Madeleine McCann: Amaral Policing, Secrets Out And EastEnders
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE: PORTUGUESE POLICE CHIEF IS SACKED AFTER AMAZING OUTBURST.”
Page 9: “Madeleine detective kicked off case after blasting British police” – Chief inspector Goncalo Amaral says: “The British police have only been working on what the McCann couple want them to and what suits them.”
Says Amaral: “The Ocean Club is in Praia da Luz, not in London…It won’t be an email, and an anonymous one at that, which will distract our line of investigation.”
Mr Amaral is making reference to the email sent to the official website of the Prince of Wales last week claming a vengeful nanny had abducted Madeleine.
Pages 30 and 31: “HAIR-RAISING TRUTH ABOUT THE PSYCHIC BARBER – During the day Gordon Smith cuts hair, at night he claims he communes with the spirits. So does he really think he can help the McCanns find Madeleine?”
THE WORLD’S GREATEST NEWSPAPER confirms that former EastEnders actress Michelle Collins is a “BELIEVER”.
DAILY MAIL page 7: “Off the case. Madeleine police chief demoted after amazing rant against McCanns and British detectives”
Say Amaral: “They [the English] have been investigating tip-offs and information created and worked upon by the McCanns”
DAILY STAR front page: “MADDIE: CHIEF COP SACKED.”
Page 10: “INSPECTOR CLUELESS GETS THE BOOT”
Page 11: “If Maddie IS dead she will tell me where he body is” – Says Gordon Smith
DAILY MIRROR front page: “Maddy copper is axed”
Page 7: “OFF THE CASE – Boozy cop is demoted after furious outburst against the McCanns”
THE SUN page 7: “MADDIE COP FIRED FOR McCANNS RANT – storm as bungler says family duped Brit police”
Comments Clarence Mitchell: “I can confirm that Kate and Gerry are aware of this development but we cannot comment”
THE GUARDIAN page 7: “Detective leading hunt for Madeleine sacked after blast at UK police” – Mr Amaral is 47. He has been demoted. He is 48 in the Sun. Such are the facts
Carols Pinto de Abreu, the McCanns’ Portuguese lawyer, says: “The McCanns cannot confess to something they did not do and cannot and should not lie to please the police”
THE INDEPENDENT page 8: “Detective leading Madeleine hunt dropped from case after outburst” – Amaral is being investigated over an alleged attack on the mother of a different missing girl. Read about that here
THE TIMES front page: “Detective in charge of McCann case sacked”
Page 9: “Madeleine detective sacked after outburst”
Alipio Ribeiro, Amaral’s boss, says: “The police should be discreet and keep quiet, but there is always someone who talks” – So much for those secrecy laws
DAILY TELEGRAPH page 15: “Madeleine inquiry chief sacked after attack on British police”
A “family friend” of the McCanns says: “What he [Mr Amaral] is saying is just plain wrong. Leicestershire Police are not doing anything on Kate and Gerry’s behalf. They are simply there for liaison. There is certainly no strategy to distract form the Portuguese investigation”
What investigation?

Wow, Stevo, that gives me an idea. Maybe this is ALL a smokescreen- maybe Madeleine isn’t even really missing- maybe this is just Kate’s big bid to get into the movies. Madeleine will turn up here in a bit, and Kate will get an Oscar for Best Actress. This could definitely explain this wardrobe evidence.

I can’t find that really good picture of the steps. I mean, I have it saved on my PC but can’t find the link to it.
Here’s a good photo of the complex though:

652. Manon,
The article where India talks about going shopping, finding great bargains and drinking cappuccino?

And here’s why Cuddle Cat needed washing:

If you google the words ‘madeleine kate gerry mccann praia’ and click on images instead of webpages, you’ll get thousands of thumbnails to all the pictures ever seen on this case.
Just look at the sheer number of outfits that Kate is wearing. Her wardrobe is phenomenal. It’s like she has an outfit for every day for 3 months. Unbelievable and even the most fashion conscious women in this forum must agree her wardrobe is pretty formidable.

Re pigs.
1 Mrs McKay was allegedly fed to pigs by the Hussain brothers, who were found guilty of her murder in the 60s. No body or body parts ever found.
2 Whilst I was in the police a colleague of mine found a suspected sudden death by pigs actually wasnt, as the blood trickle on the forehead went the wrong way. The intention had been for the body to have been too badly eaten for forensic proof of the actual murder. Conviction followed.

681. True Batman I hadn’t thought of that!

679. She could have shopped for her clothing on-line or at boutiques whilst in Portugal. Or you mean why would she go shopping? She may not have it could have been someone from the PR team or PR directing a “friend of the family” to be her personal shopper if she was too distraught to shop herself.
I liked what a posted wrote yesterday how they believed their PR was asking them to keep the Praia de Luz “beach bum look” and not to wear anything too dressy.

STEVO, have you seen that video, the “last video of Madeleine alive” filmed by one of the others on holiday? Gerry looks very foul-tempered, refuses to smile, and the person behind the camera even comments on it.
October 3rd, 2007 at 6:36 pm
679 Stevo. This is a very good point because as we know she was wearing some of the same clothes to work - when she had CuddleCat meeting the cadavars!

674. Jolie,
Agreed.
Over the past month I have noticed very obvious edits to on-line news articles. Shouldn’t there be a note that the article has been ‘edited’ or ‘updated’ since it’s original publishing?
Also, what to make of all these articles being edited or flat out disappearing? IS the media trying to sincerely right their wrongs or is something else going on? Even if they are trying to correct erroneous information then they should be offering a follow up story like: We reported a-b-c and have confirmed that only b is true blah…blah…blah. The article shouldn’t be deleted. They should simply have a retraction statement for the original report.

I asked this a few days ago and didn’t get much response:
Where did Kate do the shopping for the enormous amount of clothes she wore in the months in Praia? She seems to have more clothes than one would even wear normally in that time at home.
I know women like to have lots of clothes but low-cost airlines don’t have big baggage allowances - certainly not big enough to accommodate Kate’s wardrobe.

Glad we cleared that up. As far as I am concerned that is the matter closed and I think you shouldn’t have any further allegations of cold bloodied murder made against you again.
October 3rd, 2007 at 6:31 pm
Ok, someone show me a picture of Gerry smiling please.
Here’s the famous last photo:

Has anyone else ever seen Gerry smile? I believe there’s one newspaper front cover with a photo of Kate with a smile.
Just curious before the idiots shoot me down in flames wondering why I’m asking it.

Maybe the Portugese press will take our hint and print some evidence this week regarding DNA found in O’Brien’s hire car! (Come on, you can come up with SOMETHING you guys… Go for it! Confuse them even more!)

Thanks for admonishing us Susan James. You should probably leave quickly or you’ll miss evening’s mass.

I think the critical point, other than was the book ‘No Stone Unturned’ actually found in the McCanns’ apartment, is the time frame it was discovered. It would be less suspicious to find it after Madeleine had been missing for some time or when the detectives started doing their investigative work and you might be curious to what they were up to, to learn more and make sense of it. However, if they actually had it on hand the night Madeleine went missing…well, that’s a whole different story. No believable explanation for that, other than those that point to guilt, given the circumstances.
I also verified that two articles that give the quote about the choice of holiday reading material are no longer available and have been deleted.

Well, but why? Why sit around trying to prove someone is guilty of murder with false evidence? Because it’s more fun than, say, a crossword puzzle?

Bit of a waste of time asking me that question… I didn’t kill anyone!! VBG

My post 668 refers to answering your question and is not calling you arrogant before anyone thinks otherwise.

662 - Susan James. Then please join in and raise the tone. Maybe you would like to start off with your own theory, backed up by reasons why you propose it.

656. Of course this thought has crossed by mind many times especially since he was allegedly missing most of the evening from the dinner party and from the quiz show. I also felt it MAYBE a little more than curious how O’Brien stayed on with the McCanns when the rest of the Tapas junta (I believe this included his own partner, Jane Tanner) returned to UK. He also got upset with a SOl journo who after inquiring into general information about the evening of May 3rd began asking him his actions and whereabouts that evening. Oh and then there’s the ridiculous egg-headed man carrying the child which Jane Tanner recalled weeks later. Perhaps she had a good reason for wanting to throw the cops off? Now finding out he had his own car on that date - if true - I hope PJ has checked it out for DNA but se just have not heard about it (unlikely right?).

Arrogance!!!! This one character trait brings down many intelligent law breakers. Maybe after the circus they built around themselves they believed it would be ludicrous, nonsensical and ridiculous to consider them suspect at that stage. Guess that could explain the pants down with the hire car.
Pride comes before a fall and arrogance ensures a very big splat.

Krissie - we do not know what is true - we are just trying to piece together the leaked evidence.

I don’t think an accidental fall down some steps is the answer either. But…the answer could be how Kate and/or Gerry dealt with that afterwards. Like, they may have put her to bed, perhaps Madeleine was subconscious, Gerry tells O’Brien what happened, O’Brien says “I’ve got some medicine for that”, and then what was a simple situation turns into a nightmare with 3 or more doctors dabbling with medicine and a child ends up dead.

Harry Seymour & others:
“There’s some odd psychological event happening on this blog ..”
…Not nearly as strange as the psychological and other events in Fleet Street and elsewhere, mate.
The core story itself is fascinating like a thriller or a game of Cluedo (and yes, of course it’s intrusion into a family tragedy, but hell, who played out the tragedy on the world stage?), but the ’story of the story’ is far, far more significant - and utterly fascinating as cultural pathology.
I still haven’t read any good explanation of why the story took off in the British media in such an unprecedented way, and was handled in the bizarre one-sided way it was (and is).
There’s the primal fear of losing a child in a foreign environment, mass hysteria, standard tabloid xenophobia, there’s new media technology, there’s the post-Diana heritage, weird central characters pushing things into the public domain for all they’re (or he’s) worth…
But why the broadsheets and BBC too, with News at 10 anchored from PdL for over a week (first 10 mins: ‘I can now tell you that there’s no news to report tonight, now we’ll discuss the signficance of that for 9 minutes’)?
Answers on an e-card, please.

Instead of posing questions predicated on the assumption that the various rumours, such as the police hand book story, are true, why not go the whole hog and asked the non-anti-McCanns, Team McCanns etc a more fundamental, and even more fundamentally loaded, question,
- eg “why did you kill your poor defenseless beautiful daughter in cold blood you monsters?”, just asking like.
October 3rd, 2007 at 6:22 pm
(658) Ah so they didn’t buy it until after the child died and they were trying to figure out what to do with her body.
Makes perfect sense now.

Tsk Tsk 638. What the McCanns did was not evil and many others on vacation do the exact same thing with sleeping children on a holiday. No one expects the boogeyman to be lurking about. Making trash fun and a slanderous game out of this tragic affair comes pretty darn close to evil in my way of thinking. Ruining someone’s reputation and piling coals on their head with trash talk is really bad form -not sophistical, not intellectual, not clever, and not witty - it is just plain lowclass and tacky.
