.”
Alternatively, she was taken by someone she did know? Or Mrs McCann is just speculating.
“’BAD DAD’ GERRY” – Carlos Anjos, head of the Portuguese Police Federation, says Gerry, “a heart consultant”, is a “negligent father”. This is his “astonishing rant”.
THE SUN front page: “Mystics hunt for Maddie.”
Around 150 leads provided by mystics have been followed up.
Page 6: “ASK PSYCHIC BARBER TO HELP FIND MADDIE” – Clairvoyant Gordon Smith has been contacted by the family. Smith hosts TV’s Most Haunted show. He says he can tell if Madeleine is alive or dead. Mick is nicknamed “THE PSYCHIC BARBER”.
DAILY MIRROR front page: “McCANNS: SHE WAS DRUGGED.”
Page 5: “‘Madeleine must have been drugged..she would have screamed place down’” – GRANDMOTHER EILEEN McCANN YESTERDAY.”
“Couple call on psychic to help” – Ex-hairdresser Smith is a “wacky medium”.
Says he: “In order for it to work I need to sit with the closest relatives who would be the parents. Then I’d tune in and see what I can pick up. But I would always warn them that there’s a possibility nothing might happen.”
Best to warn them of that first…
DAILY MAIL page 5: “Now police leader mocks ‘negligent’ Gerry McCann over his fears that an abductor was in Maddie’s room.”
“Call for the ‘psychic barber’” – “Despite both being strict Roman Catholics, the couple have already made contact” with Gordon Smith.
DAILY STAR front page: “MADDIE I’LL FIND BODY IN DAYS. Parents call in psychic.”
Page 7: “MADDIE’S PARENTS CALL FOR PSYCHIC BARBER” – “I have offered my help for free,” says Smith. “I never charge for private readings. I have already assured them I will say nothing to the press.” Indeed, not. Best save it for the book.
DAILY TELEGRAPH page 15: “Police chief accuses McCanns of hindering inquiry” – Carlos Anjos accuses McCanns of using “diversion tactics”.
THE TIMES page 27: “McCanns ‘considering psychic help’”
THE GUARDIAN no Maddie new today.

No, no, I’m not really a pagan, I dont’ follow any faith at all, and in fact, as I get older, find myself increasingly an atheist. But I’m in the habit of saying I”m a pagan if anyone asks. Just because there are so many evangelical Christians running around the US at the moment, it’s nice to let them know squarely where you stand.

993. I thought you lived in England and ‘Most Haunted’ was going to do some hocus pocus in your home?
October 2nd, 2007 at 11:09 pm
Oh God. Not the dogs again.
October 2nd, 2007 at 11:09 pm
Nothing is obvious. Except I think perhaps, the only suspect squirming - the McCanns - their uncomfortable facial expressions - very very obvious. Still, means nothing.
The rest is just a big unknown. Theory upon theory and more what ifs mean nothing.

actually, i live in the sw usa.
October 2nd, 2007 at 11:08 pm
968. Why not post under your real name if you are so smart? Why be ashamed to waste all that intelligence behind a fake name (a lame one at that)? What cause am I promoting? None. I simply believe you’re a toublemaker who is picking on Krissie for absolutely no justifiable reason. Anyway, I know who you are. You’re one of a handful of troublemakers on Anorak posting under stupid user names or under the user names of others to create even more confusion with fraudulent comments. Se palucher.

gosh if catholics were muslims on this forum !!!?
we are so tolerent of you heathens
October 2nd, 2007 at 11:08 pm
Krissie- One of my relatives was a surgeon in the SW USA and he repeatedly warned his family about the organ harvesting that goes on in the backwoods of America, for example when someone gets in a car accident. Easy way to make a living.
October 2nd, 2007 at 11:07 pm
i think the truth is the underdog.

Krissie Says:

Yes, I am in the SW USA
No one says “I live in the SW USA”. Oh my God. You’re burying yourself deeper.
They DO say SW London. SW England. YES, they do.
But not SW USA.
That’s another dead give away. Do you want a shovel? You’re digging pretty deep there in the SW USA. LOL
Stick to the lingo baby…..unless you want to keep on being outted.

people can’t even agree who the underdog is though.
October 2nd, 2007 at 11:04 pm
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, even ones based upon hunches, or thinly layered news releases. What else do we have?

Costumes of the McCann’s? Well, what is wrong with that?
The McCann’s are the quintessential masquerade artists.
BRAVO Chicago.

I like to stick up for the underdog, too, if I believe in their cause, even if I’m in the minority or especially if I’m in the minority.
I don’t think there is anything wrong with discussing the case at this point on the forum. I would have a big problem with people writing to the McCanns and telling them what they think of them because that would be unfair and hurtful when there is still reasonable doubt about everything except the irresponsibility of leaving their small children alone, unsupervised and unprotected.
There is a lot of anger toward the actions of the McCanns and their statements and the statements of ‘friends and family’ close to the McCanns and the obvious overwhelming political and financial support for people in high places.
The forum gives people a place to vent and to wonder why. That, in and of itself is harmless. Some people here do go too far with wanting to string them up before they’re tried, but most are just debating and theorizing, which is exactly what the police are and should be doing. We’re just doing it via media reports, for what they’re worth, without physical evidence, because, at this time, that’s all we have.

I fully realise this awful stuff happens in the UK, Belgium, France - everywhere. I am not singling out Portugal. I only brought it up because considering the amazing theories flying around here about the McCanns, no one seems to ever contemplate the possibility that Madeleine and Ciprianos daughter Joana might be victims of an organised effort. How, given the recent history of such matters in Portugal, is that an unreasonable thing to contemplate?
The subject under discussion is Madelines disappearance. That took place in Portugal so exploring the history of pedophile activity in Portugal is germane and pertinent, it is not bigotry.

967 - I have just assumed that these huge news organizations all have foreign offices/bureaus and those offices/bureaus
Yes, they do. But they don’t call the “home bureau”
Do you say BBC British version?
Sounds really redundant, huh??
My point is you’re NOT American.
That’s all……go on and Call it CNN USA and knock yerself out. If they want to listen, they’re as dumb as you are. I’m off to watch CNN.com USA now. LOL
October 2nd, 2007 at 11:03 pm
TonyB - what about getting some people who’d donated to the FindMaddie fund to demand their money back, claiming it had been obtained by misrepresentation or something?
Then either the Fund would have to return the money (which wouldn’t look too good), or you could run a token case or something like a class action to recover sums donated - giving you a chance to dissect that misrepresentation (and thus the McCann version[s] of events) in court.

wasn’t it queen mary the first that used to say
‘winter is god’s way of saying burn more catholics’?
October 2nd, 2007 at 11:02 pm
968 I cannot even make sense of that post. What are you trying to say??
October 2nd, 2007 at 11:01 pm
It think it is very beneficial to have bloggers point out facts and hold firm to their ideas and say but what if xyz, And did you forget xyz? No matter what “camp” someone leans to, or switches to, and maybe just rides the middle of the road. Hearing the arguments is helpful. It’s a shame we don’t know if what the “News” is telling us - has any truth to it -
For sure something is up, and I still think it’s that ace up the sleeve.
October 2nd, 2007 at 11:00 pm
947 - Stig. Now you have gone and ruined everything. I thought you were being very restrained and balanced today…..up to now. What is your angle on this? What are you trying to say?
October 2nd, 2007 at 11:00 pm
Btw, I am most certainly not Catholic, although most of my neighbors are. I’m a hippie pagan.

Yes, I am in the SW USA and have never made any claim to the contrary. And, when I’ve been pulling your leg, I’ve admitted it. (Ie, the organ harvesting theory). And, there were SEVERAL people who stated that organ harvesting was as plausible as anything else here.
October 2nd, 2007 at 10:59 pm
968 = You hate to be corrected or wrong.
Obvious typo but you’ll be all over that one in a heartbeat.

952 - And you Paulette HATE to be correct or to be wrong.
And you are just dead pan wrong. Straws? You’re grasping in vain at them.
You know not what you say.
Do you really think you are going to win this argument??
No, Krissie’s not a phoney ONLY because of that post. There were 500 others that reflected this too. This one is just so irritating - it needed to come out.
Don’t defend someone who is on a sinking ship. Especially when you are clearly out of your league here. You never miss an oppty to argue your cause though. I would definitely recommend law if you have not already done so. You love to prove your points - even when you are wrong. It’s not a good strategy though - it loses your credibility factor.
Stick to what you do best. Arm Chair sleuthing and hurling insults at the McCanns. You’re very good at both. Hey, guess what? I don’t disagree w/ the latter either. I am right there with you. Although not as harsh and unyielding as you in that department.
