Portia - what exactly is it that we are disagreeing about? The age of my children is not something I wish to discuss in a public forum.
One of the ‘features’ of this case is that what the McCann’s did in leaving the children alone night after night is NOT as unusual as you and I might like to believe. I don’t agree with or condone this sort of parenting. I can’t prove that this sort of baby sitting service is commonplace, but did appear to be something that was openly discussed in various media articles relating to the background to the case. i.e. Mediterranean families dine together, whatever the time of day, other European families dine without children.

If MM is found and returned to her family, should be taken into care by the Social Services? If so, should the twins also be taken into care, and shouldy they ultimately be adopted out?
I ask b/c I am discussing this point with people at work, and they are all shocked that I have even posed the question

The suggestion that the McCanns might have wished to avoid an autopsy derives from the fact that the McCanns appear to be manipulating evidence, rather than fully coorperating with the police with the sole aim of finding their daughter, alive or dead.
As I said, this is not the only hypothesis to explain their rather strange behaviour.
Some will argue that it derives from the emotional confusion of distraught parents.
I agree that the jump from ’strange behaviour’ to ‘wish to avoid an autopsy’ is quite a big one to make in one ‘go’, for many people.
And one should probably add another possible hypothesis ‘at this level’: a wish to misrepresent the true charater of an abduction or removal of their daughter, while still alive.
Reports of circumstantial evidence, and the McCanns’ recorded or reported response to it, although each individual piece of evidence is in itself inconclusive and often unreliably reported, do add up, for a lot of people, to make unassisted or assisted abduction, rather than removal of a dead body, extremely implausible. But I don’t think they can be completely ruled out on the basis of what is at this point in the public domain.
That leaves the hypothesis that someone wished to remove the body of a dead Madeleine on or perhaps even before (very unlikely, but not impossible) 3 May.
If death could be presented as, say, accidental lethal trauma, or even accidental ingestion of pills left in the apartment, there would be no reason to ‘disappear’ the body. Quite the reverse.
Only a death resulting from actions that would threaten careers, child custody, and liberty would provide a reason for removing the body and preventing an autopsy that would probably establish such a compromising cause of death.
Personally, as I have explained on earlier threads, I think from what I’ve seen and read that an adverse reaction to a sedative other than Calpol, probably followed by unsuccessful emergency medical intervention, then disposal of he body by at least one of the parents, helped by O’Brien at least, is the most likely scenario.
I think it’s helpful to attempt to quantify these (subjective) probablities to some extent, so I’d say that at this point, I’d attach a probablity of something like 75% to that scenario.

But I was referring to the parents who comment on pro-McCann sites with admission that they also have neglected their children. Momentary neglect of 5 year olds is not the same thing as intentional and systematic neglect of 2 and 3 year olds.

Jet Set Gerry and Kate knew she would not turn up alive otherwise why go globe trotting. If it was my kids, I would want to be there for them, not waiting for clearance for my private jet to take off.
The McCanns know exactly what they are doing, they are calmest parents in the entire world. The Jones family in Liverpool are in bits over the murder of their son, totally distraught. Kate and Jerry blog about nice family afternoons around the pool.
They seem to have forgotton their had kids, they spent more time leaving them in a creche and popping down the Tapas bar and even the Tapas staff allegedly said that did not realise that any of them had kids.
Gerry and Kate has set the ground for a body being found with traces of drugs. The latest announcement about her being drugged by an abductor is to lay doubt in the minds of Mr and Mrs Born Again Christian that they never administered a lethal dose of sedatives.
Calling Sky News before the police !!! Why ring a UK news channel when the kid has been missing for 30 minutes in Portugal.
I watched a recap on Sky News 2 nights ago and their crime reporter in Portugal made a sarcastic comment about them. In a recap of 150 days he said “The bizarre thing is why would abductors take the 4 year old girl when two smaller children with very little linguistic abilities would be easier to snatch and have a new life without recollection of an old life or ask questions”

Kate, well, she’s ill advised to keep shut about the whole sordid event. She knows something for sure. All roads point to her.

No reason has been given for the demotion of Amaral. It followed his so-called “outburst” about the McCanns interference and the credence given to the email to Prince Charles, but that hasn’t been said why this happened.
Carlos Anjos said pretty much the same thing and nothing happened to him.
I applaud Amaral’s words. They needed to be said.
