Madeleine McCann: Amaral Policing, Secrets Out And EastEnders
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE: PORTUGUESE POLICE CHIEF IS SACKED AFTER AMAZING OUTBURST.”
Page 9: “Madeleine detective kicked off case after blasting British police” – Chief inspector Goncalo Amaral says: “The British police have only been working on what the McCann couple want them to and what suits them.”
Says Amaral: “The Ocean Club is in Praia da Luz, not in London…It won’t be an email, and an anonymous one at that, which will distract our line of investigation.”
Mr Amaral is making reference to the email sent to the official website of the Prince of Wales last week claming a vengeful nanny had abducted Madeleine.
Pages 30 and 31: “HAIR-RAISING TRUTH ABOUT THE PSYCHIC BARBER – During the day Gordon Smith cuts hair, at night he claims he communes with the spirits. So does he really think he can help the McCanns find Madeleine?”
THE WORLD’S GREATEST NEWSPAPER confirms that former EastEnders actress Michelle Collins is a “BELIEVER”.
DAILY MAIL page 7: “Off the case. Madeleine police chief demoted after amazing rant against McCanns and British detectives”
Say Amaral: “They [the English] have been investigating tip-offs and information created and worked upon by the McCanns”
DAILY STAR front page: “MADDIE: CHIEF COP SACKED.”
Page 10: “INSPECTOR CLUELESS GETS THE BOOT”
Page 11: “If Maddie IS dead she will tell me where he body is” – Says Gordon Smith
DAILY MIRROR front page: “Maddy copper is axed”
Page 7: “OFF THE CASE – Boozy cop is demoted after furious outburst against the McCanns”
THE SUN page 7: “MADDIE COP FIRED FOR McCANNS RANT – storm as bungler says family duped Brit police”
Comments Clarence Mitchell: “I can confirm that Kate and Gerry are aware of this development but we cannot comment”
THE GUARDIAN page 7: “Detective leading hunt for Madeleine sacked after blast at UK police” – Mr Amaral is 47. He has been demoted. He is 48 in the Sun. Such are the facts
Carols Pinto de Abreu, the McCanns’ Portuguese lawyer, says: “The McCanns cannot confess to something they did not do and cannot and should not lie to please the police”
THE INDEPENDENT page 8: “Detective leading Madeleine hunt dropped from case after outburst” – Amaral is being investigated over an alleged attack on the mother of a different missing girl. Read about that here
THE TIMES front page: “Detective in charge of McCann case sacked”
Page 9: “Madeleine detective sacked after outburst”
Alipio Ribeiro, Amaral’s boss, says: “The police should be discreet and keep quiet, but there is always someone who talks” – So much for those secrecy laws
DAILY TELEGRAPH page 15: “Madeleine inquiry chief sacked after attack on British police”
A “family friend” of the McCanns says: “What he [Mr Amaral] is saying is just plain wrong. Leicestershire Police are not doing anything on Kate and Gerry’s behalf. They are simply there for liaison. There is certainly no strategy to distract form the Portuguese investigation”
What investigation?

‘life beginning to settle down for the McCanns in Rotheley’. It is just as though Madeleine never really existed.
If I had two other children to consider and Social Services breathing down my neck, i would say something like that too.
Would you say your life is in turmoil and you can’t get a grip on things with SS beady little eyes focused on you?
I agree with a lot of people, they should stop saying anything other than they hope she is alive and will never give up looking.

So why are all these heavy-hitters protecting the McCanns? What is the motivation? Someone yesterday suggested that maybe there is something much bigger being concealed, something that would benefit from the intervention of the British Govementment and church. I hope that there are some real investigative journalists out there who have the drive to keep delving into this case. I bet Nixon thought Watergate would never come out in the open and bite him in the b*lls.

They’ve just been talking to the parents of several children who have disappeared over the years on the Spanish radio. They showed real grief. The mother of a child who disappeared over a year ago could barely get a word out. The mother of Yeremi Vargas said she had had no rest since he disappeared. And so it went on.
I don’t think any of them could have said that their lives were “settling down”, as the Mail says that Gerry has said. I know people have different reactions but the McCanns can hardly still be in a state of shock, which is the only thing that, to my mind, would provide a logical explanation for their lack of emotion. And, honestly, when you hear the parents of other missing children, the McCanns seem to be different. If it were only one of them, you might think it was simply a question of one person being unusual. But it is both.

just reminding everyone the bollox that made us turn on them in the first place

Reading these postings I may have missed reference to the McCann’s work comitments. There are plenty of references to their qualifications but are they working, on leave of absence or on sick leave?

It is very sad - I am not a petrol head (don’t even drive0 but there is something about a Hummer lol Had the shock of my life when I discovered that my son’s former headmistress (twin set and pearls type) drove around in a WRC Subaru Impreza. Her credibility with the teenage lads was sky high lol

I have to agree - very bad judgement.

WARNING MAY MAKE NORMAL PEOPLE SICK
McCanns: Too unsettling to fly twins to Rome
29/05/2007 - 21:01:08
Kate and Gerry McCann wanted to bring twins Sean and Amelie with them to Rome tonight but said they feared it would be too unsettling for the two year olds.
The couple flew to Rome today to prepare for a meeting with Pope Benedict XV1.
It is the first time they have left the twins overnight, but felt it was so important to remain focused on Madeleine.
Mrs McCann said: “Leaving them is really hard, I have never left them before.
“From a selfish point of view we would have liked to have had them here as a comfort.
“But I am sure it is not the best thing for them.”
Mrs McCann said they were being looked after by Gerry’s sister Trish Cameron and her husband. The pair are Madeleine’s godparents and the twins know them well.
She said: “Bringing them all this way, on a journey to another strange place that they do not know, is not really fair.
“This trip is about Madeleine at the end of the day.”
Mr McCann said they had been very exercised about whether or not they should bring the twins but felt in was in their best interests to stay in Portugal.
The Vatican had offered to cater for the twins if the McCanns had wanted them to do so.
But the tormented parents of Madeleine said they hoped to be back in the Algarve tomorrow night in time to tuck the twins up in their beds and say goodnight.

Do you know if the previous pedophile network involving the orphanage was fully cleaned up or do you think the people involved were so powerful it is still functioning?
October 3rd, 2007 at 10:12 am
48 does the portuguese application of human rights also excuse the mother in the case you mentioned not reporting her daughter missing for 2 days???

Several things bother me about the McCanns:-
1. How could any parent particularly 2 individuals who are deemed to be “intelligent” by virtue of their academic achievements in qualifying as doctors leave 3 small children (under 4) together for the purpose of going off with friends for a meal? I have and would never leave my children for fear of them waking up and finding me not there, wandering around a potentially hazardous apartment with swimming pool in close proximity. How awful for such young children to be left so vulnerable on this basis without even needing to consider more sinister consequences of such utter neglect by the McCanns.
2. When challenged the McCanns have dismissed this behaviour and underplayed it, however it was grossly negligent and selfish.
3. Other smaller things such as:- Kate McCann always managed to adorn herself with earrings and necklaces when in public and her hair was often well groomed. If my child had gone missing I could not even contemplate wasting time to “pretty myself” I would be unable to sit back and calmly do the bits for the cameras and press, I would be out on the streets speaking to people and finding out for myself if anybody had seen anything.
4. When Kate McCann met the pope, watch her body language, it was riddled with discomfort and she could not look at him directly.
5. Gerry McCann’s self-publicising website blog. Again, he has repeatedly made reference to his job and his career and it’s importance to him.
Watch the McCann’s body language, listen to the essence of what they say, how quickly the “spin” doctors of team McCann have gone into damage limitation mode and attempted to transfer the issues away from the couple.
Consider whether if a child was accidentally killed in circumstances which objectively may be negligent, is the moral culpabilility for doctors as people enlisted with “saving” lives much higher than for the rest of us? Are there circumstances when some people would choose to re-invent what happened in an attempt to remove and transfer the blame to A.N.Other as a damage limitation exercise, which in doing so may save their careers, absolve them on any blame and ostensibly give them shedfuls of public sympathy? If you think not, then ask yourself how the same people could also leave 3 very small children alone in an unlocked apartment in a different country in pursuit of selfish social pleasure seeking?

Not me. I hope the Portuguese put some real talent on the case, for the sake of their own reputations as much as getting to the bottom of things.

Should one consider that a police officer breaking the laws of his own country (secrecy of the inquiry) or smothering the fact a woman was deprived of her fundamental right to the defense and beaten by brutes is corrupted, Amaral is among the severe cases.
Why these police officers cannot answer elementary questions in this case, such as why they have to focus driving all the attention in saying Kate McCann is suspect and not consider an inquiry on Vreny von Aesch?
No reason to fear Amaral? Why don’t you go and have a look on Leonor Cipriano’s face knees after the interrogation and you will understand the Portuguese application of human rights.

sorry shepherds bush london
but on american police shows sky 3 has an excellent one Cold case
In the last 2 days they have covered
wife swapping
and a PND mother who killed and covered up her baby’s death
I was ridiculed by sss for comparing tv programmes to this case, but many are based on research in psycological real life cases.
They do lots of background research and work with victims to highlight social situations and bring them into focus.
Fiction mirrors reallity and visa versa

36 Swannie. How can Gerry say this! What type of people are these? On one hand the McCanns still claim they believe Madeleine is alive, on the other he says ‘life beginning to settle down for the McCanns in Rotheley’. It is just as though Madeleine never really existed.
35 Brandonflours. I remember the TV coverage of this and being completely confused as to why the McCanns were so enraged about the suggestion that Madeleine could be found buried in that area. I thought - if my child was missing I would want to explore all avenues, even if it meant facing the awful fact that maybe she would be found dead. It was around this time that the famous ‘hurtful and unhelpful’ phrase was first used.
The area looked like rural scrub land, but you are right - bring back Lassie and let him off the leash to sniff away.
Anything constructive would be preferable to just quietly forgetting about her and ’settling down’ to normal life as before.
How come there are many people out there who seem to care more about what really happened to Madeleine than her parents? If innocent - do they not want to know what happened to their little girl?

I agree with you - well I would, wouldn’t I, since that is waht i have been advocating for two days at least. Everyone thinks Amaral’s outburst was what decided things but I think it was his closed minded arrogance in saying he wasn’t going to look into the email - which claimed a disgruntled maid had taken Madeleine.
The higher ups probably thought that in a case with so little progress, you should not be dismissing such possible leads without at least a bit of follow-up. Saying you knocked on her door months ago asked three questions and left isn’t good enough.
October 3rd, 2007 at 10:03 am
A few days ago, people on here were saying that Amaral shouldn’t be in charge of this investigation because he himself was being investigated for allegedly taking part in the beating up Leonor Cipriano. Now that he has been removed, everybody seems to want him back.
Nowt so queer as folks.
October 3rd, 2007 at 10:03 am
Oh Will. What is it with ‘boys’ and Hummers?? and Subaru Imprezas??
October 3rd, 2007 at 10:01 am
Does anyone remember General Gerry standing outside that portuguese police station after his questioning? Talk about body language giving yourself away. Shoulders back, nose in the air, chest puffed out ready for his medal to be pinned on. All that was missing was a bloodied union jack draped around his form and a picture of the queen in the background. And just exactly what were the reasons for holding such a noble pose? Where is the pride to be found in the criminal neglect of your children or the contradictory statements of friends?
Do not be disheartened seekers of truth for these actions will not go unpunished in this world or the next. I will never give up my beliefs at the whim of this nazi state, nor will my children.
Please understand that the fight against this cover up is a fight against the mass of the sick killer elite. It was never going to be an easy struggle so if you haven’t got the iron to do it prepare to become part of the problem.

Whatever Amaral did or didn’t do, I can’t understand how the PJ didn’t have the foresight to see that having an Arguido in charge of ANY investigation wasn’t a good idea, let alone a case that bears a similarity to his only other case for which he was made an arguido in the first place.
October 3rd, 2007 at 9:59 am
37 - good point will!!!
October 3rd, 2007 at 9:59 am
I’m actually looking forward to this whole thing exploding in the face of the McLiars when the PJ find the body and unleash their case with a vengenace never before seen. Branson et al. will be discredited and be laughing stocks for ever. Gerry will forever be worrying about that conspicuous looking bar of soap in the shower block while Kate won’t last 5 minutes inside as Mothers who have killed their own are justifiable targets to the other inmates. Someone’s going to crack that’s for sure and then the whole house of cards will come tumbling down.
“But Kate and Gerry have branded the hunt “cruel and insensitive”.”
Would this be as cruel and insensitive as apparently sedating your f**king kids and going out on the lash while one of them may have laid in her bed dying?
This lot wouldn’t look out of place pulling the gold teeth out of holocaust victims.
