Madeleine McCann: Amaral Policing, Secrets Out And EastEnders
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE: PORTUGUESE POLICE CHIEF IS SACKED AFTER AMAZING OUTBURST.”
Page 9: “Madeleine detective kicked off case after blasting British police” – Chief inspector Goncalo Amaral says: “The British police have only been working on what the McCann couple want them to and what suits them.”
Says Amaral: “The Ocean Club is in Praia da Luz, not in London…It won’t be an email, and an anonymous one at that, which will distract our line of investigation.”
Mr Amaral is making reference to the email sent to the official website of the Prince of Wales last week claming a vengeful nanny had abducted Madeleine.
Pages 30 and 31: “HAIR-RAISING TRUTH ABOUT THE PSYCHIC BARBER – During the day Gordon Smith cuts hair, at night he claims he communes with the spirits. So does he really think he can help the McCanns find Madeleine?”
THE WORLD’S GREATEST NEWSPAPER confirms that former EastEnders actress Michelle Collins is a “BELIEVER”.
DAILY MAIL page 7: “Off the case. Madeleine police chief demoted after amazing rant against McCanns and British detectives”
Say Amaral: “They [the English] have been investigating tip-offs and information created and worked upon by the McCanns”
DAILY STAR front page: “MADDIE: CHIEF COP SACKED.”
Page 10: “INSPECTOR CLUELESS GETS THE BOOT”
Page 11: “If Maddie IS dead she will tell me where he body is” – Says Gordon Smith
DAILY MIRROR front page: “Maddy copper is axed”
Page 7: “OFF THE CASE – Boozy cop is demoted after furious outburst against the McCanns”
THE SUN page 7: “MADDIE COP FIRED FOR McCANNS RANT – storm as bungler says family duped Brit police”
Comments Clarence Mitchell: “I can confirm that Kate and Gerry are aware of this development but we cannot comment”
THE GUARDIAN page 7: “Detective leading hunt for Madeleine sacked after blast at UK police” – Mr Amaral is 47. He has been demoted. He is 48 in the Sun. Such are the facts
Carols Pinto de Abreu, the McCanns’ Portuguese lawyer, says: “The McCanns cannot confess to something they did not do and cannot and should not lie to please the police”
THE INDEPENDENT page 8: “Detective leading Madeleine hunt dropped from case after outburst” – Amaral is being investigated over an alleged attack on the mother of a different missing girl. Read about that here
THE TIMES front page: “Detective in charge of McCann case sacked”
Page 9: “Madeleine detective sacked after outburst”
Alipio Ribeiro, Amaral’s boss, says: “The police should be discreet and keep quiet, but there is always someone who talks” – So much for those secrecy laws
DAILY TELEGRAPH page 15: “Madeleine inquiry chief sacked after attack on British police”
A “family friend” of the McCanns says: “What he [Mr Amaral] is saying is just plain wrong. Leicestershire Police are not doing anything on Kate and Gerry’s behalf. They are simply there for liaison. There is certainly no strategy to distract form the Portuguese investigation”
What investigation?

I inherited all those and more - my granny wouldn’t let anyone in the house if they wore a green coat ffs.
At my funeral I will forego the priest and rabbi if Clarence will say a few words about what a lovely bloke I am. How much do you think he will charge?

You forgot that if you receive a gift that has a sharp blade you must give the giver a coin. I know exactly what you mean.

Andy 98,thank you,my sentiments exactly. The arrogance of the British involved with the defence of the McCanns knows no boudaries.

It was and is negligent - gross and wilfull negligence made worse by the fact that as doctors with a strict code of ethics they and their doctor friends are even more morally culpable.

109 - with you on that one susannah. As I’ve posted previousley the only way that Team McC can change my mind would be to head back to portugal and present themselves to the pJ (with or without lawyers) and answer all the questions….will never happen….wonder why ..duh…

95 I use the ‘parking angel’ I must admit. Close your eyes, visualise… boo boom a space!
Irish Catholics are the worst for superstitions…. never pass a knife or scissors hand to hand, no new shoes on the table, never give a purse as a gift without a coin in it, don’t cross on the stairs, touch wood… I could go on. My mother used em all and I have inherited them. I don’t believe in it but just in case…….
who was it who said…’ I’m an atheist but when I die I want a priest and a rabbi there just incase’?

I agree wholeheartedly. Aunt Philomena probably has a heart of gold as well as fighting spirit but some things she has said have not helped. The McCann camp should have run silent, not tried to beat the Portuguese leakers at their own game.

Even if Madeleine’s body were found - the “abductors” would have done it.
There is really no way around it.
Unless there was a confession.
I am beginning to despair.

Maura, leaving the kids on their own in the apartment is not stupid and neglectful, as you say, like we all are from time to time, it is a fundamental neglect, and there are many things that can go wrong besides abduction. In fact accidents in the home are a major problem for young people, and as you rightly point out KMc was a part-time GP, she would know this.
If there are lessons to be learnt they must be that parents should not be allowed to get away with neglect without the possibility of punishment. This has to be the case if we wish for child welfare standards to improve.

Hotelier James Valarino, 65, from Gibraltar, is certain he saw the missing four-year-old in the clutches of a European man at a market in Tangiers on August 8. The sighting has given fresh hope to her parents that their daughter could still be alive 150 days after she vanished.
Last night Mr Valarino said: “I was shopping near the Old Medina about five in the afternoon when I saw a man acting nervously as he carried a little girl with blonde hair.
“At first I thought nothing strange of it because the man looked like he was the child’s father but when I got closer I saw her face and knew immediately it was Madeleine McCann.
“She was barefooted and he was trying to buy some shoes from a stall. I got closer to try to call her by her name but the man saw me and rushed off.
“The poor little child looked distressed and unhappy. She was clearly undernourished and appeared to be frightened of the man.
“He was very white, overweight and about 5ft 10in with fair hair. He looked to be in his mid-30s and appeared to be from northern Europe as he was so pale. I heard him ask the stall owner about children’s shoes in English and it sounded like his native tongue.
“He was carrying the youngster on his hip and stood at the stall for about five minutes. I did not get the chance to see her eyes but I have followed her story from the day she went missing and I am certain it was her. I only wish I had been brave enough to say something to him.”
The father of four had to wait until he returned to Gibraltar the following day to report what he had seen because Moroccan police said they could not understand him.
After making a statement in Gibraltar, Mr Valarino heard nothing more and feared the sighting had been overlooked.
Then last week four sightings of Madeleine in Morocco emerged and despite the fact that one was ruled out, private investigators working for the McCanns are believed to be following the trail in Tangiers and Marrakech, where the first sighting was made on May 9.
Last night Mr Valarino said: “I cannot believe that the police have not been back to ask more questions.
“We must do everything we can to find her and stop the suffering her poor parents are going through.
“What are the police doing? It is unbelievable that they can ignore anything that might save her life. My interview only took half an hour and they hardly seemed interested.”
Last night Gibraltar CID said any information would have been passed to the Portuguese detectives leading the inquiry.
Portuguese public prosecutor Luis Bilro Verao ordered the Portuguese police to send the letter to British police, who will then decide how and where the questions will be posed.

“President of Portuguese Bar, Mr. Rogério Alves and the Chairman of the Human Rights Commission from the Portuguese Bar”
People accuse me of being bigoted towards the Portuguese for daring to think a police officer under suspicion should not be leading such a case. I would have suggested this if it were happening in any country. I think those people are probably above reproach. I really do not think they would have said such a thing lightly or that you could ‘buy’ such a statement from such people.

The Real Stig Says:
Have you ever thought they may have taken other measures which have to remain secret? I bet they have done that as well.
Maybe if they had tried telling all the scources/ family/friends who have made comments that dont make sense to keep secret then they might not have had so much critiscm.. if you don’t keep the weeds under control they will choke out the flowers ….

48. About the Casa Pia like in all those cases, there are always people who escape. Portugal seemed to have tried to do a good job, but usually, it turns out with “Not enough evidence”. The real question is the effective sentence criminals get. It does not usually exceed 2 years, then they are freed on parole for good conduct and they start again.
Our colleague told us that in the Temse/Madeira case, they let Warwick Spinks go, though there was solid evidence he had paid the trips of the criminals. So they were not as good as on might think, yet better than Belgian police who had kept the evidence since 92 without arresting the Belgian criminals involved. They where making films in hotels as they raped children and a child was brought to be prostituted in a brothel on Belgium/Dutch boarder. Spinks was finally imprisoned in England for another case of two English boys raped, then exported to be prostituted in Holland. He was getting unemployment wages in Holland while he was in prison in England and released on parole. He immediately broke his parole and went back to Holland. Now he is in Czech Republic, I was told… Paedo paradise.

‘The Mcanns were the ones who insisted that they get a Soc.Svcs visit not the way you are trying to portray it.’
Have Leicestershire Social Services confirmed this?

94 - rumour and speculation ..
a friend of the McC’s nanny told me that the McC’s are not allowed to be alone with the twins. This would fit with standard procedure when there is a question mark about the parents in regard to child abuse. The fact is that they ARE STILL official suspects in the case of Maddies dissapearance (regardless of what team McC are spinning) and social services have to take this into account.

“The latest attempt to blacken the McCanns’ name came as it emerged that the couple are conducting a secret investigation which they hope will clear them by Christmas.
Their legal team has carried out its own interviews with every witness they can find to the events of May 3.
They will use the resulting evidence to demolish any accusations that the McCanns were involved in their four-yearold daughter’s disappearance.
In a dramatic illustration of how little faith they have in the Portuguese police, the lawyers will give their defence dossier directly to prosecutor Luis Bilro Verao.
They hope that Mr Verao will compare their evidence alongside that gathered by the Algarve police, and throw out the case.
Yesterday a friend of the McCanns, who are both doctors aged 39, revealed that the couple are convinced they will soon be in the clear.
The friend said: “(The lawyers) will make a direct approach to the Portuguese prosecutor’s office. They will say, “This is what we have got. We advise you not to go any further.”
“They will make every effort to get this ridiculous situation reversed - it is hoped before Christmas.”
All the witnesses now back in Britain have given new interviews to the McCanns’ lawyers.
They include all seven of the friends who went on holiday to Praia da Luz with the McCanns.
Yesterday a source close to the legal team said: “The idea of carrying out an independent investigation is that if the Portuguese police claim one piece of evidence points one way, we can immediately use the same evidence to prove a different point.”
The source added: “We are leaving no stone unturned on this one.”.”
–
I tried posting this yesterday.
COMMENT.
If this is the best that the four highly paid, high profile lawyers can come up with then the McCanns are wasting their (sorry, someone elses money). What legal standing will statements given to a lawyer have?
If these witnesses have evidence that can clear the McCanns why have they not given statements to the Portuguese police? Or if they have given statements to the police previously and since “remembered” something else why haven’t they informed the police of the new evidence? I hope the lawyers informed the witnesses that should the prosecutor not accept the McCann dossier then they may be called to give their statements in a court of law, under oath.
What really amazed me though is the sheer arrogance behind this action. These lawyers intend to enter a foreign country in which they have no licence to practice, give statements that hold no water legally (unless the lawyers are acting for every witness) to a public official and expect him to say, “Oh, thank you. Well this clears everything up nicely in time for Christmas. No need for a trial with all that legal stuff, you know like the presenting of evidence or witnesses giving statements under oath, we’ll say the McCanns are innocent without them having to go through that. Oh and say hello to that nice Mr Brown.”

87. The Real Stig - sorry but your comment does nothing but support the case against the McCanns. Your argument does not carry any weight. Perhaps you should see if Mr Clarkson will give you your job back on Top Gear?
I maintain that if a paedophile ring took Madeleine they would not care about anything other than acquiring children therefore logically they would have taken all 3.
