Madeleine McCann: Kate McCann Becomes Mum
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE – I CRY EVERY DAY SAYS KATE”
“For the first time she reveals her torment” – Kate gives the papers what they want: tears
Pages 6 and 7: “Madleine’s mum: I can’t stop crying” – Kate McCann is no longer Kate McCann; she is above all things Madeleine’s mum
“Obviously nothing can compare with the night Madeleine went missing,” says mum. And Gerry – dad’s – worst moment? “I think when we were made suspects in our own daughter’s disappearance – when the inference was that Madeleine was dead and that, somehow, we were involved…”
Yes…
“But, no it can’t get any worse than that first night…”
DAILY MAIL page 7: “Some days I just can’t stop the tears, says Maddie’s mother”
“Second police chief quits the case” – Tavares Almeida has followed his boss Goncarlo Amaral and left the business of Madeleine McCann to another lucky Portuguese cop
DAILY MIRROR front page: “KATE McCANN SPEAKS AS NEVER BEFORE..Every day felt like a week”
Page 5: “Being named suspects, the idea that we were involved, was terrible. But NOTHING can compare to the trauma of the first night our Madeleine went missing”
Kate is a “locum GP”. Gerry is a “heart specialist”. These are the facts. And they remain unaltered
The couple give an interview as they visit the offices of the Leicester Mercury newspaper, where they are presented with a cheque for £57,000 from the sales of the Madeleine wristbands
THE SUN front page: “KATE’S MADDIE ORDEAL – NOTHING’S AS BAD AS THAT NIGHT. Mum tells of torment”
Page 6: “I weep for Maddie…but we still have hope”
Says Kate McCann: “I’ve had days when if I wasn’t crying for Madeleine, I was crying from the messages people have sent us”
The McCanns “say their lowest point…was when Portuguese police declared them ‘arguidos’ – formal suspects over their daughter’s disappearance”. So not the night Madeleine disappeared, as the Express says?
Gerry is a “cardiologist”
DAILY STAR front page: “MADDIE – Kate: I cry for my daughter every day”
Page 8 and 9: “Finding Maddie had gone was far worse than being named suspect in killing”
THE TIMES page 14: “The twins are the only part of our lives that are normal”
Kate McCann says: “There is a semblance of normality returning. It’s more normal than it was three weeks ago, Amelie and Sean can see that. But really how can it be normal without Madeleine?”
THE INDEPENDENT page 8: “Second officer steps own from Madeleine inquiry” – Tavares Almeida. Bad Times, as Tavares were wont to say
THE GUARDIAN page 15: “Sacked Madeleine detective’s deputy seeks leave” – Senor Tavares. (Heaven Must be Missing An Angel)
DAILY TELEGRAPH front page: “KATE McCANN: THE DAILY TORMENT OF LIFE WITHOUT MADELEINE”
Page 3: “The McCanns have kept Madeleine’s room the same as it was. The twins are allowed in for a few minutes - “Otherwise, the door remains closed most of the time”
Detectives make notes.

337. If they were in a habit of leaving their children alone in an unlocked room every night of their stay at the Resort (and how long was that do we know? ), then it smacks of a careless attitude generally and probably carries over into over aspects of their children’s lives - and their lives too for that matter. This alone is enough evidence to give others suspicion….of more sinsiter things…….like the icing on the cake so to speak.

Gotta go now.
Think I’ll use a different name on Monday if I come back - I seem to have upset one or two NPD sufferers.
This forum would be great if people only posted when they had something to say. There are far too many people trying to be clever and trying to impress everyone else. Please bear in mind we are probably almost all adults and can see through that. There are many hundreds of posts on this forum every day, and it is grating to have to plough through the cut-and-paste jobs of so many with nothing to add.
Have a good weekend, all (including Susan and Richy)

Yes it was. Someone in this blog has a hairdresser friend in Praia.

It’s a pity you weren’t Madeleine on May 3. I think we’d all prefer that.
October 5th, 2007 at 5:26 pm
I thought someone came on this blog and had been at the resort and reported the haircut by personal experience - gossip I suppose. If I am wrong, please correct me, as I know you will.

100 ned: “I dont for one minute believe that either of them hurt her on purpose(if that is what happened) I think it was just unfortunate circumstances everything blown out of preportion. ‘heat of the moment’ and the poor child cought in the middle…”
REPLY: You could well be right. In which case the appropriate criminal charges would be something like:
1. assault occasioning actual bodily harm, grievous bodily harm, or manslaughter,
2. disposing of a body without informing the proper authorities,
3. interfering with the course of justice, and
4. perverting the course of justice.
PLUS, given that they were happy to leave three young children all under four alone after 7.30pm for an evening’s eating and drinking - night after night - child neglect, under Children and Young Persons Act 1933.

From what I understand, she only recently came forward this year with that claim about the bag over her head.
Why wouldn’t she say that BEFORE the lineups as a reason why it would be impossible for her to identify anyone responsible for the beatings.
Supposedly, she couldn’t even identify Mr. Amaral in a lineup, even though she allegedly stated that he was present during all the interrogations and beatings. Were they using full names during the interrogation and she overheard it?
Why wouldn’t detectives want to see her facial expression while interrogating her if they were searching for the truth? Why beat a woman to extract a confession, when the interrogations were not taped or recorded in any way (my understanding)–why not just lie and say she confessed? Wouldn’t that be easier?
Just food for thought. It’s hard to know what the truth is on this situation without knowing these people or having access to the files.
So many of the articles on the Cipriano case are written in Portuguese. I’m already spending too much time reading about the McCanns, that it would be a crime against my family to spend much time researching the Cipriano case online for clues to the truth–but I am tempted–it’s a very strange case.

To Tony Bennett you said:
“They made a serious error of judgement in leaving their children even though they thought it was a safe environment. As for ‘partying’ I thought (although it’s obviously only what I’ve read) that they were just eating tapas in a restaurant. Also the amount of drinking done that evening appears to vary wildly depending on which tabloid you read. I did notice that Kate McCann ruffled the hair of her little boy affectionately in the video made on the bus journey to the aeroplane and it looked like the natural, unaffected gesture of a caring mother.”
What is a “safe environment”? I wouldn’t say it was an error of judgement, I’d say it was the decision of a lunatic to leave those kids every night. It’s never been about the environment. It’s always been about leaving 3 toddlers alone in a strange place while the responsible adults were not present. The room could have been made of polystyrene - it was leaving them alone that is the focus of the neglect. Who cares whether they had 14 bottles of wine or no bottles of wine. Who cares how she treated the kids on the bus…she had an audience there. What matters is they deliberately left 3 kids alone and now they have 2 kids.
I was never aware that in law and justice, you get let off for making a mistake. I mean, since when did a policeman not issue a speeding ticket because you made a mistake in doing 50mph in a 30mph zone? Gerry and Kate may as well have left the kids a box of carving knives to play with.

What he said boils down to ‘we looked so we wont look again’. That is the same as not following up on the lead.
Does this sound like someone who is going to look into it? :
“Mr Amaral, who when approached around the coffee houses of Portimao in recent weeks has refused to comment on the case, told the Portuguese newspaper Diario de Noticias that all current and former employees at the resort had been investigated. Of the email lead, he said: “This situation has no credibility whatsoever for Portuguese police.”

I Just read the lastest from the Daily mail and the McCann Lawyers deny that the British police claimed that Madeleine is dead. Go to the daily mail and see for yourself, here is an excerpt,
“It quoted a legal source close to the Portuguese police saying that evidence gathered by officers in Britain led to Gerry and Kate McCann being named as suspects.
But lawyers acting for the McCanns today issued a strong denial, insisting British detectives had not made such a claim.
Leicestershire police also issued a statement stating that, since Madeleine’s disappearance, British police had offered ‘advice and support to the Portuguese investigation.”
It added: “A wide range of specialist capabilities have been available for them to use as and when requested. Leicestershire Constabulary have been careful not to offer an opinion as to what has happened to Madeleine as it is not party to all the evidence as it is not our investigation.”
You can see the full article at http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/dailymail/home.html?in_page_id=1766
It really is hard to know what to beleive. The earlier article today never actually named a source from the Leicestershire.

I’m sorry Tony but you are so full of bunk, it’s hard to even reply to you (not to mention it would take half the day … dont’ you have any WORK, man?)
But, as long as I’m here, please. Tell me. What proof do you have that Gerry got a haircut and went jogging in the 24 hours after Madeleine disappeared?

Cheers. Are you talking about the interview after 100 days? Can you remember what it was she said? Most of the interviews are on Sky News page. Click the videos link. That way you avoid trawling through the tribute vids on youtube.

I am going to be able to write a thesis on NPD simply by reading this forum.
Okay we know he has the illness maybe she does as well.
Can we get back to asking questions.
Like where is the priest?????????????????
Why are the other cops resigning (could it be that they have seen more of their colleagues over the last 5 months than their families and are protesting at Amarals dismissal.
I don’t know but I am a really lousy chess player, I sacrifice pieces left right and cent re just to take someone if I can. But I must say once there are fewer pieces on the board, the game does get much clearer.
Imagine if the British cops also resigned.
Imagine if they sent out a message to the politicians that they did not like the abuse they had to endure, they did not like the interference
and false media values.
Imagine if they said - you solve the case you poncy shits.
Imagine - Oh John, wish you were here.

For those interested in the allegations hanging over some of the PJ.
Some of the refutations of the allegations that the PJ beat a confession out of Cipriano point out the allegations are possibly baseless because she could not identify the individual officers who beat her when they were put in a lineup. This might explain why she could not identify them:
“The woman, Leonor Cipriano, 36, claims she was forced to kneel on glass ashtrays with a bag over her head as police repeatedly hit her during almost 48 hours of questioning.”

Yes, it is very interesting. For me, I had no idea about NPD until I had to relate my “challenging” experiences to a psychiatrist friend and he described it for me. It was like a big release for me to find out what I was dealing with. When people use the term “oh he/she is a control freak…” they may be right but until they’ve dealt with an N, they are the true control freaks but their subtlety and cunning defies belief.

I’ll have another scout through youtube vids later, must be there somewhere.
Not gonna crack the case, but worth seeing again imho.

I found the discussions of NPD to be very helpful, too. As I was researching it, I followed links to other personality disorders and discovered that the information about PPD (paranoid personality disorder) fits my mother to a T. It has helped me reanalyze (and actually firm up some of the conclusions I’ve come to recently on my own) my childhood and my relationship with my mother (and I’m almost 47). Very helpful! It helps explain why she has a strong pattern of coldly rejecting people in her life, including me, because she feels they are out to get her and cannot be trusted. Now I have some work to do on restructuring my own behavior and attitudes, based on my newly gained knowledge. BTW, I suspect my late father has a fairly strong streak of NPD in him. In his later years, he did mellow out and started to care about and nurture other people, thankfully.
So, for all the hours I’ve spenting reading posts here, I can say they’ve paid off handsomely by stumbling onto these gems of information posted by others here. Thank you to all of you who took the time to share personal information.

117 Maura (says, October 5th, 2007 at 12:48 pm): “Maria you are absolutely right. I think the way the Police broke the news to the parents of Madeleine that they had solid evidence that she was killed in the apartment was dreadfully cruel and unnecessary”.
REPLIES:
1. What is your source for this please? I thought that the McCanns weren’t able to talk about the investigation?
2. Were Cambridgeshire Police ‘cruel and unnecessary’ when they confronted Ian Huntley with solid evidence that the two lovely girls had been killed in his own caretaker’s house?

Thats your view. Unfortunately I don’t see it like that. But I’m happy for peeps to put their points across…………no problem. Its the ’smug know-it-all’ remarks that grind me.
October 5th, 2007 at 5:12 pm
Cheers Stevo, but I want to see the telly interview again.
I still can’t believe that she said that and made it look like a “throw away comment”.
October 5th, 2007 at 5:11 pm
309 mike I think that comment was in her interview with Jenni Murray for BBC4 on 8th August. Was linked on yesterday’s thread mid-afternoon I think.

313. Do we know for sure he got a haircut then? If he did, well yes. One would be blurry eyed, unshaven, drinking tons of java, and generally a real basket case. One would think……probably even wailing and rocking back and forth in hysteria.

There’s not a single photo or video of Kate crying. The best is a scrunched up face trying to appear emotional. It doesn’t fool me one bit.

Kate said that “wish I was there at the moment…” in her radio interview. It was discussed in here at length yesterday. Did you get the link to it?
