Madeleine McCann: Amaral Policing, Secrets Out And EastEnders
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE: PORTUGUESE POLICE CHIEF IS SACKED AFTER AMAZING OUTBURST.”
Page 9: “Madeleine detective kicked off case after blasting British police” – Chief inspector Goncalo Amaral says: “The British police have only been working on what the McCann couple want them to and what suits them.”
Says Amaral: “The Ocean Club is in Praia da Luz, not in London…It won’t be an email, and an anonymous one at that, which will distract our line of investigation.”
Mr Amaral is making reference to the email sent to the official website of the Prince of Wales last week claming a vengeful nanny had abducted Madeleine.
Pages 30 and 31: “HAIR-RAISING TRUTH ABOUT THE PSYCHIC BARBER – During the day Gordon Smith cuts hair, at night he claims he communes with the spirits. So does he really think he can help the McCanns find Madeleine?”
THE WORLD’S GREATEST NEWSPAPER confirms that former EastEnders actress Michelle Collins is a “BELIEVER”.
DAILY MAIL page 7: “Off the case. Madeleine police chief demoted after amazing rant against McCanns and British detectives”
Say Amaral: “They [the English] have been investigating tip-offs and information created and worked upon by the McCanns”
DAILY STAR front page: “MADDIE: CHIEF COP SACKED.”
Page 10: “INSPECTOR CLUELESS GETS THE BOOT”
Page 11: “If Maddie IS dead she will tell me where he body is” – Says Gordon Smith
DAILY MIRROR front page: “Maddy copper is axed”
Page 7: “OFF THE CASE – Boozy cop is demoted after furious outburst against the McCanns”
THE SUN page 7: “MADDIE COP FIRED FOR McCANNS RANT – storm as bungler says family duped Brit police”
Comments Clarence Mitchell: “I can confirm that Kate and Gerry are aware of this development but we cannot comment”
THE GUARDIAN page 7: “Detective leading hunt for Madeleine sacked after blast at UK police” – Mr Amaral is 47. He has been demoted. He is 48 in the Sun. Such are the facts
Carols Pinto de Abreu, the McCanns’ Portuguese lawyer, says: “The McCanns cannot confess to something they did not do and cannot and should not lie to please the police”
THE INDEPENDENT page 8: “Detective leading Madeleine hunt dropped from case after outburst” – Amaral is being investigated over an alleged attack on the mother of a different missing girl. Read about that here
THE TIMES front page: “Detective in charge of McCann case sacked”
Page 9: “Madeleine detective sacked after outburst”
Alipio Ribeiro, Amaral’s boss, says: “The police should be discreet and keep quiet, but there is always someone who talks” – So much for those secrecy laws
DAILY TELEGRAPH page 15: “Madeleine inquiry chief sacked after attack on British police”
A “family friend” of the McCanns says: “What he [Mr Amaral] is saying is just plain wrong. Leicestershire Police are not doing anything on Kate and Gerry’s behalf. They are simply there for liaison. There is certainly no strategy to distract form the Portuguese investigation”
What investigation?

Two more gems from today’s newspapers:
Asked if it was true the McCann’s were identifying lines of inquiry for Leicestershire Police, he (Clarence) replied: “Of course not, it’s an absolutely ridiculous suggestion. It is a Portuguese-led inquiry and will remain so. And, of course, from time to time there is communication with Gerry and Kate as there would be in any police investigation. It is ludicrous to suggest that they have done anything like that.”
(Comment: He did manage a “ridiculous”, but then “ludicrous” just had to slip in!)
“Gerry also described how life is beginning to settle down for the McCanns in Rotheley, saying the twins have settled back into nursery “almost as if they have never been away”.
(Comment: They would do; must feel just like being on ‘holiday’ in that darn creche all day !!!)

If you are american could you please answer me a question? Do forensic officers in Miami really get to drive around in Hummers as in CSI Miami?

“I can confirm that Kate and Gerry are aware of this development but we cannot comment”
Well, there’s a first time for everything! if only they’d kept schtum from the start and maintained a dignified silence, they might have more people on their side right now.

23 Indeed he was, but his timing was bad. As the chief investigating officer he should not have voiced those opinions at that time. I am sorry that he did so, because I think his removal from the case is a retrograde step and provides even further ammunition for the McCanns distasteful PR campaign.

Very interesting point - and I think very sadly true. Hmmmm one to ponder.

Didnt really mean it lol

Another sad aspect of all this is that if in future any other parent really does think their child has been abducted, it will not be taken seriously.
The McCanns have a lot to answer for, and so do their backers and benefactors. I wonder do all those who are orchestrating things so that ‘a quiet word in the ear of a senior judge/procedutor’ will result in them going scot free realise the significance of what they are really doing? I mean REALLY doing. They are putting the lives of two negligent parents above that of a small defenseless little girl.

i dont know why they wont go back-
its a little odd how the top rankers are getting sacked-
its either because they are bad pjs or like said before they are doing away with them.
if they are the above you can understand how anybody wouldnt want to go back

Me too.
If you scroll down to the picture of the ‘joggers’ it might cheer you up a bit - at least it shows Gerry’s not as fit as he’d like to be. (Not fit to be a parent either!)

22 Amaral was just voicing what many of us think…
October 3rd, 2007 at 9:45 am
Goncalo Amaral’s untimely rant and subsequent ‘career move’ couldn’t have come at a better time for the McCanns or at a worse time for Madeleine. Amaral lacks the detachment and profesional demeanour of the McCanns, but he has passion, commitment and guts, which the McCanns should have no reason to fear if they are innocent.

just having a trail trough past news and found this interesting in hind-sight
From LUCY HAGAN
in Praia da Luz
June 15, 2007
THE parents of missing Madeleine McCann reacted angrily yesterday after an anonymous tip from a psychic sparked a hunt for their girl’s body.
A Dutch newspaper received the unsigned letter claiming Maddie, four, was buried in a shallow grave ten miles from where she was snatched in Praia da Luz, Portugal.
More than 30 different media organisations are now in the area along with a British “crime enthusiast” accompanied by a sniffer dog.
But Kate and Gerry have branded the hunt “cruel and insensitive”.
Gerry said: “We were very upset that the credibility of this letter had not been examined. We feel this was irresponsible journalism.”
A family source said: “As well as the obvious distress caused by the suggestion she is not alive, this is a real setback to their campaign to help find her. Kate and Gerry believe Maddie is still alive.”
Police officers have visited the area but there is no suggestion there will be a formal search.

maybe the investigating police on both sides should be shaken up.
Why not allocate a new Portugese team and a new Leicestershire team. All new, start from scratch with fresh eyes as they do with Cold Cases.
Just a thought……….
Firestar, I am vegetarian but I didn’t know about rizlas. then again I gave up smoking real cigs four years and I’ve never really been into rizlas in either format! Marmite is and Bovril wasn’t / was / wasn’t again. So confusing….. Tesco do good veggie Worcestor Sauce though.

10. At first, we thought Portuguese police was good because they helped for the Temse/Madeira network (340 victims) in 95. Nothing seemed to be worse than the Belgian police at the time, but now Portugal police seem to beat them.
All hoped that Julie and Melissa, the Dutroux victims, had not died in vain but helped to open the world’s eyes on corruption and child exploitation networks. It made things worse, with loads of nonsense to make believe criminal conspiracy does not exist in the area of child exploitation.
ALL the officers who, according to the official version, had chronicle “dysfunctions” in the Dutroux inquiry where promoted in higher positions. Those who tried to do a good job were sacked or had so many problems they don’t dare to talk.
Let us hope England won’t allow that for Madeleine.

16 ben - i don’t hate them - i don’t know them, however the whole situation has been ‘odd’ from the start. All of the issues have been covered here many times but two still stand out for me…
Why do they not go back to Portugal & sit down with the PJ and answer all the questions, if they want to help further the investigation, and secondly why have no videos been released of Maddie? In EVERY other news story involving a child at least one video clip is released - are they trying to hide something???

I am afraid I will have to decline your invitation - if anyone were attempted to do something like that you watch how the police and the UK justice system rush to see ‘justice’ done.
October 3rd, 2007 at 9:39 am
i dont really think about them too much,
i think to much ‘love to hate’ going against them instaed of looking at the missing child-
i dont hate them neither do i love them
October 3rd, 2007 at 9:38 am
Each day I’m getting more frustrated - I believe that at some point maddies body will be found, and I thought that when this happens justice would be done, now however Team McC are ‘covering’ the drug issue and have laid the groundwork that the abductor drugged Maddie.
Even when they find her it will be hard to tie the McC’s to her death other than by circumstantial evidence. Someone who knows must surely see how wrong this situation is and come forward with the truth…or I may loose may faith in human nature….
October 3rd, 2007 at 9:33 am
Even if there are no charges brought, they’ll eventually burn in hell anyway if they did it. I still want to stick one on Gerry’s smug face, anyone want to join me?

I am sure it will be Clarence the cross-eyed lion and the pride of advisers. It almost certainly won’t be the PJ.
October 3rd, 2007 at 9:30 am
Lets not let her death/disappearance be in vein. We should all as a society speak out and revolt against this injustice to children, and the present way the media and high rankers ( silent w) have tried to brush it under the carpet.
October 3rd, 2007 at 9:28 am
Chomical wats-his-name said yesterday that the teflon 2 are willing to do anything in order to help find Madeleien (ie clear their names) including returning to Portugal and answer more questions - IF NECESSARY.
Who decides when it’s necessary?
October 3rd, 2007 at 9:25 am
4 that was the whole point of Team McCann
October 3rd, 2007 at 9:22 am
someone said last night, the inquiry leaders are being abducted at an alarming rate.
