Madeleine McCann: Amaral Policing, Secrets Out And EastEnders
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE: PORTUGUESE POLICE CHIEF IS SACKED AFTER AMAZING OUTBURST.”
Page 9: “Madeleine detective kicked off case after blasting British police” – Chief inspector Goncalo Amaral says: “The British police have only been working on what the McCann couple want them to and what suits them.”
Says Amaral: “The Ocean Club is in Praia da Luz, not in London…It won’t be an email, and an anonymous one at that, which will distract our line of investigation.”
Mr Amaral is making reference to the email sent to the official website of the Prince of Wales last week claming a vengeful nanny had abducted Madeleine.
Pages 30 and 31: “HAIR-RAISING TRUTH ABOUT THE PSYCHIC BARBER – During the day Gordon Smith cuts hair, at night he claims he communes with the spirits. So does he really think he can help the McCanns find Madeleine?”
THE WORLD’S GREATEST NEWSPAPER confirms that former EastEnders actress Michelle Collins is a “BELIEVER”.
DAILY MAIL page 7: “Off the case. Madeleine police chief demoted after amazing rant against McCanns and British detectives”
Say Amaral: “They [the English] have been investigating tip-offs and information created and worked upon by the McCanns”
DAILY STAR front page: “MADDIE: CHIEF COP SACKED.”
Page 10: “INSPECTOR CLUELESS GETS THE BOOT”
Page 11: “If Maddie IS dead she will tell me where he body is” – Says Gordon Smith
DAILY MIRROR front page: “Maddy copper is axed”
Page 7: “OFF THE CASE – Boozy cop is demoted after furious outburst against the McCanns”
THE SUN page 7: “MADDIE COP FIRED FOR McCANNS RANT – storm as bungler says family duped Brit police”
Comments Clarence Mitchell: “I can confirm that Kate and Gerry are aware of this development but we cannot comment”
THE GUARDIAN page 7: “Detective leading hunt for Madeleine sacked after blast at UK police” – Mr Amaral is 47. He has been demoted. He is 48 in the Sun. Such are the facts
Carols Pinto de Abreu, the McCanns’ Portuguese lawyer, says: “The McCanns cannot confess to something they did not do and cannot and should not lie to please the police”
THE INDEPENDENT page 8: “Detective leading Madeleine hunt dropped from case after outburst” – Amaral is being investigated over an alleged attack on the mother of a different missing girl. Read about that here
THE TIMES front page: “Detective in charge of McCann case sacked”
Page 9: “Madeleine detective sacked after outburst”
Alipio Ribeiro, Amaral’s boss, says: “The police should be discreet and keep quiet, but there is always someone who talks” – So much for those secrecy laws
DAILY TELEGRAPH page 15: “Madeleine inquiry chief sacked after attack on British police”
A “family friend” of the McCanns says: “What he [Mr Amaral] is saying is just plain wrong. Leicestershire Police are not doing anything on Kate and Gerry’s behalf. They are simply there for liaison. There is certainly no strategy to distract form the Portuguese investigation”
What investigation?

Chloe from Spain,
That may be her in the photo but she looks very different than other photos I’ve seen of her. Sorry for the confusion.

I don’t see how you can be so certain that they are responsible for the girl’s death/disappearance (other than neglect). With all the contradictions in the press and apparent slip-ups and story constructions that appear to be coming out of both camps, I’m still in doubt as to the truth.

Thank you. You are asking some crucial questions which do need to be answered.
I do not know if Amaral is guilty of covering up the torture by his officers of Cipriano who is now serving a jail sentence for the murder of her daughter who is, according to her, still missing. Amaral is, like the McCanns, only a suspect, I understand. (According to Martin Brunt, he’s actually an arguido, as they are??) We must presume him innocent until and unless charged and convicted.
However, it was certainly very unwise of the police to allow him a leading role in the Madeleine investigation. One arguido investigating another?! I do hope all these appalling leaks, which break what were the strict secrecy laws. did in fact start with him. (Of course, I don’t know.) If so, maybe we’ll see an end of them now.
Jaqueline is right about the necessity for a proper, professsional investigation and I think Moderation’s idea of a fresh start with completely fresh teams from England and Portugal is excellent.

787. I forgot to mention Jacqueline the McCanns claim they themselves have had their own pi’s working on this case since mid-May. So if PJ isn’t doing what you say they are not doing than neither is the group hired by the McCanns to find Madeleine.

787. Jacqueline,
How do we, or do you know PJ has not interveiwed so and so; has not taken the leads you mention seriously; has not been doing what you claim they are not doing?

indeed, i think the mccanns have lapped up the attention, good and bad.
there is no such thing as bad advertising.
my god, i hope they are convicted and have to serve time.
October 3rd, 2007 at 8:38 pm
May I just point out that we don’t actually know what leads the PJ -or their counterparts in other countries- have followed up. Do we know that the Von Aesch widow hasn’t been interviewed. I think she probably has. I believe that the Spanish police have interviewed her on a number of occasions and one of them may well have been in relation to Madeleine.

October 3rd, 2007 at 8:35 pm
so the pj did offer kate mcculprit a deal for a confession, or was that just the pj twisting things?
the mccanns did invit the social services over to their place, instead of it being a routine inspection?
the mccanns asked to be arguidos?

This is spooky!!!!
Has anyone noticed that Clarence the cross eyed lion almost rhymes with Clarence the boss eyed liar (who does not in any shape or form exist and is purely a product of my over active imagination)?
Very spooky though

‘How do you explain the bizarre amount of media coverage and financial and political support this case is receiving and the definite slant in favor of the McCanns in the British press? Do you think there is something more here that is being protected than just the investigation into the disappearance of a child?’
–
1) The bizarre amount of media coverage is surely due to the amount of interest-you are here discussing it. What’s that old saying - paraphrasing, it’s something like -you get the journalism you deserve
2) I have seen a lot of negative coverage of the McCanns, so I can’t say it’s biased towards them. I would say that the media are biased towards the story, because there is so much interest in the story. A bit cause and effect
3) Before you jump on me, the McCanns are certainly makers of their own lot in their ‘courting’ the media. Perhaps in hindsight they might have changed their approach, but, perhaps not.
4) Financial support would be due to individual acts of kindness.
What more could be ‘protected’. Some people do believe in innocence until proven guilty. It’s a basic principle, and should be upheld, even if it turns out that the ‘accused’ (which they are not yet, as far as I understand) are in fact guilty

744 indeed
Thanks
“Can’t believe they would be hung, drawn and quartered by some people on the basis they they are ’shifty’ or some similar subjective opinion.”
It has happened before. People under great stress do not necessarily act or behave as they normally would. Basing opinions on the observation of behaviour made abnormal by stress, should therefore be more suspect than usual.

Were they neglectful..OF course..DO they show ODD behavior..OF course..I’m sure many of us do..What really kills me is the behavior PJ have demonstrated. They are the ones we should attack..Completely twisting everything..Even forensics admitted to the results being twisted. IT’s such a sad tragedy.

Some of the forensic blood test results from the apartment are reported not to belong to Madeleine, specifically the blood on the wall:
http://scotlandonsunday.scotsman.com/topics.cfm?tid=1590&id=1296452007
I still have to read more articles to determine if other blood traces in the apartment were identified.

About time!
That failing Portuguese twit has alas been given the heeve ho! Not early enough IMHO. But anyway he’s gone now and maybe some progress can start being made in the right direction.
I think its pretty evident that if this prick can’t have things go his own way then he results to bullying. Until now. I cant’t help think that the Portuguese may use the sacking of this berk as a smoke screen to allow a u-turn in the direction of their enquiries as they know the cadaver dogs and Amaral have been barking up the wrong tree.

Ahh.. of course! Sorry for my denseness (is that a word? )
October 3rd, 2007 at 8:31 pm
It is not a question of being “anti” or “pro” McCann, of judging if they have been careless or not, but of seeing a professional inquiry, what Portugal has not managed to do up to now.
A proper inquiry means checking every lead and THE big failure in this case, was to wipe out the network lead each time. “The secret service would have checked it and found nothing”, was said. Networks are no more the Hollywood cinema mafias, where there is a “Godfather” who knows everything, while others obey. There are made of hundreds of little gangs of four or five people, where each knows someone useful, from another gang. To have “checked” if Madeleine was or not abducted by a network, would have required from these “secret services” to have moles in every little criminal gang.
The “von Aesch” lead was very serious. So if there is any “source close to the Portuguese police” on this forum, please explain why the “secret services” has preferred to focus on saying the McCanns where the prime suspect without having interrogated the widow of the criminal. If not, why not ask Amaral?

780 - “Sophia Says: Jolie..What I believe is based on facts..I’m not going to sit here and speculate on something that was completely twisted by PJ..I had some doubts at first..But I just heard the news on CNN..AND quite honestly there is absolutely not ONE piece of evidence against the Mccanns.”
Sophie, there is undeniable evidence of serial child neglect. If McCann the children had been properly cared for, there would have been no abduction/accident/disappearance/whatever, and Madeline might still be around.

Good of you to make sweeping statements and to not stay around to speculate and debate.
